Rate this thread to express how you think the Samsung Galaxy Note 7's Wifi performs. A higher rating indicates that it has excellent range, throughput, and signal strength. Like when you're taking a dump in the bedroom upstairs, do your videos have to buffer or do they come through without interruption?

Got the phone today. Awesome device. It connected to my work wifi just fine, great throughput. Came home, set it up on my home wifi, after entering password it connected but no internet throughput. Played with phone settings, deleted and re-added the home network, no good. Finally went into my router settings. Router was set to communicate over channel 1, changed it to channel 3, now it works perfectly, great throughput. Weird but it seems this phone doesn't play nice on channel 1. Every other device in the house, computers, smartphones, etc worked fine on channel 1, but not my Note 7. YMMV, but if you run into issues, try a different channel.
Wifi seems to be stronger than the note 4 i had.
Constant wifi drops on my Note 7 surprisingly
My N7 has quite the strong WiFi connection. Where my 6P wouldn't constantly drop, the N7 has been steady and reliable.

Yes. Me too. And I'm no longer convinced that channel 1 was my fix. Rebooting the router probably did the trick. Hoping its not a temporary fix though...
No noticeable different between the connectivity of WiFi on this phone vs. my actual $1,200 desktop computer.
$1200!! what's the wrong is this.
Wifi is faster and range is increased. Much better compared to my note 3.
Yall try some SMB or local wifi transfers and let me know how it goes. Seems to be LOTS of people who have SLOW INTERNAL transfer speeds. Say, from a computer over wifi to your phone.. 100--500 KB MAX. I have never seen it go over a mb.

Same here. I hope this issue will be solved on the replacement unit we'll receive or in a software update because it's really annoying.
If you can, use FTP instead of SMB. You'll have 10 MB/s instead of 0.5 MB/s.

Is it possible ? I have been disappointed with the browsing speed on my TP2 and thought it might be something to do with MTU settings or something like this. However, last weekend I decided to change my router mode from 801.11b/g to 801.11g only. WOW, suddenly my browsing was perfect (the same speed as browsing with my laptop)
So I wondered if it's possible to set something on the TP2 to allow it to connect at g Only - for when using in areas which have a Free Hotspot (like Cafe's or Hotels), since I cannot control the speed that they allow me to connect at.
It's very possible that my TP2 was connecting originally at g speed but that rates were in some way competing against each other.
C
WM will normally default your connection to the better of the two choices. If the option is between b or g, the connection would default to g. There are some things that could be affecting your connection, however. This is most likely a problem with your router broadcasting both signals at once. If you have no use for a b channel, then have it simply focus on sending the g channel.
This is exactly what I have done - shut down the b channel. However, I am trying to ensure that I connect with g ONLY whenever I find a Hotspot in public places.
C
Maybe the problem with browsing speed isn't your phone!
Better check if you are in an area with lots of wireless networks... Try to set your router to use a channel which is 3 channels distance from other WiFi networks.
For example if you have networks on channels 1,3,5,11 you should set your router to use channel 8.
Also try to set "802.11G Protection" to ON, if your router has it!
Any solution? (I know it's old, but I also want to restrict to 801.11g on my android tablet only and I have found nothing on the internet).

The issue is not with the phone in this case, but the access point. When running in mixed mode, data transfer speeds on wifi access points slow down unless they have multiple dedicated radios. If you want the faster wifi speed, just don't use 802.11b. It's antiquated anyway, especially considering we now have not only g, but n and ac standards on the 802.11 rfc.

i've noticed, however, my phone's (samsumg g-s5) battery drains much quicker when connected to 802.11n network compared to 802.11g. there is no real need for more than 54 Mb/s on my phone, but on my laptop there is. therefore, a way to restrict the phone to use only 802.11g in a mixed-network environment would be beneficial.

As far as I know, you can only restrict the mode of the access point, not the phone. I have yet to see any wireless client device, in fact, that lets me restrict which radio mode it uses, save perhaps some homebrew stuff running embedded linux.
EDIT: Pardon the grave-dig. I had been off the site for a while and only just noticed the above reply to my posting from last year after having last night posted a question of my own.
Hi,
I'm connected to my LAN, router in same room, so signal quality is great.
Thing is, when I copy larger files from my PC over WiFi using any File Manager, speed is like 500KB/sec which is pretty low.
Any thoughts or ideas?
What are your speeds like just running Speed Tests?
11.5Mbit download, 3Mbit upload, that's what Speed Tests shows.
My laptop downloads the same files from my PC over the same WiFi network at 10MB/sec. I hoped GN would at least do more than 1MB/sec.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Sounds like its the apps problem if the speed tests show good down/up speeds.
I'm finding this aswell, It's really annoying me. On speed test I get about 7-800kbs which is ridiculous when I can download on my laptop over the same wireless network at ~6mbs (50Mbit internet connection). It doesn't bother me so much for installing apps and such as I they tend to be pretty small so its ok, the problem arises when transferring large files to the phone as it takes an age. It's also a problem as I was hoping to be able to stream my bluray rips to the phone, the video processor is fully capable of decoding the content but due to this annoying network bottleneck I can't play any films over around the 7GB mark and I've not got a prayer with my 20GB+ rips which over devices on the network have no trouble streaming.
Which app do you use to transfer?
Try to use different app.

I'm still waiting for my Nexus so i can't exactly comment on the device itself, but I use the app "SwiFTP" on my Galaxy S2
I think its an awesome app - all you need is a FTP client on your computer and WiFi connection.
SwiFTP basically makes your phone a FTP server and you can use your PC client to connect to your phone and browse/transfer files. Usually speeds range about 2-3mb/s for me which is fast enough
Give it a try! (cause i'd also like to know how it performs on the GN before mine comes haha)
speedtest gives me about 50Mb dl and 10Mb ul
My internet connection is 100Mb dl/10Mb ul
OK I tried different app: Wireless File Transfer Pro.
It runs on the phone, then you open a browser on PC and select files to upload. Doesnt show data transfer rate, but I can already see it's much better (I was refreshing the folder on the phone while 650MB file was being transfered).
So at least it's not hardware. (actually Ive read that GN has same WiFi chip as SGS2).
Anyway, sounds like it's all software related.
I prefer to see data transfer rate when moving/copying and so few apps support that
so is it a good or bad thing that the nexus has the same wifi chip as the galaxy s 2?

It's a no-go. Samsung/Google should have reinvented the wheel for the GN!
Seriously: If the GN didn't have the SGS2-wifi chip, it could be a better or a worse wifi chip, so it's neither a good nor a bad thing.
I have restarted my router and then retested the same operation in the same app on both: SGS2 and GN.
SGS2 was transfering at 1.6MB/sec, while GN at 1.2MB/sec. But at the same time I have tested CPU usage while transfer was ongoing and it was 20% at 520MHz, so that's nice.
But I did find out that other apps can transfer much quicker so its not that bad. It's just far from desktop PC speeds, at least as of now. Custom ROMs/kernels might improve things.
What apps do you guys use to transfer files wirelesly onto GN over WiFi? Any benchmarking done? Talking about files minimum 400MB in size.
Retested WiFi File Transfer app trat transfers files from desktop PC via browser, was getting ~2.8MB/sec. Galaxy Nexus, same WiFi network as previous tests. CPU usage while that transfer was in progress was 700-800MHz, 40-50%.
I use es file explorer and its very fast..

I usually prefer SwiftFTP for filetransfer and for direct video/audio streaming via DLNA "Skifta" (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.skifta.android.app).
Don't have my Nexus yet but worked pretty well on my old Milestone 2 so far.
can more people comment on the performance of WIFI on the GN? does it regularly drop its connection? is it as fast as your previous devices? etc. thank you

Mine doesn't drop at all. Seems to work just like SGS2 did.
The local file transfer speeds have absolutely nothing to do with your ISP's internet throughput speeds, it has everything to do with the type of your router, and the frequency you're connecting your device to.
If your router is 802.11g, the speeds will be capping in theory to 54mbps, in reality much, much lower.
If your router is 802.11n and you're connecting to 5Ghz access point, max theoretical speeds are over 300mbps when transferring files internally, again real world speeds are much slower due to interference, etc.
Also the actual flash memory in smartphones are not as speedy as solid state drives in computers so that's another bottleneck.
So firstly check the exact model of your router, google the spec sheet and start troubleshooting.
In my case the fastest speed I have seen so far was 3.2MB/sec, which is like 30Mbit. That was when uploading big file from desktop PC to my GN. This was on 2.4GHz n network with 40Mz band.

That's pretty much as high as you'll see on 2.4Ghz g network. Remember your flash storage has to keep up with all the file writing and it's far from being fast.
Safe to say you're seeing healthy transfer rates, mate.
Not sure if it is something on my end, but ever since the upgrade, which I did as a clean install, I have had issues with being "connected" but not going anywhere. I am connected to wifi, have an IP address, but nothing will load, then all of a sudden it starts working again. My laptop, my phone, etc have no problems during this time, so it doesn't appear that its my router or anything. I am using the 5ghz band on the Nexus and laptop and plan on testing to see if it does better on the 2.4ghz spectrum but it seems like it affects all my apps. I will be looking on Instagram and then pics stop loading, I open the browser, can't browse, type thing, so not app specific, but the entire time I show excellent signal strength, i'm maybe 10ft from the router, my work laptop is connected on VPN right next to me and doesn't drop out, again making me think it isn't my side, but more so something with the Nexus since 5.0 update.
Dude, Google.
I have this issue as well.
For general internet use and most apps it's not a problem as I only lose connection for ~10s before it reconnects but if I'm playing a game that requires a persistent internet connection it kicks me out at the most inopportune times...
I hope there's a fix soon, KitKat was flawless.
Wifi on my OnePlus 3 is very weak compared to my 1st gen Moto G . Audio is stuttering while playing through bluetooth . Already tried replacing the phone but the issue is still there . If anybody has a solution please do let me know . TIA
Do you mean the wifi reception is weak when you are away from the router or all the time ?

On WiFi I have the same issue also: where my previous OP2 was getting signal wih no problem, with this I'm getting it weak or none.
No issue regarding Blueooth.
I'm hoping to get an update soon (I read somewhere that 3.1.3 makes it better, so I hope the 3.1.4 bring that modification also)
Get new router.
I am also running 3.1.2 and I can confirm that wifi is much weaker than on all my nexus devices.
Haven't read anything about it getting better with 3.1.3. Sure it is not an hardware issues, do u have any sources reporting that?

You're right. This is the changelog of 3.1.3
* Camera HDR performance tuning
* Bluetooth and NFC connectivity improvements
* Bug fixes in general telephony
* Bug fixes in Google and OnePlus apps
While this one is for 3.1.4

I've had to issues with either, and I stream bluetooth everyday in my car.
I can't say I've had any Wifi issues but I've definitely had Bluetooth connectivity issues in my car. Question. There is already talk about update 3.1.4 coming out but I haven't even received 3.1.3 yet. Is this something that should be pushed to my phone or do you have to load the OTAs manually? Sorry if that sounds stupid. This is my first oneplus phone so I'm a little new to the experience
Bluetooth while using my phone is rubbish on my op3 caller's keep cutting in and out of the conversation getting on my nerves!!!!!
Bluetooth on my car is almost perfect... Wifi is bad in terms of weak signal.

3.1.3 is not official I think. U can download it as a custom rom without a problem. OP3 Lite is pretty good and debloated. Like stock but with less bloat.
I posted a similar WiFi issue in the one plus forums but no response so far. Maybe it's just me facing this issue:
There is definitely something wrong with OP3 or the ASUS router.
I am experiencing a strange issue with WiFi. The wireless router is about 45 feet away from my bedroom. I am able to use WiFi in my bedroom on my laptop, HTC M7, One Plus One, and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. However, when I use OP3 there, I am connected to WiFi (router) but it says there is no Internet connection. As I walk closer to the router, the problem goes away. Can someone please suggest a solution?
For now, this is how I have improved the situation:
However, here is the workaround.
1. Note down the MAC address of your phone. Settings->About Phone->Status- IP Address section shows a number separated by ":".
2. Login to your router as administrator. If you are using DHCP, the IP addresses are being assigned automatically by the router. This is where we will make a change. For the phone mac address, set the IP address as static (one way to get an IP address is to check what IP address is assigned to your phone when you are connected to WiFi). Note down this IP address and assign manually on the router to this MAC address.
3. Now, the last part. On your phone go to your WiFi network. Long press and modify. Choose Static IP address option. Assign the IP address you hard coded on the router for this device. Set the Gateway to the LAN IP address of the router. Set the DNS servers as 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 (google servers). This should make things work.
put me down for bluetooth issues as well. It connects to my caddy then drops 1 min later.

Strange. Assigning a static IP shouldn't solve Wifi-connection problems...
But: thanks anyway.
had more issues with note 4 and Bluetooth than with this 1+3. I hope all signal problems are software related and not something related to antennas.

You are right. This was not the solution that should have worked. But it is working for me most of the time. I think OP3 needs an update to fix the WiFi issue.
Bluetooth and Wifi Issues
I too am experiencing issues. First of all my wifi is significantly slower than on my OPO. It also gets worse reception than my OPO did. Bluetooth is a complete mess right now. My car radio will not play if I press the play button, and I have to go into the app to play music everytime. At my home wifi it stutters very often and it randomly stops playing. It will often stop playing a playlist when there is 3 seconds left in a song, yet it does not show paused. It just sits there. I can not tell if this is on OP or spotify's end, but it is really annoying me. It happens even when I am not on bluetooth. But the constant stuttering happens over bluetooth no matter the app.
I'm surprised to see this thread. I find the WiFi on my OP3 exceptional.
My moto x pure and laptop (razer blade) don't get WiFi in my bathroom but my OP3 gets full service.
Yeah for some reason I can't get past 2mb/s down on a 50mb connection. Works fine on everything else, even the upload reaches 10mb/s on the phone. This seriously is a huge problem. It even takes about a minute to obtain an up address after connecting to the network
I have Samsung Note 10 Plus , it shows wi-fi 6 logo when connected to Asus Wifi-6 router AX88U. Sometimes, when I leave my home and come back, the Note 10 plus does connect to AX88U wifi-6 but the speed is slow (about 50 mbps on 200mbps connection). If I turn off wifi on my phone and turn it back again. I get blazing fast 226 mbps. I did check some forums and was advised to change phone wifi setting is to static IP with primary DNS to 8.8.8.8 and secondary dns as 8.8.4.4 but this does not help.
Other steps taken: I disabled Wifi-6 on my router, but issue does not go away even when wifi ac (5Ghz) is being used.
Also, I have done "forget" network on phone, restart phone, reprogram Wifi setting. No use...
Another interesting fact: I have connected Netgear R7900 (wifi ac only, Mu-mimo) in AP mode to AX88U via cat7 cable. One day, I had observed that as I entered my home, my phone had connected to the Netgear router and the download speed was 200mbps with ping of 8 milliseconds. While I was roaming in the home, I was simultaneously browsing a few websites on my phone, and I observed the phone went from Netgear to ASUS router because I could see Wi-Fi logo without the Wi-Fi 6 symbol and then as soon as it hooked to Asus, I could see Wi-Fi logo with Wi-Fi 6 symbol. All of a sudden, the download speed as tested on speed test app went down from 200 Mbps to 6 Mbps. I switched off the Wi-Fi of my phone and switched it back again. the phone then connected with ASUS router on Wi-Fi 6 and the download speed was 200mbps. So this means that my phone performs very poorly when first-time re-connected to ASUS router. Would this be an issue with my phone not receiving signals properly - because of some issue while acting like a wifi-6 client?
Can someone please advise me how to have my phone connect to router with full internet speed? This only happens if I go out of home and come back in AX88U signal range. Also is this a router issue or phone issue? All other devices in my home are wireless ac (Wifi 5) only and have no issues with Asus router. Asus customer support is pointing finger on the Note 10 plus. Please help!
From what you've described here I would say the issue lies with the assus router. Since the netgear works fine.
On reconnect maybe it's not recognizing the phone properly. When it reconnects to your phone with slow speeds have you checked the router's connected device map? (shows what devices are connected to it) does it recognize properly?

Thank you lennie for your reply. Yes, the device shows up on clients list/ device map. Router does handshake immediately but does not transmit proper speeds. Only difference here is Netgear is AP and is Wifi 5 (ac Mu-mino), whereas Asus ax88u is Wifi 6, ax, main router. So phone does talk well to Netgear but in ac mode. Phone immediately talks to Asus in ax mode but slow speeds. If there is any other way out please let me know... TIA.

Hmmm have you tried to reset network settings on your phone yet? But I seriously think it's a problem with the router and not the phone.
Does this problem only happen to the Note 10 and no other device?
Have you checked for router updates?
Do you use a private DNS service? VPN?
Do you have WiFi power saving mode enabled?

Hi lennie
I did reset network settings, including forget network>reboot> re-program wifi password. Nothing worked. Router is updated. I do not use private DNS or VPN. Not sure about power saving, all settings are default... Also; in the past I used to have Netgear R7800 as main router and R6900P as AP, such incidents did not occur. Not sure where the problem lies. While contacting respective customer care, Asus blames Samsung and vice versa.

FYI for everyone - I just got on phone, my 4th time with Asus. They finally agreed that one more user was facing same issue so they have taken feedback seriously and are addressing this connectivity issue via another firmware update. No idea when this would be released. Asus asked me to return to original seller (an individual on eBay as it is within 30 days of purchase) or send to Asus for service. If service, then I will have to pay for shipping and arrange for a temporary router myself. Hence returning to seller on eBay. So we do have issues where router will not talk well with certain devices!

OK thought so. Glad to hear that they've taken your issue. There's a reason people don't buy Asus products anymore like they use to especially motherboards. They tend to do some things right and others just wrong which you usually don't find out until it's too late.

Thanks lennie - any suggestions for a good router? I have one R7800 acting like AP, handles about 15 devices on 2.4Ghz (IoT - smart plugs, 3 wifi cameras @720p, not too much data load; and AX88U main router that handles about 8 devices, where most work is done, like iPads, Cellphones, Laptops on 5Ghz. Shall I get another R7800 as I did not see any performance difference between Wifi 5 & 6 on a 200mbps bandwidth - or I have shortlisted Wifi-6 RAX80 Netgear as main router. Any advice? TIA!

I got informed via another forum subscription that a new AX88U firmware update was out.......
It also happened around the day I was in a bitter situation as I was waiting for seller on eBay to accept my return request. He is a good guy who did not use the router on Ax devices. Now that I have purchased from him and using it on ax client, we came across this issue. Immediately upon reading this note, I updated the router firmware. I then went outside my home for a short walk but when I came back, my cellphone still had poor download speed with router upon reconnecting on 5Ghz. I explained this new observation and sent screenshots of speedtest and the seller kindly accepted my return request. Sadly this update did not sort out my issue.
But here is the good part: I had purchased a new AX88U at full price from Amazon. Initially I noted my 2.4 Ghz speed was very poor 4-25 mbps even when "6" was seen in wifi logo, means cellphone and router were on some new signal standard. With this update, I am getting 7 ms ping and 120-130 mbps download speed (same speeds on 2.4 Ghz with the "faulty" router described above). So this update did really speed up the internet speeds most evidently seen on 2.4 Ghz frequency. Also worth noting: I am not having the "poor download speed upon reconnect" with the brand new router that I just got.
Hello from Germany
This is a bug i already noticed and spent hours and hours with my Note 10 Plus and Asus AX88U !!! Now after 2 Month i give up. If you have 2 same 5GHZ Networks in your house (for better coverage) with the same SSID you can
see what is happening. My Internet Provider Speed is 200 down and 80 up. When first connected to the Asus Wifi 6 Router everything is fine. Than when you go one floor up you will get connected to the Other (i have tested both Asus AI and also as normal Access point via Ethernet ) Router and everything is ok. But than when you go back and connect again with the Asus AX88u in Wifi6 the Download speed on my Note 10 Plus is capped at 4-7 mbps down and 10 up !!! from 200/80. This is only affecting on the new Asus AX88u and Note 10 Plus and it doasn't metter if you switch Wifi6 or use Wifi5 AC . I tested also without 160 Mhz and every other mode nothing is changing. The sync on the Note 10 Plus is 1200 mbps on 5 GHZ so the most possible sync between note 10 device and the Router !! But after you connect to the same SSID on other channel in your house you will have this bug when returning to the Asus AX88u ! Only way is WIFI off and ON and all Speed are back again on Note 10. I have written to Samsung but no one replyed. With other devices like IPAD Pro 12.9 2018 or some Xiaomi devices everything works fine. Only Note 10 Plus is having this Bug . Most of the People will not notice it because almost all services will run fine for them with 10 mbps but i do because i always have my note 10 with Network Data in Statusbar and want to know all the time my network speed etc.
Sry for my English but i hope you understand. Definitly a AX88u Bug !
UPDATE: I tested with new Firmware from 25 of November they seemed to fixed it !!!
Update again : The Bug is still there! Almost every time when u roam in your house and reach again the wifi 6 router from Asus.
Again I have two wifi in my house with same ssid and different channels. It doesn't matter if you put the second router in access point mode or normal router(connected via ethernet cat 6 to Asus) . I also tryed a second Asus Router in Asus Mesh mode wired and over WiFi. Still same behavior.
When first connected to the Asus rt ax 88u with my note 10 plus everything is fine. The wifi sync is 1200 mbps when in same room and I get all of my isp bandwidth 200/80 from my provider. When I move upstairs and reach the second Hotspot the phone automatically switches to the other router (also tested different once). Also here everything is OK you get the full bandwidth up and down. But as soon as you return to the wifi 6 coverage of the rt ax88u the wifi speeds are dropping to almost 4-7 mbps! Down and maximum 20-30 up. Really strange behavior the sync is normal with 1200 mbps but you get no bandwidth! When moving up to the other network everything works fine again.
Also tryed with switching of ax mode but same problem with AC mode. This is a huge bug with Galaxy note 10 plus and Asus AX 88u Router
I recently acquired the Tenda NOVA MW6 mesh network, and have noticed wifi speed issues only with my note 10, not with roku 4k, not with my box S, not with galaxy tab s6, only with note 10, my cablemodem, it has the option wifi, also had problems, also only with note 10 ....

Same here, also the Tenda NOVA MW6, and also only speed problems with my Note 10. The reason why t¡is because Note 10 connects to 2.4 Ghz network that seems to be much slower than 5Ghz. Sometimes, out of the blue, Note 10 connects to 5Ghz wifi and then no speed problems at all. I'm trying to find out how to force 5Ghz connection or how to turn off 2.4 Ghz on Note 10, but Google disabled that options in last Android version. So, there seems to be no solution, maybe rooting could solve the issue.
