I have a Qtek 9090, which I love to bits, but am having problems with the camera, and do not know if it is something that I am doing wrong.
When I am lining up a picture I want to take, the screen is fantastically clear, brilliant quality, so sharp, and colourful. Once I press, to take the picture, the saved image is of a greatly reduced quality; fuzzy, a little blurred, faded colours. This also happens if I am photographing still objects, so it is not due to the movement of the subject.
Anyone have any ideas? Do I have a certain setting 'off balance' or is this just the way it is?
Regards
Sarah-Jane
I have a similar issue with My XDA IIs. The image i see in what i can describe as the view finder is really crisp, but once i take a pic the image is no where near the same quality. I find that taking video is much better. Im sure this is not a hardware issue, but something to do with how the app compresses the image. Look out for other updates for the camera software in this forum. I have tried a couple of patches to no avail. Maybe it will be in another ROM update .i.e. windows update. I will keep my eye out for you and let you know if i find anything. Let me know likewise.
PM me if you like
I think you need to:
Upgrade your carmera software - search this forum for latest version of extended rom (the carmera program version should be 2.21).
Secondly, do not save photo in SD card - try in storage (I guess should be faster to record the pics you have taken)
I am having the same problem...and guess what: I have version 2.21 ( build 17084 ).
Maybe it is because there isn't steadyshot on it?
Anybody got the answer to our problem?
Yeah, i have the latest version of the software as far as i know. I also have latest patches / updates. Video quality is fine though.... Bit of a weird one, but im sure there will be an update out that will fix it soon.

1 in 3 pictures comes out totally black bo matter what I am taking a photo of. Any ideas? Using an unlocked with WM5. Will upgrading to WM6 help ya think?
Take the lens cap off.....
Just kidding, mine did that the other day too. It all of a sudden started working again after taking several pics. Not sure what caused it.
It appears to be working now. Weird.

After you took the lens cap off right? thats an ole trick
Hi Guys,
That's a bug in the Camera software, I believe.
I had that too with WM5 and noticed that it (black photo) only happened when the camera was pointed at certain things, such as into the distance in the forest or into darkness inside the home, for example. Never had that problem when taking photos of well lit things close up, like within a couple of meters or so. Try this for yourself by pointing the camera at close up things, distant things, dark things, bright things, things with lots of detail in them like the forest or some bushes.
I think the camera software must be doing some contrast calculations or something and gets confused sometimes thereby deciding to give you a black photo as its best guesstimate
Good news is that since I upgraded to WM6 (Black 3.0 curretnly) I have not yet had this problem. Perhaps it has a newer version of the Camera. Try one of the current flavors of WM6 and see which one you like. Just don't install all your apps immediately after you flash a ROM, until you've tested all the stuff you normally use like camera, internet sharing (no modem like in WM5), alarms, java midlet applications, etc.
All the best.

I would but I'm nervous of crippling my wi-fi as some WM6 ROM's do. I'm using HardSPL7 and Radio version: 1.40.00.10.

I've flashed about 25 times to Dutty's, Black's, Custel's, and now on LVSW's latest. Wi-fi works perfectly, no reason not to try WM6.
regarding the Camer issue. i just got back from the beach and when i was taking some pics when the previex screen came back it was just all black. So then i would go into my pictures and video and the picture would actually be on there, not all of them though. Sometimes they would be all grey. And this was all on my 8525 running custels 2.5 fixed. so i really dont know what could be going on. kind of sucks especially when you take a good pic and it doesnt come out.
i think it has to do with what rom you run and whats running in the background as this used to happen to me in black 2.5 but now with the newer camera drivers everything is GREAT!!! try no to run to many other apps while using the cam and also upgrade to Lsvw's new rom cam and everything else works great!
Hi austinsnyc,
You mentioned newer camera drivers - was there a cab posted for them in some forum? I've been looking for it under keywords "hermes camera new driver", etc, but no luck finding it yet.
I have the CUSTEL 2.5 rom on an Imate JasJam (HERM 100) and all is working well. I haven't tried taking pictures in the forest lately, where I first noticed the problem. I had no other apps running at the same time as the problem occurred. Whilst in the forest I reset the JasJam to see if that helped. After about three photos I started getting black photos again and after a few of those the camera application died (crashed) again, which required another soft-reset.
Sometimes it's a pain in the ass with this camera software I tell you. When it works it is great, until it starts crashing... Well, I guess it is a pretty poor camera anyway, when comparing pictures with those taken on my little Canon Ixus 50, but the Canon stays at home most of the time and the phone is with me almost always.
If you can point me in the right direction that will be terriffic.
Thanks mate

Hello all, i am new here and i do not know if this is the right place to be posting this, so if not please move it, and send me a PM to where it has been moved.
So i have a bug with my T mobile Dash. After i upgraded it to WM6, the camera colors have been messed up! i have also installed Excalibur WM6.1 ROM by Kavana and that did not change my camera problem either (although i must say it is an excellent piece work!) would any one know how to fix my problem? or if i need to reinstall my camera program, how can i do that?
Thank you all for you time

bump .................
Heat?
I was wondering if you have let the phone be placed near a heat source? Also have you actually just tried cleaning the lens of the camera itself? The camera program and the drivers are reinstalled each time that you have flashed the ROM on the phone. It can only be a hardware problem if you are experiencing this problem throughout successive installations of different ROM's, AFAIK then this can only be attributed to the hardware. I suggest cleaning the lens however just in case there is a clear buildup of something on the lens. Otherwise someone wiser than I needs to help you out.
sorry for the late reply, was out of the country, but it is different because the colours look so different you can see that the camera is working. but it seems like soemthing has toggled with my camera files when i updated to wm 6
Do you have to have OMAP turned on to a different CPU rate?
where can i see that?
Start->All Programs->Accessories
Make sure OmapClock is set to a lower then 150 or disabled.
A more powerful battery very much helps also.
*I have a script that if Camera or Video option is picked it defaults OmapClock.
Mortscript program is needed.
*Credit is given to Bupahs.
Hi everyone! This is my first post here so I hope I'm doing this right. I'm not sure if this should be here in Q&A or in the App section but here goes.
I really love my Epic 4G. Up until a couple of weeks ago, I was still running Dk28 with midNIGHT rom 3.1. Then I finally switched over to the wonderful CM9 Beta1. I am loving it so far, but there's one thing that bothers me. The camera.
One of the things I used to use on the camera very frequently was the panorama/wide shot function. I really hate the sweep panorama of the ICS camera because with the crafts I make, it's just horrible and it's always distorted because sweeping and me don't get along. The camera that was on my leaked Froyo had the feature where I would click the first picture, and while moving to the side a green box would guide me and then automatically take the next shot when it lined up, then I'd move again and it would take the next shot. It would then put the images together for me.
I really need that feature back. Is there a way that I can install that camera app back onto my phone in addition to the updated ICS camera? I really like the smoothness and speed of the ICS camera for normal picture taking.
I can pull the camera.apk from my original install, but as I said, I don't want to overwrite the ICS one, which I fear because they have the same name and I don't know if renaming it will make the difference. I want both. If someone could guide me in getting both on my phone, that would be great. I'm sure there must be a way, but I don't know how to do it. I've read a lot on these boards so I figure if anyone knows how to help, the great minds here do!
I hope I've explained this ok. If I'm not clear, please let me know. Thanks much!
p.s. I've tried a number of camera apps from Play. I don't like the wide shot ones where it has a ghost image for you to line it up manually either, so please don't suggest that.
Is it just me or does it seem like the camera was better when the phone was unrooted and without a ROM? Last night I rooted my phone and flashed the CM10 ROM...and I feel that the pictures come out a little blurry. The camera app is completely different in itself.
Is there any way to install the original camera app? The CM10 ROM upgraded me from android 4.1.1 to 4.1.2.

The stock camera app relies on the Touchwiz framework which CM10 does not use, so no you cannot install the original camera app.

Thanks. Is it just in my mind that the stock camera is better? Are there any good camera apps around that I could use?
There's a chance that the pictures with the stock camera are better, because the camera software has been optimized for the phone. However, someone posted sample pictures in the CM10 thread comparing the stock camera quality to CM10's camera quality, and the differences were negligible. The person posting them said he couldn't tell the difference if he didn't know there was one, and I personally couldn't see much difference either. I'm on my phone, so searching for it would be a *****, so if you're on a computer, I'd recommend giving the CM10 thread a search. If I can find the post before you, I'll edit this with a link.
You could always try it yourself, too. Find a room with consistent lighting (probably away from windows), and take some pics with Touchwiz. Then, take the same pics with CM10 (I guess, try to make a stand/marking of some sort so it's easier to put the camera at/near the same exact spot). Upload them to a computer or something (just because a larger screen will show the differences better; it's not entirely necessary), and compare.

Thanks. That is all great information. I actually just flashed Jelly Bomb 9.0. Nice ROM but now I'm getting a whole new error haha. I'll start another thread.
Hi everyone, I recently bought a new camera module for the Z1C to replace my old one which had dark spots all over it, scratched lense etc. However, with the new camera (supposedly an original sony part), I experience a strange brightness and distortion problem, with the former one being rather obvious from the attached pictures. Note the large brightness artifact on the right side of the picture (inverted L shape).
I had sent the module back to the camera supplier, they tested it on their Z1C and found no problems whatsoever, telling me it was a (supposedly well known) software bug in my phone. Unfortunately, I was unable to find any occurence of other users reporting this particular problem. Maybe you can help me out?
I have an unlocked bootloader, currently running on the most recent DstrikersZ1 Mod (Android 5.1.1), but have also tried wiping everything and going back to the latest Sony Stock without getting rid of the problem. Could still be an incompatibility issue in terms of camera module hardware revisions? Interestingly, the problem does not occur in CM or AOSP firmwares, suggesting indeed a Sony-related software issue. Still, I find it hard to believe that this cannot be fixed while remaining on Sony-based firmwares. I have tried to flash every single Camera Mod available (Z5 camera, Cyberian, and many more) plus trying many alternative Camera softwares from the Google Play store without any success.
Thank you all very much!

I can see why you're bewildered. Very strange... I would initially think hw for sure, and someone sold you a bad part, but to hear that it goes away on custom ROMs is very confusing. Anyway, personally, I think I would probably send it back and get a refund, and try a different one. Whatever the problem is, that seems like the simplest first thing to try.

Thank you for your quick feedback and sympathy! Unfortunately, they refused to give me a refund based on the fact that they could not reproduce it on their Z1C test device. I had sent them my item and requested a refund/replacement, but they (supposedly) tested my module in detail and even sent me some pictures taken with their Z1C as proof. So now they just delivered the same camera module back to me and I'm kind of stuck with it.
Not sure why they cannot see it, given that it happens for me even on a clean Sony stock firmware. In theory, the only remaining difference between their phone and mine (HW revisions aside) would be my unlocked bootloader and with it the deleted TA partition and DRM for Bravia engine. I still have a TA backup somewhere but I'm not exactly willing to relock my bootloader and to loose TWRP. On a sidenote, the EXRxTHS functional DRM "restoration" did not help with my specific problem.
As you said, the mystery really lies in why the problem is not visibile on custom ROMs. I'd love to get a glimpse on the RAW image data from the camera because I believe that an error in post-processing causes the problem on the Sony ROM. But as far as I could see from searching, there is still no way of getting RAW image data when using a Sony firmware on Z1C, right?
