Sorry guys i'm new to this, i have an O2 xda11s what will installing the extended rom do and how do i do it.
Thanks in advance
OK, I am either old, stupid...or both??
OK, folks, I am scared of a lot of this, I guess because I don't understand it yet...I dl'ed hte Siemens file, unzipped it, now what....??
I see a file called AUTORUN, should I double click that file, and pray like anything??
I guess the simple word here is "HELP!!!!"
Thanks in advance for everybody's assistance!!
Tom
The Extended ROM is just a collection of applications and patches that the provider included with the phone... for instance, the O2 Ext. ROM includes a PDF/Power point viewer .cab in theirs that I-Mate doesn't include with the PDA2k Ext. ROM. The naming convention of these .cabs makes it semi-difficult to find out what each .cab does without testing it. To install a .cab, simply copy it over to your phone, browse to its location and tap on it. I would recommend doing a backup, as you can't really uninstall a lot of these .cabs.
Does anyone know of any updates posted anywhere for the Orange version of the Blueangel - the SPV M2000? Either on the Orange website or elsewhere?
Thanks!
XDA For Dummies?
Here is the problem I have...there is a LOT of info here, for which I am VERY grateful; but there seems to be an assumption that everyone here knows all this stuff already. And I will be the first to admit, I DON'T!!!
I have the updated extended rom files, and I am being told to put them on the handheld, and run the cab files. Well, the updated rom files contain more than cab files! Where do I put htem, and which ones where?
Is there a "XDA FOR DUMMIES" guide somewhere? I would really like to update my unit, but I don't understand WHERE the files need to go...
Here is the file list from the SX66 Update:
AddContacts.exe
AutoRun.exe
BA_Album_WWE.CAB
Button.CAB
CallerID.CAB
Cin_inbox_ap.CAB
Cingularsplash.cab
Cingularcustomize.cab
Config.txt
Enable_GPRS.CAB
getmail.CAB
JAVA_WWE.CAB
MEdiaNet.CAB
MIDI561.CAB
MMS_WWE.CAB
RestartRadio.exe
StartServices.CAB
TPDisable.exe
TPEnable.exe
version.CAB
WLANPatch.CAB
Exactly where do I put them, how do I put them there, and how do I do the update?
Please forgive me for being a bit obtuse, but I was not born knowing all this stuff , and I cannot find the info anywhere! IS THERE A STEP BY STEP GUIDE FOR DOING THIS KIND OF THING?
Hell, I would make a $25 USD donatin to the forum if we could get some kind of "dummies guide"...
Many thanks for your time, and I hope, some assistance!
Tom
I forgot...
Oops, I forgot...HOW do I back up this "extended rom" so if there is a problem, I can return to the previous state? Can that be done...how?
Enquiring minds really want to know!!
Tom
No clue............
I don't get how to install these either.
The custom 9th button assignment one is cool! (for the "E" button the bottom of the keyboard)
Most of these CAB files complain that it's not in ROM in \Windows etc (yes/no/cancel)
How do we allow the CAB files to write to protected ROM?
I've searched this forum and cant find a description on these extended roms either. It's not fun to install stuff in trial and error mode. (anyone care to give a quick breakdown or add a text file to the zip file?)
For a better understanding of extenedrom read:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=13072
NOTE this is about a XDAII and **YOU** are in the Blueangel forum !!!!!
Siemens has a WLAN Patch in its uploaded extened rom,
Anybody know what it is ??
(yes I know its a Wlan Patch have other operators used it)
If you are talking to ME...
I have a SX66, which IS a Blue Angel!
Take care!
i-mate PDA2K WWE is blueangel isnt it? I still dont quite understand how to load the rom upgrades that complain about read only rom over-write errors.
Extended ROMs for Dummies (The books,so no insults intended)
Aloha
Maybe I am feeling sorry for all of the new people who have been lucky enough to stumble onto this site. This site started as a developer site as we took apart the early HTC products to see what made them tick. Here is a quick overview of the extended rom.
Your phone is made up of three rom files. (radio, OS, and extended) The OS and radio ROMs make up the guts of the phone, but the extended ROM is where your provider or reseller (Cingular, O2,T-mobile, Imate) places custom software that differentiates themselves.
This extended rom contains a number of CAB files that usually auto install after a hard reset. You can see them by searching for the Extended_rom unlock tool on this site. Once you unlock this area of your device, you will see a new Extended_storage area. Place the files you like from the downloaded roms. There are great features to pick and choose from such as modified phone applications, ring tones, PDF and PPS viewers ect.
You can click on any of the cabs or modify the config.txt to install the programs. Since many of the programs are similar and probably already installed, you may get an error about the file being locked in ROM.
I hope this helps.

Hello!
The Qtek 9000 is sold in Germany with a ROM dated middle October 2005.
Is this ROM also available for download somewhere?
Unfortunately I couldn't find it yet...
I would like to try it on my MDA Pro!
Deal!
Hey,
I'm looging to change my Qtek german ROM to an English one.
I'm pretty sure we can find a deal in exchanging our ROMs!
But you need to tell me how to extract and how to reflash afterwards.
If interrested contact me.
The english ROM is here on xda-devs-FTP
But: please before flashing your OS upload the german ROM there!
This would be my very best xmas present
Cheers
Ok for your christmas present!
Hello Cendaryn,
I just need coaching or tutorial for extracting and then flashing the ROMs.
If someone tells me how to extract I will post for sure.
And I need also help to flash the english ROM.
Thank you
Well this is my biggest problem - I know how to flash the ROMs but not how to dump them. But I guess a little search in the forum here will help
Cheers
uni_cdl-me_11238_132_10301_ship.exe ) Is this the Qtek ROm? if its not please show me the direction.
Sorry
Sorry with no tutorial I can't help.
I'm really willing to post the german ROM. But haven't a clue where to start.
Does anybody know?
Thank you.
Dumping the ROM seems to be not easy
this is what I found: [Universal] How to d2s (dump) the ROM
I can't help you because I dont have a Universal (Qtek 9000) but I'm very interested in files of this ROM too!!!
Dumping the ROM seems to be not easy
Well, you say it.
If I look the post you mention I still have no idea where to start ???
I keep on seeking for complete tutorial.
By the way, does anybody know if changing the ROM is also changing the WM language? Or do I have to change separately?
Thank you.
A ROM also includes the WM language.
Maybe this topic helps:

Near to target ... but ...
Hi,
Thank you for the links, I feel I'm very close to dump the german ROM.
But not done so far.
And I'm becoming impatient because I found the ROM I want to put in place.
Keep on helping me end pray for I resist not to flash the original german ROM.
Arrgh!
I'm going mad to find how to backup original ROM.
Don't know if I will resist any longer to flash without backup.
Would You please try to run grab_it on your Universal?
This would give us a RAW-ROM-Image.
and i need a file dump (TestWM5) of a German ROM.
but you will need a Storage Card to do this.
German ROM needed ?
Hi all,
just reading through this thread here. I have an original VDA-IV with an unchanged ROM. I am trying to convince myself to upgrade to JasJar or O2, but did not do so yet. Any wish for a dump from me ?
(Have to leave now, but am able to do so tomorrow)
Ruud
yes, yes, yes...

I am getting today my german qtek 9000.. But I will flash to wwe Qtek.. I will try to dump the german one first.. But maybe I need a little help..

Idea
Maybe, we can have it a little easier, because I think, ROM dumping is very difficult and could also be hard to flash on other devices. For MDA compact (HTC Magician) for example, you had to edit the dumped ROM with a binary editor before it worked on other devices. Also, there often were problems with some SD card readers/writers, etc.
The best way would be getting a ROM update from the vendor (e.g Qtek) as a complete EXE-File. This could be flashed on other devices with the maupgrade_noid-Tool from xda developers FTP server.
So, it would be nice of you Qtek users, if you could write an e-mail to Qtek.ch!
They offer updates for Qtek users, but you need to mail your IMEI number. So MDA Pro users are not able to get Qtek updates this way.
I'll do this.. No problem..
Any other requests??

On a Gigabyte G-Smart.
Please forgive me, I realize that this forum is for XDA / HTC devices only, but I thought that with the wealth of knowledge on this board, somebody might have a quick solution to the proposed problem.
I am trying to create an "extended_rom" like solution on my Gigabyte, where files automatically get installed when a hard reset is done.
Any help our suggestions would be appreciated, although I realize this is not the focus of this board.
Thanks!
Wow , you have a gigabyte g-smart ?
can you please tell me wath is this rom version and can you realize a dump.bin with Grabbit software ?
Thanks a bunch for the reply...
Yeah, I have one. I have not been able to get the bin off of it, but I am using stuff that I wrote. Might have to grab something out there that is a bit more robust. The stuff I wrote works fine on HTC and HP stuff, but just seems to want to die on the Gigabyte. I am not suprised at this...
As for the ROM version, there is no Asset Viewer on the device, so the only version numbers I have gotten for the WHOLE DEVICE are as follows:
Windows Mobile Version 5.0 OS 5.1.195 (Build 1429.2.2.1) (Version of WM5, obviously)
The only other version that is readily available without poking through the entire registry is V1.08.12 assigned to the device by Gigabyte (Device Name: Pocket_PC Description: V1.08.12).
I am trying to find more information on the versions of the radio ROM as well as trying to be able to write to \IMGFS and/or \ROM...
Let me try to get the bin off of the device. Will try someone elses stuff now.
wow , 1.0812 ... very very interesting ...
Why don't you wan't to use grabbit software ??
it just make a file called dump.bin on your sdcard ....
youhave just to make a directory called 2577 on your sdcard , put grabbit.exe on it and rename to autorun.exe after that , put your sdcard on gigabyte and that's fun ....
It's not that I don't WANT to use grabbit.exe, it's that I don't HAVE grabbit.exe... and I have a rom dump program that I wrote that works on other devices.
Do you have a link to grabbit.exe? Quick search of this forum doesn't come up with anything when I search on "grabbit"...
Thanks!
EDITED TO SAY: Heh... found it... did a search on "grab_it" and found all of them. I will give it a try. Thanks!
wow cool !!!!
if you want , i can make an ftp for you or can you please upload your dump.bin in this ftp ...
i've a g-smart dump , but this is tha 1.05.20 ....
theoretically you can use my imgfs tools to edit ROM image. But you'll need a program that can update ROM, and create file in format that it understands.
yes mamaich , i've a dump.bin created with grab_it of a g-smart(1.05.20) and your tools works like a charm !!!!
Thanks so much for the suggestion!
mamaich, would you be able to post a link to the imgfs editor that you have? Or, I could just search for it on the forum. I actually think that I have it...
I have the bin file, will upload it soon.

Hi mates,
i have an i-teq BOND aka Gigabyte g-smart. It has rom v1.10.18 and is working very bad, absolut bad.
Is there any other rom (english) than this 1.05.13 that you are talking about.
Thanks.
I ave the i-Teq Bond as well with the similar crappy update and no old ROM.
The gigabyte ROMs are all in taiwanese or something like that, so not much use. :?
Anybody has i-Teq or Gigabyte gsmart ROM in English? :?:
Sjengie
I have a Gigabyte G-Smart with 1.08.12 English ROM. There are some issues with it and I'm looking for later firmware or a place to look for it.
There's so many different versions quoted on this thread that I'm unsure if I have the latest English ROM or whether there is something newer.
Can anyone summarise the versions out there?
wow fasteye ...
can you please dump your rom with grab_it and upload here ?
the 1.08.12 is the last , i think ... is the ansewr machine work ?
I don't have the grabit software. If someone is willing to provide a link to it then I'll give it a go.
This firmware is not great though hence I'm keen to find something better.
Without doubt the best Pocket PC phone I've used in terms of design and size just a pity that the firmware and battery are not better. TV and FM Radio don't seem to work in the UK.
Anyone know if there is any way to get T9 on it?

The 3 UK rom is simply a QTEK 9000 rom with 3UK customisations in the extended rom.
The files from the extended rom are available in the link below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=340982
I did make up a flashable extended rom as well but rapidshare has deleted it.
If you unlock your extended rom and replace all the files in it with the above then you have a 3uk version phone.

First of all Psidoc I would like to say thanks for the effort you have put in to bringing the 3 experience to others like my self who did not start off with a genuine 3 uni.
I am having a couple of issues I recently flashed the thing on a spring win mobile 6.1 rom onto my uni, fortunately thing on a spring packaged his rom up as a separate nk.nbf and an ruu installer, so all I had to do was drop your 10MB extended rom into the same folder as the RUU at it included it in the install for me !
I am now left with a partially customised device for example the dialler has the porper 3 logo in it (like the one in your avatar) but when I press the ie button on the keyb it says not assigned (not a big deal I can do a regedit for that. If I start up IE it comes up about.blank for the home page, also not a big deal. If I run some of the customisations independently I can get it to fix the homepage issue but here in lies the real problem, when I go to the real home page it is blank !! I think it is to do with this user agent business, so after all this rambling my question to you is which file sets up all the user agent stuff properly and will allow me to use the 3 portal ??
it's funny because with the thing on a spring rom, I had an error at the end of the customization, could not fing the TSK file even though I knew it was there, I just flashed ranju7.6 rom only and this time it customized with no problems ??
Some do some don't mate.
A lot of chefs cook roms specifically and they don't like random customisations. Also remember this extended rom is totally standard from a WM5 QTEK9000 so again some diffferences may occur when you apply it to WM6
Thanks again to Z£Y$ for posting the files that I could cook into an extended rom for general use.

It does work buts it's a bit of tedious mucking about to get it to do it. even original 3UK Qteks have problems with this.
I never use the portal, just surf the net.

I have a WM6.1 beta rom that expired on my PDA, but there is no future release. Is there a hack to prevent the rom being expired?
More information like make, model of pda and rom?
I have a IPAQ 6945 with WM6.1 loaded, but the beta expired, and the person who cooked it is no longer working on it. Does anyone know how to revive the PDA to the current date?
Try that:

Thanks for the link, I looked at the file, needs to be cooked into the rom, I need something to break the timebomb since my rom is already cooked. Anyway to disable timebomb after a cooked rom?
I am looking at some tutorials on how to cook my own WM6.1, so I can share for others who have a 69xx.

Pls post any pictures from you hw6945 & wm6
Looks like you need to share the rom before people can look at it.
Who did you get the rom from? If you're allowed to distribute it, share it, and then others can disassemble and remove the bomb.
There are various guides for ripping from various devices, but how did you install the rom in the first place? It'd be best to distribute it as you received it, as a cooked rom, rather than a rom rip, to be sure it's a complete and usable rom.
Where is the rom expiring? Once it's booted, or pre-boot? Please post screenshots in the mean time. But again, post the rom (if you're allowed to) and we'll take it apart.
V
I will post some screenshots, but I am not allowed to distribute the rom, but willing to take it apart and see what I can do. So any tools will be helpful.
WM 6.1
Hi blew888,
Show pics with your HP and WM 6.1 ROM
Here are the screenshots, to my settings, everything works fine, but the year is set to 2006, if I set to 2008, timebomb occurs, even if I use activesync to sync contacts. If anyone can help me find tools to decompile and recompile a rom that I can share, I will be appreciated.
Very nice,
But now how can you share the ROM ...???
Your beta OS was canceled due to lots of issue with the processor speed
The new wm6.1 looks like this
And if you want you can make it look like this
There is a problem with someone that wants to copy his installed OS but not gave the NBF file, there are more question to be asked due to the attached pictures but It looks like a very nice joke

What is your phone??

Yes, this is a really early build of 6.x. When I flash the OS, the welcome screen is all messed up, but I can set the default windows green them, looks like the WM5. I believe they tried to use the same theme, but I was able to fix the issues the theme.

Thanks for the effort
I tried the untouched pdaviet version but had a couple issues with it, but will try your modified version.
Keyboard is back to looking presentable!!! Thanks algasystems. Hey sanjay I still have the Windows Mobile Lawn boot screen though... It looks the same as the pdaviet rom I think... I'm not gonna reflash back to check but i'm pretty sure.
I guess it's a good thing you started this thread... the vulcan was probably going to loose it any day now.
I'm using the 4700 rom editor for mods, what are you using.
Thanks for saving me the work of cleaning up the rom!!!
Later..
Chemong: I wish you good luck, but don't believe you will find my variation fixes any issues such as battery problems. This is just a cleaner version of the same rom.
MannyMania: Interesting that you are still seeing the lawn. Here's the boot screen I now see. Oh well, at least the keyboard is fixed. I don't intend to do anymore to this since it now is good enough until Kozhura returns but hopefully others will take this and improve it.
I've used Vivi's kitchen in the past, but for simple changes such as these, I just use mamaich's tools directly. I credited Chamine in earlier posts for the boot splash change tips.
Hope this works for you.
Regards.
Just flashed to HX4700 PDAVIET wm6.1 and the keyboard looks familiar to me, thanx.
Ciao
Just a note:
The first time I tried the PDAViet version, I saw the rather undesireable bootsplash. I tried re-flashing the previous WM6.0, which did not un-do the bootsplash.
I found that the only way to get the original blue and white HP bootsplash is to re-flash your device with the official WM5 upgrade. If you don't have the WM5 upgrade, I bet any of the WM2003 ROM update patches will yield the same results (just visit HP's website and search for your device to visit the downloads).

Nice job, Sanjay! I ony had PDAVIet's version installed for a few minutes before I promptly removed it. You have solved every issue I had with their version.

Interesting. If people are seeing the PDAVIET splash and I'm not, your explanation may be why. When I reflashed my 4700 with the latest ROM, my previous flash may not have been undone. So thank you for the experiments.
Because of the capabilities of the 4700 (e.g. no phone), I believe this ROM can be made even leaner. I will try to repeat your steps and fix the flash the next time.
Do you think reflashing with a Kozhura WM6 ROM would accomplish the same thing? Even the thought of reverting back to the HP WM5 disaster causes me to shudder.
Regards.

Thanks!
I did the upgrade from PPC techs and my 4700 works fine, been over a year since they did it and no effects at all.
Also posted the new Sanjay 6.1 build to my website for those that don't want to use rapidshare.

Thank you Vivi. I've found your kitchen to be excellent as well and a great help for ROM tuning. I also read your tips including ones to remove the RGU files, but PDAVIET already had these deleted so I did not need to remove them. I still feel though that for the 4700 capabilities, there are other files that can be removed to free up more space. I will experiment more to see what I can do with this.
Regards,
Sanjay

Thank you dpdurst for posting the rom to your site. I don't have a site so I appreciate you doing this. It's the contribution of many and sharing that makes this better for all of us.
Regards.
Oh...and Happy Anniversary!

Thanks Sanjay,
rgu files are needed in using ROM Kitchen.
If no rgu files in ROM, no way to re-packages from that ROM and use ROM Kitchen.
I want to try this ROM but I also want to add my favorite programs in this ROM also.If no rgu files, then I have to manually add and edit it.
I am working with WM6.1 ROM for ASUS P525 and fixing WiFi error with no success , so no time to build Hx4700 WM6.1 from scratch.
BTW,thanks.
vivi
Someone should post the ATI drivers from the hx4700 on here.
