Extracting .cab files - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

is there any way of extracting the .cab files from (desktop based) software setup files? l would like to create an autorun type of program that executes all the .cab files listed in a corresponding config.txt file in a similar way to the one in the extended ROM.

if you just want to open it then total commander does that without any problem
if you want a cmd line extractor to call from a program then google would prob give some results on that search

please i need cab extractor.cab apps because I have not a pc, so to extract cab files from exe.
thank you in advance

ERD2003 how to install a *.EXE file

I wan't to add an executable to my ROM (i know how to add *.cab) how should i do that ?
So in my case i want to add PocketNav.exe and it should be installed into the following directory: \Windows\StartUp\
Is it possible to do that or is there a way to make a cab file from it wich will install it into the correct folder

Me too
I too would like to know this. I have spb pocket plus and some other software which i would like to load into ext ROm. All you clever people out there please help. :?
if they are activesync install exe files they are bin files following the x86 cpu instructionset which of cause a pocketpc cant execute
if they are exe activesync install files you can often rename them to zip and copy out the cab files for your cpu which is arm
@Rudegar
We know the difference between a windows file and a PPC file.
In our case we are talking about a plane PPC file.

google knows all

Windows setup files to PPC cab install files?

Is it possible to convert a Windows setup file to a PPC CAB file so you can place it in your extended rom?
If so, how do you do it?
Thanks
rokujou
I don't think it's possible.
BUT.. after you installed a certain software on your device, go to the installation directory on your desktop computer. you can find there the relevant cabs in 99% of the installations.
choose any cab file, which contain the letters "ARM" assuming you are using one of the phone enabled devices.
thanks I didn't think of that.
Well that more or less answers my question anyway

sure it's possible rename the exe file to zip and copy out the arm cab file

Newbie question: getting CAB files from exe

Hello,
I would like to know how can I extract the .cab files from an exe file that is an application installer (the exe should be run on the PC).
I think that the active sync saves a copy of the cab files, but I am not sure. If using activesync is the only way, it's fine, but I prefer a method that does not install the software first and it does not involve activesync.
Thank you,
Eran
Well it really depends on the application, there is not always one answer that fits all things.
You can try using a program like WinRAR and right click on the PC exe, you may see an option to extract the files, if you do chances are you'll gain access to the cab files. Things like the ROM updates work this way.
Sometimes this method doesn't work. Then you may need to install the program on your PC. You'll need to look on your C drive for the folder the program creates, generally this will be with in the C:\Program Files\ folder or the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Activesync\ folder. This folder can be easy or hard to find.
Another method is to set Pocket File explorer to "Show all files" (you'll need to tap and hold on the white space at the bottom of the page, and select this option from the menu that pops up.) Then go to \My Device\Windows\AppMgr\Install\ and wait for the file to appear here when you first install it. Note that in WM5 you are generally asked if you wish to install the program, DO NOT ANSWER THIS QUESTION instead go to pocket file explorer and look at the \My Device\Windows\AppMgr\Install\ folder your cab should be here, after it is installed it will be deleted from this folder and some times cabs are partly deleted in the install process. (it maybe necessary to install two or more programs at the same time to get a working copy of your program cab file.

How to know files to be modified

I want to cook a ROM for my Prophet (Jamin)
I want to delete some programs that I don't need from AKU Aserg 3.13 and Add some programs that I use them
So I download tools for cooking rom and extract the ROM to my PC...
But I don't know how can I determine the files for a program That i want to delete or ADD from ROM.
for example I want to delete Total Commander from my ROM and ADD Resco Explorer 2007 !
But I don't know which Files and DLL files are related to Total Coammander , and I have an EXE file or CAB file for Resco Explorer how can i put Resco Explorer or other program to my ROM?
Thanks for helping me.
Couple of notes:
1) There is a free tool called "Dependency walker" which will show you what DLL files a certain exe is linked to.
2) There are several apps that can unpack a cab file, some free some not just google for them.
You will have 2 problems with Resco explorer:
a) If the cab contains a setup.dll you would need to find out what that does and replicate its function or the installation will not be complete.
b) This is a commercial program so you need to find out how its registration is stored (which is not easy) and add the registration manually.
There's a tool call ssnap (system snap?) to take a snap shoot of yr PDA (registry, file systems). Then use a diff tool (beyond compare is very good but not free) to compare the before and after install (and register)

we know that the programs in te ROMs is not sufficient so we install programs for our needs. for example Dr.YAR Bluetooth manager, SPB pocket plus , SPB Mobile shell that use storage memory for installing and can't be install correctly in Storage card, so the Storage memory will be full after installing these programe and same...
So would u plz help me to put these file to my AKU3.13 ROM ?

Cab Creator

Hello my friends,
I am using a Macintosh computer and I have problems installing many application that are in the .exe format. The only format suitable format is .cab
Is there a programm for PPC or Macintosh that creates .cab files from the .exe files?
Thanks in advance!
Not that I know of, but almost all software is available in cab format as well as exe. I run Xubuntu and have yet to find something (other than games) not available in cab form.
Thanks for your answer!
Yes you are right, but Its a lot more convenient to be able to make them myself!
Often the .exe is a shell for a .cab file, with maybe some xml thrown in. most can be unzipped or un-rar'd, exposing the .cab files within.
