People!
What IEs do you use? I suppose only a few people use the original PIE - big buggy single-windowed piece of $hit!
I use MultiIE, but it has an annoying bug (coming from PIE it's built on), so I wanted to make my life better...
I tried ftxPBrowser, but it seems to be very far from final yet. Actually, it's HPC version (99kb only :!: ) looks pretty good (in landscape), but doesn't work with PPC2002/WM2003...
Are there any good viewers? Any of them support 640x480 landscape?

If you have, any comments? It looks promising, is it compatable with the Hermes?
You might want to check here.
I have used it, very promising UI for WM6 but I don't think its ready for everyday use yet.. By far the smoothest interface I've used, however.
Nice UI
I am using it for 72 Hrs now.
had some problems with the calandar view - fixed in version 1.0b.
in general very nice UI.
love the online update feature.
It's buggy, but has good potential.
I had it on my Hermes for a few hours, but ulitmately uninstalled it. It is a cool program, but definately has it's flaws.
Pros:
- Slick, fast UI
- Easy to use/understand
- Quite useful
- Update is very simple
- A very welcome change to HTC Home
Cons:
- In-Call volume adjustment is not possible as of yet (on Hermes at least)
- No easy way to close it
- Upon wake/power-on, it is 'minimized' to the top bar
- Scrolling is backwards, ie. you don't scroll as if flipping pages like an iPhone, you scroll towards the direction you want to go
I only used it for a few hours, but over all i was very impressed. Knowing that this is essentially the first release, I look forward to future, bug-fixed versions.
Hope this was helpful to everybody
So so
I've had it running for two days now. Keep switching back and forth. Certainly the smoothest/easiest touch interface that I have used. Can't wait to see where it goes.
excellent bit of kit
a wee bit to go on trials before i do a complete switch to it
but
i am sure in a few months it will be a blinder
ive tried and really like it! before this i was using the whoneedsaniphone interface, which I recommend checking out. but, that was simply a quick launch program. im keeping the pointui program as i have not had any problems except the in call volume which i just make sure i adjust after my daily soft reset. no biggie. great job on the program and now they just need a way to change the background!
They just released an update for it, fixed a few glitches, and also posted instructions on how to customize (customise as they put it... Aussies) some of the short cuts; like Media Player or Email account.
i installed and quickly uninstalled. it's just not flexible enough for me yet. i'll certainly keep an eye on development though and give it a try again in the future.
I installed and used it for some hours. It's a very nice interface but lacks of some things:
No customization of colors or Background
Cannot select the default screen (clock, calendar, tasks,) it always starts with the ugly clock
The call list don't work with international numbers (eg. +541234567). it omitts the +
to update the weather inforation expects an mobile data connection (eg- GPRS), with WLAN enabled, I cannot update the weather
Cannot really close running apps, like with X-Button
this will be a great UI. needs some improvement for everyday use.
Been using it for a few days now, works very well.
Theres obviously a way to go with it, but im happy to use it for everyday right now. Coreplayer is set for the music icon.
Aslong as the UI continues to be a quick responsive beast as it is now i see nothing but great things for it. Next MAJOR update should be a goody!
it's sick...
lets examine this statement:
A. It's smooth as F*** and makes the iphone interface kinda scared.
B. It's sick... as in, *cough*cough* "I should stay home from school today, and maybe tomorrow or the next update, it will be ready to take some lunch money.
Did I mention it's smooth, lectric smooth...
Keeps connecting to update automatically and not on demand which is a turn off for me
i have to say i like it, i think they released a working version on the 1st of january for the publicity side of it.
And no one can really moan since these guys are giving it to us for free.
It will only get better as theyve stated when they have the version for wm5 & 6 ironed out, they will be looking for improve and then relase a version for wm2003, an outdated system.
Things will only get better as they are actively listening to what the user wants, so give them your feedback!
it's absolutely worth a try.
It's a brilliant piece of software.
i installed the first version, and the updates.
I actually installed in when i flashed a new ROm, and built my UI around it.
The interfaces is smooth and fast.
BUT- it definitely has small bugs to be worked out. I'm not presently running it anymore (but didn't uninstall it...) but actively watching to see how it goes, because it's the first really new idea along these lines that is more than just a Today screen.
installed and uninstalled on 2 devices, there are bugs in it that they will address, its not configurable which is a big turn off and you have a choice of background and colour, as long as you choose BLUE.
Another thing about these wonderful interfaces is they need to you smear your screen with greasy fingerprints to use them (unless you use your stylus then of course it makes them sort of pointless) this also goes for the touchflow craze thats going on.. why add extra wear and tear on the screen when its not needed...?? oh and of course when this specific screen was not built and tested for repetative finger use. MTBF reduced, New Screens on order I hope
its all about ease of use, if your screen gets dirty, get a cloth out and wipe accordingly.
it s some kind of funny toy to play with, surely worth a try
worth to keep on every day use? not really, imo
especially because the tytn/hermes was not meant for finger use. i think the only real finger use supporting device is the iphone (or the ipod touch)
has anyone who has used this also tried the cube? Is this any different than that? Is it smoother? Can you do everything in the Pointui as you would without it?
whats your idea of a perfect rom? whats it got to have on it? or is there already a perfect rom already? my idea of a perfect rom, basically has a great battery life, can run many games perfectly and has opera mini and doesnt suffer from hard resets.....
Well each use their phone differently. Personally what's on my signature is spot on. I have no issues as I run skyfire browser. Pushes email with exchange 2k7 I don't play games on my phone as it is purely a business device.
A light ROM that has a device update type program to add whatever you want. I would love to say something with M2D or something along those lines but I dont really like any of the options so far. I would rather have it clean and simple and be able to build from there.
Phone function should be fast
I have noticed few other devices of Windows Mobile 6.1, they don't have any problem with the dialer and phone system. Its fast and responsive but here in Hermes it seems its not focused. I am using Faria's Last rom and working fine but yes the phone function is same as before. I have video caller installed and wanted to stay with it otherwise what is the use of 3G network and video phone I have.
ok lets see...
Many problems arent rom issues like Hardresets sooo lets center on my point...
1.- Conections are the future... share is the pulse of new hybrid devices so...
R---- It cant has Bluetooth issues i would like to send from beam a file via BT or pair a stereo headphones without troubles, has BT folder FTP. IRDA fully functional i mean Push via beam and receive too... many issues with this becomes (cause its obsolet). Wm5torage without problems. Wifi without issues for WPA or WEP... Mmmm no issues on comm manager. UMTS HSDPA i dont have problems with this.
2.- Speed is the best way to feel power!... even if they outside are Devices with 200hmz are faster!
R----So I know the speed becomes with new builds even more and more... but it can be performed so much more with some tricks... and the Ram... needs to be intact... i mean no Apps running hide.
3.- The love comes from the Eyes... NEW UI please.
R---- The Icons needs to be atractive... leave the default apps by HTC work good (ok ok with their fixes like HTC home, WMP, etc etc) but with some skins. the phone with opal canvas is really nice. The bars and wall paper dont matters are cuztomizable... the start Icon needs to be a new one not the orb of new builds the BW or the Normal ORB... maybe a newone or Vista likely.
(M2D... maybe but i think it becomes great of flavors ROM one light... A full and a M2D... maybe One with the sidebar by Omnia)
4.- Performance... I hate Soft reset every 2 hours hahahaha
R----The OEM package doesnt matter... maybe the 20207 was the most stable... I dislike everytime make softresets... so i reed somewhere even the newer is not the worth!!! And please fix the PIE cause Skyfire experiments much troubles today they shuts off the sound
5.- Real BIg Storage PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we need storage cause many apps works much better on device memory.
6.- Office works fully many version dont works well... are the most worth it cause bussiness. and all the shortcuts please--- new sounds too.
Hello,
I was very very excited about the news that CM9 now supports HWA and so is fully compatible with our beloved Defy.
After reading all the positive comments about no bugs, no lags, everything great, I installed it myself (from scratch) and must say that I was disappointed.
I used CM7 for a long time and it is still not bug free, but CM9 is far from RC or Stable I must say.
- boot time is long.
- Apps need much time to load
- overall snappieness is not as great as discribed
- quite a few apps do not respond and hang with a pop-up window about WAIT/KILL/REPORT
What I would like to know is: What is the advantage of CM9/ICS over CM7/GB?
What I love about ICS is the much more mature UI.
/edit:
Collected PRO's:
- ability to display (and change) all volume controls at the same time
- better Apps, in some cases (e.g. GMail)
- much nicer folders (haven't found a launcher with similar feature for CM7)
- display of recent apps/running apps A LOT better
- ICS controls look and work better (e.g a scrolling wheel for time selection)
- mature UI
Well, the cm9 the way it is today is a very initial port for a device that was in every way locked down from motorola for it does not exist and devs heroically tried to overcome difficulties.
It is not even a RC yet. So if you say cm7 is faster, more stable, better battery performance, you are probably correct, because its development is more mature . But why the the hell you are comparing them? What's your point in saying you are disappointed with the CM9?
Sent from my MB525 using Tapatalk 2
yes, so far, cm9 is not mature, you can stick to cm7 for a while then come back
why do I compare two versions of a firmware, well, I'd like to know the true advantages over cm7 so I can decide if its worth using it. i tried it and for now i think stableism is more important... but i'll be to curious soon anyway.
cm7 rocks
Ive been testing cm9 with and without HWA, both eppys and fuzz's builds. This weekend i decided to try Fuzz's cm7. I cant find any bugs and I was shocked at how much faster it was and scrolling home screens is smoother ( i use Mihome launcher with the superb leather theme! ). I wont be switching to cm9.... but cm10 is another matter.

me too... I was dissapointed about CM9 too, because i thought it would be faster with the HWA enabled but it didn't happen. You're right when you say the UI looks more mature than gb's one (in fact i LOVE the ics UI). I hope all the bugs can be fixed and have a good ROM after all.
Have you guys tried the fast black edition 1.2???
Best and fastest ICS i´ve used. There should be a new version coming soon, since 1.2 is before de HWA stuff.
Trying to summarize, why I favor CM9 over CM7, despite the shortcomings:
- ability to display (and change) all volume controls at the same time
- better Apps, in some cases (e.g. GMail)
- much nicer folders (haven't found a launcher with similar feature for CM7)
- display of recent apps/running apps A LOT better
I'm sure I'm forgetting something here... but anyway, that's what's important for me.
Some of you guys are missing the point of a development forum badly as well as what cm9 port represents. Are you disappointed, seriously?

I was disappointed because expectations were high due to overly optimistic comments in the according threads.
On the other hand I am very thankful that we have the opportunity to use and test ICS and performance and bugs get better eventually... I hope so!
Sincerely.

Yes, we're complaning about "minimal bugs" compared with other devices which can't run ICS from the start...
They said they're working to release a RC so... we'll wait

I agree and want to add:
+ ICS controls looks and works better - E.g a Scrolling wheel for time selection
Jelly bean going source today..
I would anytime go on CM9 then CM7 for the obvious reason that it looks beautiful and I love the settings page of it! It has good features. I have a neo V so I know what it feels to have ICS on your device

Exactly. I almost considered switching back to CM7 until CM9 was a bit more polished, but I realized I'd loose out on the MUCH SUPERIOR gmail app, and others, as well as the refinements in settings and controls.
For the record, anyone looking for a nearly identical ICS launcher (to trebuchet) for CM7 should give Holo Launcher a try. In many ways, it is more feature rich than trebuchet. I couldn't link to the play store page. (new user)
Replacing TouchWiz with the clean new look of lollipop is something I wish I could do, but some missing features ruin it for me! Crashes, GPS problems, and especially the camera.
I take a lot of pictures, and I enjoy the Samsung Camera. Having to use Google Camera is just.. bleh. It's simple. WAY too simple.
Why is there really no solid, universal camera application? There are many camera apps on the play store, but I've tested almost all of them, and they ALL lack something important.
Has anyone else desired a powerful universal camera application?
Or know of one that isn't missing any key features.
Try open camera? I love it. Doesn't have beauty face and extra modes but as far as an actual camera for free it's great Imo
I'm assuming you talking about running a non-touchwiz rom that doesn't come with the Samsung camera.?
Surely you can find an apk for a compatible version. ?
The latest stable version of cyanogenmod 13 in the original android section is running pretty stable for me. No GPS problems or crashes. Just make sure to turn off the automatic brightness since that's a bit wonky.
As far as camera apps. Try a better camera or ABC I think it's called. It's pretty feature packed.
Snapcamera. Hands down the best out of the box in terms of features and control over settings. Now, the proprietary camera app that Samsung bundles has lower level access to the hardware that no 3rd party developer can tango with...yet. The low light options work the sensor differently from what I understand (takes multiple high speed images and composites them, that's why it tells you to hold still when snapping the shot). That being said, if you hate touchwiz, which I do, run with CM13, grab Snapcamera, be happy.
