This is a guide on how to apply custom themes to your desktop on practically any version of Windows
**I HIGHLY recommend that you make a system restore point before beginning any of this as this process has to patch system files**
As many of you know windows 8.1 will be out soon. Unfortunately the creator of uxstyle needs to get a new license in order to make this work on there. Please use the link in the OP to go to the uxstyle page and donate to him so that we can continue to have custom themes available for use on windows 8.1. Thanks :good:
Downloading and Installing patch:

I personally recommend that you use this patcher because it is the one that has worked for me.

Installing:
MAKE A SYSTEM RESTORE POINT!! I personally have had no problem with this but better to be safe than sorry.
Run the .exe and follow the instructions
Reboot.
You will not notice any change until you download and install custom themes

Search for custom themes (I recommend using the search query "windows custom theme")
Find a theme you like
Make sure the theme you want will work with the version of Windows you have
Download it!!
Installing:
Find the file you downloaded
Extract the files inside (usually in a .zip or .rar)
keep track of the names of the folder containing the .msstyles files and the .theme file in case you find that you want to remove the theme
drag both the .theme file and the folder containing the .msstyles to the /Windows/Resources/Themes folder
Go into control panel, and under the installed theme list should be your theme
Activate your theme
Profit!!
If you find that certain UI items are missing, reboot and they should be fixed.

There should be a link to the icons on the page that the theme download is. There is a way to change the icons all at once I just don't remember atm

HOW TO
1)how to install
just grab the latest version(or any version according to your needs and install)(latest version is more preffered).no need of any base theme or something like that.

no at all.every update is a complete theme.no need of any basic theme or something like that.

they are three .apk files and nothing else.low battery drainer gallery,landscape enabled touchwiz launcher,and normal and default samsung dialler.
as far as my recommendation is concerned.you dont need them.i have tried to include the best possible .apk in the theme package only.
cases in which they need to be installed:-
*i want landscape ability in my tw launcher.
download touchwiz30launcher.apk and place it in system\app folder in your phone.
*theme contains beautifull black dialler but i still find it ugly.i wana go back to default one
download dialertabactivity.apk and place it in system\app folder in your phone
*gallery you have included is battery drainer.
download gallery3D.apk and place it in your system\app folder.
4)I am not liking miui icons.how to get galaxy tab icons?
just download basic theme from below.open it through winrar.go to system->app->extract out touchwiz30launcher.apk from it and put it in your system\app folder in your phone using root explorer.

it is a user customized version by edint 3000....he has modified THEME ULTIMATE UPDATE 4(TW CLEAN) on his own.....my contribution in this version is absolutely zero...everything is customized by him only....below are some changes according to him....
1)combined LitePro Blue Skyline with theme ULTIMATE
2)flat black notification bar with black transparent pulldown
3)extended power menu from LitePro Blue Skyline (Credits to LitePro for most beautifull icons)

How to replace apk
download apk and place it in your sd->go to sgs tools and choose mount system as rw and then close it->copy .apk file to system\app using root explorer and you are done..

note 1:-yaa android marketing downloading issue has been solved but still bluetooth sending/recieving text is black and samsung apps downloading text is black..this can be solved by editing xml file in these apps(only guess )....i hope in future with little more knowledge of xml i will do that...or some other developer will do that...otherwise status bar has to changed a bit to that black is visible.

dude i guess this will work on jpx rom also...since they share the same base....i dont hv jpx now(heard it has some battery issue)....by the way it would be great if somebdoy just check it on jpx..it will work..... ...and if it doesnt i will make one for jpx also....have nandroid or another working theme on hand....thanks

I am on ciskelo 30 with black and blue theme and with some personalization made using uot kitchen on line......
Flashed this theme and it is VERY VERY NICE ... I want to keep but I had only one pr
problem the PHONE disappeared
using CW flashed the 3d dialer from criskelo and it was fine ... then I re-flashed this them and finally I had all working

V3, i just cant get it to work, i install criskelo v30, check if jkay v12 is removed, than install criskelo v31, statusbar is still there, install jkay v13.1, reboot, and statusbar is still there, than i install your v3, reboot and statusbar is gone.
I can only get it to work with criskelo v30 and your v2.
Any solution?

Here goes my second theme for TW 4.5. I this time I decided to use "meego" icons.
The credits for the icons go to the original creators. All I did was resize / crop / rename and create some that I needed. I got most of the icons from:

This theme has 623 resources - about 600 app icons (stock, apps, games, etc).

HOW TO INSTALL:
1 - Make sure you have TW 4.5
2 - Use one of the following methods to install the theme:
Method 1
- via TW Manager Theme section (scroll down and look for Meego Theme - refresh theme list first!)
Method 2
- Download it and place the zip file on the root of your sdcard. Then on TW 4.5 preferences go to:
- "Themes" -> "Install Theme" -> select zip file.
- "Themes" -> "Choose Theme" -> select theme

if u see N9 icon there is no shape at bootom rounded icon, maybe hard to explain but its better to show you.

If you mean the original Touchwiz then no, you need TW 4.5 (a modded version of Touchwiz which allows theeming and other tweaks / options).

Yes, I installed TW 4.5 on my Galaxy S II and now I have both (stock and TW 4.5) no I assume that there's no risk on trying it with DarkyRom
You should install it via TW4 Manager app.

Well, I'm not a designer, all I did with this and also with the suave theme was finding icon sets that I like and that would be worth converting into a TW 4.5 theme.
All I did on both cases was renaming, cropping the ones that had wrong size and just create some for the apps that were missing the theme icons on my phone - There's a tile background template with lots of colors and I just grabbed the icon.png from the apk files, no big designs skills envolved
There are still a few icons left so I should release a new version soon. Then I can only update this if I find a new or better set of icons (here on xda devs, deviantart, etc).
An "Astro File Manager" icon will be good!

Can you actually select your own backgroud image for the Modern start screen? If so i will give this a try tonight and let you know if there are any issues. Thanks for your work on this i am not the biggest fan of the preset backgrounds.
With a program it's very difficult, because there is a system file to edit. I'll give a try
I think too that the default backgrounds are bad
Doesnt work. Started with Admin rights, I can change the accent color but not the background

There are some problems with imageres file.
I have do this manually (the problems are the image format, depth and color and maybe Resource hacker...)

You mean a language pack? Then no, Im using a clean install of RTM. Might try again later

The 2.0 version is almost finished. I need some tester before publish, because the editing of imageres.dll wasn't much stable (though the problems was resolved). One never know

Some users can't change their background or accent color or twice with this tool...
I'm trying to find a solution (this problem came from 1.0 version...)
What version of Windows 8 have you tried? Have you got a language pack installed or your windows 8 is in another language than en-US?
Have you started it as administrator or have you restarted your pc and re-tried to edit background? Is your PC activated?
Sorry for a lot of question, but i have no idea of this problem...

Im running RTM Pro x64. No laguage packs installed Language/Region is English-Australia.
I tried running as administrator. Tried reboot too.
PC is not yet activated.

Maybe the image selected was heavy and Irfanview (the tool included thatconvert images) didn't convert the image on-time. I will incrase the image converting time.

Thanks for the new version, everything seems to go well (no errors) but I can't seem to see any change's after I reselect the modified theme.

Thy this:
select a default theme and open the start-screen
return to desktop
select the custom theme and re-open start-screen
If this don't apply the custom background, look to \windows\system32 folder if "imageres.backup" is present
Maybe there are problems with permission of rename imageres.dll.

So here it is, the MIUI v5 Miro Icons Expansion (aka Vexillum Project MIUI v5) CONTINUED. PhysX started with this topic and because of him we got a big number of Icons. Big credit goes to him for the PSD Template, collecting all Icons and updating this Theme so often. But he changed his device and doesn't have anymore time for this. PhysX allowed me to continue this topic in his name and I will try to get it updated more often. Right now Zipaling allowed also to use some of his Icons in this Icon Expansion and we got a lot of Icons, which will be extended in future even more.
Since Xiaomi changed the rules with Themes from 01.2014 Themes can only be installed and downloaded from the official Miui App Store. It is hard to get it, but I got it after 2.5 months and 5 rejects. I will work further on it to improve it further.
NOTE!
* Right now it is only an Icon Pack in the Miui Theme Store. I will try to get it as a Theme.

1. rename your xxxx.mtz file to xxxx.zip now extract everything to your desired folder.
2. rename the icons file to icons.zip
3. rename the icon png to the right process name (see first post)
4. open the icons.zip file and put the png into it
5. rename it back to icons (without .zip)
6. now put the icons file into your xxxx.zip and rename it back to xxxx.mtz

Guys just a question. I'm using this theme and want to get as close as I can to mi3 look. But the wallpaper with the Orange on the bottom don't look the same as on pictures (like in the OP), can't get the dark color behind dock icons. Is it made by any dock? Tnx for answer
