Hi Chaps & Chappesses
Just received my Hotsync USB car Charger , bought on e-bay.co.uk for £7.99 from www.morpethmobiles.co.uk. More useful and a fraction of the price of O2's standard car charger.

I tried charging my Jas Jar via this Belkin soution (auto adapter model # USB-CLA) that I purchased for my Dell Axim X30. I had assumed it would provide power to any device that could charge via USB, but it does not provide a charge to the Jas Jar. I also tried the Belkin AC (wall) adapter but it still did not charge the device.
Does the Jas Jar require a higher output auto/wall charger, perhaps something like this BoxWave product? Has anyone found anything that works?
I have tried my el cheapo car charger usb bluetooth headset charger
and it charges fine with usb in my car..
autocharger
Autocharger for Universal is the same like autocharger for MDA Compact (HTC Magician). Now, my Universal is charged from this and it works great! And another advantage is, than autocharger fot Magician is very cheap at the shop of T-mobile..
Hi, I have a TMobile MDA Pro and i have purchased an in car charger so that I can use it with TomTom satnav unit, slight problem, unit does not charge when in the car. Bizarre, as when I use the standard USB Charge & Sync cable with PC happily syncs and charges with no issues. Anyone any ideas, does there have to be a specific setting on the unit to enable it to accept charge via the cigarette socket in car?
Many thanks
I found that to charge the universal, pins 4 and 5 in the mini USB plug need to get joined together - by default pin 5 is not connected to anything (well, wasn't in the cable I had). I've made that modification, and am powering a couple of devices of of a 2 port hub in the car.
Cheers,
Steve
Hi, sounds like a problem I am having and meaning to ask about.
I've got a USB cigy lighter adapter and tried plugging in the sync lead to provide power when it's in the car. So if I have my Exec in standby the charge light will come on (I think it charges sitting on the today screen, but not to sure) but as soon as I fire up tomtom the charging light goes off....
Does this sound like your problem, or are you not charging at all?
I'm interested in finding out what I need to charge the Exec while it's running tomtom? Anyone have any ideas?
Cheers
Matt
I'm pretty certain that I didn't get a charge light at all with my cable until I modified it, then it works, as expected, including in TomTom.
To confirm what I've got is:
- A Ciggy to USB socket adapter
- A two port hub plugged into the adapter
- Modified cable into the hub (along with an unmodified cable connected to my BT-77 GPS unit).
Plugging the cable (prior to modification) directly into the adapter, rather than the hub, didn't work either. The Brodit all-in-one adapter/cable worked fine (and I still have it intact, but not in use), but if memory serve, pins 4 & 5 appear to be connected. I used a multi-meter to try and find out why that one worked, and my combination didn't.
All of this stuff is wired in behind the centre console, so I've not got any unsightly wires, or anything.
Cheers,
Steve.
I think you need a car charger that can output 1000mA to charge the Universal. Same requirement also for an AC charger. 1000mA is what's important. Cheers
Hi, We have had quite a few customers with this issue, we advised and they have opted for the brodit active mounts which have the inbuilt cig chargers and it has cured the problem, or for the neater solution they went for the Molex hardwired versions to stash the cables behind the dash area,
The codes are: 968649 for the cig charger version or 971649 for the Molex hardwired version, http://www.dsldevelopments.com/brodit/holder/T-Mobile+MDA Pro-Brodit-Holder.asp
Hope that helps, drop me a line if you need any advice,
Thanks again

Found 1A 5V car adapter
this is the only place I found off ebay that has a 1A car adapter
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CAR-CIGAR-CIG...4QQihZ006QQcategoryZ15329QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
It works fine on my MDA Pro, just need to plug it in while it is off for it to start charging.. if turned on, then pluged in, then it won't start charging.
I even have an 800mA adapter, but that doesn't help the MDA Pro, it needs more power!

Hi there Bryson
The items you quoted are actually the charger and the holder for the PDA. I also notice from the link you provided that there are 2 cig chargers (items codes 942625 and 942650). Can I know what are the differences between these 2 models and would either of this chargers charge the Universal while it is running a navigation software such as TomTom or Garmin Que?
Also, do you ship to Singapore?
Where do you guys buy the original car chargers? I tried looking online but so far, all that I have found are the generic car chargers. Even some shops that had pictures of the original car chargers only sold generic ones.
Any idea where I can get an original charger or if you have one for sale? Also what is the price that I can expect to pay for an original car charger?
I bought a proper O2 car charger from an O2 shop here in the UK for £15 at the weekend. Works well.
I might sell it if I find a solution involving a dual USB car adapter that works with the synch/charge cable and can simultaneously charge my TomTom...
Seems bizarre that you're in Singapore, near to HongKong where most of the eBay sellers of chargers and adapters are based, and yet you can't get what you want locally.

The one I bought is a genuine O2 one. It has a natty blue LED light in the shape of the O2 logo as well.

Whats the difference between a $35 O2 Exec Car charger and a $5 Charger available from eBay. Both of them work and charge the O2 XDA Exec. Does the O2 Exec charger charge the Universal faster than the other non-official charger?

I've got no experience of other chargers, so I can't answer your question. There are many people on this forum saying they've got problems with cheapo eBay chargers though.
My Exec charges more slowly from my PC's USB port than it does with the mains charger, so I guess it does drain a lot of current if the screen is on while charging. Cheap car chargers may not provide enough current.

Most ebay car chargers are not able to charge the phone when it is running navigational problems. it just does not charge it at all. the phone needs to be turned off before you can charge it.

Ah thanks. I might go for the O2 Car charger then. I think then the Car charer -> AC charger is much better. You know plugging in your AC charger into a Car charger outlet. Car charger adapters. Yes thats what they are called. I am sure thats a better choice and will work! ^^ Also a nice anti-shock car stand for the HTC Universal will be nice right? I saw some good ones on eBay. Show me something better if you see any? Also show me whats the best on eBay,... I am unable to decide... too much variety... I would usually go for the most expensive one but I like more features and durability ^^.. thanks vapor
I found a car adapter with dual USB outlets that the advertiser claims can supply 2 amps, which must be enough to power + charge the Exec and charge the TomTom. Am trying also to find a cable to charge TomTom from a USB port and then my life will be complete.
vapor, if I get these things and they work, I'm happy to post you my O2 car charger at cost. I'll let you know in the new year.

That'd be great buddy. Do let me know the costs yeah?
i was recieved a car charger from ANKER , but without usb cable , i am wondering what is the suitable usb cable to use with car charger for my nexus 5 ...?
and i am looking for Qi Charger for my nexus 5 , what is the best one available now ...?
what about portable charger ( Power bank ) ,,, i am looking for one also since my cellphone is losing the battery very quickly ...??
I bought this Qi charger, it's on sale for 25 bucks...works excellent and through all my cases, one of the cases that it works on is pretty thick, bought one of these and used some velcro and affixed the charger onto it, and it makes a nice little charging dock.
Here's the deal. I bought this http://www.ebay.com/itm/12131733658...eName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2648 last week and noticed it was taking forever to charge my phone using the provided wall and usb cables. I downloaded an app that told me how many amps my phone was charging at when plugged in and I got 500ma. I then plugged in an old garmin usb cable into my phone and it would charge at about 1500ma.
Now, the garmin wire is only a foot long so I cant use it in the car. I have a 3-in-1 car charging unit that is hard wired into the fusebox, for the gps, phone, etc.. when I plug the usb piece from ebay into the 3 piece with the usb cable provided it charges at about 300-400ma.. When it plug it directly into the car charging adapter in the car it charges about 500ma.
But when I plug the garmin cable into the 3-in-1 that charges at about 700 and directly into the car at about 11-1200...
So, my problem I believe is the cheap usb 'data' cable I bought from ebay.
Where can I buy a 6ft or so just straight usb cable that will charge at least at 1200ma for the Note 2??
I know this has been brought up 100 times but I havent really found a good answer yet.
I also tried cutting the green and white wires and even shorting the data pins with tin foil to no avail.
Please someone advise thanks!
