Thanks for the Thanks

Great work once again. My wife refuses to go to custom ROMs and this week I quickly rooted her phone and froze updates so she wouldn't lose the ability to do so in the future. Only downside was not getting the latest update. Then here you are solving that issue for me. It's like you were in my head or something! :silly:
Newbie type question though - will data be effected by flashing this or can i just flash on top stock and retain all her data, apps, accounts and settings?
Thanks

This may be a stupid question, but If I run this to update from MDL will it wipe my apps and have to re-install them and will I loose my customizations to make google wallet and Hangouts video chat over the network work?

Well good morning to me.
Thank you Scott!!

worked great on stock rooted with TWRP, just had to remember to flash loki-doki

Wow, thanks, this should be good, I knew to wait until a professional got a hold of it: Thanks serious.

Early thanks to you also.
Now let me ask the stupid question, if I flash this, can we still have the ability to run custom roms after? meaning, we won't be locked into MF3 will we.

Quick question / curious observation -- on the screenshot, I noticed you have MF3 as the build version, but MDL as the modem still.
Did you revert back to MDL, or does this package not flash/include the MF3 modem?

Word!
I actually had this done the about an hour after the OTA was out...
Long story short... I had a bad binary updater file that caused me to pull my already thin hair out. Then another guy, jetlitheone, gave me a really simple idea... Try another updater binary... and... BOOM!
SO credits to jetlitheone for making me not go insane on this build.
Funny thing... No ****... It was the same binary I used on every version of the S4 ROMS I have made before this one... I dont get it... But its now in the past, lol :silly:

No, this is JUST the ROM, no firmware, no radios, etc.
You can flash this on the MDL firmware just like any other ROM and swap back to any other ROM.
BUt this thing, cleaned up, is HELLA SMOOTH!
Even stock rooted untweaked is smooth! I was impressed! I was about to chuck the S4 after using my HTC One... BUt now I will keep both

See above, just the ROM. You do your own modem.
Do not flash any of the SBL's are in another post. They are simply not needed for this ROM. I made it work with the old firmware... Which is the most safe route to go!!!
You can however flash the MF3 radio! Heard it runs good on this base according to a couple guys in my CleanROM thread.

Face unlock doesn't work with any ICS custom rom.

Hey everyone. I have a small problem. I have tried countless of custom roms on my Xperia Play. However, none of them seem to let me use face unlock. I've made sure I'm using the recommended kernel and most up to date version of the rom. I have also used CWM to flash GApps-ICS and Gapps-ICE-facelock, but still I am met with "Face Unlock couldn't start".
At the moment, I am using the Ice Cream Pureness rom and the LuPuS-iCs-BeTa_v3 kernel (which is recommended for this rom)
I have searched the forums here, but found nothing that works. If anyone could please tell me what I'm doing wrong, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks
atm i use cyanogenmod 9 rc 2 with the cyanogemod 9 kernel, i can select the option too use face unlock although im not sure if it works (i don't have my phone with me right now) i will test it when i find my phone
Works just fine on GlazedICS for me.
i found it! my phone won't recognize my face but thats probably because the amount of dust infront of the frontfacing camera. it should work just fine on yours.

You don't need to install the face unlock addon anymore, try downloading the latest ICS gapps and cm9 based rom.
Weird.. I've been on the same rom, still is actually n the only problem i've had is in-compatible games, messed up gamepad(needless to say), n portable wifi hotspot. Its still in ver.1. So prob/bugs are there. Mybe u could try the new lupus ics beta v4. See if that help.

I don't want to use CM9. I like Ice cream pureness because of its UI and performance. It states in the thread that face unlock should work, but for me it doesn't.

Hey, thanks for the input. I have updated to LuPuS-iCs v4 BFS Version, but am still unfortunately getting the error. Do you think installing the CFS version would work? I really don't know the difference between them.
Also, is there anything like an error log for face unlock that I could post here?

Ok. 62 f/w is a stock firmware that end with 62 in the build number. U can find'em in the dev stickies section. And its a must use/requirment firmware for installing Ics. It got a lot of optimization on it. Yeah it dosen't say in the op. But if u run all the discussion in the thread n mybe u should, u'll find every1 is talking bout it there.

When u flash a full .ftf using flashtool everything will be wipe clean. It givs u the factory stock system looks etc. After booting to the stock f/w u can start flashing any rom u want. Mybe u should check a guide on how to flash stock f/w, coz its like "fallback" whenever u hit a wall n don't know what else to do.

[ROM] Ubuntu Developer Preview (Toroplus port)

Props goes to eng.stk for how to unofficially flash the GSM images. I have modified his quote to include this devices links, and Im' sorry for not asking to quote him. The only credit I take is for modifying one line to make it flash to our devices. The rest goes to the UbuntuOS team and eng.stk

For people wondering about install (tried with TWRP):
1. Nandroid backup
2. Factory Reset
3. Grab toroplus_ubuntu.zip and quantal-preinstalled-phablet-armhf.zip
4. Flash toroplus_ubuntu.zip
5. Flash quantal-preinstalled-phablet-armhf.zip (this one will take a while, grab some coffee :laugh
6. Reboot (screen will go black but after a few seconds Ubuntu is up)
7. Profit :highfive:
This install didn't wiped my sdcard. I just restored my TWRP backup after a short Ubuntu testdrive.
If you are paranoid, just copy your stuff from SDCARD to your PC before flashing.

Quote modified to include CORRECT links for our build. I left the rest in tact.
The only thing I did was modify the line so that the zip would be willing to flash to the toroplus. It does not have CMDA/LTE connection, but it does flash and work on WIFI just fine. With it's limited uses ATM, I believe that getting working radios would be useless, and I only have a Verizon toro (though I know for a fact that this boots). Try it and see what I mean. Do not wipe system, or it will not boot.
Thanks to warp64 for being the first tester to upload a picture.

If I can get a toro phone working, I'll come try this with a helper, but I don't own this, and can't manage to get the toro working (Even though I ported a GSM android rom to verizon, no clue). It could be the base image. I'll work on it further once we get a more fully functioning GSM release. It's good for all developers now thaugh as long as you don't need CDMA features as WIFI still works fine.

It will run somewhat on the Sprint Samsung Nexus! Was able to connect to my homes network. Also was able to log in to facebook . Made a backup of my CM10.1 with CWM. It's not gonna be much better untill they have a full release. It's not open source quite yet, nor is it ready to use even on GSM. Once the full release and source comes out, we will all have a field day. I MAY (no promise) be able to get calls/texts working on this after their porting guide comes online. I may have just done something dumb. I'll keep the first post up to date.

It is fun to wipe your device for broken isnt it!
Wow. That was pretty slick. Kinda difficult to get used to the gesture based ui. Its really snappy even though its still got its bugs.
I can't wait until the full release and support for CDMA networks.
And the sidebar dock like Ubuntu os is really nice too.
Definitely something different which is good. And even without cell connection, I like it better than iOS. HA
And coming from the Epic Touch, a 500mb ROM didnt even hit me as being huge. Most touchwiz ROMs are close to that size.

Either way, restoring was absolutely painless, so I don't know what toity mean by broken...

[KERNEL] Stock Touchwiz MDB - SetUID Restriction Removed

I am not responsible for anything you do with your device. Anything you or someone else flashes or modifies on your device or someone else's device is not my fault or responsibility to fix (or break).
What is this?
SGH-M919V_JB_Opensource.zip [MDB Version] compiled with the defconfig grabbed from May 7th OTA - M919UVUAMDL. You can grab the source like I did, from opensource.samsung.com. Defconfig was the only change, since CONFIG_SEC_RESTRICT_SETUID was already commented out from the source linked previously. Modules are also included from this kernel source, same link as previously as well.
Flash this if you want to have a non-SetUID restricted kernel compatible with the May 7th OTA - M919UVUAMDL and you don't want to flash the old boot.img which is done in my root thread.

Instructions
Flash in the Custom Recovery of your choice.
If you aren't already rooted, flash a Root.zip such as SuperuSu by Chainfire or Superuser by Koush.
Reboot and enjoy.
Tested On
M919UVUAMDB
M919UVUAMDL

SDCard's using exFat will not work with this kernel.
Flasher updated, now will not remove all modules in system, but will just overwrite the ones made by Samsung Open Source. This way you don't need to flash exFat modules separately. You can still do so if you want.
The exFat kernel module is not open source and thus is not included in this. You can flash this to get exFat working if it is not..

I know you're busy. But could you explain the advantage of having a "non-SetUID restricted kernel" and "don't want to flash the old boot.img"?

"non-SetUID restricted kernel"
Being able to have root on the latest firmware.
"don't want to flash the old boot.img"
You can already root the latest firmware by running the ORIGINAL kernel that came with the phone.
Also, just updated OP tested on original firmware.
nice work man...
just curious if you ever tried to mee with clock speed on our s4s????

It's already overclocked to 1.9 Ghz... I wouldn't be one to push it further.

Just got my s4 yesterday and have already done the OTA update, sorry if I'm being redundant here but just want to double check the procedure just to make sure I don't have any issues.
Do I root the phone using matt's " [INFO][HOWTO][ROOT] May 7th OTA - M919UVUAMDL" thread and after completion flash this kernel?
Thanks, just want to get it right the first time.

I flashed it about an hour ago and it seems quite responsive (running Virgin 1.3). I did get a FC when I opened Settings once, but not the second time. I'll report back in a couple days or so of testing. Looking for battery life as well.

no. let your GE ROM boot first. then reboot to recovery and flash. wipe cache and dalvik cache.
it is compatible with any I9505 running a Google Play Edition build, including SGH-M919

at the moment i don't think anyone has an official build except for the GPE phones. there is a full dump but i don't think it has been made Odin flashable yet. when this happens, then yes, i believe you will be able to.

Last night I got 0.4%hr battery drain, 96.3% deep sleep, after 8 hours, with wifi on 24/7 and my VoIP app running (Sipdroid). This is on par with the best I've had to date. ROM is running quick and snappy so far with no problems at all.
More later.
Night #2 dropped to 0.3%hr drain with the same specs. Really nice kernel. No problems noted.
And night #3. Just for giggles I turned off my VoIP app and got 0.1%hr battery drain over 8 hours, and 99.4% deep sleep. Excellent.
Final post on this kernel.

thanks. i never use TB. when i flash a new ROM, i make sure i'm at home on wifi so everything restores from the market on its own. takes me a few min or so to set my phone back up.
4.3, imo, is more polished now. the lock ring is fixed/centered, less TW stuff, and the kernel seems to be performing better (stock vs stock) to name a few things i've noticed.

GPS problems 4.4.4

I've been using c-rom for a while. I wanted to upgrade when some kernels started dropping after 9-10-14, but it seems like every ROM I try, I can not get my gps to lock. No matter what. I tried upgrading my modem to nd8 but that hasn't helped either.
I'm at a loss now. Any tips or anyone else experiencing this?
Sent from the MotorCity
Thanks for the help lol
Only ROM that works with gps locking for me is dirty unicorns 7.8. I'm on nd8 modem also.

I'm having the same problem. I'm on MK3 and it has been a hit or miss with getting GPS to lock. I can get Slim rom and Octo to lock but it looks as if anything that is based off cyanogenmod kernel does not work. I was wondering if it's related to MK3, Or I needed to update my bootloader, Odin the new stock rom with Knox or something. I've tried updating PRL and profile, tightened all the screws but to no avail. Its Driving me nuts.
Never had this problem, but i do remember reading from someone that they fixed their issue by turning off location services under google settings?
You may also want to check under app manager, and uninstall any updates to maps?

I'm in the same boat. GPS works for me on 4.4.2 Touchwiz but when I tried out a CM-11 based 4.4.4 ROM, I can get search results and stuff like that but I can't drive with it at all.

You can try this, but you'll have to flash back to Touchwiz to do it.
Calibrating Compass
1) Go to the test menu page by dialing* # 0 * #
2) Press Sensors (Never press Sleepmode!)
3) At the bottom of the page is compass and the number must be 3. That means you have calibrated the compass by 3 axis....
4) If you have number 0,1 or 2 just move your phone in the air until you get 3...

I was having the same issue in SPIRIT AOSP ROM but did the following and my GPS is now fixed.
Did what Bilgeryan said in another thread (see quote below) then Downloaded app called GPS STATUS and did COMPASS calibration (under the wrench ) and Calibrated pitch and roll. :

That and signal problems are widely known issues on AOSP ROMs that aren't for AOSP devices. AOSP's RIL stack just can't hold a signal as well as the software that was made for the device.

Yeah I try going back every now and again, but I usually get 1x signal and no GPS with AOSP so I think I've officially given up on this device. Kudos to those that don't have problems, wish I could say the same but it's Touchwiz only for me until I get a new device.

Download the latest stock .tar file and use Odin. It will update your bootloader and modem. FYI.... I did this a couple weeks ago and it didn't work with any CM bases ROMS. GPS not working is a know problem with AOSP on the S3.
