DEAD XDA2 - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

My XDA2 has gone dead, it no longer responds to anything. what do i do to bring it back.
Whilst i was updating it, it had erased the system ready to install hte new update it came up with an error telling me to disconect the USB and then reconeect it. I did this but noticed that the phone had gone dead and wouldn't pick up on the laptop using active sync.
Is there anyway to bring the phone back. if anybody knows please help.
Thank you

what's showing on your screen? is it totally blank or is there something written like "usb version...something"? if yes or no; do a couple of hard resets...this brings back the unit to the bootloader mode. from there put it back on the cradle and as expected activesync will not do a thing. but what you do is double click on the upgrade file on your pc and from there it should start again. a couple of chaps in the forum ran into the same problem. what they did was continuously do resets (soft and hard) until the screen showed something.
don't fret, your unit just got stuck somewhere and simply needs a kick in the bum.
cheers

Maybe this can help you because it just happen to me last 2 days ago with my XDAmini.
1. Push the power and camera with the softreset pin together.
2. It will bring you to the bootloder mode. Then plug the USB sync cable to your unit.
3. Run the rom upgrade again. It will flash from there.
Hope this help.

XDAIIi dead after partial ROM upgrade!

I have 2 XDAIIi and I upgraded my last one only to have a serious problem during in the process.
I thought I followed everything ok. set it all up and left my XDA to update, when I got back about 20min later my XDA was black and the software on my PC had dissapeared?
Went to reboot XDA and nothing except Serial v1.01
I think its dead and needs to be sorted by a repairer but as a last resort, can anyone advise me please if this is fixable?
Thanks
Paul.
Rerun the upgrade program and wait for several minutes.
Don't worry!
I have the exact same problem.
How can I rerun the program? I can´t even reset my Magician, and even if I tried, it can´t connect to the comp with Active Sync.
´cause I´ve tried it before, but it turned off after some minutes, and everything go back to before... Serial v1.0.2
it's stuck in bootloader mode, put the PDA in, run the update application and stop worrying.
you know the sequence you sue to put the PDA in Bootloader mode? pretend you've done it already and run the update.
thanks guy, it worked!
So that´s why... I was stucked in Boot Loader mode.
Just a minor question : is there a way to exit the Boot Loader mode without install the program again?

Universal dead after failed upgrade

First, I would like to thank everyone on this forum for valuable information. I have been able to flash a Blue Angel and more recently a Universal (SPV M5000) with a Jasjar, O2 and Qtek ROM.
I have researched the forum but have not found any answer close to my problem.
After the lastest update (O2 Exec just released), I did not reset the unit properly and now my screen is completely dead/blank. I tried to reflash but it is no longer recognized (will not power back up)
No possibility in putting in Boot loader mode (power+light+reset) or doing a hard reset (the 2 _ and reset).
has anyone experienced this and can I revive it, at least, bring it back to a boot loader so I can reflash? Thank you to all
Just a thought. Have you tried leaving out the battery pack for a while, say an hour or better overnight? Might be worth trying the hard-reset sequence with the battery still out, then insert the battery and hard-reset again. If it responds, try flashing again.
It is possible to get the Universal in a totally confused state. Mine does this everytime if I power down the workstation *without* first disconnecting the Exec from the USB-Sync cable. Fortunately, it will respond after a battery out plus reset, then battery in plus soft-reset, so I don't actually have to clear the memory.
Hope you dig yourself out of the brown stuff!
i am trying this at the moment as I do not know what else to do. I will put the battery back tomorrow in hope it will restart again.
Thank you for the advice

That worked for my when I was flashing my JAM, no problems. Scary, but successful. Think I may have left it a couple of days, to be sure. I then reflashed it successfully.
Although I refused to flash my Exec - too damned expensive to replace, and the ROM is 95% as good as it needs to be.

DOPOD 900 dead after upgrade

My DOPD - bought in China was running a chinese version of WM5.0 and I wanted to install a english version.
After upgrading my DOPOD 900 with the upgrade : Universal_Upgrade_v1.30.68_radio_1.09.0.zip I have problem.
It is really DEAD. soft reset does nothing and a hard reset only gives the option of "0" and "X" which do nothing.
the USB is no longer recognised and nothing seems to want to communicate with the Dopod. It seems the USB loader program is no longer running on the Dopod.
Has anybody any idea how I can attach to the device an install a new bootloader, or something.
I had the same issue and I have a solution. But, let me tell you my process that got me where you are.
I tried performing the update using the No_ID (or whatever) method and kept getting errors. I rebooted my PC and changed the Operator ID using the HTC64 Extended ROM Tool.
After this, I was able to use the typical installer. The flash went fine and I hard reset as instructed. From that point on, I had your exact problem.
A dead screen. I was able to redo the hard reset after pulling the battery but I would just end up with the dead (blank) screen again. ONCE, I did get it into boot loader mode where I could actually read the screen. But, of course I reset and again had a dead screen.
My solution was to revert back to a true O2 ROM. Even though I couldn't see the screen (still can't), the ROM update is proceeding as I type this. I'm at 44% of the radio ROM installed.
Hope this gives you hope!
Well, good news. I just finished the ROM update and I'm looking at the O2 boot image.
Is there any indication that the QTek ROM looks for the Carrier info to be QTek or it will fail once installed? Just wondering why I had this problem.
ARG! Reflashing with QTek ROM did the same thing.
Blank screen and all.
check 2 things
uncheck usb from active sync
hardreset after upgrade has been completed
just do the upgrade again and it should come alive again
Thanks and another question
Well thanks for the hope. but I have tried this already with no luck, however after this message I will try again. My biggest problem is that I cant regain communication over the usb.
I would like to know how your system behaved when you plugged in your apparantely dead device. My system just says device un recognised and I cant begin a download with or without active sync.
So I cant get another rom image to download.
regards
Nick

This was the first thing I did.
The problem is that I cannot get any communication over the USB.
The device is unrecognised on USB and after starting any ROM download it just timesout after "checking information from device" message .
Ever seen a dead USB interface like this ?
The USB PnP mgr sees the hardware but cannot establish the device type !!

@mobinick: You and I have the same situation.
I have 2 Universal dead like this. 1 Exec and 1 Jasjar.
Both dead, blank screen, can not enter bootloader, can not connect with PC. PC can not recognize the driver usb of the device.
I opened the phone and found that logically everything is so so. There is no clue about hardware.
So I think: the address of the bootloader with device ID maybe unlucky damaged.
Who can fix this problem pls share us some experience.
Thanksss

Why don't you guys take it to your respective service centres and get it fixed?
Even if you have to pay something, it will certainly be better than these bricks occupying table space.
Have you tried going back to an original O2 ROM? I went to 1.13.139 WWE and all is fine now.
Just to share my experience with you guys here:
I posted my problem way back during the Radio Upgrade from 1.04 to 1.06. My Dopod 900 got stuck on the splashscreen. I couldn't get my device to pass the splashscreen even after upgrading/downgrading the radio ROM back and forth two times.
Finally, I just forced my device into bootloader mode (Backlight+Reset+Power). Even after doing this, the dopod screen was completely blank (no indication of serial/usb letter on the screen). I downloaded the official O2 exec ROM and plug my device (in bootloader mode) back to the USB port. It said unrecognized port on my PC. Despite that, I reflashed my Dopod back with the NoID tool the complete O2 ROM (Radio, Main ROM & The extended). Once completed, my device regained its consciousness.
I managed to flashed back the 1.06 radio after that. And has since been upgraded 4 times (two i-mate, one Orange and the latest QTek ROM) with no problem whatsoever.
I had the exact same problem as you to guys, i tried to update it, and it wouldn't budge...
It constantly, without fail timed out... I tried everything...
As my hope started to wain, i gave it one last shot...
I took out everything, sim and sd and battery, then connect the battery back and from the bootloader menu, connected it to the pc, with usb cable...
Finally it worked!! Like normal, i was able to load any and all rom and radio updates...
Wouldn't work, from the normal working screen (which was working for a while, i later tested this out, and found out ) and also wouldn't work, from the bootloader (power+backlight+reset) with sim+flash in there....
Hope you guys have some luck.. I htink you should, because i was in the exact same boots as you guys...
It worked for me
My O2 Exec did exactly the same thing, and I spent (on and off) 24 hours trying to get the damn thing to go again - wouldnt charge either....
I too finally took out everything, SIM and sd and battery, then connect the battery back and from the bootloader menu (which I only found about from this site), connected it to the pc, with usb cable...
It worked as well - bloody brilliant. I now have the latest 02Exec Upgrade (Version 1.30.162 AKU2 Release) and all is great.
Cant believe that 2 days after logging email with O2 site, they have not responded...
Would almost kiss you guys.....
Solution for getting stuck in bootloader
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Instructions for those stuck on Boot Screen

Help... *Sigh*

I've been hacking dash' for a long time now... my friend gave me his phone to hack...
Thought it was easy...
I mustv'e messed something up... now every time i boot my device up it gets stuck on the screen with three colors... red, green and blue one
i have try hard resseting it - two soft keys power button...
i have tried leaving the battery out... no good
any help would be greatly appreciated
the tri color screen is the bootloader. you need to use that to flash back to a stock rom, then try to flash again.
because I am stuck on this screen my phone will not connect to the computer and sync... what should I do?

Turn the damn thing off.
Press and hold in the camera button.
After 10 secs or so, plug in your USB cable.
You can now install an Official, (from your provider), ROM available at a Sticky near you.
Once an official ROM is back on, you can continue with your evil plans.
You have to use an OFFICIAL ROM first.
thanks for that help... i did as i was told, advance to a white screen where it said "checking sd contents" still not being able to connect to my computer via activesync so i can run the original factory rom
Remove your SD card prior to flashing. It's really a very simple process man, so if it's not working for you, you're making a rather minor mistake. Just follow the information in the stickies. You may even find a video on Youtube of someone flashing from the bootloader. Oh, and if you'd read the stickies, you'd know that you don't need to connect via activesync when in bootloader mode. The PC should automatically connect and install whatever driver it needs to communicate with your phone so you can flash.

[Q] Dead phone after update, any way to bring it back

Hi guys, need very quick help from you, as I think I have bricked the phone which suppose to be a Christmas gift for may son. I was trying to revert phone from root and custom rom to stock. I've downloaded older OTA update (one of very first ones with android 2.2) an installed it in bootloader. Phone booted fine, and I went for official update. It showed to me there is update available to android 2.3. I have downloaded it and phone rebooted in to update mode. After progress bar gone to the end it disappeared and phone stayed in that update mode (logo with phone and green arrows shaped it to circle) for nearly half an hour. I though, some thing had to vent wrong so I decided to turn off phone, but power button gave no effect, so I pulled battery out for few seconds. After I have putted it back phone never turned on again. I mean is completely not responding. Pressing power button for even minute doesn't wake it up, it is not possible to go to the bootloader. There is no characteristic vibration when it turns on. Basically it behaves like there is no battery in socket but there is, and it is fully loaded as I charged it before updating. When phone plugged to AC or computer LED is not lighting as well whatsoever.
Please, can any one help with this one? I in rush as phone is a Christmas present for my son who lives in Italy and I supposed to ship this today to make it arrive b4 Christmas. This is why I can not spend to much time on searching forums.
Thank you

Try pressing volume down+power button for a while then leave the power button while still pressing the voulme key. You should boot into the bootloader.

Tried that too, still dead
Try connecting you DHD to the PC.
Download one of these Stock RUU's : http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Ace
Run the installer from PC. See if it detects the device.

I understand I should not be worried that all of these RUU's are listed as for model: ACE?
Not at all. 'Ace' is the codename HTC gave to Desire HD/Inspire. Just choose the RUU that fits your location(i.e. WWE stands for WorldWide Edition).

My idea is to double check again the battery position in the socket and if it is ok try to leave it 5 minutes alone on the AC adapter. If this will not give good results, go to the appropriate HTC representative.
when you connected it to your computer... did it ask you to install qload drivers?
if not, go into device manager on your computer, then plug in your phone. If you see an unknown device that shows as qload something or other, then sorry to say, its bricked.
The only way to recover it now is via jtagging or replacing the mainboard (which generally is what they do when you send it in for warranty repair)

Yes, I thought about it as phone behave like it has no power at all. But this is not the case, as I have been flipping that and another battery in every possible position. And I know which one is correct as I can see where pins are in battery pocket. I left it alone under charging and other time with no battery at all hoping that will hard reset phone. No effect at all .

I had drivers previously installed. But I am not entirely sure are we talking about same thing as I don't know what QLOAD is. Anyway comp doesn't see any recognised or unrecognised device that could be my phone...
I am not worrying about damn phone as if it is hard bricked tech guys in service will not probably spot that it was rooted. So they will replace, or if not I will go to insurance company. Problem is it takes to much time, I wont make it b4 Christmas.
Thank you guys,
anyone has some other ideas? Please...
desperation bump
Sorry.. It really seems to be beyond software-repair, If it cannot boot in the bootloader or be recognized by PC there's really not much we can do. We need the device to start in some way.
Although one last thing that we haven't tried and can try is to see if it can be accessed via adb or fastboot. (Although I highly doubt it since the RUU also wasn't working).
I've attached the adb and fastboot files required to test that. Extract it, double-click on StartHere.bat and type "fastboot reboot" or "adb reboot". If it returns an error citing device not found then this too has failed.
(This probably wont work.. desperate action)
Another silly thing that might be tried is to try to put your phone on charging via a charger(not USB via PC) and then try to switch it on. Try normal switching, switching on to bootloader(volume down press)...
If these don't work then you really should give it to the repair center.. you're right that they wont probably realise that it was rooted and would probably change the main board.

Hello hedeon,
I have the same experience today, as you state in the first post in this thread.
Did you, and how solve the problem?
Is there people with the same problem? This morning I receive notification about system update for my HTC Desire HD. The rest is exactly same problem from the top of this story = death + death + death.....
The problem is that you PULLED THE BATTERY WHILE UPDATING! Have some paitience. I switched on my DHD after 3 months and it needed updating. Takes around 20 mins to complete update

May be, but updating started with downloading, then resetting, and then green line was growing up to 1/3 of total size, and at that size stay more then 20 min. Then I try to to push every button, and every combination of buttons, and after 10 minutes more I had pull battery out.
Was it too impatient ?
What was the Android version before you rooted if you can remember and which tool did you use to root?
From what you wrote earlier, it asked you for a 2.3 update which means you probably flashed a Froyo RUU as stock, to bring the phone back to stock ofc.
However, if your DHD came with stock Gingerbread, flashing a Froyo RUU will most definitely screw the phone. I'm not sure if it's beyond repair atm or not, but if that was the case, even if you didn't mess with the battery, chances are the phone would never boot anyway.
Look into AAHK thread, I think there is a good how to there.
