(Factory Stock) If AdamOutlers Odin Package Fails. Restore from soft/hard brick. - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Android Development

If you did something stupid or flashed incompatable kernel with a rom and then tried to return to stock by following Adam's guide and it completed but get's stuck at the [email protected] screen and you think you are screwed well you aren't you just have to use kies but try this first: "Usually when you are stuck on the AT&T screen after Odin, you do not even have to use kies.
A lot of the time if you just boot into factory recovery and factory reset from there it will boot up fine after that. Actually this works just about every time" Thanks to "jthrasher47" for that. If that doesn't work for you than continue by using kies. And if all else fails we have one last option thanks to "ou812bkewl" It seems to be a last resort and probably the most not noob friendly but a very well written guide, here is the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43512474
Here is a guide:
First this will most likely work for all Gs4's Canadian and all But not tested. I used on my [email protected] and It restores it back to factory stock no issues whatsoever. Also I have noticed that you might not even have to put your GS4 into "Download Mode" Just plug in and turn it on if you have really f'd up your phone and then just follow these simple directions.
1.Write down your Model and Serial which is found behind the battery on the sticker.
2.Plug Phone into a Good USB with a Good Cable and start up phone in download mode ( Power button Plus Volume down, then hit Volume up to continue.
3.Download and install Kies http://storagecow.tk/index.php?dir=Xda%2FJohnMonsour%2FKies+SoftBrick+Recovery%2F
4.Start Kies and Click Tools-> Firmware upgrade and initilazation up in the top tabs.
5.Type in model of your phone for example if on US AT&T: SGH-I337 ( all in capital letters) click OK, that you wrote down from the first step and click OK
5.There will be info about firmware click OK
6.Info about software version. Put your phone in download mode by pressing volume down key, home button and power button then connect to PC using orginal USB cable, click OK
7. Follow info on screen.
8. Phone will reboot by itself when all is done correctly.
Good luck Hope this help's some people that have soft or hard bricked.

Hmmmmmm Thanks, wish I would have tried that. But I couldn't even get into the factory recovery at one point in time and this has almost worked in every situation. But next time I odin back after trying some crazy stuff and I get stuck at that screen I'll give it a try. Thanks.

If this doesn't work, I have a boot loader Odin package here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43512474 I couldn't get Kies to fix me at all. It would fail every time.

Thanks for the thread OP. This is very useful info for those that soft-brick their phones.
I soft-bricked my SG4 using a hacked I9505 image (that had the apps-SD update) + I337M kernel & tried to move back to a factory image via odin roms (used the official roms & kernel from sammobile). Was nasty - tried everything to get unbricked from AOSP/ to stock roms to saved nandroids. All left the phone dead except for recovery & download modes.
I had actually found this procedure on my own before seeing this thread, but it was pretty much step-by-step the same thing I did. After doing this, my phone booted to the same state it was in when I brought the phone home from the Virgin store -- including all the 'official' tags showing on the download mode.

Thanks for the confirmation and yeah hopefully this will help some people. If not we have a few options to try and they are all in this one place.

well, i now find myself needing to recover from a botched AROMA install using an I9505 ROM; device froze and rebooted before loki patch was installed. tried this method and the ODIN method using files from SamMobile but neither worked. any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks!
UPDATE: ODIN worked after i uninstalled KIES software, friggin driver issue .

Glad you got it working!

Always a Pleasure.
Alright I'm about to write a in depth tutorial to you restore to stock on MF3 and an extensive how to guide. Can't believe this thread got dug back up..... I'm guessing 4.3 is out on [email protected] again over kies and OTA... If you have MF3 or MDB or MDL then you need to freeze the proper files asap before your device downloads and installs the new update. Idk though.... Sorry Rantoca? What base-band are you running and what did kies restore your phone to? MDL??? Or the New MJ9? Correct me if I am wrong But I think 4.3 official is MJ6 Or MJ9????? Right Anyways? Is it out once again. And instead of pulling up old threads. Just hit the Thanks under peoples Usernames instead of posting a comment. For future reference. And you are welcome. MF3 User's Do not install the new 4.3 as we are currently working on a g-fuse reset downgrade method. Or slowly but surly we are getting to the bottom of the encryption scheme. Now I am at 9457 Commits..... LOL. My friend has his jtag unit and we have two locked versions. Guess which variants? Anyone???? Big Red and Orange and Blue... HAHA. Then a Pink Variant and Also your favorite mullti-flavored Popsicle variant with a hint of vanilla.

Nevermind Read in your threads that you got stuck on the splash screen after flashing kit-kat. So Kies still has 4.2.2. AMDL.... But not for long. You are extremly lucky that they pulled the 4.3 Update off of Kies and OTA or you would have been up the creek..... I"ll Update that thread is obsolete and post a Multi-Recovery guide that uses Heimdall and Odin 3.04 My favorite version. On we go!!!

thanks
i was running on MDL and i was like crazy reading how i can get it back
maybe this one is the 3rd thanks for your info but help me a lot :good::good:

Telus S2 X Screen lock

Hi,
I have a telus galaxy SII X and my kids play on it and changed the screen password. I am not able to get in, I have tried to use ODIN and re-flash the default telus ROM SGH-T989D_TLS_T989DTLKJ3, but it always comes up with the screen password.
Is there a way to completely wipe it as I am not able to get into the phone. Any suggestions how I could bypass the password and if not I am willing to competely wipe/reset it to factory default.
You may want to get into recovery mode and wipe the device.

I'm a bit baffled because ODIN completely re-writes all of the firmware and software. There should be no way that it persists through ODIN. Now, the only suggestion I can offer would be to wipe your SD-card, do a factory data reset in CWM and then ODIN again. If that doesn't work then there is something seriously screwed up because that will mean that you have wiped literally all the memory on the phone.
Thanks, I will give your suggestion a try and will post back the result.
Flash original odin, then update odin...

any results?
This board would be so much better if people would post results after attempting to fix their devices.

His kids changed the passcode, really?
First of all I appologise for the delay in responding.
I find it insulting that someone would say i stole the phone without any cause. I had grave shift work and did not get round to trying out the suggested fixes.
No it does not work for me. I am new to this, I have been using ODIN3 v1.85 and it sees the phone no problem, i use the PDA option to push the reovery.tar, which successfully does it stuff and reboots the phone and takes me back to the login screen. After this I do not know what to do, I press the power and volume down button and it takes me to the download ODIN screen again, but i do not see any options to install rom.
I read somewhere that after flashing the recovery.tar, I need to flash the clockworkmod.tar to get the option to install rom. This is the part that does not work for me, if I use ODIN3 v1.85 to flash the phone gives me firmware mismatch error, connect to Kies to recover firmware. I have to flash the recovery.tar to get rid of the firmware error message.
I also tried to use another ODIN multi downloader v4.28, but this one does not even see the phone.

Hi. Use my guide to flash the stock telus rom which is listed in my thread. Don't worry about the rooting part. Just follow the part where it shows you how to flash back the stock Telus rom with odin (Telus Goodies). PM me if you need help.
http://androidforums.com/galaxy-s2-...d-ultimate-root-optimization-guide-steps.html
I want to thank everyone who provided very useful help especially blue1k, the guide was awesome, really great for a new guy like me. I guess the whole problem was that I didn't know the difference between download and recovery mode. Most of the information on the net shows you how to get to download mode, but not how to get to recovery mode, especially the key combo needed to get there.
I finally got into recovery mode using the guide and reset/clean cache and then used ODIN to flash the telus ROM and it worked.
Once again, I would like to thank members of this forum, you guys are truly very talented; I had been very frustrated for over 3 weeks googling and just could not find clear cut instructions.
Again, sorry for posting so late, I know it can be frustrating giving advice but not getting any timely feedback or no feedback at all.
Blue1k, I just made a donation on your site as a token of thanks

SGH-I747 Bricked to hell and Back again!!

SOooO I'm just some tinkering nut that likes to check out all of the roms out there for my devices. Flashing is worse than crack for me. I have bricked de-bricked and re-bricked this poor little galaxy and updated to 4.3 and downgraded back to 4.0 all to make it look like it just came out of the box again. nice clean bootloader. A factory rom. 0 flash count which is simply nutz since this thing should be a stripper I have flashed it with so many Roms and Mods. I have pretty much every file you can think of for this device on my computer and I am more than happy to share my information and tips with the community here at xda.
If you think you need some assistance and don't want to spend 3days hopped up on pizza and mt.dew searching every inch of the forums looking for answers feel free to ask me and I can try my best to help out.
I have almost every custom Rom out for this device.
I have Custom Kernels from chapters 4.0.3 - 4.1.1 - 4.3 - 4.4
I have Debrick Images from the first three chapters will make one for 4.4 when I see a stable Rom
I have Stock Rom Files
I have updated Stock Rom Files.
I have updated rooted no knox Files
I have a crap load of continuous hours of searching breaking and Fixing this poor little thing.
I would have made a Tutorial page but it looks like there are plenty on the forums. I KNOW I've read them all:silly:
so I would rather put my knowledge to use in letting you simply ask me a question and I will reply as quickly as possible.
I know its going to sound nubcake. Buuut.... this is my daily device and I know how frustrating it can be when you have made one of them fatal mistakes and your device goes black or won't flash your new custom rom you want to test out.

If you go from the 4.3 bootloader to a previous one, you will brick your device via an e-fuse. You shouldn't need to revert to an older bootloader anyway unless for a specific rom. If that is the case, you are better off waiting until the developer catches up.

Sudden Death AT&T GS3
Hi,
I have an AT&T Samsung Galaxy S3. I was running CM11 nightlies. It was working perfectly fine for all these days. Couple of days back it suddenly died. The phone hasn’t been switching on back since then. I tried putting it on full charge. Whenever I pull out the battery and reinsert it, it vibrates, The LED comes on and the Samsung screen comes on for a second and turn turns off again. I cannot access the recovery or download modes through the key combinations. I also tried going into download mode using a Jig. I have to remove the battery and reinsert it. The Jig did work and the phone did go into download mode but, only for a second and then turns off. I’m not sure what exactly the issue is.
I would be very grateful if you could help me find a solution.
Thanks.

once again not for your device but scroll down to stock firmwares and READ the whole guide. There is a kid that makes a video some where arround here as well. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2369125 you need a 16gb class 10 sdcard or larger as well for this
Disk Space Back
I had trouble getting my max disk space after I did the debrick trick. So i'm going to shoot a quick tip to get all your space back.
go to your windows start menu and in the search type diskpart and hit enter.
in the command line type "list disk" no quotations and enter.
You should see your hard drive and any other storage devices connected in you computer. Determine which one is the sd card.
Next in the command line hit select disk x. x represents your sdcard.
last is clean disk in command line and your sd card has all its space but you must reformat it how ever you choose.
I just used sd formater.
hope that helps some peeps if so hook a noob up with some thanks clicks. :good:

Can you help me with this? I copied my thread :3

*I bought this off a friend of mine.*
All he told me was that he tried installing a rom and he thinks that he installed a rom for a different model S3.
What Happens/What I Did?
1. I tried to plug it into the computer and the computer doesn't show that anything plugged in, the S3 doesn't turn on. NOTHING.
2. I connected the phone to the PC without the battery inside and the phone responds with one RED light at the top left of the phone. Nothing shows up on my computer still, not even that the phone was connected NOTHING.
3. I bought a JIG device and tried plugging it into my phone and it doesn't work. (I previously tested this JIG on another samsung device and it worked)
4. I tried doing the method to use a 16gb SD card and downloading an i747m debrick IMG and using Win32FlashTool to copy it to my SD Card. I tried with 2 different cards the first one was a 16gb SD card and the other was a 32gb SD card.
5. Through a lot of research I found a leaked way to unbrick the Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300 by shorting out the R313 chip, I'm sure you guys are all aware of this method. I opened my device and couldn't find the R313 chip. After further research I found that a user was able to locate the R313 chip on the i747m and he'd unbricked his phone with that method. If anyone can help me locate the i747m R313 chip it'd be GREATLY appreciated!
If anyone can help me out it would be great! I'm very experienced at soldering so if there's a method that requires me to solder I'm more than confident I can do it.
Thank you!! :good:

I am not an expert but I'm pretty sure you need the mjb2 but there are guides all over that point misleading information. I can post a link that I believe is helpful. And as always I take no credit just pointing a finger here.

[Q] Galaxy Note 2 i317 Won’t Boot After Update

Issue
1. Phone won’t boot beyond the Samsung Logo.
2. It won’t boot into recovery (download mode works).
3. Can flash rom using Odin but phone still won't boot.
Type of Phone
Type: AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 2
Model: i317
Ownership: Bought in Nov 2012 brand new. Warranty is up but it is insured through AT&T.
History: Rooted and then un-rooted and returned to stock in January 2014.
Actions leading up to Issue
Updated to Samsung’s newest firmware Android 4.3 but didn’t like it. I rooted my phone and tried a custom rom but wasn’t happy. Un-rooted by flashing original stock rom via Odin 3.07. Worked great and I was back in business. But then the phone went through an update and never booted back up.
Detail
I’ve rooted all my other phones but never felt the need to root this one until I updated to Samsung’s new Android 4.3. I wasn’t happy with the decreased battery life and poor performance. So I used the method at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2004650 to root my phone using “root66_ATT_I317UCALJ2.tar.md5” with Odin 3.07 and it worked. I then tried a custom Cyanogen Mod rom but it still left something to be desired.
After more research I flashed the original stock rom “KIES_HOME_I317UCALJ2_I317ATTALJ2_215287_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5” via Odin 3.07 and my phone worked beautifully, at least for a day. Then I started getting the AT&T update window for Android 4.3 and the only way to get rid of it was to pull my battery. It was happening so much that I couldn’t even make a phone call. Out of pure frustration I decided to accept the update.
After the update installed it rebooted and never made it past the Samsung logo. So I figured I would just go into recovery and perform a factory reset as well as wipe the cache. The problem here is that it won’t boot into recovery. Only download mode works. I’m also seeing a red LED which I’ve read is a sign of SDS.
I’ve tried re-flashing the original stock rom again. Every time I do I get the green “Pass” display but my phone still won’t boot. The binary count is now at 21 since I’ve tried flashing so many times. I’ve been working on this and researching for 3 weeks. I’ve never had an issue that I couldn’t resolve when it comes to any of my past phones but this is beyond my skill or understanding. I also tried Samsung keys but it says my device is not supported.
Short of digging a hole in my back yard and burying it, is there anything I can do to fix this?
(Note) My wife has the same phone and also didn’t like the update so I flashed the same original stock rom to her phone via Odin and it has been working just fine. Only difference is I never rooted hers. I should have gone that route with mine.
Have you tried flashing, via Odin, just a custom recovery?
If that works, you may be able to follow this guide, starting at post #2.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2618447
If that doesn't work, it is possible you have an emmc issue.... Your symptoms are similar to what others have reported here recently. You might be able to get a repair covered if you can get them to look past the custom counter ... You are running stock firmware... Maybe kies tripped the counter... Stranger things have happened...

Here's the link to TWRP (you want the Odin link toward the bottom):
http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/124
Here's the direct link to the latest philz cwm (you want the md5 file):
http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/t0lteatt
I prefer philz, but you will likely need TWRP to follow the dicksteele guide. You should also track down a CWM flashable recovery package for MH3 recovery to flash back should you need to return the phone for repairs. You can get this by following the i317 link in my sig.
If flashing this in Odin doesn't work that would tend to support the emmc fail scenario. (i.e. you flash it, Odin behaves as if it flashed ok, you power off, attempt to boot recovery with home-VolUp-power and it still doesn't boot). If it does boot recovery, you can try the guide as I mentioned before. Good luck!

I tried each of those just now and they both flashed fine however there is no change. I guess before I break out the shovel I'll try to see if AT&T will fix it since I do pay for the insurance. Thanks for the help that was good stuff. I wish it could have worked.

You flashed LJ2 Stock ROM from ODIN?
And you are back to the Samsung Logo that flashing/pulsing blue???
If so .....
Pull the battery and let the phone sit for a few seconds, pop the battery in and boot into stock recovery (HOLD VOL UP+HOME+POWER) and do a FACTORY RESET then reboot.
I had to do the same thing an hour ago....

I can't believed it worked. Flashed this and suddenly I have recovery. Then I re-flashed the original stock rom, did a reset and wiped the cache and I'm back up and running. Brilliant I say. Genius! Thank you for the great post and thanks everyone for your help. Seems like there should be a like button or something so that you get credit but I don't see one. This was my first time ever posting on any forum so I'm a little ignorant.

OUTSTANDING !!!
Glad you're back among the living.
This will get you back to 4.1.2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=49616718&postcount=2
EDIT:
I just did this and it worked perfectly .....
I'm actually doing that step right now also. I flashed back to stock testing the ATT update server.
EDIT #2:
At this step when the phone reboots the script will run. When it completes you want to boot to system. The next prompt will be do you want to install ROOT. If you do the swipe it will install ROOT, there is a DO NOT INSTALL button on the middle of the screen. Just a heads up, don't know if you are turning your phone back in or not now.
- Second step is:
You will need to download TWRP 2.6.3.1 and flash it in ODIN.
http://goo.im/devs/OpenRecovery/t0lt...lteatt.img.tar
This is necessary for an openrecovery script to run that is stored in the /cache directory from the update.
- Put your Note 2 in Download Mode.
- Open ODIN, put openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.1-t0lteatt.img.tar in PDA slot. Click Start and let the phone reset.
- Your phone will reboot in TWRP. If not, pull battery and enter recovery mode boot into TWRP recovery (HOLD VOL UP+HOME+POWER). The script will run by itself.
sgh-i317 EFS seems like its gone
could anybody help me out with my note 2. ive tried just about everything i can think of. im getting pretty desperate. i can get everything to work fine (recovery, download mode,) but something is keeping it from booting up to the main screen, it will just hand at the boot animation, or the att logo. in twrp it tells me failed to mount efs. ive looked around in the file folders and its like it got wiped out? im not sure how though. could that be why its not booting up?
any ideas??

[Q] bricked tab s

Hey guys,
so I really messed up. I don't blame anyone besides myself.
Just seeing if you guys had any ideas that would help.
So I have a tab s t807 which is now bricked.
I did root and flash twrp which went perfect.
Since I don't use my mobile data for my tablet I decided I would flash a t805 rom
I knew it would work fine just data would be a Problem.
Now here's my mess up. I really wasn't paying much attention.
downloaded the Ironman t705 and flashed it. Huge mistake I know!
Now my tablet screen won't turn on. I can boot download mode
Can't figure out how to get to recovery.
I work for tmobile and now they don't do warranty for that tablet,
also my knox count is at one. So I can't go to samsung.
Any ideas? Thanks for the time for reading this.

Hello.. So twrp works for T807T? Good to know. Anyway your gonna have to flash stock tmobile firmware if you can accesse twrp. Have you tryed doing adb reboot recovery on your conputer?
Bit confused, surely if you can enter download mode its just a case of flashing a t805 firmware?

See that's what I thought. But kept getting a failed message in Odin. USB, drivers are good. And just before that. I flash twrp through Odin
I am downloading a Tmobile firmware now and will mirror it tommrow. Hopefully the download doesnt fail
As long as you can get to download mode the tab should be recoverable. Whether that be flashing a custom Rom, stock rom or a nandroid through twrp. I have soft bricked more times than I can remember, but always recovered through download mode or custom recovery.
I have even recovered from a total hard brick many times as I have jtag equipment which I needed for recovery when developing and tinkering with previous devices. As yet I don't see a jtag option for the tab s, so I'm not to keen to go messing too much.

Anyone have a boot loop issue?

Earlier this evening, after texting a friend, my phone rebooted itself.
It appears to be in a boot loop. It will only reboot into rebooting. Never loads Android. I pulled the battery, let it sit for a few minutes, and tried again with no results.
I've not done modding to the phone (mainly because its locked), and will be returning it to my local AT&T store tomorrow. Thankfully I have insurance on my phone, so I shouldn't have an issue getting a new one.
Anybody else had this issue, however? It's really strange.

Read a guide on flashing back to stock. Use ODiN and flash the stock file of your choice in the ATT note 4 forum from Download mode. Google how to boot into download mode. Hold those buttons until phone powers off then keep holding until you see download mode. You will need to install samsung drivers and for ODiN on Windows go to Devices coms and ports and change port to 3 in advanced tab.

I have had my share of boot looping experiences, never from not doing any type of experiments with my devices. nonetheless myself and I'm sure many other people just do what was mentioned in the quote to alleviate that problem.
i know you (OP) mentioned you don't plan on doing any flashing, but i would do that before using insurance personally, even if there was no deductible

This process is not dangerous if your phone is in a bootloop. Hell AT&T or whatever carrier probably does this themselves if a phone is in this kind of situation. If not rooted or any mods you will still have OTA updates. If you are worried about carrier recognizing if you modded it or something and they wont take it back dont worry just flash it using ODiN. I've rooted many devices hacked compiled roms flashed them and kernels s-offed etc. You can always get back to stock remove flags and your carrier will take it back no matter what just dont return a device with the actual mods on it.
Why not just try to reset the device from the recovery menu? If it's a stock phone it should fix the bootloop.

It won't fix what sounds like a missing or corrupted boot file, had to deal with it on a LG g3.. restoring a full back up or a plain reset had no effect.. it was either doing a full flash or flashing the boot files
for that phone it would randomly happen when the OTA tried to upgrade the device while it was rooted, took me 3 times of dealing with it before I realized OTA was still live
Small update. My local AT&T store has a replacement being sent to me. I'm unhappy, however, since its apparently a refurbished device. I pay for insurance that covers a new device if something, anything, happens. They're refusing to send me a new one for some reason that they won't explicitly state to me.
My loyalty with AT&T has wavered, and I will probably be on another network in coming months. I'm thinking Sprint so that I can least have an unlocked Note 4.
Regardless, since this device is being sent back, I decided to try and Odin flash it anyways. It did not work. Still boot loops at the Note 4/Android screen. Doesn't even load the AT&T logo. I'm fairly certain something is fundamentally broken with the device. Probably a factory error. It's never been dropped, and has been inside a hard case since day one.
Being that it is a manufacturing error, I'm not to angry about that. These things do happen. AT&T's treatment of me, however, is just unacceptable. I've been a customer for about eight years, and have been on Android since the Motorola Backflip. I upgraded to a Samsung Captivate and never looked at another manufacturor.
Are you able boot to the recovery menu?
