Hi guys
I have just got myself an XDA IIs ,I had to do a hard reset i.e. the power button /reset button sequence but before I did this I did a full backup of my XDA IIs using activesync
I have tried doing a restore but back to the phone after the thing reconfigured itself back to default factory settings
but I find out that it can restore every application but I can not restore my contacts
It comes up with a list of items which it says it can not restore because their are some applications using them and when I look at the task manager it shows programs activesync as the only applications running

I upgraded my radio rom & did the hard reset and lost everything, I had previously made a full backup and by making some regional settings changes before restoring the backup and turning off my firewall I was able to get my contacts back.
if anyone can tell me how to do this manualy that would be realy nice.

I just managed to solve all problems on my previous post, but now after restoring a backup while making some experiences. It appeard 2 inbox and 2 deleted items in the text message account . After that and making some more tries i restored again trying to remove and stayed with 3 inbox and 4 deleted items. I tried everything...searching the registry...all...but didn't found a way to delete them...anyone knows if this could be done without formating and installing all again...
what program do u use to back up your information on your device?
Spb Backup...but this happened when i tried to make a parcial restore after having some problems with a today app. And the backup i made after is already with the 2 inboxes and 4 deleted items. He dont replace if there is any messege in the box just creates a new one.
i believe u might have backed up your messages n emails when u did a backed up using spb backup, u shld have left out those so when u restore them there will not b any problem
Already tried twice deleting and not that's why the inbox number and deleted items number keeps increasing...There were an app for WM2003 that was clean mail made by spritebackup for a problem with the inbox that stoped working after a backup. What that app did was cleaning Messaging and the device restored it on the reeboot but unfortunally this app dont work on WM5. Is there anyway to reset the accounts?
Hey all
Like everyone else here i love flashing the new cooked roms. LVSW's work a treat.
However it pains me to have to reinstall all my programs.
If i update to say the new LVSW rom can i use SPB backup to backup my current info and then just restore the backup on the new roms. Is there any particular things that should or should be backuped up.
It sounds to simple but would this work or would it just end up causing problems with the new rom.
Is there any other program that might do this.
Cheers.
If you are changing ROMs then the answer is no. Backups only help you if you have to hard-reset to reload a clean version of the same ROM.
tried using sprite and moving between LSVW and Black, seems to be fine, i guess YMMV
Add/Remove Programs
Once all of the slick utilities come together for running customizations after hard reset or flash, the only thing I would think pertinent to restore would be things like call history or text/sms messages.
If you can restore your WiFI, GPRS/3G/MMS settings via a cab, and your apps in one simple run of Activesync or WMDC, why would you want to risk overlaying a program or registry setting?
Bits change between builds. This is no different than loading a service pack or upgrading from XP SP2 to Vista. I wouldn't even consider doing a restore of anything except "My Documents" and some data.
Until backup utilities allow for selective restore, they get loaded on my device as do the rest of my software. After a hard reset and through Add Programs. I then delete my old backups, get the device set up the way I want it, then backup. This way I'm assured that if I have to hard reset once I'm on a particular version, I can restore functionality with a restore.
My .02
Cheers.
I thought it would be a long shot.
Thanks for your help.

I have been using SPB Backup to restore the entire OS, the contacts database are not interchangeable between WM5 & WM6, but I can swap between WM5/WM6 by just restoring a full backup of either. SPB works ok with WM6, with exception to a couple temp files in the system area cannot be locked to be backed up, and the scheduled backup will not fire.

with wm5, i can full restore ~4-5 minutes.
with wm6 it will take ~30 > mins.
has anyone tried to restore WM5 data to WM6 using Sprite Backup (Backup software bundled with dopod D810). I'm just hoping restore my contact, connection setting and messages I assume you can't restore installed software. If this is not possible does anyone know how to transfer contact, connection setting and messaging information to WM6?
Thanks for any info
anybody has any info on restoring data from WM5 to WM6?
when going from one ROM to another ROM, i will NEVER restore from a backup. i made the mistake one time and will never do it again. in my opinion, it's best to start from scratch and reinstall 3rd party apps.
I upgraded to WM6 last week and everything is working well EXCEPT that I cant create a new Contact to my SIM or memory.
Anybody facing this issue? Any recommendation??
Thanks.

Are you saying that you don't have the "soft" left button labeled New or it doesn't allow you to save new contacts?
Hi there PGMMA,
I can click the 'New' button but when I click the 'Save' button, the contact was not saved.
I have also tried from Phone. When I click Menu-Save to Contacts, I click <New Contact>, fill the name and save, but the contact is not saved.
No such problem before the upgrade.
Thanks
Did you copy file PIM form you old rom to new rom?
Hi xtraart,
Yes, the PIM was backed up using SPB Backup in WM5 and restored to WM6. Hmmm, that may be one of the reason...
Thanks.
Same problem experienced with the restoration of a Spb WM5 backup with the upgrade option after upgrading to WM6.
Solved the problem by saving the contacts to PC first by syncing with a PC, hard resetting PPC, then save the fresh and clean pim.vol file under My Device to somewhere, restore the Spb backup, replace the restored pim.vol with the clean pim.vol, and re-sync with the PC to get all contacts back. Then it works normally.
I managed to solve the problem thanks to solitary.
I did a PIM Backup using PIMBackup, Hard Reset, Reinstall without PIM and reinstall PIM using PIMBackup.
Thanks all...
Hi guys!
My baby (device) was acting strange and slow after an uninstallation that never ended and I had to do a soft reset. Then two days later on reboot it just stoped on the Windows Mobile logo screen (the one after the colored strips, I have WM5) and nothing else!
The phone led was blinking so I thought it was really screwed. I softreseted and made a "Registry Hive Clean". I leaved the storage because I have so many data on the PIM not yet synchronized (don't have office yet)....
So my question is: There's any way to save the PIM part and do a complet hard reset and reinstall all and restore that saved PIM data?
Thank you very much!
.vol files
I'm answering part of my own post:
To save the PIM data, I think I have to save the file PIM.vol and, in my case that I have Pocket Informant, also the file pocketinformant.vol
What I don't know is if afterwards I would be able to restore that file when I make a "hard reset".
More help would be greatly appreciated.
