Anyone using an I-mate PDA2K EVDO? - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

I have recently changed jobs which has required a relocation to a rural (country) setting. It turns out the location does not support digital mobile phone service and my O2 XDA II is back to being just a PPC So I need to get a CDMA unit.
The company I work for is buying me an I-mate PDA2K EVDO unit. It is pretty much like my O2 XDA II but with the slide out keyboard and the new Windows 2003SE operating system.
Specs are listed as:
System: 1xEV-DO, dualband 800/1900 MHz
Operating System: Windows Mobile™ 2003 software for Pocket PCs (2nd Edition)
Colour: silver
Dimensions: 69.8mm (W) x 125mm (H) x 18.7mm (T)
Weight: 210 approx.
Screen: 3.5inch, 64K colour Tranflective Touch screen, 240 x 320 Pixels
Camera: VGA 640 x 480, flash light
Keyboard: Built in 39 keys QWERTY keyboard
Inbuilt Bluetooth™ v1.1 and Infrared
Processor: Intel PXA263 400 MHz
Memory: 128MB RAM, 64MB ROM, with SDIO/MMC slot for even more memory
Battery: Removeable and rechargeable lithium-ion Polymer battery, up to 15 hours in PDA mode
Talk time: up to 4 hours
Standy time: up to 168 hours
Audio: Crisp audio playback via WAV/WMA/MP3 full stereo player
I'm looking forward to its arrival and giving it a good work out. You can view a detailed pdf fact sheet from http://www.imate.com/files/i-mate_PDA2k_EVDO_brochure.pdf
Anyone have any experience with this unit or CDMA phones in general?

Blue Angel Versions

Hi there,
Can someone explain if there is any real difference between the Blue Angel versions? i-mate PDA2K, MDA III, QTEK 9090, IIs and so on...
I am talking about a real difference for example the amount of ROM memory (which in some places I see 64mb and some places 96mb, which is correct?) operating system version and so on...
If there is a difference, which should I buy?
Thanks.
no difference
There are differences actually. Depending on model you might not get WiFi built in or a camera built in.
TMobile which is to release the MDA III might not have a camera
Sprint is releasing 2 versions with and without the camera, but both will be without WiFi
To my knowledge only WiFi and the camera are the missing parts from some models

Great, thanks.
And does it have 64mb ROM or 96mb ?
Ed,
What links do you have to support this?
All phone that are out today are the same. In the future there will be some without Camera's for the corporate users. The only thing that I have seen without WiFi will be the i-mate JAM but that looks completely different.
ok here goes:
this one says 96mb:

and this one 64mb:

Sprint - Comes in the 6600/6601 (AudioVox) models. Both models are without Wifi support. The 6600 is the one that comes with the Camera.
http://www.sprint.com/business/products/phones/ppc6601_allPcsPhones.jsp
This link just shows that the 6600 model comes with a camera
http://www.pocketpccentral.net/news/10-26-04_ppc6600.htm
Verizon - Should be the same AudioVox models that Sprint uses
The whole reason for the lack of WiFi support is rumored to be a conflict with the EV-DO signal used by CDMA. You can look in many different forums for a discussion on this. I personally think the lack of WiFi support is just to save on support costs.
Cingular and ATT are supposed to be getting the Siemens SX66. It is supposed to be the full HTC Blue Angel specs. Nothing missing
http://www.engadget.com/entry/6548012790166434/
T-Mobile is calling it the MDA III which is already being sold in Germany. The US model may or may not come with a camera.
SX66 May not have a camera. I think they will do what they are with the sprint version. one with and without the camera... It's not actually out yet and "no one" officially knows yet.
Not all Blue Angels are the same !!
Some fly better than others.
In Australia we have 2 models of PDA2K.
PDA2K EVDO -
Phone/Radio - EVDO/1XRTT/CDMA
No Wifi
PDA2K GSM -
Phone/Radio - GSM Triband
Wifi onboard

I wonder which three 3G bands it supports. Keep in mind T-Mobile is a loner on its 3G frequency allocation. Even HTC said they'd have trouble making an all-band phone supporting every GSM band and every 3G band in one phone.
