[RELEASE] TVMC Custom Build of XBMC for Android (Recommended) - Fire TV Themes and Apps

I just wanted to link everyone to our other release thread here at XDA where we released our custom build of XBMC called TVMC for your enjoyment. It would probably be the best choice for Fire TV users looking to watch free TV with XBMC in our opinion.
Release Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/release-tvmc-custom-build-xbmc-android-t2904878

From the tvmc-13.2-gotham.apk name it seems to be based on GotHam v13.2

But other than repos already installed, any optimizations for aftv ? Or just another clone?

We've decided not to charge for this app anymore, right now you can sideload it, but we'll be adding it back to several app stores for free once we fix some things up.

You can still install regular Gotham. And thinker with that install all you want. TVMC can handle it. But not everybody have settings & addons ready to clone on a new device. And if you just want to install XBMC & start watching things right away. Or you want to jump from device to device without having to clone or read page after page of info/guides. Or if you want to show your mates what XBMC is all about. This is the cat's meow. This makes XBMC accessible to every **** & harry. This is XBMC's version of Ronald M. "Ron" Popeil's "Set it, and forget it!". That's right.. You just "Set it, and forget it!"... :good:

TVMC is an unofficial offshoot of XBMC created by TVADDONS.AG which gives you everything (such as the best addons and customizations) you need preconfigured, ready to use immediately.
If you've ever tried watching your favourite movies or television shows on the internet through streaming web sites, you've probably been irritated at least once or twice by the abundance of ads and popups. You'll now be able to watch online streaming content through a video-on-demand interface, online streaming web sites are converted into simple VOD-style menus, rather than being viewed through a web browser.
You'll be able to watch pretty much anything that's available online, meaning you can watch any movie, television show, or sporting event without any limitations whatsoever. There are a ton of different addons built-in which provide enough content to last a lifetime, and because all it's doing is accessing existing online content (as your web browser would) it's totally legal, unlike apps like Popcorn Time which redistribute content that you're watching.
XBMC is a free open source media player which normally requires manual configuration after installation in order to access online streaming content, a key application feature. It can be sideloaded to your device and will probably be readded to Google Play as a free application in the near future.

TVMC looks interesting and I'll give it a run but I currently use SPMC on my FireTV and it runs flawlessly. Couldn't be happier with it. Sorry you're having issues with it.

My SPMC is stock. No changes made to it. Low techie abilities and high frustration levels won't allow it.

We're glad to hear that so many of you are enjoying it! There will be plenty of improvements and updates made to our upcoming updated release.

Glad to hear it. I was a bit worried that if a new release came out it might be crippled or stifle thanks to the few whiners that made a big deal regarding the PlayStore side of the release. Hope you guys don't listen to the naysayers. And thanks for the update.:highfive: :good: :victory:

I've used XBMC SPMC TVMC and TVMC was just as stable as any. Super easy setup, does what it says. Very impressive. Keep up the good work and everyone should try it.

[WIP] Amazon Jelly Bean for Kindle Fire - Update 8/13/12

I've been working on forward-porting the "Amazon Experience" launcher and app suite from 2.3 to AOSP 4.1.1. This ROM is oriented toward the people that actually prefer Amazon's experience, but want the speed and new features of Jelly Bean. Right now, I have most of the system files cooperating with 4.1.1, but am still running into hurdles with Amazon Video (a known problem) and FC's with Silk Browser and the Launcher.This will be based on pure AOSP with the Amazon features merged in, not on CM10 or any other 3rd party ROM. I am looking for testers, and hopefully I will have something for everyone to play with in the next couple weeks.

Update 8/13/12
I have made progress, but it is still no better than what others have released. I was unaware that this was an option in AROMA. I don't feel comfortable releasing something that is already available from other sources. If I make any more progress I will release, but I have reached the same stopping point of the other attempts. I don't want my rom to be yet another cluttered duplicate.
I wish I could help but not near a reliable wifi for download.

This would be for me. I am willing.
Is there any requirements for being a tester? I'd love to help out and test but I know nothing of coding and of that sort.
Same here. "I volunteer as tribute!" -Hunger Games.
Thanks to those who volunteered. If all goes well, I should have a beta build in the next few days.
Just wondering are you building the ROM too or are you just using Hashcode's ROM as a base.
Could you just port Amazon launcher for now?
veeman: At the moment I am compiling my own, but I may switch to Hash's rock-solid base before my release, if i get his permission of course.
shahabk818: If I have problems porting in the future, I may just release this as a Universal add-on for JB ROMS. It remains to be seen though. There are other ports of the basic framework out there, but they are extremely buggy. If I go that route I want to at least improve the basic stability of it.

where does it say how I can install amazon launcher? should I go through a lot to do that?
By the Way, Did my rom's option inspire you to do this? Because the Glazed JellyBean rom had this option in aroma. It was all working but amazon video and silk browser?
If this is the case, ive been having a fully working rom since weeks ago. Just did'nt update Glazed JellyBean because it died
Honestly i could recreate this rom again in about 30 minutes.

I am hoping that it's better than that. What is out there has a browser that does not work, amazon video that does not work. Also the kindle app is not the one that the kindle fire has and does not have the store that allows the lending library (if you were to temporarily unroot).
It would be amazing to have the same functionality. I don't know if it's possible.

I tried your rom and the Amazon launcher crashed immediately on launch and it had the same errors as the other "launcher" port.
The 1.2 build was glitchy, i said i had one built already not released. I don't think ill release it anyways, i want to see how this one goes.
Hyperrunner: I was not aware that you had the option in your rom! My bad.
Still working on getting Silk to cooperate. One I get that I'll release a beta. No solution in sight for Amazon Video at the moment that doesn't include disabling root, but I'll keep on trying.

As long as it works with voodoo it's no problem. I've never gotten it to work with temp unroot at all, although I've read some have.
Use This it should help you fix amazon video. Silk browser im not completely sure how i got to cooperate but ill look into my kindle folder to see if i can remember what i did.
I flashed jelly bean and I went to the link you gave me... I installed all required apps and this is what i got. the launcher comes up but doesnt show the apps on the screen
Is it possible to use just this screen without the carousel?

I installed it a couple of months ago on my S3. It is definitely cool, but not without issues. Some of the UI is difficult to navigate - seems like it needs a bit more refinement and optimization for a touchscreen. The bigger issue was that even while idle, XBMC will max out cpu. Phone gets screaming hot, and battery plummets faster than I've ever seen with this phone. Perhaps that issue has been fixed in the most current version.

I've never used it.
But XBMC is HUGE in the Home Theater PC (HTPC) world.
So I'd imagine that development will continue pretty well in the Android world as well.
I use JRiver Media Center for all my HTPC music & video stuff. I know JRiver has some Android sort of plugin but I haven't delved into that yet.
I had this and navi x on my apple tv that I used for regular tv for 2 years. I'm more of a navi guy that's what I have on my s3 now.

The newest version of xbmc has fixed a lot of the early bugs. I have it running flawless w/ navix, blue cop and a couple other repos. Takes about 3 mins to set up once you have all the zip files. XBMC in my opinion is by far the best free media app.

XBMC is like very big..., no wait its huge on linux, IOS, windows, raspberry pi, apple tv and htpc, or anything that have a CPU,hdd,ram.
it cuts the cord to cable or dish, hence your wallet likes it. personally i have it on my GNU/linux pc and my apple tv2. but i dont like the idea of watching shows or movies on my mobile computer (GS3) I hope you enjoy XBMC on Android. its good to have choices

Do you use it for music management?
I'm in the market for a music management app for my computer & phone. That also lets me listen to music and watch my HD recordings on my HTPC.
Something that will let me sync playlists and such, as well as play the music.
MediaMonkey has good reviews. But it doesn't do some of the HTPC side of things that I want.
I have JRiver Media Center but it's a PITA to figure out. And there isn't a 100% solution for Android there yet. Just a little gizmo app.
Nevermind I figured it out. It's been a while since my apple tv but u finally have navi x the way it's supposed to be on my s3 I can finally delete amo navi x

Description
PPSSPP, a PSP emulator prototype for Android.
PPSSPP is a prototype PSP* emulator for Android (and other platforms).
It's still in very early stages and does not run many games. It's provided here if you want to try it, so that you can automatically receive updates over time - over time this will probably become a usable emulator.
Please go to http://www.ppsspp.org for more information.
IMPORTANT: Please do not give bad reviews due to low compatibility. It takes time.
NOTE: No games are included with this download, you will have to dump your own PSP games and turn them into .ISO or .CSO files, or simply play free homebrew games, which are available online.

Dragonballz Shin Bodukai 1 & 2 will only work on the lastest builds http://buildbot.orphis.net/ppsspp/index.php
Very cool. I'm always looking into adding emus to my MK808 Arcade setup.
A long time ago I had an xmbc setup with all my roms and it was awesome. I never played much with the Android version but I'm curious if it is just as flexible to use as a front end. My son has autism and has trouble knowing which app to use for what game and browsing through a file explorer for a rom.
Anyway a little off topic but for those that have used this, how does the performance compare to something like a FPse or RetroArch?
Also if anyone knows of a good walkthrough for getting Xmbc setup for games, a link or PM would be appreciated. One of my life goals has always been to create a free standing arcade machine with a slick front end where you can just select a game and it automatically launches the correct associates emu and plays.

ewww.. after gow, I tried only metal gear ac!d, metal gear ac!d 2 and metal gear portable ops. The first 2 run at 60 fps, but they had graphic glitch: I can't see any dialogue\titles and any card.. so these 2 are unplayable too... Finally portable ops: I can't give you a realistic opinion, I have a ripped cso (removed some extra language etc), so maybe an untouched version will have a different result. My cso didn't work well, about 20-25 fps..
(every title run at fullscreen resolution, if I disable Linear Filtering, I get better graphic and lose about 10 % fps)
So I haven't any positive feed, demoralized, I postponed more tests for tomorrow.. But the most important games (for me) don't work properly..
My advice is: if you have some isos stored, try with these yourself.. you can also give a look to the compatibility list in the first post: keep in mind that this list is for the entire project (windows platform too). If you find an interesting game, open its thread (click on the name) and read every comment, some playable titles won't work on the android emulator (and often on every platform)

HTC is shutting down support for the Sense TV app on the 30th of this month (April). For better or worse, eventually you will have to use Peel or a different third party app.

But the app won't work after April 30th.
Exactly, that's the sad part.

well, htc will stop service for tv app , you would still be able to use the tv app as a remote , though the content will not be updated anymore...
I started using "Smart IR Remote - AnyMote" a while back. It's not free, but it's well worth the money. Controls anything IR, from TVs to air conditioners.

Been using it for about a year, it's incredible and you can set up some really advanced widgets too, they even have a default one that muted my TV when my phone rings. Not cheap though
Anyway I can keep using the app on the HTC m8? I hate peel, it doesn't work at all.

TV app discontinued in April, You have to use Peel or some other Ir blaster app
Yeah I know that, was hoping against hope that a previous version would let me get past the initial setup to the remote control functionality. Really not a fan of Peel. Maybe they'll bring it back to android as they did on the windows phone? Did some complaining on twitter but I'm no't holding my breath...

NEW YouTube for Android TV 2.0?

Has anyone yet figured out how to either find or port the "NEW YouTube for Android TV 2.0" x86 APK to an ARM APK? We have waited over a year for a new version, yet its only for x86. It is disturbing that this new YouTube version is not available on the SHIELD TV almost immediately.

You've waited a year, you can wait some more. APKmirror is probably the place where it will show up first.

Yeah lets hope so. And no I didn't wait a year. I flashed Full Android on mine so I wouldn't have to wait for newer YouTube versions any more. It was the only reason I went to FULL Android because the Youtube for Android TV was really showing its age and crashing all the time. You pay a premium for a premium device, so you should expect a premium experience in return. Otherwise they are not doing their jobs.
What's interesting is that this youtube 2.0 UI is exactly how youtube looks like on my old and loud Xbox360!!

Yeah some say it looks like the HTML Smart TV version below. I'm not so sure until I actually see it on my SHIELD TV.
https://www.youtube.com/tv
So it can't be ported to arm format?
I have this new format on my Smart TV, and it may well do away with that crappy Red Bar that pops up when you try to pause on something. But that said, the new Layout sucks donky balls. And Google can take their sweet gentels with porting it to the Shield.
Though I have to say (Even given the decentralized nature), of my Smart TV), I'm kinda shocked the OEM has even botherd. Considering the TV was sold in 2015. And, picked up about a year ago on clearance. But it was hard to say no to a 50" 3D 4k LED set. Even if the Smart TV bits of it tended to also suck.

Good question. Maybe it is exclusive to the Nexus Player. Or they are just testing it on the NP before releasing it to 3rd party devices. Who knows? Without an official statement of what's going on we can only speculate. I guess Android TV must not be very big or as important of a platform to warrant updates.
apk for arm device is available on apk mirror (v2.00.17):

Someone was looking at this threat actually was looking for some tutorial in how to port it, but google has done the work for us, we should thank them
Yeah they were working on it all along but released the x86 version first for some reason. Maybe the arm versions had a must fix first before release bug?

Really I don't like very much this new version, I don't know about you, but the app crashes when you try to type anything on video search.
No crash for me
But option to change quality video is gone:crying:
The user reviews are in the toilet as well. I'm no longer in a hurry to try it. However I can't get last year's YouTube version to not crash either. It's easily the #1 most unstable app I use by far.

I updated it and hated it and immediately rolled back to the old one. My problem is I got 2 Youtube accounts associated with my Google account. My primary account I created about 10 years ago with all my subscriptions and the G+ one it forced me to create a few years back, which I don't use.
Under the old app, it allowed me to select the account I wanted to use:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Under the new account, it won't allow me to select the account I want, and only shows the G+ account saying my other account isn't available.
I downloaded and installed it and I hated it as well... There's no rolling text on the thumbnails so you have to open each video just to read the full title... no comments as well, no add to watch later no anything good... rolling back to the old version as this one sux.

New app is ugly and slow (everything seems to require more clicks to get there).
Besides the ability to select resolution being removed, many Sony TVs lost the ability to play 4k (they locked it to a max of 1440p).
This version is going to need some work.

Do we really believe Google will be working on it??? :/
Yeah, and not only that, when I updated to the new Youtube app it used my "original" Youtube account before Google bought them out. So hundreds of my subscriptions and all my proper recommendations were missing and I couldn't recognize my own Youtube channel. It was like starting all over again on Youtube from scratch. And worse still, it wouldn't even offer me the ONLY account I ever use, yes the same one I have been using every day since Google bought Youtube, it was completely missing as an account option.
So I was forced to reset back to the original Youtube app and it immediately offered me and connected to the proper account. Is it really this hard for a multi Billion dollar corporation such as Google to code these apps?
I sort of meant someone HERE might take a look under the hood.
