Hello fellow T-mobile Dash users running WM6 beta...
As you all know, there is a bug (if that's indeed what it is) in the "smart dialing" capability that inserts "A,B,C" for numeral 2, "D,E,F" for numeral 3, and so on. Numeral 1 is a metacharacter (i.e. typing 1 repeatedly will just select all of your contacts).
I was looking in the registry and found a few keys that look interesting.
They are:
1) HKLM/Security/Phone/PhoneKeyMatch
2) HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Shell/PhoneKeyMatch
There could be others, possibly relating to the keyboard driver being used, or the keyboard layout itself.
it does look interesting....i hope someone is able to do something with it...
I wish someone would be able to look into this and let us know how to fix this issue. thx
i don't think its a big deal. just hold the down key.
i'm sure it will be fixed in the final release. you can't wait a few weeks?
SOLUTION
Here's the fix to the problem... attached to this post (contained inside a zip file)
The registry settings were exported using Resco Registry. You should have that installed to import the settings back to your APP UNLOCKED phone.
I'm pretty sure this problem will be fixed in the final version, as it was a terribly simple solution. Just a few key mappings that needed to be changed.
If you don't have Resco Registry on the smartphone, you can edit the registry with whatever editor you have, and just open up the .reg file in notepad, and make the entries match.
Note that the # key also acts as the wildcard key, so if you type in the first couple of the letters of the first name and then # and then the first couple of the last name, like JO#SMI, it will match John Smith as well. Also, if you are trying to search for something like Ralph using Ra, it will bring up all of the R's, since # also acts as the wildcard character.
Thanks a bunch. Worked like a charm.
Don't forget to reset your phone after you change the keys.

Sorry, forgot to mention that part Kind of an important step.
Works like a charm, thanks!
Excellent, Merwin. Well done.
Agh, you beat me to it, I wanted to post the answer first!
Well good job! Not sure if this has been covered yet but you can get rid of the BETA text on the Today Screen by modifying the following registry key"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\DeviceBeta]
"Today"="Beta"

Yeah, I did that one a while ago... I routinely go through the entire registry when i get a new firmware
Hey - great post! Would you happen to know how to add an additional keyboard layout to WM?
I have not done it my self but it looks like you can easily add a new keymap. Look at the file \windows\eT9.Excalibur.0409.kmap.txt. You can't replace that file but you can copy it and save it with a new name. Then go into the registry and find references to that file then change them to match the new file name.
Be prepared to hard reset your device if you screw up, you may loose functionality of your keyboard.
Thanks so much! Made life much easier!

I've tried that with no luck. Looks like the keyboard driver needs to support additional languages...

Steve

Merwin: Thanks a lot for the fix!
Mario: I'd recommend using a free desktop app called Mobile Registry Editor: http://www.breaksoft.com/Blog/Utilities/2005/1/Mobile_Registry_Editor.aspx
This lets you edit your phone's registry using your desktop PC. Replace each of those keys (23, 2A, 31, 32, 33 .. 39) in HKLM\Security\Phone\PhoneKeyMatch\KeyboardMappings with the values found in the .reg file Merwin provided.

Same here. Thanks
Does anyone else thing the matching is slower than in WM5?
Hi,
I'm new to the forum and came here looking for a fix to rotate my WMP screen. I sometimes wonder if I should have ever upgraded to WM6. I haven't uploaded a registry editor or anything in fear of totaly destroying my phone. I know there are alot of little things that can be changed through the editor like reassigning keys and whatnot. I was just looking for a place to begin and maybe someone patient enough to help me through things. Thanks for reading.
You can try the last post here. I am not sure whether it works or not.
Don't I need to set up the registry editor to use that solution?
Yes......even if someone here wrote you a .reg file that you could just open from the phone to add the registry entry for you, you still need a registry program installed on the phone. Are you not wanting to have the program on your phone, not wanting to make the registry change yourself, or not willing to change the registry at all?
Hi all,
did somebody work out good filters for Advanced Registry Tracer or similar Application to concentrate on the changes that do matter.
I got the problem, that a lot of registry entries are changed without any addiction to the install that was made, so i get a bit of lost in many changes that might not correspond to my problem to find the registry keys that really are done or needed to integrate microsofts voice command in my ROM.
Any input would be really apprecciated!
bestr regards
peet
Hey guys,
Just thought you might want to know incase it is annoying anyone else.
To change the softkey from reply all to reply you need to do the following registry edits.
From the link:
If you want to fix it you need to turn outlook enhancement off.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\BootLauncher\Servic es\OutlookEnhancement]
"Module"=""
then softreset
to turn it on
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\BootLauncher\Servic es\OutlookEnhancement]
"Module"="\\windows\\OutlookEnhancement.dll"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Services\OutlookEnhancement]
Remove the name under "dll"
then softreset
Doing the first part only didnt work on my TP2, but after i removed the one in HKLM as well it worked
Cheers
WOW thank you! thats exactly what i was searching for!
Does this fix change anything else than the softkey?
Is there a way to change the "delete" key? When I choose an account, then hit Inbox to see the emails, I sometimes hit delete (when the phone is slower, sometimes you think that you didn't press on Inbox and when you press again, you hit delete).
Have deleted a few mails this way, so changing it into anything else (e.g. reply to all or something) would be nice!
Thanks , this was bugging me for a while

I would also like to know the answer to that. Removing an entire "Outlook Enhancement" DLL sounds like it might have side effects!
Those registry entries don't seem to exist in the 6.5 official ROM. Don't seem to be any for OutlookEnhancement. Any ideas?

Same question here. No trace of "OutlookEnhancement" in the registry.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you so much for this. I had the same issue with just doing step #1 with no results. I should have known to search for other entries with that dll. Thanks!!!!!
I have WM6.5 and found both entries in the registry editor..... but that doesn't mean "Reply to all" was replaced with "Reply" when both items were cleared! I followed the steps to the letter, both Module in HKCU and Dll in HKLM were blanked, soft reset after each one, and when clicking on an email, the left softkey still reads "Reply to all"
I'm not the type that needs to "Reply to all" everytime I send an email - especially when "all" includes me again in the TO: field!!!
Possibly a bit late but I removed the 'reply to all' option by editing the registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings\ShowReplyAllEmailSK1 and setting the value to 0.
Worked for me
On my TP2 from t-mobile the edits in the registry worked great. Had to delete both files though for it to work. I wish I tried the method stated above first though, seems easier to reverse.

AHHH!!! There you go, thank you for the help, this works perfect after the soft reset! MUCH appreciated!
Changing softkey from reply all to reply in touchpro2 - found the registry entry!
OK, I JUST found this registry entry for the HTC Touch Pro 2. Mine is a US Cellular handset running WM 6.5. I, also, could not locate the OutlookEnhancement referred to in previous posts.
I found and changed the following registry entry, and it seems to have worked. Do this at your own risk, but if you are like me, and not finding answers anywhere else, it's worth a shot. You can always reverse it.
Find the following registry entry:
\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings
Locate the following value:
ShowReplyAllEmailSK1
Change the value from "1" to "0" - without quotes, obviously.
Hope this works for you as it has for me!
Whoops! I'm an idiot! Didn't see that page 2 of this thread already had the answer I found! Oh well, hopefully it will increase visibility in the search engines for others trying to find the answer!

Here you go
Hi,
I'm at a loss, I've tried to be clever and incorporate all the reg tweaks I use on my Leo into 1 cab using WinCE Cab Manager so that I don't have to installed a bunch of them every time I hard reset. However, once I've installed the cab i made the camera stops working and stuff starts going crazy e.g. manila just restarting for no reason, missing exe's etc.
I've checked and doubled checked the reg entries and everything is fine.
Anyone got any advice?
Thanks!

Attached is a reg file containing the tweaks I've put in. Oddly enough, just done another hard reset and it was going fine, tweaked registry entries manually and now camera comes up with unable to initialize error again. Grrrr!
Any help is much appreciated!
I'm afraid to run it on my phone
But in your position I would remove all registry keys related to HTC\Camera and then manually add them step by step and check camera functionality after each changed registry key to see which one causes the issues.
It's not what you want to hear maybe, but you could just put all your reg tweaks in an .xml (get rgu2xml). Then just run it during customization. XML's are usually faster than cabs, too.

That's true. Thanks!
I'm on my third hard reset today and I've not done any reg tweaks so far and my taskbar has just gone. Grrrrr.
