Does Xiaomi provide updates for their Android One phones with little delay? - Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite Questions & Answers

I've received my A2 Lite last week, it's a great phone overall.
Has Xiaomi been fast with the updates for their Mi A1 and A2/Lite phones?
Can I expect Security patches in a timely manner?
This is my first ever Mi phone, after being a Motorola user since 2013.

I don't know for A1 and A2, but A2 lite receive the security update each month, in the last 10 days.

Thanks. It looks like the security patches come out at every 15th or 16th day of every month.
I asked because Motorola takes several months just to release a single patch. Nice to see this is not the case with Xiaomi.

Hi!
Question: Xiaomi guarantees updates for up to two years for Android versions?
Motorola, for example, confirms 2 system updates and at least 6 months of security updates for the Moto X4, which is also part of Android One.
I'm asking because I want to buy a device with Android One like Mi A2 Lite.
Pixel is very expensive to bring to my country and I would Android as pure as possible. In other hand, Moto X4 have little problems like camera focus and internal memory.

Almost everywhere I read about A2/Lite, they write that 2 years guaranteed OS updates + 3 years security updates, but does xiaomi conform to this? Are there any guidelines made by google that must be followed? (idk, for example all android one phones must receive security patch until end of given month, etc, etc..) Or are those numbers just assumption..

I saw 18 months update

AFAIK all android one phones are handled by Google so 2 years software updates an 2 or 3 years security updates

So if I understood, Mi A2 Lite will receive Android updates up to 2020 - Android 11 "R" - and security patches up to 2022 more or less?
Thanks in advance!

You should get android p and android q yes

Just got the Sept Security update this morning, 360.2MB in size so make sure you're on WiFi.

I wouldn't be so harsh on Huawei. They did provide a means to unlock your device. Unfortunately there isn't much in the way of after-market development at the moment. I'd be willing to give it a try but don't really know where to start, however the investigation continues...
<rant>As a side-note, Oppo takes the award for the worst company. As a R7s owner I was surprised at the length they went to stop people developing for this device, and they didn't provide any updates either. If you want to advise anyone which company to avoid, I think Oppo is at the top of the list.</rant>
Yeah it's a real shame. They promised Marshmallow and cancelled it in the end without any information to us users...
Never gonna buy a Huawei again.

There is an Android 6.0 update since a half year. But this don't come over OTA, right? They have canceled this? I could flash it for 6 month. Since this time there come no newer security patches. Really bad by huawei.
The update has broken some things like the launcher. I have must for the person take the settings new. Maybe that was the reason for cancel. Just flashable, no OTA, so do you mean it, right?
For M2-801L (lte-version) we have used the B206. Looks that huawei's developer had gotten no much time for this device. So no official roll out possible. For P8 Lite they roll out every month security patches. Crazy for a cheap phone.

Samsung are no better.
I have lost count of the amount of Samsung devices that I have owned that have never had more than one or two very minor updates and then been abandoned by them.
My last tablet was the Galaxy TabPRO 8.4, it was released as part of their flagship range at the time, got 3 or 4 security patches then abandoned by them - only ever had 4.4.2 which was a real shame given its good spec and awesome 2560 x 1600 screen.
I dont care about updates
You shouldn't be so harsh on huawei, because updates are only important if you play on your device. I only use it as a media device, and not for games, and I think there will be sufficient apps for it in the next 3 years. It is also important, that no update is better than ****ty update. I just changed from my Nexus 7 to Huawei mediapad, because there was an update to lollipop. beforethe update everything was smooth, now the device is lagging so hard, I wish I were able to downgrade it.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-7/help/nexus-7-unusabable-5-1-t3110720
@Boris An sorry to correct you. But with all those newly found security breaches on the SoC level "no update" is unacceptable. I bought it because Huawei stated that they will update the M2 at least to Marshmallow. That's just ridiculous and causes an enormous fragmentation. I'm so glad that Treble has to be active and implemented on all devices delivered with an Android 8 since this year. Won't buy any device running Android 7 or lower any longer, just to show those OEM that it's time for a change. And Huawei is just dead for me. Never again. Such a bad service...
Treble can realise a better update policy across different OEMs and bring Android nearer to the best practice update policy of Apple, assuring more devices to be other latest Android version and security-patch level.

6.0 on 801l available, but security patch just from end 2016. Very bad and there is no newer version like B206?
Will post the name, something like B010 was pushed today as a new security patch.Something like 58Mb, with device improvements and security updates.Didnt install it yet.I have the 16gb wifi version of the 10.1 inch M2.Gladly the still update it, now hoping we will ever get a newer emui.Nice tab, very nice but cant share it with my partner for example due to emui 3.1..Happy anyway!
For the M2 801l it's B208 out with march security patch and EMUI 4.0.3. Better than nothing.
Got this update last week-end:
OTA-M2-A01WV100R001C100B008_B010
This improves system stability and security, along with the newest security patches from Google.
i received the "com.huawei.android.hwouc.17784.apk" through the Yalp store, not google playstore...Is it safe to install it and try update?

Asus zenfone 5z android updates and monthly security patches

Couple of days back I bought asus zenfone 5z. But, to my surprise it is still running 8.0... With security patch of June 5!! This is how asus deals with its flagship?
Will asus provide monthly security patches Atleast once in two or three months ?
What about 8.1.0 one plus 6 Is already has a android P beta but we are still stuck with 8.0. Is it wise to return this device and getting a one plus 6.
But from features, performance and value for money this is better device than one plus 6.
Is it really worth to have a android device with stock like experience with updates or a full fledged device which is stuck with some Android version.
Correct me if I am wrong I feel android major updates which Google releases every year changes are mostely done on above layers and not much on kernal level exception in case if the processor or hw is changed. If consider xiomi they already have most of the useful features in their ui which Google has provided in 8.0.
Neverthles atleast flagship which are more expensive in my openion should have proper updates from OEM atleast for two years which is not the case.
Please let me know your experience with Asus in termed of device support for Android updates I consider moving on instead of getting stuck with old os which no one cares.

OP expects too much. Samsung doesn't even release updates that fast. OnePlus is closer to stock Android and is easier to implent into upgrades.
Yeah, this is the reason we are not even worried about the Samsung and will never bother to buy one.
How good is asus in updates aspects, just asking as this is my first asus device to have.

Asus typically does 2 month intervals with the security patches.
Next update will be huge
I really think the next update will be huge
a) August security patch
b) Navigation gesture.
But it is high time they launch ZenUI based on Asus Zenfone Max Pro of India on all their phone. It is also called ZenUI and it is so close to stock. It feels really odd that the expensive model dont have latest stock UI

P20 lite Android 10 (EMUI 10) update status

Hey everyone! ?
In this thread I will update you on anything related to EMUI 10 based on Android 10 Q for the P20 lite.
I've found some interesting information regarding Android Q on the P20 lite. I've attached a screenshot of something I keep on getting when I open HiCare. This is in Dutch, but I will translate it for you. It says:
5 promises for carefree use
1. Use apps
2. Update apps
3. Security updates
4. Service
5. Android Q
This is already a good start, but we don't know if this message is just to the general Huawei smartphones, or the P20 lite.
UPDATE 1 - JULY 12TH 2019: Huawei is ready to show its EMUI 10 based on Android Q next month. This might mean earlier release for the current devices, which will result in more time being left for older / budget devices.
Source
UPDATE 2 - JULY 15TH 2019: Today Huawei Central has released a topic talking about what phones will get the EMUI 10. The P20 lite is listed here too, but it is on the list of devices that will probably get it, so not the list of the devices that will get it.
Source
UPDATE 3 - SEPTEMBER 17TH 2019: Great news! We just got an official confirmation that our device will get Android 10 in March 2020.
Source
UPDATE 3.1 - OCTOBER 8TH 2019: The P20 lite is removed from the list on source 3. This doesn't mean it won't come, but keep it in mind.
UPDATE 4 - NOVEMBER 7TH 2019: We are getting EMUI 10 in March 2020. You can copy the link into google translate and select Romainian to your own language. Source
UPDATE 5 - NOVEMBER 27TH 2019: Huawei is not releasing Android 10 for the P20 lite. @ZoufalyP thanks for mentioning
Source
UPDATE 6 - JANUARY 19TH 2020: Some more proof that they won't be releasing it for the P20 lite.
Source
Thanks @CristianLN and @Inf1n1te for mentioning
UPDATE 7 - JANUARY 21ST 2020: Huawei has officially announced the list of devices getting EMUI 10, with the P20 lite not being listed. If you really want Android 10, you might want to look into custom roms, but know that Huawei's bootloaders are almost impossible to unlock.
Source
UPDATE 8 - FEBRUARY 10TH 2020: Instead of monthly updates, the P20 lite will now get updates every quarter. This probably means that there will be no EMUI 10 like they said earlier.
Source
UPDATE 9 - FEBRUARY 13TH 2020: Bad news. Very bad news. The P20 lite won't get any updates anymore, not even security ones. No EMUI 10 for us. I thought all Android phones should get at least 2 years of updates. Huawei's decision might make their current status even worse...
Source
Ofcourse, the P20 lite isn't €200-€300 like Huawei's previous lite series, it was €400 at launch, so there is a bigger chance of them releasing it for us. I can't confirm anything about this since it's really early and the Android Q hasn't launched a stable version, so take this with a grain of salt.
If you have any questions about EMUI 9.1, please ask them on this thread from @ars_chelsea, there are tons of people helping you there. Here's the link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-p20-lite/how-to/android-pie-update-status-huawei-t3836567 - Also, please let me know about any updates of EMUI 10 by commenting on the main post or sending me a dm so I can add it to the main post.
If this comes out, this might come next year or even more, you saw how long it took for pie to come out.

1. Yes, open HiCare and click updates. It should be available there.
2. Normally they gave 1 update for every lite phone, but this one cost more at launch then the normal ones from Huawei. That's also a bigger chance of them releasing it, but it will probably come later.

Are you sure? It should be out for all devices by now. You just have to open the HiCare application in your device and look for update section. Rollback is an option which HiSuite has on computers AFAIK.

For everyone it will come, originally it would release in the end of July, but some people like me already got it in May. If you still can't update in the end of this month, you should contact Huawei about it. And no, a VPN won't help you, because it looks at the IMEI number. Also, it's only available for the ANE-LX1 and some ANE-LX3 models I think.
Hi everyone
This thread leads to Android Q status
My thread leads to any updates on Android Pie which is already released globally, but "released/launched" means that the OTA's have started to Roll out in phases, on some countries it will be slower and for some Single SIM devices and most of the carrier locked ones will have the pie update a bit later just like any other update they had in the past.

Will the A70 get android 12?

Please can someone tell me if the A70 will get android 12 update? S10 is officially getting android 12 and the A70 was released after the S10, also it was a quiet expensive device so I don't see why it won't get the update.
Samsung promised 3 OS updates for the S series, starting from S10. It also promised 4 years of security updates (only 2 OS) for every phone launched in 2019 and beyond.
No OEM loves long-term supports. It's bad for business. So there's no official One UI 4.x for the A70.
But that's why we're here. Of course there'll be some unofficial ports. And it'll be exciting.

S10 series was released in early 2019 even before A70 was released and will still get android 12 so why not the A70? They said they will give A series 3 major OS updates like S series and then they just decide not to do that! This is unacceptable.

Maybe that is to force you to buy new phones, I am not sure.

The official word from Samsung was to give their flagship Galaxy S-series five years of support, like Apple, that is 3 major OS updates, and two years of support.
The official word for phones released in 2019 and beyond is to give them 4 years of support, 2 major OS updates, and 2 years of security updates.
Understand this. The 3 major updates are only for the S-series (possible the Note, too) as of Samsung's official essay. That means neither the A-series nor the M-series are included.
That doesn't mean there's no chance we might not get Android 12, officially. But, even if that happened, it'll not be soon. That's how business works. Push people to buy the next phone.
In my country, I can trade my phone with an S10 for less than 50$. Maybe you should buy an S10 if you really want 12.

Question Poco F3 update support

Hi, I would like to buy used Poco F3 but I wonder how long will it be supported by security patches. Is 2023 the last year of updates for this phone?
2 major Android updates and 3 years of security updates.
It was delivered with Android 11.
Actually Android 12 so calculate for urself.
Should be upcoming Miui 14/Android 13 be last major update while security update will have for another year I think. But you never know. I mean Poco F2 Pro released 2020 was not eligible for Miui 14 but Miui 14 is now going to be release. Only its Miui 14 with Android 12.
Yeah, just got MIUI14 / Android 13, last major update. Also security update are not always every month but sparse.
Dude. This device will unofficially last for so many years with its rich and vast community. Such a capable device is so worth it. Believe me.
I've bought it just for the sake of the hardware. The moment I received it. I instantly unblocked bootloader. A week later, I started my beautiful experience with AOSPs.
Definitely a device you can feel so good about, for having such an amazing performance.
For the MIUI 14 with Android 13 on my Xiaomi phone, the Android security update is 2022-12.
