Using a Wired Xbox 360 Controller with the Note 2 - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone been able to get a wired Xbox 360 controller working with the Note 2 (using USB/BT Joystick Center)?
I'm running Cyanogenmod 10.2 and using USB/BT Joystick Center to map the controller buttons.
USB/BT Joystick Center does recognize my controller (I'm using an OTG cable to connect it to my phone) and I'm able to map the buttons on the controller but the app restarts itself and drops the connection to the controller every few minutes when the controller is plugged in.
I know the cable is connected securely because when I wiggle the OTG cable Joystick Center does not see the controller as disconnected.
I would email the dev of the app but based on his responses in the app reviews he probably wouldn't be of any help.
Also, I have installed different ROMS (Slimkat) to see if it may have been a bug with Cyanogenmod but I had the same problem with USB/BT Joystick Center restarting every few minutes when the controller was plugged in.

360 controller on note8

Hey dudes,
I have a wired 360 controller and tried plugging it into my note 8.All I get is a blinking green circle on the controller and nothing on the note. Anyone know how to get it working? I'm using an OTG micro to usb cable.

I thought that although the PS3 controler is plug and play with andoid, the 360 controller is not, or at least not very easily set up.
I use my PS3 controller both as a plug and play controller and as a bluetooth controller (when I can be bothered to set it up, loading the address into it can be a bit of a pain since I use it with my PS3 as well).

[HOWTO] Using a PlayStation 3 Controller for Ouya

First of all, this is NOT my How To. It belongs to James Andrew Coote and the original Post about this can be found here: How to Pair a PS3 Controller
Maybe the Mods will find this Post useful for the users and will stick it, or it will be deleted :/
I thought that this is a very common question and i didn't see a "sticky-post" about this.
Here we go:
1. Turn your OUYA on and make sure you have at least one OUYA controller paired
2. Plug your PS3 Controller into your OUYA using a mini-USB to standard USB cable
3. Hold down the home button on your PS3 controller. This should take you back to the OUYA home screen. Make sure the PS3 controller is working by using it to navigate the menus. You will also note that the OUYA controller has been disconnected and won't pair. This is because plugging in the PS3 controller on USB turns off bluetooth.
4. To solve this, first completely power down your OUYA. You can do this by either holding down the power button on the top of the console for 5 seconds (recommended) or unplugging the power cable.
5. Unplug the PS3 controller from the mini-USB wire, and unplug the same wire from the OUYA.
6. Turn the OUYA back on. When it finishes booting up, you should see the usual pairing screen appear
7. Hold down the home button on the PS3 controller as you would with a normal OUYA controller to pair it. Other OUYA controllers should now also pair

And please do not forget:
It should be noted that not all OUYA games support the PS3 controller. However, it should allow you at a minimum to navigate the OUYA menu

Xbox controllers are not Bluetooth. They won't work without the USB wireless device.
I've tested this and it requires the cable at first to grab its MAC address and setup the wireless pairing. The controller only connects with to a device with a specific MAC address. Even on Android, you have to connect it up to your PC first before it will pair.
This is pretty easy though. Connect with USB, reboot, and pair.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
Anyone else have there ps3 controller red lights keep flashing and not sync with the ouya at all?
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire using xda app-developers app
Just tried it and it worked thanks
My red lights always flash, even after paired and when using. That is normal. Make sure you hook it up to USB first, make sure you can control it using Wired, then pull the power from the Ouya and remove the USB. When it boots back up, at the Pairing screen, you can pair the PS3 wirelessly.
Then it works just like the Ouya controller. You can jump in any time.
Anyway to turn off the PS3 controller once it's connected without manually turning off the OUYA? That seems to be the only way other than going into BT settings and disconnecting it.

Note 8.0 with the PS3 Gamepad

Hello guys,
I can't get my PS3 Gamepad to work fully with my Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 3G Version. I have an OTG cable and a standart USB cable. The tablet is recognizing the OTG cable, but when I connect the controller and hit the PS button just the digital navigation buttons are working. I can hit X O square and what ever I want, no button is working.
The device is not rooted and it's running on the latest OTA update.
Greetings
Eric
I'm not using a wired controller. You can use a wireless controller with the Sixaxis app on the play store though. That's what working for me right now.

Note 8 might not be supporting game controllers natively fully by itself, It did not work with my 360 wired controller either , however using an app from play store made it work (no root required).
try the USB/BT joystick center app demo from play store and see if that it works for you.

using a game controller for mouse functionality...

I am currently using the Sixaxis app with sony ps3 dualshock controller to control my fire tv - it works great - has support for home button, mouse mode and can be customized very well.
My only problem is that, the controller will not charge no matter what - from the fire tv directly, or when connected to pc, or from a wall charger.
The only way to charge it is to reset it (via the small pinhole in the back), or connect it to ps3 - this will make it lose the pairing with the fire tv and it will start charging again. I will have to set the bluetooth address again via the SixaxisPairTool from PC to get it to pair with the fire tv again.
My first question is - does the charging work for you after you have used the SixaxisPairTool from PC?
I also have a gamestop red samurai v2 controller. This pairs and works with the fire tv without any special app. However, misses mouse control.
I went through the threads here and understand that by creating a custom keyboard.kl file we can get the behavior we want for that controller. Can that idea be used to control mouse behavior as well? Any pointers would be welcome.
Thanks.

hah, so you're here as well... I also have/had ps3 controller paired with sixaxis, but I haven't used it for a while and ATM does need to be charged with actual PS3.
So, to answer your question PS3 controller did work(charged via phone charger and xbox one usb) for me after it was paired with sixaxis for long time until eventually I stopped using it and then ran out of juice. Now it needs PS3 to charge again (maybe once), before I can reuse wall charger. Problem is, I don't have PS3 on me.
yep. the ps3 controller with sixaxis app works so beautifully with both regular apps and side loaded apps (that require mouse), it is a shame that it cannot be charged.
i have it setup such that the right analog is mouse (always in mouse mode), left analog is rew/ff/prev/next, d-pad is d-pad, L1 and R1 are left and right mouse, etc.
the problem is the sixaxis tool works only with sony ps3 controller. is there any other app like this that will do the same with any controller? thanks.

well there are xbox 360 and xbox one controllers "how to" here, but I haven't tried them since both somewhat requires usb cable or dongle because they are not bluetooth based. and just repeating myself here, but ps3 controller does charge using other options and NOT ps3 only. BUT if it dies, then PS3 is required to recharge because you'll have to reset it.
ok. i am not sure why the charging does not work for me though. it won't even charge from PC once the SixAxisPairTool changes the mac address.
i saw the tincore app and i am planning to try it today with my gamestop controller.
How did you configure the sixaxis controller app? Whenever I try to connect the controller it never finds it even if i have the correct bluetooth address paired.
SUCCESS with tincore app. configuration is a bit difficult due to access via the fire tv remote and due to some menu items not showing up fully. however, once configured, the gamestop red samurai v2 remote works flawlessly - for necessary buttons as well as mouse.
i cannot get it to auto apply on restart and will investigate that later. for now, i am happy . thanks.

not sure what you are missing, but you can try this:
1. start the sixaxis server in fire tv and get the bluetooth address from bottom left
2. use the SixaxisPairTool in PC to set that address on the controller (for good measure you can reset the controller first by the pinhole in the back)
3. now pressing the glass PS button on controller should pair it

Bluetooth Controller

Has anyone found or have any experience with a compatible Bluetooth gaming controller?
Yes they all are terrible on android unless rooted. PS4 Controller works nicely with an OTG Cable and a controller mount mod, for your phone to attach to your controller as if it were a dock.
Bluetoof is buggy and lags after 30 seconds.
