My hdd crashed and although I recovered the backup, it wasn't valid (bad sector most likely). There's a pretty straightforward guide and download in the Focus forum on how to flash your handset back to 7004.
I tried searching, but I'm only coming up with topics requesting such a thing. Can you please link the thread directly?

I have rooted my Xperia Play and used Titanium Backup to remove the bloat. I've got a backup of the System Apps folder so I can reinstall manually if needed. Is there any sort of Recovery that I can use to make a Nandroid, or is there some file somewhere I can download to restore back to factory when/if ICS is released for Verizon customers? And how do I know if I have an I, X, A, or whatever?
I've tried searching here in the forum, but with all the UK vs US, Orange, Rogers, Verizon, [Insert Your Carrier Here], locked BL vs unlocked BL posts, I can't seem to find answers to those 2 simple questions.
Thanks for your help and your patience. I'm new to this phone, but not new to rooting or Android.
I will help as much as I can
In order for us VZW Plays to have a custom recovery(to create a Nandroid), we have to unlock our bootloader. Which sadly for us VZW users, we have to pay to get ours unlocked by members here on the forum. From what I have read and heard they are great at it and don't leave you hanging. I personally think that VZW will release ICS for us, don't know when, later on Hope I helped.
Well I did read something about FTF (whatever that is) and stock firmware in the development thread, but I don't know which phone they are for. Also, I can't seem to download anything from a DropBox link. I always get a 404 page.
I did figure out if I go into about phone I can find my model (800x) and firmware version information. So that's progress, sort of.

You are on the right track. The R800x State of Development thread is for us Verizon users. The FTF files will get you completely back to stock and does not require an unlocked bootloader. You use a program called Flashtool.
Sent from my R800x using XDA App
I thought so, but I haven't been on this site long enough to post my question there. I tried to download the necessary files, but for some reason, I always get a 404 page when I try to download anything from DropBox.
If I were to delete the bloatware apps and a system update rolls around, I just need to reinstall the removed apps and the update should run, right?

Correct BUT it can be a PIA to remember which ones you removed.
I would either just freeze them with Titanium Backup or flash the FTF files when an update comes out.

Yeah, in retrospect, I should have thought to write down what I removed before I did so, but...
Once a noob, always a noob, I guess.
I've tried the method detailed here http://forums.androidcentral.com/sp...oot-your-sprint-galaxy-s3-23.html#post3158960 using both CWM and TWRP but neither can mount the SD card (internal or external)
A user in the Android Central forums seemed to be describing the exact issue I was having in the support thread linked above and mentioned a Toolkit method working, so I researched and found http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746680&page=46 but the link to the files is gone, and the support thread was closed Oct 18th (a couple of days ago), and no explanation.
Also tried the CF method detailed in this vid (among other places) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pg3C4ddgNww Root Checker said no-go.
Any ideas what's up and will root be possible on the phone I bought 2 weeks ago? I'm gutted because I did my due diligence and researched the root methods for the S3 before getting it. It all looked so easy then, but I've been in front of my PC for hours trying to get this. Have I missed something?
Really could use that hotspot next week. :/
Thanks, and I sincerely appreciate all the efforts put into development.
If your s3 is new, you need to use one of the modified recoveries from the general section. And check this thread out

I made the mistake of thinking Skunkape's thread over at android central was the linking to the same file. It was the same named file, contained what apperaed to be the same files int he zip, same user name and instructions. But it's not the same file. I redownloaded the file at the start of the XDA version of the thread, tried again and now have root. Sweet!
I added a comment to the android central thread but I hope the OP is updated when Skunkape has a chance. For years I've seen the same instructions on both sites by the same users, linking to the same files. Defo got caught out this time. Doh!
Thanks for the reply metalfan and rock on!
You're welcome syco, glad I could help. I've learned to just get everything I need from xda. I go to other sites for info but I always double check things with the good people around here.
Hello and good day all

My main subject in this thread is to request full backup files but not for "three".

Thanks.

hopefully we have a lot of participants post non three one , and its OK if we try different backups to look for the working one.
Hey there.
Not in the US, as such, no call screen. Have seen people with success in getting call screen after rooting and editing some libraries. Looking to do this.
In the event I stuff it up, how does one restore a Pixel back to full stock? - Have experience before with HTC (RUUs), but not with Pixel. Is there a regional / sub-set difference with the models?
Thanks!
The mod process HERE is very easy and only involves editing a few flags in an XML file. You simply save a copy of that file before you start to a safe location and then edit the original. If for some reason you want to revert any changes, you just use the copy to overwrite the modified file. To answer your overall question about re-setting to stock, all the information is available on the Google Development page HERE where all the stock system images are free to download.
I'd be interested to see how you get on with the mod, because there are reports of it working in the UK and Canada so far. There is supposedly a Magisk module to do this mod for you as well but I haven't looked for it yet. If you need help getting rooted there are sticky threads on how to do this.
Thanks for the comprehensive answer.
I was planning to give it a go yesterday, but I'm already on the December security patch, and I didnt see any instructions yet for December, so I erred on the side of caution and decided to wait until I found some success with the December patch before proceeding.
