Question Bad UI Performance - OnePlus 9 Pro

Lost track on how many times I reset my phone. UI Performance is a disappointment. Apps like YouTube and Google maps are forced to 60hz, and message bubble animations in Google message are choppy, but it was like that with my pixel 5. I tried rooting it to put lineage os on, but I always have problems. What bothers me is a $1k high performance phone running crappy software that runs slow. There a "AutoHZ" app that you can force refresh rate, but it needs a computer for special permissions, and cmd command's that sont exist. Is there anyway I can fix this without having to root?

Another android phone rooted could possibly run the computer commands with adb and fastboot magisk module. You could maybe get a cheap used Thinkpad off eBay,etc.

Totally happy with my OnePlus 9 Pro 5G running OxygenOS 11, custom bootanimation and systemwide custom font, live streaming tv and movies....this why I left Samsung phones because of bootloader totally locked down.

I'd go back to 11 if I could. Think 12 is worse

worth a buy?

thinking of buying the realme x but im not fond of the development history of realme devices they barely get any roms. maybe since this is snapdragon and not mediatek, things will be different. what do you all think?
I've had for about 2 weeks, and I am not regretting it.
My last phone was the 1+3 and I've had it since launch, the realme X is about the same performance with double the battery life and a good camera and great big screen for an affordable price.
it's worth a buy.
realme is something like OnePlus.
it's a subband of OPPO , not so independent like OnePlus.
In fact I'm not satisfied with the colorOS , too much change to Android pie .
I'm also 2w in and I love it. Coming from Samsung s8+ and it sure is much better in every way. In my opinion ofc ?

is it drag to move from stock android (oxygen os) to colour os??
Thinking of buying it too, good to see some positive initial impressions here but I'm still worried about the development. Not very fond of color os on previous Realme phones I've used...

I miss skydragon OS on my 1+3, but nova launcher and google apps quench my thirst for now.
I also ordered the phone last night(and ofc the White one other wise whats the reason of buying it.
And regarding Development I hope this atleast gets Development as R3pro, which is quite decent.
Tho I talked with one of the Dev, and he be getting a Realme X, so ???.
I have used this for three month and no problems. So ye, worth i guess
Using it for well over a month now, changed the look of it (copied Dave2d's OnePlus 7 Pro setup) using Nova Launcher (Chinese rom so had to use adb to change default launcher) and third party icons, looks and feels way better than stock ColorOS, other than that ColorOS isn't too bad in terms of aesthetics, as far as the hardware goes got no complains whatsoever, Gcam works fine so camera is top notch, the screen is great, charging is great (also battery performance), it's totally bang for buck imo, no regrets.

Hi,
You have managed to change the standard launcher? You may provide some informaiton on how you have done it? I tried the standard methods but everything was grayed out or not even there. Also tried rooting the device but some security software safed me from this intention! Even my attempt from pc.
For other people: color OS is probably a good choice if you like a apple like OS. Except some restriction in customisation everything is fine. (It´s running now a week without any bug or problem) Play store is not preinstalled but with a quick search and apk installation you can download every app from play store except google now launcher it´s not supported on the device...
Actually I was planning to buy the redmi K20 pro, but after looking at the price of it changed my mind and ordered the Realme X.
As far now this is the best smartphone under 20k. There are no much difference between the Redmi K20 and Realme X.

I installed Nova launcher, then disabled the default launcher using adb commands, forcing the phone to use Nova as it's default (yes you don't have the option do it in settings, apparently Chinese ROMs don't allow changing launcher for safety(?) reasons) . But keep in mind that after using this method to change the launcher, the swipe gestures from both sides won't work, you won't be able to go to home using swipe up, so I had to move to swipe-up gestures, which is the swipe alternative of having virtual keys, you can use virtual keys as well. other than this everthing works perfectly.
I used this thread to disable the default launcher: Click here
** Make sure you have a launcher installed before disabling the default launcher, if you mess up you can always reset and start again, try not to disable things you aren't sure of as it can mess up the phone (learned from experience) **
I bought it for my sister in law before i sent it to nigeria. I can attest to the quality of the phone. the only thing that may piss u off if u are coming from stock android is that color os has so many animations (there are so many that there is a setting not in dev settings, where u can reduce animations. to me this reduction does nothing) that slow down how the phone seems to operate. Trust me its a fast phone but with all the animations it looks slow. Also if u buy the china version u would have to deal with some chinese text but u can uninstall a lot of everything that u dont want and install google play from apkpure and just move on with life. It was surprisingly a lot easier and palatable to deal with as a chinese rom than a Redmi Note 7 chinese version i had bought. The Redmi didnt play well with sideloading google services so i had to unlock the bootloader and load an Xiaomi.eu rom while the Realme is so accepting of a sideload that it looks native.

Any major flaws/issues with Android 11/One UI 3.0/3.1 ?

Hi, I just got a Note 10+ and I haven't transferred over to it yet. I was playing around with it and before I knew it, the Android 11 update was pushed to it and as y'all know it forces it's way in even after you disable it. So far with minimal apps and no sim card, the phone seems fine. There are some missing edge panels I can't access anymore in the galazy store or google play for that matter.
That being said, are people here generally happy about Android 11? What are some well knwon issues?
I have been skeptical about Samsung phones since my Note 8 to Note 9. As they get updates, the phones start running more clunky. Almost like they purposefully want you to upgrade.
Android 11 (one UI 3.1) is all I know on this phone. I came from the Note 4 and S5. Just got my Note 10 as well with Android 9 and two days later did a system update to Android 11. For me, it was about 10 updates in a row and 2 or 3 of them were roughly 2GB. I should have done factory reset before doing the updates, but then again, I didn't have the phone that long before doing it. I wish there was a setting for the transparency on the notification pull down, apps drawer, recent apps, etc but's faily tastefully done. They give the option to change the tranpsarncy on the lock screen but not the main screen which is backwards. I don't like the new fat vertical volume sliders. They look nice but harder to use because your finger's in the way. LOL. The horizontal ones were wider than these are tall. Some say Android 11 is slower and harder on the battery. The battery life isn't as good as I hoped.
I don't have issues with Edge Screens missing in the Galaxy Store in Android 11. Never used Google Play for edge screens. but then again, I never used Edge Screens before, so I wouldn't know what was missing.
One thing I noticed right off the bat is the brightness of the Note10 isn't as bright when the brightness slider is set to the same position as my ancient S5. I put the display setting on Vivid and the white balance/gamma is too red. I put the Cool/Warm slider all the way to Cool and it's still a tad Red.

THere was this edge screen app called Edgeboard that used to be available and was available on my Note 9. It's no longer available
So battery life is shorter and Note 10+ is slower on Android 11. FFS
I don't see Edgeboard in the Galaxy Store. Just repeating what little I read about Android 11 and battery life and performance. Maybe others can chime in. I'm sure it's mentioned in this forum in detail.

That was a stock one I think... be careful what you allow to update or flash.
If you have a fast, stable platform that is fulfilling its mission, leave it be.

You need to block the carrier update apk. Conversely if it downloads clearing the system cache (or maybe a factory reset) should clear it if it hasn't flashed yet. Last ditch effort and not a good long term solution.
If you avoid/ turn off wifi to stop the update that won't work forever because the update apk can turn on wifi and any other apks it needs as well as certain towers (AT&T probably other carriers too) are "update" towers that will download the update fast.
I use a package disabler to keep my updater neutered. https://www.packagedisabler.com/
An ADB edit is also another way to get it done on a unrooted stock phone.
Carriers like AT&T can block updates on their end if you pester them enough
Get it done asap whichever solution you choose.

Moto G8/G Fast bugs on Android 11

Hi people, I star this thread to know if some of you have experienced bugs after updating to Android 11. In my case, sometimes my phone screen doesn't turn off after the timeout I've configured. Have anyone experienced te same?
Yeah, android 11 was delivered with some noticeable bugs
This are mine:
Most of the times when going to landscape mode (By either playing a video or a game)
The gesture pill stays present all the time (when obviously using Navigation by gestures)
Also when in landscape mode if you swipe down to show the status bar too many times, the bar gets stuck to the top so you have to get out of landscape mode and put it back so it fixes
The speaker sometimes just starts sounding muffled (But i think its my phone, with a restart it works again)
Some apps that didn't crash on Android 10, now crash on Android 11
Even if they were updated
(I use Hitfit pro and it didn't crash on Android 10)
This phone is fairly new and its funny to see the software seems kinda rushed
Sorry to detract a bit, but are there any challenges to rooting android 11 on this device or is it the same as with Android 10?

Not many actually, once you manage to install Twrp, magisk or another rooting app (that uses adb or twrp) you use should be able to flash without a problem.
A backup is always recommended tho!

Yes, CUSTOMIZED EEA 62.1.A.0.533 (Android 12) was released ( https://xpericheck.com/XQ-BT52 ) 4 days ago, but according to the phone update check and Xperia Companion, no software update is available. Phone is using stock firmware, WiFi/4G is available and I have made several restarts. However when CUSTOMIZED EEA 62.0.A.9.11 (Android 11 update) was released month ago, I got it right away, at the same release day.
Based Reddit, a lot users are facing same problem. Some say that software repair using the Xperia Companion pushes update to phone. But I don't want to and I don't have time to reset my phone and set up everything, including every app settings from scratch.

it is folklore, no such need at all.
I have received the update (62.1.A.0.533) this morning.
Installation took around 45 minutes.
Haven't had any technical issues per se so far, but am still struggling with the look and feel of Android 12.
i have been using the phone for almost a week now after the new update (62.1.A.0.533), i haven't done any factory resets, here is what i noticed:
1. Battery is draining a lot faster than Android 11
2. UI is a bit bulky, especially the toggle buttons. Definitely preferred Android 11
3. Screen Mirroring is not working for me. WFD service keeps crashing (that's a major issue because i mirror all my videos)
4. I had previously mapped the power button (click twice) to GCAM. Now it's not working. Only works with the stock Camera
Overall, a negative experience. I would not recommend the update.
If anyone else is facing issues please let me know

I got the update notification yesterday and installed last night. So far I'm not having any technical or performance issues. All seems to be working. Still, I find the new UI a big step backwards in comparison to Android 11. Everything is so much bigger (menus, quick settings) using lots of dead space.
There aren't separate toggles for Wi-Fi and Mobile Data internet. You can't turn on or off with one tap. You have to open a submenu now...
The quick settings toggles are way bigger. You get only 4 in two lines when sliding down (or 8 if you slide with two fingers or twice). Which means that you will be needing an extra step for some actions.
I'm missing the functionality where on Android 11 I could use Google pay right away when holding the power button. Now there is a toggle in the quick settings instead (again extra step to use). Instead there is just a restart, shutdown and emergency menu if you hold the power button.
I don't get the new features of android 12 or it just doesn't seem to make a difference for my uses. The new bigger quick settings are annoying for me and if I had known before, I wouldn't have updated. If there was an easy way to roll back to 11 I would happily do it. But I guess I can't do that without flashing an older firmware on the phone. Maybe a future update would allow to make the quick menus a bit smaller?

I've read somewhere that after factory reset the separate toggles for wifi and mobile data internet would show up.
::edit::
Sony's Android 12 update has separate toggles for Wi-Fi and Data, but only if you factory reset

another way:
[....] if you want to get back a dedicated button to toggle your Wi-Fi, Mishaal Rahman shared a command on Twitter that you can execute via adb to get it back.
adb shell settings put secure sysui_qs_tiles "$(settings get secure sysui_qs_tiles),wifi"
Right this morning I got the message of a System Update from Sony (I live in Italy).
I think I'll wait some days before update, would be like to read more feedbacks on how the device behaves under Android 12, in particular concerning the battery draining, I quite happy with my Xperia 10 III that overnight (9pm to 8am) drains just a ridiculous 3%.

1) Recheck again app -s permissions, disable or uninstall unwanted ones, disable location wifi/bluetooth scan and wait for few days until the battery is calibrated and user habits/trends are known for the operating system.
Also You may try enable system cached apps under developer options -

You must agree this is a rather ingenious way of getting people to update their systems regularly. You're not told beforehand what the update changes, and only afterwards do you notice that the update was a downgrade in every single aspect. You want to swear that you'll never install a system update ever again, yet you know that you will have to do just that in the hopes that eventually some update will fix what the previous ones broke.
I must admit as much I agree that a proper changelog should be displayed before any update, I do like that android 12 update. Getting older (ok, I'm not that old) I'm pretty happy with the bigger/new layout

On the stock Android 11 you can make the UI big from Settings > Display > Display size. This is in addition to and separate from Settings > Display > Font size. So I still think the forced size in Android 12 was not necessary...
I updated my device on Saturday, everything went OK. I'm rather satisfied with the new UI, display size and font size can be adjusted as in Android 11, some aspects are nice, some others less, on the other hand it's impossible to create a UI that is good for everybody. There are a lot of launchers and ways to customize the appearance of a smartphone, so this is not a problem in my view. Apart from the graphical aspect, Android 12 brings new interesting features and I think this is more important.
I appreciate that Sony kept the media volume steps equal to 30, which is finer enough for listening music. At the moment, the power usage seems to be as before, my device drained only 3% overnight (9pm to 8am) as with android 11, and that's great.
The smartphone seems responsive and fluid, I didn't explored all the functionalities yet, but I would say that this update is OK.
Is it just me or do apps 'reload' more often after the update? I feel like caching of background apps is worse but I'm not sure.
Other than that and the combined internet toggle, this update is alright.
The overall app managing should be more optimized in Android 12, however you could try the above mentioned option in the Developer settings (suspend execution of cached app).
There are just a couple of commands to be sent via ADB the to restore separate wifi/mobile toggles, I'm waiting to see how is to deal with the combined internet one.

Noticed this too. For example, if I use "Simple Gallery Pro" from F-Droid to browse through some videos and I open a video with Kodi, then after I'm done watching the video and return to the Simple Gallery app, it will often reload, forcing me to navigate the folder structure once again.
I didn't have this issue with Android 11 - returning to the gallery app would bring me back to where I left when Kodi was launched. I'll try changing that setting mentioned above by @code010101 to see if it helps.

OxygenOS 12 Open Beta 2: Huge Improvements!

My OnePlus 7T Global HD1903 was on stock OOS Stable for almost 3 years now.
I just decided to update to OOS12 Beta 2 (Indian) yesterday and overall, I like it!
Official update guide here: OxygenOS 12 Open Beta 2 for the OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7T Pro
Improvements:
1. Stock launcher: now has Google Feeds built-in.
2. Stock launcher: can now lock home screen icon arrangements. This is especially a big deal for me because I always mis-swipe icons and accidentally rearrange them.
3. Game mode: swipe notification banner is now easier to use. You can easily adjust brightness now, which is what I always use when gaming.
4. WiFi and Bluetooth connects faster.
5. Mobile data: signal is more stable. This surprised me a lot because this is an Indian ROM flashed on a Global device. I live in the Philippines, so it may vary from country to country.
6. Fast switching between mobile data and wifi, unlike on OOS11 where there's around 3 seconds of delay.
7. More stable fingerprint scanning (FOD) so it feels faster too, unlike on OOS11 when there are instances that I have to try 3x before my fingerprint gets recognized.
8. Larger PIN input when restarting device and FOD is disabled.
9. Lowest brightness is now even lower. Very good when you use your phone in pitch black environments.
What's missing, and what can be improved:
1. AOD: still the same old crappy Sometimes On Display. My Oppo Reno has a proper AOD, which I thought would be implemented in this update.
2. Recents: app settings cannot be launched directly anymore.
3. Notification banners: button texts are buggy/cut (like Reply or Like). Although this is an Android 12 issue, OnePlus could have fixed it.
4. Stock launcher: home screen icons cannot be set individually. (I bought icon packs for this feature)
5. Stock launcher: home screen icons cannot be renamed anymore. (You can remove app names completely)
6. Dolby Atmos is now disabled when using built-in speakers. Ironically, I only enable them when using the built-in speakers to make sound louder.
7. VoLTE and VoWiFI
Bugs and Nitpicks (but not dealbreakers):
1. Very long boot time. Logo always stuck for 40 seconds before boot animation shows up.
2. Boot animation stutters (low FPS).
3. On standard home screen mode (drawer disabled), SIM Toolkit apps always show up on the home screen after every reboot, even if you put them in a folder.
4. Some apps think that the device/sim is Indian, so there are notifications telling you to enable Roaming. Just disable these notifications once, then they'll stop showing up.
5. Lock screen colors are still oversaturated when FOD is enabled (same with OOS10 and OOS11). This is why I just use a black wallpaper for lockscreen.
6. Stock launcher icon names can now only be removed completely (no app names on drawer too), unlike before where it only doesn't show on the home screen.
I finaly update myself... But I am little disappinted.
first of all, AOD on OOS 11 (oob5) worked perfectly... it doesn't work here... it just is.
I have a big lag when I want to use gestures, especially when I want to leave the gallery in the home screen... everything seems to be slower.
Third, the phone and phonebook app is now much worse... it's much slower to find a name in the phone book.
Fourth, the theme substratum does not work, pureblack for example, so the notification shade is not black as I would like it to be... and all the colors seem washed out to me.
Five, no advinced power menu any more... And no optio for clear cache in recovery
I use Nova and I like it....
High performance mod... is for me must be on

Thanks for sharing your experience!
Although mine is quite the opposite (everything is more responsive / no lag).
My device isn't rooted though, and I upgraded from stable rom. So ymmv.

When I turn off substratum... its now faster and feel like before... But I prefere black in dark mode and not gray...
Also I will disable... Theme Store and Work Life Balance (I realy do not need) and Scout... What is that? Do you use it? Sports (how to acces that app) ?
And I am realy frustrated with new phonebook/call app
EDIT: I still have this bug... with gallery app and only Gallery app for now...
When I swap from botom to top... to go to home screen... bacj is just fine... but going straith to home not working in gallery app
Do you know what is Onet app?
Is it India specific? Like Idwntificarion of Unknow Number (doea it work in eu) ?
Also is there any easy way like iit was on 11 to check/change battery optimisation for specific app... or I need to go from settings and to look for app in the hole list?

I also use swipe navigation but don't have that issue on the Gallery app. I can smoothly transition from Gallery to Home Screen. I uploaded a video: CLICK HERE
Regarding apps you don't need, there is an option to disable them in the app settings.
On the end... I find that my bigrst problem is notificstion lock screen. When I get notificstion I have it for first time, but if I unlock and relock without open notificstin at all... it disappears from lock screen.
Does anyone know how to fix that behavior... Notification not show on LockScreen?
And AOD, not working... All time.... on OB5 ti was working all time if you whant that. Here it just disappear if you do not touch or move phone. I disklike that behavior.
Also I find out that Tasker, or any other app on 12 can not disable network status (2G/3G/4G) even with root.

In the end, this is a HUGE step backwards for me... and many OnePlus fans who wanted something more and stuck to the Never Settle slogan.
Oppo Coloros is not usable with many applications and causes problems with an even larger number. Maybe at first glance it looks like it's moving smoothly and quickly, but it's just an illusion.
Tasker is just one of those applications and is considered one of the most powerful Android tools, but it is completely unusable even with Root on this system. Even the most ordinary things, which are useful to me, as it is. turning on screen rotation and screen time out for certen apps do not work. Let's not talk about some more complex actions such as norification and starting AOD when there is an unread notification.
AOD itself is very unreliable, I installed 3 different "updates" of the AOD application itself to get it to work at all.
The notification on the lockscreen is just a "masterpiece" it only works once when you receive the notification, and whether you read it or not, it will never appear on the lockscreen again, no matter how many times you unlock or lock your screen.
As a root user of a phone that supports 90Hz, I used to be able to always and in all circumstances use that option, now the screen is almost always at 60Hz no matter what you set and there is no longer a possibility to "force" the phone to always use 90Hz even with an ADB command... All this did not increase the battery life in the least... it even decreased it because the screen is no longer black (which I could achieve on OOS 11 using Subststratum pure black tmeme) but mostly gray.
I still don't have time to dedicate a whole day to wiping the data and going back to the good old OOS... but if you don't want to just have the number 12 in the phone info... and if you use the phone for anything more than texting and answering on calls, it's better to redistribute with old security patches than to get frustrated with Color OS.
Even the most common application, phone book and phone dealer, is a step backwards for me, although I could get used to it if at least some of the basic things that I am used to as a user would work.
Bluetooth, WiFi... Mobile Data... Signal strength, I really have no complaints, it all works great. Preinstalled applications work well and it's a matter of habit and personal taste whether you like the design or not.
But if you use Tasker, Huawei watch, or are a root user who is a bit more demanding... know that I Color OS is very restrictive and that 99% of things will not work as they did on OOS... Especially if you come with OOS Beta 4 or 5 which had AOD working and if you are used to it, I would not recommend you to waste your time and switch to Color OS.
The number 12 is not worth your time, annoyance and searching for a solution for what was working beautifully and smoothly, just because it is a number higher than 11.
On the end choices is yours... Just like it was mine when I done misktake and update.

Have you tried any custom ROMs such as Pixel Experience? What are your thoughts on them if you have. I grew tired of waiting for OnePlus to release a stable 12 and installed Pixel Experience. I am mostly satisfied with it, although battery drain is more pronounced.

Your #1 mistake was to dirty flash a beta software into an older android version.
Even on custom roms, that's a very bad idea.

Actualy, that doesn't change anything... It's Color OS... and all working just it work on cleen install. So I didn't make any mistake there, except the fact that Color OS is not for me or anyone who like freedom of OOS... When I decide to be restricted like I am on ColotOS, I will buy iphone.
So, does your clean installation act differently... lock screen notificstion, AOD, can Tasker change you system settings (turn on and off AOD if you have any new notification, for example), can you force 90Hz in all apps?
Because thats are problems... I don't have any fingerprint or any other system lroblem except it's inconsistent and undefined... it's doesn't have all android 12 theming and look but it's not OOS costumization.
Anyone know of a fix for no signal? It asks for Oroaming funds, but I have an unlocked One Plus 7 Pro converted to the Global Beta 2.
My sim card is Tmobile.
