What I've known is that if you install either an Oreo or nougat ROM over a marshmallow baseband, it gets bricked.... But if you have a baseband from Oreo(for example) and you install either marshmallow or nougat, it is OK, no problem with it. However, I don't know which baseband version belongs to which android version.
If I'm mistaken, please someone corrects me...
I personally had 1.5 version and was capable to install AEX 8.1. However, I didn't know if there was any problem with 4G or 3G because I don't use data.
So, the first thing you gotta do is knowing which baseband you have... If you have 1.70 or 1.76 it is OK for all ROM you'd like to install.
1.70 version is from Chinese z2 version and 1.76 from Indian version... I've also heard that on 1.70 VolTE (which I have non idea what it is, but loooots of people ask for it) doesn't work and it does work on 1.76. However yesterday I saw a comment which said that with 1.70 baseband version that user is able to have VolTE working fine.
If you don't want to have any problem with basebands, what you have to do is upgrade it... Some methods erase all your data and some others block your bootloader. So what I did was install H2OS (2018 version) to avoid losing all my data and blocking my bootkoader.
Here is the link of the ROM
https://drive.google.com/file/...x3DWTrjJct7y7hF02fcnithK6/view
P.S: I downloaded it through my cellphone (specifically via "via browser") and at the time of installing it, it gave me an error. The error was about corruption or something like that, so I highly recommend you to download it from your PC cuz that way you'll have no problem
I invite you to taste that ROM (H2OS), it is absolutely amazing in term of performance; battery I don't remember it, but the ROM is awesome...

Operating system/Firmware question

So, as I understand. This phone works similarly in the way the Moto G did in the sense that the Firmware and the actual ROM are seperate?
firmware controlling things in the background and the ROM being front and center?
Theoretically speaking, I could run Lineage 14.1 with HTC MM Firmware AND Nougat firmware? (Obviously not at the same time)
Only reason I ask is I come from a G3 which requires TWRP and all roms to be "Bumped" so things are a bit different (No bootloader unlock)

If you read the LOS installation instructions you see that it support both MM and N. Supported firmware depends on the rom, though many roms will ask you during installation which firmware you're running and support both.

So what are the advantages/disadvantages of using either mm or nougat firmwares? Do they effect anything realistically?

Nougat firmware could have more advanced radios for improved signal.
A caution: don't mix Marshmallow and Nougat firmware bits, such as aboot.
I did that and ruined a perfectly good Ten.

So like flashing a marshmallow aboot to a nougat firmware?
If so I wont even be bothering with that stuff.

The Nougat update gave a performance boost.
And staying up to date with firmware is always a good idea. Google is releasing monthly security updates now.

Can I flash a custom rom on the phone after oreo update ?

I have updated to oreo but the phone has terrible battery life even after trying to disable some wakelocks , using greenify , forcing doze etc. I was wondering if I could flash lineage os or let's say resurrection remix on the phone while it has oreo firmware .
I also would like to know

Of course custom roms can be flashed after stock Oreo update.
BUT:
You need to read the requirements in the thread for the specific rom you wish to flash.
There is no single answer for all cases/roms.
Each rom is going to be different, based on whatever blobs were used during rom compilation.
If the rom was built using Oreo blobs, then Oreo firmware is required.
If the rom was compiled using Nougat blobs, then it would require Nougat firmware, despite the actual version of android it is...
So...., read the OP of the thread for the rom you want to flash.
If that doesn't answer your question, then read the last 5-10 pages of the thread.
Still no answer found, then ask in that particular rom thread, what firmware is required.
It's actually pretty simple and typically requires a little reading.
(eventually, all Oreo based custom roms, should be using Oreo blobs and would then require Oreo firmware)
Things are in what I consider a transition phase currently....
TL;DR: LeeDroid 5+ is your only option ATM.

how to get oreo zui for indian z2plus

I came across chinese official oreo zui 3.xx, i want to know if there is a simple way to install it to my z2 plus Indian variant through recovery mode without installing a twrp recovery?
Also is it worth it to get oreo zui?
Oreo is much better rom than nougat. Yeh you can install it without unlocking bootloader and without installing twrp recovery. Good thing is you will still get your warranty as i have availed Warranty with china rom in it

official chinese zui do not come with gapps you will have to install them later, gapps packages from opengapps don't work, you have to use google installer but they cause notification problems ..... all this problems not worth it, as you can install custom zui that have gapps but they will need twrp.
Hope this helps...
Read this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/lenovo-zuk-z2/how-to/rom-zui-3-5-243st-z2-plus-z2-t3745636 about the official ZUI 3.5.xxx
You need access to PC + data cable to flash Chinese ZUI. Read that thread, pretty detailed information available on how to.
I did get myself the Oreo via that thread but Chinese ZUI isn't workable due to GApps issue. GApps are there in that ROM, but not the playstore. You have to install Playstore apk.
Not only that, usual ZUI issues are still there plus known issue like Contact sync etc. Lot of work to get it running.
I felt frustrated trying to fix things, then decided to drop the plan and went to other custom rom or simply switch back to stock ZUI 2.5.104 ST (Indian version).
lenovo z2 plus
Can i install the chinese zui without flashing or not?9

I'm on that ROM now for almost 4-5 months and I've had no problem whatsoever .. and I get regular updates too .. only thing is I need to download the update that is from XDA forum itself and dirty flash it from twrp that's it
Hers the Iink to the ROM .. you can check it out ..

Questions about treble and baseband

Hi! I'm using Dirty Unicorns Unofficial v11.6 (Android 7.1.2) with baseband ".2.0c1.9-00026-M8996FAAAANAZM-1" for some time and I not aware of recent Android news.
I want to update to Jaguar Oreo and I've read that I should use baseband 1.7 and also this rom has TREBLE and I need to change "factory" to "vendor".
But I'm a bit lost of how to do this things, what's the correct baseband, how to flash it and what to do when migrating from android 7.1 (without treble) to Oreo (with treble), can someone give me some guidance?
Thanks!

can i downgrade?

hi everybody i recently purchased this g710em and out of the box i found the pie update so i did install it right away but i am very disappointed coming from an xz2 which was very snappy like realy snappy compared to the g7 and i didn't try oreo yet my request for you guys eas if u any one can hzlo or share his experience:
_can i downgrade to oreo.
-(if yes) is oreo better than pie.
-what is the latest oreo firmware or the most accomplished one.
i really like the audio capabilities and the build quality of the g7 but i cant keep it withe this kind major problem wich lag in the very basic ui. thank you. very much in advance.
If it is rootable then proceed to root and use a non stock rom that is oreo based.
Unless someone has made a stock backup you can restore via twrp.
i did downgraded with lgup to the g710em10s everything seem fine sim card speed no stuttering anymore even while installing 170 app from playstore ram management now i have 1.1 gb free ram while in pie i had only 400mb or 500 mb switching between apps via recent button seem snappier i let guys now about the sot battery.
Can you provide some more details about the procedure. I am complete newbie and couldnt figure out.
Not running pie makes u exposed to som nasty explots.
But a aosp shuld be faster even android 10
