I have changed my mp3 to wav and put them in windows/rings folder but I can't select them as my ringtone. Anything wrong?
You may still need to run the "Add Ring Tone" application to get them to be recognised (Found under Settings -> System).
Doing it this way uses loads of storage as WAV's are sooooo much bigger, if you convert your MP3's to WMA format and pop them on your storage card you can then just hold stylus down on the WMA and bingo you'll see on the pop up menu is an option to "set as ringtone" .
ignore the bandwagon set who love to hate microsoft, in the real world everyone who nows anything about digital media will confirm that bitrate for bitrate WMA's are the best quality.
What i do is convert to WMA, and copy it to the \windows\rings directory (this should already exist). It will then appear in your list of ringtones (really easy way for setting up different ringtones for different people).
I also added a 'ringtone' (sound file) for when smses get received. Save it as a .WAV file and copy it to \windows, and it will appear in your 'sounds' list.

Copy the .wav file u want to be the SMS ringtone to Windows directory inside ur O2 XDA IIs
copy the wanted .wav file into the windows folder, and then go into your notifications option and your wanted .wave file will be in the drop down for you to select 8)
you could also convert and edit mp3 songs to wave and use it as your alert tone. Further, you could search for a thread "Mort Ring" on this forum, it's very useful in assigning tones per contacts.

Within the phone you can change the sound it makes when you receive a new SMS, but the list only shows their default sounds. If i wanted a custom sound, what folder would i put it in?
put them in your windows folder
you can put them in the root directory of your storage card
dude,put mp3 in this folder:
\storage card\My documents
if not shown in your sound configuration,probably you need to convert mp3 to wav

If you go under Application Data/Sounds the system will find your add on custom sounds. Thats where I place all mine and I don't have to spend 30 MIN looking for them if I want to delete one. If you were to put them in the windows folder.

I thought these kind of features where standard on modern smart phones?
Or is there an app for that
i think theres a special app for that i have seen it somewhere on the cyrket website

Have you tried setting it as a ringtone within the music app? Then from there you might be able to choose it in the alarms and notifications?
make a folder on your SD card (the root of it) called "Notifications" and "Ringtones" then copy your ringtones into one and notifications (SMS and Alarms) into the other. Then they appear in the menus. I had to google about to find this myself!
Alternatively you can set it through the music application!
You need to create specific folders on the SD. I have alarms on the SD root for my alarm tone and notifications for my message tone!

That is how I have it setup so I only have one folder in the sdcard root for all of my alarms, notifications and ringtones.
Mine are set as...

Why can't they make things simple these days
SOrry to jump in, but cant someone just run over what i may be doing wrong.
On my SD Card i have the following folder setup :
sdcard/
sdcard/media
sdcard/media/audio
sdcard/media/notifications
sdcard/media/alarms
sdcard/media/ringtones
and within the notifications folder i have put an MP3.
BUT it doesnt show up in SETTINGS > SOUND & DISPLAY > NOTIFICATION SOUND
Nor does it show up in ChompSMS or SMSPopup.
I have alos tried to create the folders in the root, with no luck.
I know im beign blind, what am i missing.

Have you tried with a different audio file?
Just download 'Ringdroid' from the marketplace and you can edit your mp3's in the fly and gives you the option to save as tone/notification etc..
OK, sorted it.
The file will only show up if i put ".mp3" at the end of the file, otherwise it doesnt show up.

I noticed there was a similar layout in the phone's ROM

There was some Facebook mp4 file in that ringtones folder.
Can anyone tell me how i can put my personal ringtone in the phones memory so it appears in their ringtone list?
Also the same with text message notifications?
I'm having a problem where if I select my own mp3 ringtone, it will play the last mp3 i've been listening to as my ringtone as opposed to the actual ringtone i want.

I have mine stored in /sdcard/Media/audio/ringtones
ringtones go in /system/media/audio/ringtones/ ive not tried adding my own but i suppose you could either add them to the rom .zip before flashing or push them to that location using adb
Look for "Android System Information" in the Market.
Install and open it, then look under the system tab, and expand/open the environment section.
You will get to see a list of the folder variables where the system looks for media.
In case a Cooker has changed something specific, these should show the right location.
I just updated my 9 Pro to C.44 doing a full wipe. It's mostly working, but this new build no longer lets me select ringtones from the "Ringtones" folder in mass storage. Instead, it offers me system ringtones or the option to "Select from files". That offers tabs for "Music" and "Recordings".
I've tried putting an ogg, an MP3 and a WAV in the Recordings directory in mass storage, and it always insists "No files" when I try to pick a ringtone from "Recordings"
I suppose I could put the ringtones in the Music directory, but I don't want my music player playing them.
Any suggestions?
Copy your file to the ~/Ringtones or ~/Notifications directory and reboot(*): you'll find the ringtone in the "Music" tab.
(*) I couldn't find any way to force media indexing without rebooting
And the Search is case-sensitive on the filename, which is why I wasn't finding my ringtones using search. My Music tab has hundreds of entries, so just scrolling through it wasn't getting me very far.
