Storage only showing as 16GB - Sony Xperia XA2 Questions & Answers

Girlfriends XA2 started complaining about low storage fairly soon after she got the phone, like maybe 3 months, we knew she had not filled it up that much so started trying the usual, clearing Cache and looking to see what was using all the storage, and noticed most apps including storage settings itself is reporting the phone to only have 16GB internal storage
After hours of failed attempts we're left with factory resetting the phone to see if that sorts it, but she doesn't really want to have to set it all back up again etc, anyone know any other ways we might be able to regain the lost 16GB storage back?
Thanks

Hi
This means that your filesystem is corrupted, ergo the only thing you can do is "software repair" via PC. Sadly this will erase all your data, so you have to do a backup first. Resetting the phone via settings inside the phone itself won't work. I'm sorry :highfive:

What?

the size of internal storage reported by xperia companion and also totalcommander is 19.6 Gb , not 32Gb or similar

So just do the same, open PC companion into your windows/Mac and perform a software repair after backing up your phone.
It will solve all :highfive:

I also have 19.6gb of storage, I always assumed that the rest was used by the system, but if someone confirm that with Xperia companion I will have more storage space I do it right now, I am not even interested in making a backup. Can anyone with xa2 of 32gb confirm if it really has more than 19.6gb of storage?

So definitely I am having a problem with the storage, if I connect the phone to the PC also marks me 19.5gb of storage. Today I try the repair by Xperia companion and then I tell you.

the same mee to,i have performed a software repair and is the same, 19.6 Gb!
I passed the phone to my wife and I bought a Samsung
Ciao

Yeah It shows like I have 13 gb of system used, but I don't think it's more than the others (a friend that has Galaxy S9 told me he has like 18 gb)

I repaired it with Xperia companion and there were no changes (Still 19,56GB of storage) I suppose it will have to do with the phone version. Mine is a H3123 made in China.

Just seen this after making my own post about 'Storage at 95%',
Currently backing up and will run the software repair, I have H4113
Will see what happens and let you know....

[Q] How do I Restore Stock Firmware?

Hi I apologise for asking this, I know the answer will be out there somewhere, but I want to restore my phone to how it was when I first bought it.
I'm on a UK o2 locked phone and I've rooted it and removed some of the stock apps. Is it possible to download and restore the original rom since the boot loader is locked and if so how?
Thanks

Thanks, I did look at that thread but I wasn't sure if that was what I needed. Would I be ok with any of the R800i firmwares, and does it matter that my boot loader is locked?
How did you flash it to anything else if your bootloader is locked?

I haven't flashed anything else, just rooted and removed some of the stock apps. So basically I want to do a factory reset but get everything I removed back.
Flashtool allows you to flash signed roms (i.e. sony official updates only) to a locked bootloader.
Otherwise, what Logseman doesn't touch on is a website called www.wotanserver.com
You sign up for a free account, download the client software and the usb drivers, boot your phone into repair mode (hold down the back button when plugging in the usb cable) and it allows you to flash any stock firmware.

One more thing, could I flash the R800i 4.0.2.A.62 version FTF firmware from the Super Compilation thread, or is there a particular o2 branded firmware I can download?

can't write to external SD

I've searched but I might have missed it I am having problems writing to my external SD. I'm rooted, and I've formatted it. It's the same card I was using in my note 2 without problems. I did find the fixes for the note 3 and tried those but still having problems. Any other suggestions?

Thats where your issue came from..
Exposed is causing a issue with secure storage.
ive always had to wipe and re flash to resolve after this happens and it made exposed framework unstable and was unable to update it or Uninstall it..
Try this zip and see if it works to resolve..
http://www.mediafire.com/view/gda67ca7wf4orta
Just flash via recovery and reboot..
Theres also a wanam fix for secure storage module that i was made aware of today also.. look for it in downloads and try it also.. says it fixs shealth and secure storage.. good luck
I was having problems before I installed xposed. I did it in an effort to fix it.

why do you only post this changelog?
are you testing it before you open a post to share it ?
this new base will change the internal storage and external storage to make app2sd possible.
its ok . as long as everything is normal..
but that can cause so many bad things..!!
for example: accidently the phone fall down an the floor.
and the external storage will slip a bit.
what will happen?
well, the system can not read anymore. because external is internal storage !
that will cause the phone to freeze (in the best case)
and there are many more things that can go wrong...
p.s : worthless , ?!? maybe. but thats my own opinion

Unfortunately, the phone barely has free space, the strangest thing is that the available space even after deleting all the deletable apps, deleting cache, and running the DELETE DUMPSTATE/LOGCAT thing, is a bit less of 1 GB. Here I show some screenshots of how the space has been used, note that currently there are only 23,3 MB of free space
I even tried a hard reset, thinking that it would delete some unwanted and hidden files, but it didn't help.
Is there any problem with this phone? or does it really have so little available internal space? I know that this phone has an SD card inserted, but this little space available doesn't even allow to update the apps.
Thanks

Yes, this phone has very little space available, the OS takes more than half of those 8 GB this phone claims to have.
You can set up the SD as adoptable storage via rooting (with an app called Rooting Essentials) and it does help a little bit, but don't expect it to help you install too many apps because not all apps can be moved to adoptable storage.

I spent more than 2 days to root this phone (g532F nothing different), well I would say it is almost impossible. Since now I've learned that latest official OS can't be rooted, it requires samsung tools pro at least V27.4 which is impossible to find the functional one (you know what I mean).. I tried everything else it either get in bootloop or freeze anyway. Well I used couple of android devices with root but this one made me really pissed off.
All we need to do is rooting the device and making available adoptable storage, that's all. But it is not that easy.. For this phone really I would say go to hell samsung..

It is recommended though to do a factory reset, as with every big update some things may be left over or broken, even when they try their best to make all your apps and data working from Android Pie.
If anyone factory resets kindly post an update here.
