WiFi Tether... Amazed my dumb Apple loving friend last night - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Hanging out at my buddies last night with some friends. We were all chillan in the basement and my friend's whose house we were at, his wifi didn't reach to the basement for some reason. So I jump in and I'm like, you want wifi? *did some clicks on my phone* ok check your wifi now. "JoesGalaxyS3" appears as a wifi for him to connect to. He's like, how the hell did you do that? I'm like that's Android for ya man... Apple sucks, enjoy my wifi

How do you get WiFi tether to work? I'm running CM 10.1 and it's a no-go. I tried the build-in, market apps, new kernel. Nothing works for me.

Actually it is free.

this reminded me back in 2010 when iphone 4 was first released and apple made a big push for its facetime feature. my coworkers and i were in a bar and both of them just got the iphone4 that not too long ago and they were trying to showoff facetime to me. long story short, they couldn't get it to work because there was no wifi, then i said "you want wifi, now you have it" and turned on wifi tether for them. they were able to do facetime after that, except even after that they were still saying how great iphone was like typical ifan boys. needless to day, i no longer associate with them anymore.

4G problems on Cyanogen 6.1.2

Hi guys, I installed the cyanogen mod 6.1.2 and the modified kernal for wimax on my evo. For the life of me i cannot figure out why i can't see it on the settings, or in the status bar. I did a forum search and i check out a few videos on youtube. I can't figure it out. Does anyone know why this is happening, and can anyoen help me figure out how to get 4g to work on the evo?
I'll answer this nicer and easier than probably anyone else here will...
FIRST - Wrong section.
SECOND - CyanogenMod 6.1.2 is not compatible with WiMax or 4G. CyanogenMod 7.0 is the only AOSP that I know of compatible with 4G.
Yup, there was only a brief 6.1.2 test of WiMax and it was replaced by CM7 ever since, and is now considered stabled.
Not so nice response: This isn't Q&A.
listen big buddy tough nuts, look at you acting like a **** because i asked a question, after i did initial research and couldn't find an answer.
Cm 6 had an experimental rom with wimax. Those days are long gone when our battery would last an hour. Besides, its been merged into cm 7.

Dude chill out. Those were 2 of the nicest responds you will get. Now with your response you are asking to get hammered now. Short and sweet answer is Wimax doesnt work on CM6, wimax has only recently been implemented into CM 7 Nightly 8 and higher I believe.

Right. So after researching, post in the correct section. Searching does not give you the right to post questions in the dev section, then get pissed cause people aren't nice to you.
If you don't play by the rules, people will be mean, suck it up and be a big boy.
Your misunderstanding came with the fact that 6.1.2 has a kernel that has WiMAX **SUPPORT**
This does not mean 6.1.2 has WiMAX working
All it means is that the KERNEL makes it so it is CAPABLE of working, were it implemented in the OS, not just the KERNEL.

I use Facebook flow to do batch pic uploads. Its in the market. Once you log into the app and you go o to gallery and select multiple pics you then select facebook floe to upload them. As far as the pics rotating on you yeah it is annoying. I just take all my pics In landscape mode so they don't come out sideways.

Is it just me, or does this just seem more like a "HTC is better" spammer? Either way, Most major problems are solved by apps, such as the Facebook app mentioned above. Plus, no one seems bothered by the portrait/landscape extra step. So that is why no developer is wasting their time with it. The developers on here work hard to fix the short comings of stock phones (Such as seriously lacking battery life) Which, with my a new ROM and Kernel, I had over 20 hours of battery life today while TRYING to kill my battery. So I would say the developers are doing a splendid job, and you just come off ungrateful.

Ungrateful for wanting a mms issue resolved within the software? Blah, you are officially talking out your ass. HTC spammers? Conspiracy theory's? Lmao. Just be nice to come up with a fix for said problem. Why HTC can and others can't beyond me but spamming as you say a brand like HTC. Well, that's the truth and I am correct in my statement and have verified on other phones. Did you not read my post where I praised xda? Notice my post said devs? I meant that in hopes of not receiving comments as such as I believe this is a feasible question. You sir discredit the notion that people might attain information via other forums.
Question still stands? Thanks in advance!
Simple answer: HTC added a feature. There's no bug in the others. HTC is tagging the photos to mark which ones are portrait, then displaying them rotated. The pictures, though, are actually still in landscape, just turned to the side as your phone is.

Why not try some other mms apps in the market? While the devs here often help when they can, it its usually because many people want something changed, you are the only one who seems to need this purely cosmetic feature. On top of that, this site is for learning and developing. If no one wants to use their time to make you an app, their are plenty of resources for you to do it yourself. Or show a high need for the feature to entice the developers. At the moment you are the only one who cares.

Extremely laggy 3G

Hi all,
I'm running Aero's 7-12 CM9 / 10.5 BFS, and have noticed extremely laggy 3G.
Not laggy in the traditional sense though. It's when I open a program that needs to access the internet, it takes 10+ seconds to pull anything down.
Lets say I open Tapatalk. When I click a forum, it will take 10 seconds just to "connect" to forum - to download any data at all.
Same thing in a browser, Opera Mini for example. The first time I open it up, I'll do a google search, and it will be 10+ seconds before it appears any sort of data has been sent. Then I switch over to Reddit News, open my front page, and it's 10+ seconds before anything appears at all. Once it appears, it's fine and fast.
On Wifi no problems at all. But on 3G, each new program I open that uses the internet will take 10+ seconds to connect, then after that it's responsive and fine.
Has anyone else run into this issue at all? I've tried the V6 / 3G supercharger and it seems to have no effect. I don't remember having this problem before, nor do I recall when it started happening.
I'm guessing a clean wipe / reinstall would fix issues, but am curious to see if there are any other solutions out there.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
Best regards,
-Dirk
Ever since I reformatted my sd card my 3g has been a lot faster. Like it's actually usable now and I don't have to get on wifi as much as I can.
Did you just format to fat32 and restore what you previously had on it (i.e. music, pics, etc.)?
fat32 and 64k and I just copied back music and pix. But after that I was even tethering and getting 2 mbps so who knows.
Thanks for cursing me Dirk. My 3g has been dog slow all day now.

I wasn't serious either. But we all know that if HTC tries to fix the 3G, Apple will be all over their butts. That's what happened with the One X anyways.
Its all a ridiculous mess really when you think about it. It's not like HTC started the litigation period anyways.

Yep that's probably apple's next marketing slogan "with iPhone you know it will be available when you want it *fine print* because its the only one we didn't have banned." Honestly I have nothing against the iPhone itself other than the tiny screen, but Apple's business practice is down right pathetic. I would rather wipe my you know what with my money than give a dime to that scumbag, elitist, "your phone is selling so you must have copied us, quick lets buy the patent so we can say that we came up with the idea" company.

Sounds like the problem's a bit slippery. Better mop that up before it gets out of hand.

Lol
He's been busy with the problem, banging it into submission. Look for something new in about 9 months.
This thread needs someone with a seafoam green username!

Hey guys,
I was really in the mood to check out some raunchy phone porn at www.xxxda-developers.com but I've found that the site is down. Bit of a bummer. Anyway just thought I would bring attention to the issue and see if any developers here knew about it. Is there an ETA on bringing the website back up again?
Cheers.

Yes the site is currently down due to the front end server known as Wendy 1331 being overcome by too many members logging in. Wendy frequently goes down all the way and the back end server also gets choked by exceptional flows. The admins will reboot the system soon, as they are sick of having members' issues rammed down their throats.
A re-opening party will be held at the site offices at 10PM. Please do not come too soon as we have exciting preparations to do. At the inaugural opening of our slick portal we had a fancy dress party. I was going to dress as Super Woman, but I was so excited I forgot and came in my pants.

9 months is an awfully long time. Better hope we get a stable release. In the meantime, can we post pics here? I found this nice picture of a naked Galaxy S2, oh my

Oh yeah, the USB port is removed and ready to connect. I like that floppy ribbon cable. Something about the "vintage" look just does it for me. That 4-rail battery terminal is enough for any pads. Let me know if you wanna power that thing up, I've got some juice right here.

I have to say I agree. Well if you like that, I got a treat for you. Just found a pic of a face-down, double penetration Galaxy Nexus with the battery exposed. Should just be right up your alley

The CDMA variant is a bit too chunky. I prefer the curves of the GSM version.

I'm guessing you missed the sim card slot there Adam :good:
What are your thoughts on extended batteries? I personally find them too much of a handful, and any more than a handful is a waste.

Android Marshmallow beta now seeding to Galaxy Note 5

A while back, we posted an article about how to sign up to beta test Android Marshmallow on the Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy S6 edge+, and Galaxy Note 5 on select carriers. If you have an AT&T Galaxy S6 edge (SM-G925A), AT&T Galaxy Note 5 (SM-N920A), Verizon Galaxy S6 edge (SM-G925V), or Verizon Galaxy S6 edge+ (SM-G928V), you can visit here and sign up for the official beta. The good news is that it has started seeding for the Galaxy note 5 and we have a few screenshots from one of our readers.

For at least the AT&T Galaxy Note 5, they selected only 200 participants, it is unknown if other devices got more or less at this time. Our reader was emailed with the instructions to download the Samsung app which would then install the beta to his device. The Note 5 now has build number MMB29K.N920AUCU2BPB1 and the kernel version has a build date of today, February 2nd, meaning it was probably pushed late last night Korean time. The update size for the beta was just over a gigabyte at 1355.94 MB, so it is quite hefty.
is there a way to get the update file and sideload it?
Anyway I can sign up now?
How did people sign up that sucks we missed out.

It was on Reddit thread, someone posted a link there.
Would be fantastic if someone could provide those files or instructions for installing the beta that they received from Samsung...

I've been considering it for a while.. Just can't get myself to pull the trigger on it. I love the note 5 but I also love root and vanilla android. Lately battery has kind of sucked for me too.. But that's a story for another thread haha.

I had the 6P and came back to my Note 5 in about a month. All 3 that I had bent from no extra force other than having it in my loose front pocket by itself. And I always took it out before I sat down or bent over/down.
Not only that, the screen isn't as good or bright and I didn't think the camera was as good either. And rooting is overrated in this day and age. I got bored with it quick. Yes the phone is smooth, but it lacked too many features for me.
You may like it, but proceed cautiously is my advice.
I don't miss the amount of time I wasted rooting and flashing just to achieve instability and marginal benefits.

I tend to agree, but I did like having a nandroid backup, being able to backup and restore apps simply, adaway (adguard is ok, but have to disable to join my vpn), and simple things like volume music controls.
Did Samsung enable more options on the alarm clock? Specifically if you can adjust the snooze settings other than just turn it on or off.
