Umm, there are several differences between the two.
No, you can't get the update for the XDA or XDA II
it's not available.

WM 2003 SE supports VGA resolution (480x640) and landscape mode. And as wiredup said, it's not available for the XDA I & II.

Even if it was available for XDA I and II, I believe it will take some time for the most of our current applications vendors to release a bug-free versions of their s/w for SE ... after all, WM2003 with working s/w is much more better than only a nice empty operating system

Ya some of the features would be nice but can't see much benifit in going full steam ahead just yet as most applications I'm guessing will have problems with the landscape mode...
I've heard that O2 is planning on launching the W2003 Second Edition in around November for XDA users... but they are unsure if it will be a free upgrade just yet...

BackPack and WM2003SE
Do you know what would be great?
If the WM2003SE upgrade will cooperate with the BackPack. Just imagine your XDA2 connected to the TV or VGA monitor working in real 640x480 resolution !
Imagine yourself with XDA2 connected to the TV (in a hotel during vacations, it the country during the weekend, ...), working with Excel, Word, Outlook, iExplorer in true VGA resolution, bluetooth keyboard on your desk - just imegine that!

Even though WM2003SE supports 480x640 resolution, the XDA and XDA II are still limited to 240x320. You can only use the VGA resolution on Pocket PCs with a VGA screen. You can use landscape mode on the XDA and XDA II though.

Oh my God!
You can use even 1024x768 with XDA2 on external display using the BackPack and this is what I'm talking about!

you may be able to make the tvout or monitor out display 1024_768
but it dont make your picture a better quality
it's like zooming on a picture the pixels will just inc in size
you will not get any more of them

If you allow me mates, I have a different opinion ...
The XDA or similar was desinged to be a "pocket" PC ... for a limited computing tasks like getting a note, reading urgent e-mails, ... etc.
For those power users who want to have a full PC features like a VGA output and full size keyboard (even if it's foldable!!) and a mouse .. etc, I think their best option would be a tablet PC.
However, what is this kind of vacation in which I would be interested in using Word and Excel ???

math or creative-writer camp ?

Opera for BA

Does anybody know how to run Opera on XDA machines like I-Mate PDA2K?
Thank you in advance for any information.
Eugene.
It's not made for PPC, only SmartPhones
Perhaps you can try Minimo: http://weblogs.mozillazine.org/dougt/archives/008595.html

And please provide the cab file you used to install.
This should in no way be possible as SmartPhone and PocketPc are two wery different platforms.
Mninimo don't run, searching for other solution...
Unfortunately, Mininmo doesn't run on PDA2K. Does anybody here don't interesting in working Opera on our devices?
opera for smartphone works on my xda2 with wm5.0 due to the fact that ms is joining requirements of wm for smartphones and wm for ppc's (in order to express it in very simple words). under wm5.0 smartphone and ppc edition all programs should work on both platforms. usually the installer of a program detects the os where it is installed and obviously the smartphone installer accepts wm5.0
regards
peter
ps: btw, it does not only accept the installation, it even works perfectly (of course without touch screen support, because smartphones do not have one).
You're right. It doesn't work...
Hmmm....doesnt Nokia9500 run Opera?

windows mobile 2003 se or 2005

hi all,
first posting to the site so far and i some questions. so if someone could indulge me and answer these for me that would be great. i have an on xda 2 running on the latest upgrades from o2 (still no portrait to landscape though, what a pain!)
1. is there some kind of utility out there that can give mobile 2003 the portrait to landscape functionality?
2. is there any kind of sdk out there for the xda 2?
3. can the xda 2 be upgraded to either 2003 se or 2005?
4. if it can are there any limitations or drawbacks to doing so?
5. how difficult is it to backup the rom on the xda 2 and also how difficult is it to reload it back in the event of a problem?
6. anyone recommend a good fps for the xda 2. (one that takes advantage of the landscape option should it be available!!)
7. sorry to ask so many questions.
thanks in advance!!
1 yes http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=16025&highlight=landscape
2 yes it use the normal pocketpc stk's which stk you want depend on which version you use
3 yes
4 well the 2003SE is manualy translated by ppl from this forum i believe from chineese to english and that can give some issues i guess and also
the reason it was not released by the mayor english companys like o2 and tmobile could make one believe there are issues they dident want to work on fixing
2005 is a leaked beta rom and only supported by buzzdev and the himalaya device is not really hardware 2005 based which mean ppl have to use ram disk to get storage because soo little flash is present
5 depend on what you mean with backup a rom is a rom and any rom of the same operator and version you install will be like the rom you have now excluding the stuff you put on it
the stuff you put on it you have to backup yourself using xbackup, spiritebackup or activesync backup
6 games dont require the pocketpc windows to support landscape they handle their own screen in/output
many mayor know pc fps are made and free for pocketpc like
doom1 & 2, heretic, hexen, wolfenstein, quake 1 & 2, duke nuke'em 3d
you find them using search in this forum or in google with a search like this "Doom Pocketpc" and the likes

Just True Vga for IE

I still am at a loss. Is there not hack to just get IE to work in true VGA I have been through the forums and can not find just this one thing. A little help please
and Happy New Year to everyone
try Opera...rendering better and true vga for content
I had tried opera and it didn't feel the same to me as IE did. I had sold my hp hx4700 running se_vga and ie and was happy with it. With both my jasjar and o2 xda exec I could not get se_vga to run tried the ozvga and I don't have view. I may just have to play around with the settings. I am trying to merge everything
into one device now and I have been using a Nokia 770 internet tablet and oddly I love the display how it all fits in and want the same with my jasjar. I just hate dragging everything around with me when one should be enough.
Thanks for the reply
Wait till Crossbow or use a proper/better browser.

Ivan's AKU 3.5 has build in VGA for IE.

TP2 and mice.....

Hi Folks,
I have wondering how to implement some kind of mousing on the TP2 since obviously it does lend itself to mini mini laptop activities. I did find a company called http://www.teksoftco.com which does a driver for bluetooth mice as well as USB optical mice.
Would it be wonderful if there was one of those spongy knobs in the middle of the keyboard for cursor manipulation like on those old IBM laptops.
Any comments, particularly the first bit.
Thanks,
Sam
Why would I want to install a mouse to the TP2? It's big enough already and having to drag around a mouse all the time where using the stylus is so much faster and easier? I don't really see the benefits of it....
I used to have a little BT mouse with my good old htc universal... great! simply great!! it would be nice to use it again with the TP2, but it's almost impossible to find the driver to download..and btw, would it work with wvga screens, or just regular qvga /vga ones??
@ kork: so little it's easy to lose it without noticing. a bunch of grams more, when I carry at work a bag of 3 4 kg is nothing noticeable
Hi cyberpunk,
I have jext got this from the tecksoftco site:
Name: BlueInput Driver for Bluetooth Mouse and Keyboard
Version: 1.5.RC-4
Release date: November 5, 2008
Supported Platform: Pocket PC with Microsoft Bluetooth Stack / WM5.0 or newer / BT Mouse+Keyboard compatible
Supported Screen Size: SQUARE, SQUARE VGA, QVGA, VGA, WQVGA, WVGA (all)
So it looks positive... I will asks thought. Being from the UK I did a double take on "BT Mouse" thinking that it was sold by British Telecom(BT) but it is for "Bluetooth" - doh....
Sam
double post.... due to system hang

If you had a wireless mouse and were using the TP2 for video-out presentation or video viewing duties, it could make life easier. Seems like a pretty niche need though.
There are apparently drivers that let you use the phone as a USB host rather than client, allowing you to hook up mice, keyboards and even external HDs. I'm not sure if anyone has had any success, there's mention of it in the tricks sticky post in this forum.
yep, but someone reported them as not working. not so much discussion about this though too bad, blame on ppc manufacturers who don't consider this function! it's so important when on the move!
@samjolly: thanks a lot mate! do you know if this driver works on TP2, and mostly important with an old "thinkoutside bluetooth travel mouse"? it used to have its own drivers shipped...but it's been 3 or 4 years since i purchased it! tried on omnia and didn't work, argh °_°
PS: I'm a bit scared of trying for first delicate things like drivers without having heard any positive feedback first
forgive me guys, but xda is slooooooooooow and keeps sending 2 copies of every message I post. must be something wrong with it.

A note of caution; the TP2 doesn't use the Microsoft stack, unlike many other current HTC devices, that's why there are problems with some devices. I'm not saying it won't work but......

Folks,
This was my response from TeckSoftCo:
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
BlueInput is compatible with devices running Windows Mobile (minimum WM5.0) and that have the Microsoft Bluetooth Stack installed.
You can download a trial versin of BlueInput for free, from www.teksoftco.com and see if it runs well.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
So interesting point about TP2 apparently not using the MS BT stack which seems a bit weird.

thanks a lot to both samjolly and gordon for the useful info! I hope we'll be able to solve this mistery

dead thread, i see, but to answer last post, both the bluetooth and usb possibilities are there now on the teksoft site. looks like 10 euro for the usb hid driver, 15 for the broadcom bluetooth driver.

if hvga badly off applications?

i am hesitation at this time, tonight i will go to buy a mobile phone, diamond and hd mini are my favourite, and i think hd mini is better, but many people say that only have a few app. of hvga,is it ture?and some people say many app. can run at all ............
oh my god,help me please............
In my opinion, it's better to buy mini..
Below some of basic advantages,
1) Better Screen Resolution
2) Better CPU
3) Better Camera (unfortunatelly without flash as Diamond)
4) Better GPS
Some of basic disadvantages,
1) Not run all of application which have been published until today. However that happens because of is briliant new HVGA resolution. You must be patient until programmer convert all of our applications
2) Fonts aren't so clear. But there is a tip (try to search for "ClearType") which face this issue at all !! That will be the first that you must do when you buy the phone
3) Does't not have stylus, since its capacity screen
Hi...
Thanx for advicec about HD Mini but i just did't understend you about Clear Type font...i can't finde that option anywhere
Cleartype is not a font, it is Microsoft's font smoothing technology which has been present in every windows mobile device till the HD Mini!
It transforms the awful text display on the Mini to properly readable text (though not in landscape mode) but you need a registry editor to obtain it.
Google HD Mini Cleartype to find how to do it, or post back here. I don't have mine with me at present so can't check
Cleartype thread is in mini's general forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=664717
Hi,
Are you speaking about Diamond 1 vs HD mini.
Diamond was my old phone and mini my new one.
Diamond does not have any flash either!
Mini has clearer screen and it is a lot more responsive than Diamond.
But mini do not have front camera. For other thing mini is better.
Regarding apps, effectively not all apps run on mini, but only VGA are running on Diamond. A lot of QVGA and WQVGA apps are running on mini just well. For me, I ported all the needed apps running on Diamond on my new mini but SlideIT.
