Is anyone using the XDAII, with a bluetooth gps that works, coupled with the GPS_LOG software.
for those that don't know gps_log has airspace and thermal tracking capability and is free. for para and hang gliders or just sailplanes
thanks

Seems to be a lot of problems/issues spread across the forums concerning bluetooth and XDA2/XDA2i in general. :?
Would a specific Bluetooth Forum be an idea, to try and zero in on some of these issues?
Now that there are an increasing number of BT devices/uses - GPS, headsets, headphones, cameras, laptops, fridges, car setups etc.. it would be good to be able to share info on those uses that actually work well .... and those that don't.
As a starter .....
What is considered the best and most stable BT setup for XDA2 and XDA2i? Does this vary depending on what you are using it for - handsfree, TomTom, or built-in carphone ?
For my own setup, I am using an XDA2i (Bluetooth v1.0.0-3900 by Broadcom) - this works about 75% of the time with my JabraBT250v.
I also have bluetooth factory-fitted by Audi in my car - but as yet it is intermittent when connecting to the XDA2i and will not recognise the SIM addressbook like it is supposed to do.
The car makes the bluetooth link OK, and I can make calls (even using Audi's Voicedial 8) ) but it then drops out/reconnects every four minutes  Very annoying, but suppose it keeps the call costs down  Is this likely to be the car dropping the phone or the phone dropping the car? Any fixes or hints ?
I have a spare XDA2 that I will happily use as a testbed to try and get different Bluetooth versions working - just be patient with me as I'm a novice !
as far as i know then which bluetooth version is supported is in the Hardware and can never be altered
but what you can do is to change bluetooth stack from MS to vidcomm / broadcom
it solves some issues but creates others try doing a search for vidcomm OR broadcom
Greetings all!
I have become the owner of an XDA Orbit and have not taken the kind people at O2 up on their offer of navigation software, but am using my existing TTN 5 software. It has installed perfectly and it works excellently on the external BT GPS, but I need to know how to get it to work through the built-in GPS.
Does anyone have any instructions and port settings to get the TTN5 to speak to the on-board GPS receiver?
All help gratefully received.........

Other NMEA GPS/ GPS Baud rate 9600/ GPS on COM4 - Mike
Thanks Mike, it works a treat (even better than my Leadtek BT GPS). I 'm sure it wouldn't have hurt O2 to put that in the manual.
Keep up the good work.
Hi Guys
I have been testing out some gps sat navs for work...tested with holux bt gps
So far I have the following which are compatible not compatible.
Destinator... works fine, however will sometimes struggle to pick up signal and requires a reset.. Otherwise all other functionality works great. Sometimes freezes when in 3d mode. (Most of these were true for wm5
Igo Myway plus- Will install on wm6(eventually) however seems to have a memory leak that causes it to slow down to nothing.... Very impressive gps sat nav on wm5. Better than most of the others I tried...
Will add more when test the other models.....
If anyone else can update me with thier info / experiences, please go ahead.
The Garmin Mobile 20 (GPS 20SM) works fine with both Windows Mobile 5 and 6. It is a Bluetooth GPS that supports using Bluetooth for receiving GPS information, and for the speakerphone, but for some reason insists on using the external speaker of the phone for navigation directions. (Or so it seems, I didn't have it long enough to do full testing).
The one problem that it seems to have (at least my unit does - I am awaiting a RMA replacement) is that it will not charge my Cingular 8525, unless I perform a soft-reset after connecting the mini-USB connector. I am hoping that it is a problem with the particular unit that I had, as I really like the Garmin products. (I suspect that it may be an issue with the product itself though, as it will charge a T-Mobile SDA, as well as an old Nokia phone not capable of Bluetooth. The 8525 does charge flawlessly when connected to a PC via mini-USB, or the supplied AC adapter, so I'm sure that it's not a problem with the phone).

Edit: After re-reading this, it appears you're using a generic GPS and evaluating software that works with said unit. The Garmin software pretty much only works with the Garmin units as far as I can tell, so it might not be an appropriate solution for you.
TomTom works flawlessly.
Currently i'm on v6.03 but i used 2 previous versions on WM6 with no problems.
Side note, i don't know if its because of v6.03, or WM6 but this version takes a little longer to acquire a valid GPS signal when initially turned on.
MioMap 3.2, TomTom 6.3 & Destinator 6.2 work flawlessly for me...
Destinator still has the tedious lock up issues... other then that MioMap is the best...

does Miomap have voice commands, or just on screen instructions only? Do they make maps for USA?

Hello Folks,
This is my first post to this funky forum! Thanks for letting me join...
Anyhow I have an O2 XDA Orbit which I have just upgraded to the official O2 Rom update to Windows Mobile 6.0
Don't know if you have heard of this system but I have a Fiat Grande Punto Sporting. Built into the car is a system that has been designed to Fiat in partnership with Microsoft. The system runs Windows Mobile for Automotive.
The system provides Ipod/Mass Storage Device support to play MP3's ; Wav's and WMA's ; Speech Recognition ; Bluetooth Connectivity for Handsfree Calling ; SMS Reader (Notification of New Messages and can read them out to you whilst driving)
The system is brilliant especially as its a standard feature on the car.. however SMS Reader doesnt work for me!
It is the SMS Reader which I am finding annoying because I can't find a phone that works with it... This is where you come in for advice.
The confusion is if both devices (Blue&Me and my XDA Orbit) are running Windows Mobile as the core, why doesn't the SMS Reader work.. so I'm thinking I might need to change something on my phone or install a client of some description...
Has anyone got any experience of this? I was hoping by upgrading to WM6 it would help however the only extra functionality I got on Blue& Me was it to display O2-UK on connection of the phone to the car!!!
HELP PLEASE!! Thank You
Try this here :

I got it to work with my Garmin Nuvi 660FM to work the sms on screen function.
I have an P3600 WM5... does this jetwaremobile software really can get to work SMS reading via Blue&me?
Hi, i also have a blue&me and the major problem i encounter is that when i´m making a call the person on the other side says that the sound is very low like im at the bottom of a hole or something.
I have WM6 installed with last radio rom installed.
Anyone experienced this???
No, for me the call volume seens to be good, the only problem I had is with that sms reading feature that is not working with WM5, Jetware did not work and Blue&me still ignoring SMS... I have been looking around for some kind of plugin to do it with no success...
eu não tenho problemas com o volume, as pessoas do outro lado é que se queixam que ouvem muito baixo.
May be there is some kind of microphone volume control for Blue&me? Anyway, could you make SMS work on?
i have to blue&me (fiat bravo), and sms reader doesn't work with Windows Mobile.
I try with HTC Wizard (WM5), now i'm using HTC Diamond (ERA (polish t-mobile) edition), and sms reader still not works. Jetwaremobile is not resolving problem.
All others function works fine with wizard and diamond.
blue&me + sms reader

hi , you excuse for the English but I am Italian, you know if a working program exists with the Blue&Me that gives me the possibility to feel the sounds of the telephone (I900 Omnia wm 6.1) on the boxes of the radio Blue&Me?
Thanks
I also use blue&me (Fiat Grande Punto Sport) and I've never had my SMS read, neither with a Nokia 5200 or the HTC P3300. I don't know if I need to install some software update in the car.
BTW, I'd be interested ast he former commenter onto listening to music from my P3300 in the blue&me speakers.
Anybody aware of a similar GPS product for WM6.1/6.5??
Viewranger allows you to use topo maps with your GPS unit....
