[ROM] Onyx M9 v1.6.1 Beta - VZW 1.33.605.15 / 5.0.2 [DEBLOATED][INIT.D][MODS] - Verizon HTC One (M9)

Onyx M9
Introduction:
The idea behind this ROM was to create something as close to stock as possible while removing the performance & battery robbing Verizon bloatware and other unnecessary services. Several tweaks have been made "behind the scenes" but care has been given to assure that the experience remains true to what HTC intended. This is a work in progress however, in it's current Beta state the ROM is stable. Battery life and performance has improved significantly though mileage may vary.

Based off Verizon 1.33.605.15 release-keys
Android 5.0.2, Sense 7 - Deodexed
Features:
System, Cache and Data partitions are trimmed after installation.

Hey Xavier,
At the moment no however, that's something I'll add to the todo list! Thanks for the suggestion.

Is anyone else having trouble getting the rom going? It seems my Google play services needs updated right away and I lose my Google account and can't add it back.

jtommyj,
When you go through the initial setup and add your google account, when you navigate to the Play Store what happens? Are you saying that your google account gets removed? is it acting like you never setup a google account?
In regards to the play store needing to be updated, this is because the version that ships with the stock rom is one version behind. Play Services should automatically update the Play-Store to: v5.6.8
In the next release, I'll be sure to update all of the built-in applications to the latest iterations by default. The reason I didn't choose to do this as a standard option is because, some people prefer the older, "factory" installed versions over the updated ones.
I tried to replicate this on my device from a completely clean wipe and I'm not seeing the same issue you are.
If you can provide any additional details, I'll look into it and see if I can find anything out of place.
Thanks!

This rom is really old. Don't recommend it for use on the m9 as the latest stock builds fix all kinds of problems.

FAQ
Q: "What home launcher does this ROM use?" - @DrNO[PL]
A: It uses the ReLaunch launcher.
Q: "Where are the downloadable files?" - @kwyrt
A: Since this thread is a DevDB project, the downloads are in a separate page, which is accessible through a link in the ribbon above the OP.
Q: "Does this project use Android 2.3?" - @dorfd1
A: No, it doesn't - the only reason the 1st OP says it does is because 2.3.x is the lowest Android version allowed in the DevDB system. This ROM uses Android 2.1.
Q: "Will multiple languages be added to this ROM?" - @DrNO[PL]
A: No, they won't, because, believe it or not, it's already a stock feature - you just need root to access it! Here's how:
1. Install the app Termimal Emulator from the Market.
2. Open it, and enter the command
Code:
su
The line should now have a "#" on the far left.
3. Enter the command
Code:
am start -n com.android.settings/.DevelopmentSettings
...which launches a hidden settings menu.
4. Tap "Locale Picker[English (United States)]".
5. Choose your language, and enjoy!
Q: "Is this ROM rooted?" - @youxiaojie
A: Yes, it is.
Q: "Are you guys working on an updated ROM that uses 2.3?" - @frap129
A: No, because as of now nobody has been able to update the Android version on the Nook Touch device. 2.1 is the version we are developing for. UPDATE - It's looking like Gingerbread and beyond may be possible for the NST, so the new answer to your question is YES.
Can you post some screenshots?
Which homeapp is used? I'm asking as the one in [NST/NSTG][ROM] Tweaked Modded ROM [Feb16] is restarting / falling into refresh loop with some of my books, which is a bit annoying

No, it's not - the DevDB options just don't allow any Android version below 2.3.x. It's really Android 2.1, just like every other Nook thing.
Sorry about that.

Just flashed and already like it from the start. New, nice pre-boot and shutdown screens and boot animation. Home is just what I searched for. Let me test it for a day or two. I'll let you know about ups and downs, pros and cons... Review comes afterwards
1st question, is there a way to make app drawer to just display icons in 4 columns (with labels or not) instead of 2-column short-list?
2nd are you going to include additional languages similar to HERE?

Answer to 1st question - I bet there is, but I don't know for sure - try messing around with the ReLaunch settings a bit.

Would be nice, but that's not a show stopper.
Rom still did not crash, launcher resterted only once, but it can be my fault. Works smooth and fast. Good job!
Yet I have not opened even one book :silly: lol
In the mean time I've added some, in my opinion, bugs.
I'm going to die now... See you tomorrow

I might look into swapping the settings.apk and merging the functionality in framework-res.apk in that mod you posted. You might be able to flash that mod straight over this, but you'll lose a lot of the theming that @thenookieforlife3 originally added, notably the status bar.
does it be rooted , support init.d and app2sd?

It is rooted.
It does not support init.d yet, but we're working on it.
If App2SD works on any other regular rooted Nook, it works just fine for this ROM, too.
By the way, next time, please don't quote the OP, and save all of us from ESD (Excessive Scrolling Disorder). Also, please edit your post and delete the [quote][/quote] tags and everything in between them.

Are you guys working on compiling an updated ROM? I noticed all the changed files are included in the source other than the device tree, so I may try compiling 2.3, and if that works, higher.

ROM UPDATED May 19, 2015 [ROM] LP 5.1 Resurection-Remix Hardened Unofficial

Rom updated on May 19. This is LP 5.1 release 2. Latest Google/CM/Resurrection sources + all hardened features. Plus cleaned IP addresses (got rid of Google, Level 3 communication, AT&T, Orange, Department of Defense and other shady ips). Also enabled is Volte (enhanced LTE), which is Voice over LTE. This depends on the service provided by your carrier. In the States, for example, T-Mobile provides such services, which include high definition voice. Usually, you need special update done by the manufacturer in conjunction with your carrier. This rom does not need that. Your Z1 is already provisioned for Volte. You will see in Mobile Settings another entry: Enhanced 4g LTE Mode. ALso, in test menu/phone (*#*#4636#*#*), you will see a Volte Provisioned Flag. So, as soon as your carrier starts Volte, you are all set.

Rom updated to latest sources on May 4. In addition to regular hardened features, more than 40 instances of Google IP, Level 3 Communication and Department of Defense IPs removed from sources both for IPV4 and IPV6. The same is replaced with Opendns IP. Keep in mind that those ips go not only in configuration files, but libs also and the latter cannot be decompiled and fixed...

Here is Resurection Remixed Lollipop hardened and secure. Built from sources on February 24.
Changes:
First of all, as many know, encryption on lollipop slows down the device to almost unusable. I was able to resolve that. The culprit was Qualcom crypto module and drivers that collide with graphics. In this rom, when you encrypt your device, there is no noticeable slow down at all. Your master encryption key is no longer stored in crypto module (which rumor has it is backdoored anyway), but rather hashed and salted on the drive itself.
1. Modified kernel to disable creepy SElinux and enable Tomoyo security. Now you can safely use Xposed framework and some modules such as Xprivacy, Appsettings and ShowDialpad, as well as many others
2. Modified kernel to disable qualcom module and drivers
3. Disabled creepy qualcom random number generation and enabled all other methods
4. Enabled 256 bit AES drive encryption as opposed to Google's default 128 bit
5. Enabled all ciphers and hashes available in kernel and disabled by default (thanks Sony and Google)
6. Latest CM changes
7. Omniswitch (to be flashed separately after flashing the rom)
Maybe more
INSTALL:
1. Be on Kitkat, rooted with CWM or TWRP
2. Enter Recovery, wipe System, Data, Cache
3. Flash the rom
4. Flash Omniswitch
5. Reboot and enjoy
If you want to encrypt your device, you need to do 2 additional steps before or after encryption. Go to Developer Options and enable "Force GPU rendering" and "Disable HW overlays. Yes, you have to enable (not disable) "Disable HW overlays" option. The latter won't stick after reboot. So, manually transfer the attached init.d script to /system/etc/init.d and set permissions to at least 744. This way the option will be set at boot and you won't have any noticeable slowdown. In fact, I don't see any difference in speed between encrypted and non encrypted device.

This ROM will maintain root and recovery, right?

Well. The first version had 69 downloads. The latest one had 20. Other than the bogus claim about camera foreclosing (by someone who has Xperia Z3) there were no reports of problems. I have been using this rom for about 10 days without any problems...

[ROM][AOSP][4.4/6.0/7.1] Unlegacy Android Project

The Unlegacy-Android ProjectIntroduction
Unlegacy-Android started out as the OMAP4-AOSP Project. It was created in late 2015 in order to maintain a clean and organized place for pure AOSP support for various OMAP4 devices, such as the Galaxy Nexus and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 series. Over time this evolved to support more than just these devices, but still maintains its roots of supporting "legacy" devices that no longer receive "official" updates: hence Unlegacy-Android was born.
This organization's goal is not to create feature packed ROMs, but to create a base ROM in such a way that custom ROM developers can easily adapt the changes. We're good at (properly) fixing compatibility issues between newer Android versions and older devices, among other core things. The "bells and whistles" like themes we leave to others.
The first public build here had something exclusive for the Galaxy Nexus, yet unseen on any other OMAP4 device: all RAM carveouts reserved for Ducati (the multimedia subsystem of OMAP4, responsible for hardware-accelerated video decoding, encoding and camera functionality) have been switched over to CMA.
A few words for those who see CMA for the first time:
The Contiguous Memory Allocator (CMA) makes it possible for device drivers to allocate big contiguous chunks of memory after the system has booted.
The main difference from the similar frameworks is the fact that CMA allows to transparently reuse memory region reserved for the big chunk allocation as a system memory, so no memory is wasted when no big chunk is allocated. Once the alloc request is issued, the framework will migrate system pages to create a required big chunk of physically contiguous memory.
Click to collapse
This means that a total of 996 MB physical memory is available to the system, while keeping Ducati fully working - this is a huge step forward, coming from the 694 MB available in the last factory image released by Google (Android 4.3). This gives the OS access to an additional 300MB of RAM.
While CMA was just recently implemented for this device, thanks to one of our developers (let's just call him Luden), it's quite stable: even under heavy memory pressure, the system manages to free up the required memory in order to start up Ducati and launch the requested multimedia functionality in a few seconds at most.
Installation
For Marshmallow (6.0) and below, It's important that /system needs to be unmounted before installing the ROM - some recoveries tend to leave it mounted after performing operations on it.
If you're planning to install GApps, be sure to read the second post!
Aside from these, installation and upgrading is no different than on other ROMs.
Problems
While we weren't able reproduce any CMA-related problems, hidden ones can still arise. In most cases, these problems will be either lost Ducati functionality (no multimedia capabilities) until rebooting, or a kernel panic (hard reboot) - upon noticing any of these, be sure to grab a logcat/dmesg and/or last_kmsg and send it to us (preferably by attaching it to a post in this thread).
Other than that, these are bugs we're aware of in the current build:
- The RIL on LTE devices (toro, toroplus) isn't fully working; calls and texts should be OK, but expect no data.
- Sound pops can be observed, mostly when using touch sounds (this is being investigated)
- Some exotic video formats or camera modes might not be perfect - if you notice any artifacts or green spots (the issue that happened in the past), report the details in this thread
- Inverted colors mode not working
- Tricky connection to some 5 GHz Wi-Fi networks
- SELinux is in Permissive mode (this isn't a problem for most people, just mentioned it here as extra information)
If you notice anything else, be sure to report it in this thread. While we're kind of busy, we usually read the thread and acknowledge the bug reports, even if I don't reply directly to them.

GApps
If you want to install GApps, we recommend Open GApps Nano or BaNkS GApps.
An important note: as this is a pure AOSP ROM, installing GApps tends to be problematic: in order to try to avoid installation issues, be sure to install GApps immediately after installing the ROM, before booting the system for the first time. After the initial bootup finished, be sure to go into Settings -> Apps, and grant every permission to every Google application - most importantly, Google Play services.
In the case of an upgrade, be sure to re-install the GApps package, as upgrading wipes /system. You shouldn't need to re-set the permissions afterwards.

One more note. DO NOT set up your Google account until you grant all permissions, otherwise you will be stuck on the initial setup.

You can flash either the latest SuperSU or OpenSource SuperUser to get rooted.
Incredible work! Thank you to ALL the volunteer developers for making this FREE and OPEN SOURCE progress possible! The code is free, but your time is not! Thank you!!!
Out of curiosity, is aosp_mm_tuna_2016-03-12 running DDK1.9 or DDK1.8? I feel like it's 1.9 from your mention of recording artifacts, but I'm not an android developer, so I can't tell.
I'm running this right now, and it's awesome. Marshmallow in general seems to have much better performance than Lollipop on our device. I do miss some custom kernel flags, but I'm sure that'll come with time.
@Ziyan Which recovery do you recommend ?
DRM services not working means also Netflix doesn't work?

Thanks, 3.0 unofficial or your last recovery?
You are a god!
I'm downloading and will be testing this, I'm super excited about this work.
EDIT: So, first thing I've noticed is that the phone is struggling with the configuration in the first boot. Either in the "checking connection" or in the "just a sec..." loading frame, it freezes and doesn't get past it. Is it because of google play services?

Yes Google Play Services can mess it up - I don't recall how, but I managed to press a skip button or something to easily get past it when it started looping. I guess we should add a mini how-to to the OP about it, as I really don't want to hack the framework for this.
Yep, I'm stuck in "just a sec..."
Edit: I restarted the Phone and now it works.
Netflix works too
Big thanks to @Ziyan and all OMAP4 dev for all your contribution so far ! I'll test this immediately [emoji106]

Ah, another thing!
When I flash the rom .zip file with all the partitions in f2fs, it auto changes to ext4 and installs. Maybe I'm being noob using TWRP so I'll say what I did here:
1) Full wipe
2) Convert system to f2fs, convert data to f2fs, convert cache to f2fs
3) Adb push rom zip file
4) Flash it
5) Check partition format, it's all on ext4

There are a couple things going on here. The system ROM is an ext4 image, so it doesn't matter what you format it to, because it'll always become whatever is in the image.
Furthermore, only /data benefits from being F2FS, but it's not you fault for not knowing this because it wasn't mentioned in the documentation!
The other thing is that I don't know of a TWRP build that isn't buggy. When I tried to format to F2FS, it didn't work because my particular version of TWRP had a bug. So maybe your /data format failed for the same reason. I personally do not know what version of TWRP will reliably work for this. But this is a discussion for the TWRP thread.
2) Convert system to f2fs

Don't do this! F2FS is not supported on /system.

WiFi working fine for me on 5GHz as well.
To other people: when this ROM boots, you may see the Google splash screen, then the screen will go black, and the device will act like it has died. It hasn't. Just give it a minute and the regular Android boot animation will appear.
OK i'm trying a reflash now. Complete wipe.
For me all work correctly, no problem with google play store or wifi

[ROM][AOSP][6.0/7.1/8.1 RC/9.0 BETA] Unlegacy Android Project

The Unlegacy Android ProjectIntroduction
Unlegacy-Android started out as the OMAP4-AOSP Project. It was created in late 2015 in order to maintain a clean and organized place for pure AOSP support for various OMAP4 devices, such as the Galaxy Nexus and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 series. Over time this evolved to support more than just these devices, but still maintains its roots of supporting "legacy" devices that no longer receive "official" updates: hence Unlegacy Android was born. In our opinion, these ROMs are how the official updates would look.
On top of AOSP, we only include changes which are necessary to support the hardware, be secure, and get acceptable performance. Current features for hammerhead include:
BFQ IO scheduler (official kernel 3.4 release), set up so GUI processes have the highest priority
Volume button wakeup (setprop persist.wm.volume_wake_screen 1)
Last upstream (kernel/msm) hammerhead kernel tag merged
Charging LED control (setprop persist.sys.led_on_charger 0)
Enhanced backlight map for lower min brightness
Night display blue light filter (GLES-based)
KCAL & PCC color temperature interfaces
Other security patches & minor bug fixes
F2FS support from K4.4 backports
SELinux in Enforcing mode
Installation
It's important that /system needs to be unmounted before installing the ROM - some recoveries tend to leave it mounted after performing operations on it.
If you're planning to install GApps, be sure to read the second post.
Aside from these, installation and upgrading is no different than on other ROMs.
Problems
No known issues on Nougat builds
See post #3 for Oreo/Pie notes
If you notice anything, be sure to report it in this thread. Stability is our main concern. While it may takes some time, I usually read the thread and acknowledge the bug reports, even if I don't reply directly to them.
Downloads
See: http://builds.unlegacy-android.org. Our automated builds ensure that we always have the latest Android security patches merged in, without having to manually start and upload builds
Also, we'll have a built-in OTA updater (just like stock) soon (it's a work in progress).
Features?
There isn't much to say here - this is AOSP, if you install GApps, you pretty much get the same thing that's running on the Nexus devices (see second post). The aim of this project is to create a fast and stable ROM, as close to AOSP as possible without diminishing usability. Occasionally, small non-AOSP features may be implemented, provided there is a clear need and they make sense on hammerhead.

GApps
If you want to install GApps, we recommend micro packages on N builds (e.g., Open GApps), and pico otherwise.
An important note: as this is a pure AOSP ROM, installing GApps tends to be problematic: in order to try to avoid installation issues, be sure to install GApps immediately after installing the ROM, before booting the system for the first time. If you experience any issues with the Google applications, be sure to go into Settings -> Apps, and grant every permission to every Google application - most importantly, Google Play services.
In the case of an upgrade, be sure to re-install the GApps package, as upgrading wipes /system. You shouldn't need to re-set the permissions afterwards.
Stock-like setup
Disable the following built-in (AOSP) apps:
- Android keyboard (once you installed Gboard)
- Browser
- Calculator
- Camera
- Clock
- Email
- Gallery
Install the following apps from the Play store:
- Google Photos (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.photos)
- Calculator (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.calculator)
- Chrome (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.android.chrome)

Rooting
You can flash the latest SuperUser (phh's open source fork), Chainfire's SuperSU, or Magisk to get rooted.
Oreo/Pie Status & CAF Notes
Oreo 8.1 builds are almost bug-free at this point, but still tagged as experimental. While last issues are sorted out, I will trigger manual builds, also published at https://builds.unlegacy-android.org/aosp-8.1/hammerhead.
To my knowledge, these are the remaining issues:
Bluetooth HFP speaker (mono/SCO) output is garbled. This seems related to a more general issue with audio effect/ACDB blobs.
Once all visible issues are fixed, and stability is comparable to Nougat builds, I'll switch on official builds on our Jenkins server.
Pie 9.0 builds are also becoming fully usable. Current builds have the same one remaining HFP bug described above.
Beyond "official" experimental builds, I post personal builds (including CAF experiments) in the hammerhead folder here.
Regarding sources for the WIP CAF kernel-based builds, see https://github.com/airend/android_kernel_lge_hammerhead/commits/tmp/caf+113+common. Corresponding device tree is still in rough shape and not uploaded yet, but assuming everything goes well, it'll replace current device tree when it's ready.
I've used the 05/04 build for 2 days a few weeks ago and it was a great rom.
The only issue I came across back then was that it has the green flickering when recording videos.
It's nice that the project has a XDA thread now and I gonna test this rom asap.
Thanks for keeping our good old Nexus 5 up to date.

Should be fixed on current builds (both green bar, and Google Camera flickering).
have a volume wake option?
Does it have issues with network location (Battery saver location)?
Some AOSP-based ROMs have this issue, so many apps (Chronus, Google Fit, f.lux, Instagram) can't get location.

Cant Install Gapps
I've flashed it for about half a day, and it's very promising, it seems a great ROM!
I've noticed only three defects:
- The blue light filter (Night mode) is missing;
- With stock kernel, SuperSU will be in system mode;
- The Clock app crashes if you try to add another Time zone in the main screen.
Everything else works fine.

I followed the step from another user. I paste all steps.
"The order i flashed everything and how i set up everything was:
1) flash twrp and make sure it sticks
2) boot twrp
3) completly wipe /data, so twrp is able to mount it (you have to format the data partition.)
3.5) DONT reboot
4) flash no-verity-opt-encrypt-6.0.zip, root disabler and magisk
5) boot stock rom and setup everything (initial setup and so on)"
I wiped all data, system, internal, etc... also I formatted /data ....
I'll do some checks and I'll post the results.
Thx in advance

It seems I partially solved. It boots but it stuck at "Checking for updates... This may take a minute or two"
Of course, as i saw, this rom does not include gapps so i'm unable to setup the google account, and that's why I select "set up as new".
Edit: I think i'm going to wait for the google framework included version How is it going?
Stock ROM with google is uploading now..

It would be perfect if the gapps package incuded in the full version comes with some bloat
I mean movies, music, powerpoints, documents from google... For me this is bloat too
5 hours with the full version flashed and at the moment zero problems.
This is an idea..
Iam going to create a tool for deleting the bloatware which you want.
But my focus i on the kernel now.
Thanks for positiv feedback .-)
