How to make a firmware like this
I was actually uploading a copy from my own computer obtained via exploit from bfielding's device, and I decided to try kies. The official package is a much better idea. Samsung Kies requires that you put in your model and serial, then it downloads the firmware in an encrypted package, extracts it, flashes it and deletes it. There's a short window where you can get in and grab the firmware.
Kies downloads to a temporary file called (in my case) C:\Users\Adam\AppData\Local\Temp\tmp####.tmp (where # is an integer less than 10). When the firmware is extracted, it goes into a new folder called C:\Users\Adam\AppData\Local\Temp\tmp####\. Yank that and put it on hotfile .

Nice work as always sir!

There was alot going on and I had multiple windows up. I created one in Linux from bfielding's device, was uploading it to hotfile, uploading one from Kies, and was sent this link too somewhere in the mix. I guess I lost my upload link. Oh well, looks like we're using the Sammobile version.

@AdamOutler, based on your video on the other thread, the motherboard of the ATT and the TMo version of the S4 are the same, does it mean that if flash the TMo version of the ROM on the ATT it may unlock the bootloader or are those two distinctive matters ?

NO! the signatures are different. You'll brick your device, but I'm not sure to what extent.

I was just talking to my friend who works at Koodo (Canada). They receive their S4s tomorrow, and I had make sure he places a hold on one of them for me!
Using the steps you provided in your OP, I'll upload Koodo's ROM tomorrow!

Thanks but let's take an stupid case scenario:
ATT device
TMo odin ROM
try to flash 2 onto 1
Fail or succeed
if succeeds -> bootloader unlocked ?
if fails -> can we flash back ATT odin rom now we have it?

If it flashed, which it wont, then you would now uave bootloaders with the wrong signature and would need to jtag it

You the man Adam!

ok, so basically the signature is check before the flash of the rom. so if my understanding is correct the solutions would be to
disable the check of the signature
have the TMo rom with the ATT signature to flash the unlocked bootloader
change the bootloader with a non-signed version
Please correct me if I am wrong, I am new at this and I am trying to understand what Adam explains in the other thread but I am sometime very confused (and not knowledgeable enough)

[GUIDE] noob. EASY Bell I9000M galaxy S pre-ROOT with JP3 Froyo or stock rom

Bell (canada) calls it Vibrant, but it's really I9000 with NAM.
anyways, I prepared some tutorial based on MODACA, Paul's JP3 rom (prerooted)
(Paul's original thread can be found here. http://alturl.com/bu6qh)
Before I begin, I would like to warn you.
I initially bought 2 phones but only one of the phone was able to go into "download mode"
this is very important because in case of emergency, this is the only way to revive the phone.
if your phone can't get into "download mode" by pressing "pwr, vol down, home" simultaneously, then
I advise you to
go back to the store and have it exchanged
go back to the store and have it exchanged
go back to the store and have it exchanged
When I went to the futureshop to excahnge the phone, I tried the phone right on the spot after the payment.
put the battery in, three button, if you see the download mode.
Take the phone.
Another way of quickly checking if the phone can go into download mode by pressing buttons vol down home pwr to turn on and see if it goes into the DL mode
IF your phone can't be in download mode and you don't feel like exchanging the phone.

===============One shot BETA froyo JP3 FW pre root===================
pre req, <samsung kies installed> <win7 64bit adb usb driver>
Steps: (download the link: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9J6TYUKF unzip with 7zip)
1. put the battery into the galaxy S
2. Go into the download mode (mentioned above)
3. run Odin
4. select PIT 512 (included) chose radio, PDA, CSC and check repartition
5. connect the phone
6. FLASH!!!!!!
7. done
your phone is now rooted with latest JP3 FROYO.
I will post the video tutorial soon
I am currently using this phone on FIDO with sim unlocker that I bought 2 years ago from
dealextreme.com
it works with data, SMS, outbound calls
but I am having trouble receiving calls. (8outof 10 times, it goes directly into the voicemail)
this is not realated to the firmware but my faulty sim adapter.
I ordered an unlock code from unlockgenie (for 26$)
I will report once I get the unlock code.
========ROOT for STOCK ROM===========
(if you would rather wait for the real Froyo from samsung)
the attachment is the modified version for 2.1
I simply changed i9000 to i9000M
put the file in the SDCARD (not external SD card)
do vol up, home, pwr
chose to run update.zip
now you have rooted I9000M
===========tweak=================
do the following tweak

for those who are worried about losing WCDMA850 band (850 3G frequency)
I can confirm that with JP3 rom, you will get the band depending on the area.
Although in the service menu, 850 band is not picked, my phone was on 850 3G band.
yes, like many others, i've found out my version of Bell, does not allow you to do the 3 button recovery mode
now i've to do it the long way via adb, but even so it's not showing up in the list of usb devices in adb.
but it works fine in win7 x64 + Kies and as a Mass Storage
not sure if it's something in Bell firmware did to block the phone to make it harder to hack

Downloaded 2times, and tried 7zip -> same problem...
does this unlock the phone by any chance?
Mine just keeps rebooting when I hold down by pressing "pwr, vol down, home" simultaneously. I must be doing something wrong.. but I can get in download mode when connect to my computer and I use the Android development tools
I don't think swaping the phone is going to work for most people since the phone a store has are likey from the same lot.

I got the Vibrant from Bell and have the same problem as you. I can't get into Download Mode not matter what I try. I can get the phone into Recovery Mode using the Android SDK though. How do you get into Download Mode using the SDK?
I successfully rooted my phone but now I am trying to get Froyo on it. Is it possible to use Rom Manager to flash to Android 2.2? I tried using the rom you linked but the file cannot be unzipped as others have mentioned.
Thanks
"adb reboot download" does the trick.
Thanks Now I just need the the rom... does anyone know if the phone can be flashed with the firmwares listed on samsung-firmware.webs.com?
I will re up the file.
Btw if you still have the stock rom and it doesnt go into download mode
i insist that you get your phone exchanged
what if it gets bricked? Then you cant restore it anymore because you need debug mode for adb

I'm betting it's not your "faulty SIM adaptor" but rather you not having the 850 HSPA band with the I9000 firmware.
And good luck with that unlock code, but it's not going to happen any time soon. Trust me, I've been through this with the Captivate.

I doubt that it's 850mhz issue
because the phone has physical hardware to support 850 and when I did the test on JP3
I didn't update the radio (baseband) and I was having the same issue.
however when I'm on a call with someone( I already called the other person) I do get an incoming call.

the reason why update doesn't work is because you need to change the model number to i9000M
I will also post the modified version of update.zip
btw this version of update.zip only works if you have stock rom.

[FIX] Release: 3-button combo fix for any firmware version

Yesterday Samsung released a update for Bell GT-I9000M which fixed the missing 3-button combo issue (i.e faulty secondary bootloader, SBL).
Unfortunately the fix is currently only available to Bell customers thru Kies, so a registry hack and excess flashing is needed to update the bootloader to another variants.
I have been working on a new P-SBL Redbend fix, but unfortunately I bricked my phone (three times actually ) while testing it.
It seems that Redbend cannot program multiple blocks in a single run, unless the OTA commands are used (they are currently unknown). I could program the two blocks but the phone turned in a brick after succesfull programming. The reason is unknown.
Thats why I decided to revert back to Odin method.
With the newest method it is unnecessary to flash XWJM5 firmware in first, as the compatible Primitive Bootloader is included in the same package and will be updated at the same time with the Secondary Bootloader.
So here is the procedure (once again):
Preparations: Make sure you have the drivers installed (i.e Kies is recognizing the phone), adb available and "USB Debugging" turned on in "Settings -> Applications -> Development" menu. Type *#0228# in the dialer and check Voltage value (without USB plugged in) is atleast 3800(mV).
1. Unplug the phone from the computer (if connected)
2. Kill all Kies related software (tray agent, etc)
3. Start Odin3 v1.3 Downloader
4. Plug in the phone to the computer
5. Start a new command prompt and navigate to the folder / drive where adb is located.
If you haven´t downloaded adb yet, get it here.
6. Type "adb reboot download" to the command prompt and press enter.
7. Move to Odin3 v1.3 downloader and select the "Aries_P-SBL.tar.md5" as PDA file. Make sure "Phone Bootloader Update" is ticked and re-partition is unticked. Do not select any other files but "Aries_P-SBL.tar.md5".
8. Press "Start" button to launch the update process. It will take around three seconds to complete. After the update phone will reboot automatically.
Download the fix: GT-I9000_P-SBL_RCVDL_FIX_ODIN.7z
Both bootloaders are the latest version and therefore compatible with each other.
UPDATE 10/02/2010: Previous methods replaced with the latest (& the safest). ZERO bricks reported so far.
UPDATE 10/18/2010: If you don't want to read, then skip to message 124 of this topic to get the version compatible for your phone, and read all messages that follow for all other releases.
Wow you champ! this should make lot's of people happy.. mine works fine...

Two things I didn't do from your instructions
1. didn't tick repartition
2. Only had Odin 1.0 (I think that is where is FAILED)
At least I know what to do if my phone comes back neutered.
GREAT NEWS!
So I assume that this method will also work on the international version of i9000, which was sold in europ and asia as far as I know.
Am I right? Anyone test it on an international version i9000 yet?

uVex, but you did not use this method am I correct? You used KIES?
Like you said in the other thread: "Just try it with a German T-Mobile Galaxy.
I use Kies to make the Update. After flash phone goes black and stay black "
Is there someone who succeed to install this fix on a Belgian "Proximus" device.
the answer is probably obvious, but this fix should work for every firmware, and having installed a lagfix (RyanZA 2.3in my case) does not matter either ?
Lagfix will not change anything.
This fix writes only BML4 partition.
thought so, but thanks for confirming.

"[ROOT] Galaxy Tab 8.9 LTE (SGH-i957) *updated 2/10/2012*"

People have requested that the initial thread from the general section be cleaned up into a step by step, so here goes. This is ONLY FOR HONEYCOMB 3.2 for the SGH-i957.
NEXT WARNING: USE OF ODIN CAN DAMAGE YOUR PHONE IF USED INCORRECTLY. WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE DUE TO FOLLOWING THESE INSTRUCTIONS. PROCEED WITH CAUTION.
Method 1
This is for people who want to keep the stock kernel. This will not trip the flash counter.
1. Download and Install the Samsung Drivers for your device. Install Kies, or the latest mobile drivers.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961956
2. Download CWM Recovery (courtesy of utkanos)
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9459955/recovery/testing/SGHI957/v2/CWMR5x_i957_recovery.tar.md5
2. Download Odin 1.85
http://www.mediafire.com/?cghfk06lcfiwi29
3. Open Odin 1.85 as administrator
4. Place the CWMR.tar file in the PDA slot. (Make sure you do not have any boxes in the options panel checked besides the ones that were checked when opening the program - should only be auto reboot and f.reset time)
5. Place the tablet in download mode. Hold vol up + vol down and hold power until the device powers on into download mode. Hit volume up to proceed after the warning screen
6. Plug the tablet into the computer on a main usb slot and it will be detected by Odin in one of the ID:COM slots (will appear as yellow)
7. Hit Start - cwm recovery should will be flashed to the tablet. Tablet will restart.
8. Download superuser.zip from the skyrocket forums (courtesy Copperhed)
http://www.mediafire.com/?4h8cmh287mcxuf8
9. Copy superuser.zip to the tablet
10. Reboot into recovery (Power + Volume Up)
11. Navigate to 'Install zip from SD card' and select 'superuser.zip'. You will get an SD Card error when it is done installing, this is normal.
You are now rooted with stock kernel.
Method 2
This is Da_G's work. This will trip your flash counter.
Steps:
1. Download and Install the Samsung Drivers for your device. Install Kies, or the latest mobile drivers.

Huge thanks to Da_G for doing ALL of the work on the modified kernel without owning the device.
Croak and Blackberrynomore for being the first to test!
Scarchunk for the CWM kernel zips!
Thanks Orlando we needed do that as there have been an increasing amount of people asking "how do I ". By the way if you type Odin 1.85 into Google it will come up with the first result being a link to a direct download from XDA. This makes it easier and faster to download because you get an instant file save dialog.
I am working on a ROM/Recovery for you guys now, need some testers with adb knowledge in irc.irondust.net #skyrocket
sweeeeeeet!
I'm going to do this as soon as I get home from work.
Then I can try to do the Hulu hack... Wish me luck with that...
P.S. Is it odd that superuser is already installed on my tab? (I'm assuming it's because Google is super smart and they know I had it installed on my old phone)
P.P.S. What do I have to do to get rid of this 5 minute post restriction You guys are worse than AT&T! Restricting my free speech like that!

So I ended up downloading Flash Video Browser from the market, it doesn't even require root... It just runs flash websites as if they were running on a desktop computer.
Hulu worked great through that! Brought my tablet to the gym and ran on the treadmill while watching hulu! YAY!
Big thanks to Orlando, Croak and especially Da_G. 24 hours in to owning my tab, I am rooted. Now to find a hotspot app...

Shame I didn't back up my Bell ROM. Bell doesn't disable the built in hotspot functionality.
Good news is, there are several international versions of the Tab 8.9 LTE about to hit the ground in Asia and Europe (along with another Canadian carrier). That means that the chances of getting a good "generic" ROM leaked are looking pretty good. Check with Samfirmware on a regular basis.

there are a few guys who have bell who may have just flashed the kernel and not the ATT stock first. Maybe they can do a system dump?
Hi guys!
Is it possible to reset the Flash counter in this Tab using a JIG ?
I have a microUSB JIG I bought for my SGS2.
Can I use it also for the Tab...?
I guess I can buy a standard USB to microUSB converter,
and connect it to the Tab's original USB cable.
The question is if those are the same pins in the Tab's connector as on the USB JIG,
Or the Tab needs different pins to be connected (with the 300 Kohm resistor)...
Newer bootloaders from Samsung are jig-proof. No resetting the counter at the moment.
Does Root remove the Bell SIM lock?
Or another way of asking, is there a way to remove the SIM lock without getting an unlock code?

You'll need to get a code the conventional way.
So far it looks like Samsung finally caught on (or rather, finally cared, or rather the carriers made them care) that it was stupid easy for the end user to unlock a Galaxy device.

[Q] galaxy note 8 factory restore

Hi guys. Im a noob, first post here and need some help. Be searching all day for how to load a stock rom to my device GT-N5110.
Heres the low down.
Purchased in Australia. No updates applied.
Success rooted with framaroot. Was running framaroot for more than a month
Install busy box today in normal mode I think. I chose the safe option.
Edited build.prop product model so I could install Navigon
Navigon working fine
Now..........
Unable to change the product name back using es explorer or file expert.
Thought it would change after restart but device entered bootloop. I think busybox was the culprit.
Discovered recovery mode and did factory data reset. Can acces odin screen on device too.
Device boots but hangs on language selection screen
I have found and downloaded stock rom for it that I found here somehow
I tried "Mrjraider" tutorial "how to flash back to a stock rom"
but odin crashes whenever I load the rom file and it wont recognize my GN8.0
Computer runs on windows 8. Kies is up to date too. Kies reconizes device but is unable to update or anything
Was running odin in win xp sp3 with administrator
can try on a win7 computer tomorrow.
This is the name of the file its about 1.2 Gb....... N5110UEDMD1_N5110XARDMD1_HOME.tar.md5 do I need to rename this or something
There was also a .dll that was in the package, wtf with that?????
be looking through this forum all day and night and cant quite find what im looking for. If what I seek is here please point me to it. Or if any one here in Brisbane, can fix it for me,What are your thoghts? PM me.
Just want my baby back working again.
Sorry, wrong section please delete mod
If I'm not mistaken, remove Kies, then try using Odin. Also, dll is a Windows file. I could be wrong about Kies, but I think I remember reading that it conflicts with Odin.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using Xparent Skyblue Tapatalk 2
Yesterday I installed same firmware in my computer runing win7 with Odin and Kies installed at the same time without problems. You don't need to rename the file, dll is a library for windows and needs to be on the same folder as the md5 file. Just remember to put the Note in download mode in order to get the firmware installed by Odin.
I have a thread in the development forum with the only file you need just flash in odin and done.
Sent from my GT-N5110 using Tapatalk 2
Tutorial is ok, problem seems to be elsewhere.
I have Windows 8 (x64) too, and Odin works i my case, i successfully flashed (and restored counter) N5110 before returning tablet to shop (it was exchange for N5100). Kill all Kies components via task manager, i have two more things in processes when i quit Kies. Next, try another version of Odin, but I remember one ROM from SamMobile, which crashed every Odin i had, so its may be this problem. Try another version of ROM - older, if exists. If crashes Odin too or not exists, try uninstall both Kies and Samsung USB driver, dowload toolkit from xda (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2251033) and install new driver via toolkit.
In rare cases may be problem in your computer, so try another one without installing Kies. I wish you luck.
Edit - That big file is ROM, dll is not needed for Odin. Run Odin, press PDA, select your rom. Turn tablet off, connect to comupter by original or hi-quality short cable, set tablet into download mode (hold vol- and home, press power on for 2 secs, select continue by pressing vol+). If all is ok, first field in Odin change color to yellow (i think), then press "Start".
Thanks to all. Let you know how I go. Odin 4.43 keeps crashing when loading the rom, on both my win8 laptop and fresh installed win 7 pc. Uninstalled everything from laptop except nero. Nothing installed on pc except modem drivers and Samsung drivers. I will redownload the rom. I think it may have become corrupt. Cheers
ok success. this is what I did. eventually got the rom to sit in odin without crashing it by simply renaming file by deleting the .tar.md5 extention. clicked off the file to save the rename. Right click on it again to rename and type the extension back in. Loaded it in odin and it worked. File name in odin showed up with duplicate file extention eg .tar.md5.tar.md5 but it worked. Odin 4.43 would not detect my device. Senior Moderator Mskip toolkit for Samsung galaxy note 8 would not detect my device .This was very frustrating
Used odin 3.07
loaded rom in pda. Found in janjannsen99 development thread.
connected device ,odin 3.07 detected it, unlike 4.43 for some reason.
clicked start.
Walla. Im a happy man.
This is the kind of story that are the most scary. Now I am kind afraid of root my note 8 or do anything unofficial.
Anyway, best wishes to you.

That's what I use odin 3.07 . Don't use the other versions for some reason they don't work
Secondly guys when you download that file in my thread tO your computer it has to be extracted first you only Click PDA In ODIN and use the file you just extracted with the tar md5 extension. Thats it. That ss.dll file has no purpose its just there and you need not even bother with it.

Could you tell me the filename? I am using the Note 8.0 toolkit.

I have checked that, but I don't see US Note 8.0. The search seems broken to, since United States is not shown in the list of country for Note 8.0
No one knows how to get the stock US based ROM?

people keep posting to go to sammobile but every time i look there isn't a rom labeled for the US, and they dont give an explanation of what rom would be the equivilant or even if any of them would be. Should I use UK version? is it the same as the US?
I'm having the same exact issue as OP and I can get into download mode and i have odin 3.07 but i am just looking for the exact rom to load and cant find an exact answer so far. I've already messed up my tablet enough today so I don't want to flash the wrong rom and make things worse lol.

ps I looked for janjansen's thread in development and did not see it, am I missing something? anyone got a link?
ok I did some more reading around the web and found that a lot of people used the UK version as I kinda suspected. Would have been nice to get confirmation on that but its cool, I flashed it, no problem, and now I'm setting up the chainfire root and getting back all my apps. So all in all it took a few days but I'm back on my feet *sigh of relief*

SPH-L520 NJ1 update question

I have obtained a Sprint s4 mini. From what I can find, the current kernel is SE secure enforcing.
The exact build number is KOT49H.L520_4.4.2_0016
Build date is Oct 7 2014
I am not new here, I know that all known root methods are now bust. What other options are there?
Searching seems to be pretty difficult for this device. All searches for bootloader and recovery come up for the i9190 / i9195
If I use Kies or Odin to flash a previous recovery image, will that brick the device? Also in the settings, it says Secure Boot Status - Type: Samsung
Guess that is referring to the Knox enforcing
The particular image I had in mind to flash with Odin is SPR-L520VPUAMK2-20131115204826
Will it work? Or am I screwed?
Well no one was able to answer my question, so I had to figure it out on my own. Hopefully the following information will be of help to someone else without spending 36+ hours digging through the internet for answers.
You CAN fix your phone it you are on the NJ1 kernel. This is NOT a guide to fixing a bricked phone, although it may fix that too.
If you are on the NJ1 kernel, there are no root methods currently available. You MUST be on NE3 or lower. I also attempted to flash the custom recovery through Odin, but after a reboot it was as if I did nothing. No Knox flag, no warranty trip, no custom recovery.
Here is what I did to get custom recovery and root:
READ THIS BEFORE ATTEMPTING STEP 1.
This is only for the Sprint variant of the S4 Mini. Model number SPH-L520
Your Warranty could be voided. Proceed if you like. (More info on steps 5 and 6)
I had a horrible time getting the downloads from Sammobile. You WILL have to create an account and login to download files. I could not find any working links for the firmware below except for this site. Register a user name and password, DO NOT UNCHECK THE BOX that says receive emails from Sammobile OR YOU WILL NOT GET YOUR REGISTRATION EMAIL. On the Register page it is at the bottom. After you register, check your email and click on the link to complete the registration.
Close all your windows that are open to sammobile.
You are going to want to download Internet Download Manager in order to download files from Sammobile. After many many attempts to download the firmware from Sammobile, all tries failed. YOU ARE GOING TO NEED IDM to get a reliable download.
Download IDM ---> https://www.internetdownloadmanager.com/download.html
Install it and follow these directions to enable resume downloads in IDM ---> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2765456
If you do not do the steps above, you most likely will have failed download after failed download.
Even after setting this up, the firmware download failed on me twice. I deleted it from the download list in IDM and started it again.
IDM integrates well with Internet Explorer. Kinda buggy with Chrome. I would suggest using IE for the rest of this Tutorial.
Ok, now that you have that squared away, move on to step 1
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
1) Flash your phone back to NE3. You can get that here ---> http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/31482/L520VPUBNE3_L520SPTBNE3_SPR/ (click Regular Download, then on new page right-click Confirm Download and click SAVE AS. After that the IDM window should pop up. Just Start Download)
Also go ahead and download download the NJ1 in case things get rough. List of all firmwares here ---> http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SPH-L520/
2) Download and install the Samsung drivers ---> http://www.mediafire.com/download/a4hd8y0c1iakysk/Samsung-Usb-Driver-v1.5.49.0.exe
Download Odin 3.09 ---> http://androidhost.org/PVAIv
Unzip Odin to a folder or desktop. Do not run it from in the zip folder.
3) Run Odin 3.09.
Reboot your S4 Mini SPH-L520 into download mode. Turn phone off > Hold Volume Down, Home Button, and Power Button all at the same time. Wait for the phone to buzz and the pop up on the screen. Release the buttons and press Volume Up to confirm.
Now plug in your phone to your computer. It might take a few seconds for the drivers to install. Wait until Odin shows blue color in the first bar on the left side. Should say 0:[COM3] (the COM number will be different depending on your computer and the USB port you plugged it into)
VERY VERY IMPORTANT! Make sure that the AUTO-REBOOT and F. RESET TIME boxes ARE checked. Make sure that the RE-PARTITION box is NOT checked.
4) Unzip the NE3 download from earlier. Click on the AP button in Odin and navigate to where you unzipped NE3. It should be a .MD5 type of file
Give Odin a few mins to check the file. It may appear that Odin has hung up, just be patient.
After Odin has run the check, it should say ok in the little window on the bottom left. Now click START and wait.
DO NOT bump the phone, the laptop, the usb cord, and MAKE SURE THE BATTERY DOES NOT FALL OUT!!!
After Odin is done flashing, it will reboot the phone. After the initial reboot, the phone will reboot itself once more. Be patient
Now wait for the phone to completely boot up.
5) After you have got back to ME3, you can follow this guide to root it ---> http://androidxda.com/root-samsung-galaxy-s4-mini-sprint-sph-l520
You already have most of the files you need. Just follow the instructions and download what you do not have already.
By the way, in Odin the AP button and the PDA button are the same
(This method should not trip the Knox counter, but I am unsure. Mine was already tripped before all of this)
OPTIONAL (this will trip the Knox counter and lose warranty status)
6) Now you can use this guide to install the custom recovery ---> http://techbeasts.com/2014/05/04/in...-root-sprint-samsung-galaxy-s4-mini-sph-l520/
Again, you already have most of the files you need. DL what you don't have.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I am planning on instaling CM11 ---> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2669991
This ROM apparently needs a specific recovery in order to work properly. I installed that one instead.
MAKE A BACKUP IN THE RECOVERY OF THE STOCK ROM BEFORE FLASHING ANY CUSTOM ROMS, or else be sorry later.
This is about as simplified as I could get it. Hope this helps out those of you that were as confused as I was.
I will not be providing support. Simply do not have the time. There is more than enough info here to help you figure out what to do.

Can you help me to backup your first partition on your phone and send to me. You can use EFS Professional on xda.
Hmm....I installed the NJ1 update through Odin. And then flashed the CF auto root (or maybe it was the recovery.tar) with no issues. I did this when NJ1 was first released.

I am sorry, I have been really busy. What exactly are you trying to do? Asking someone to backup sensitive data from their phone and share it to a stranger can be alarming.
At least tell us what is going on or why you need the backup.
