This is definitely a confusing one on my part. I have my HTC Tilt2 running Android, and the volume options for it and everything are working perfectly. I can hear music being played out of it and all. Thing is though, I can't change ANY of the ringtone options, notifications, or sms reminder sounds. They are all set on silent, with no other options. I look in the /andboot/media/audio however, and I can very clearly see that all the options for sound are still there. I have tried removing Android off of my SD Card to no avail.
Format your card with the HP tool. I think the partition table gets screwed up on peoples cards, and the Windows format doesn't touch the table. Just a guess.
Well, I formatted my SD Card, and... Surprise surprise, it didn't work :/
Maybe it has something to do with a storage file on the phone, idk...

With the HP tool or how did you format it?
Also, are you using the preFRX02 system image or...?
I used the format tool on the phone because I don't have a way of formatting it without it being in the phone since I lost my SD Card Adapter for it.
And I believe I am using... the ProjectAndroid2.2BLAZN.092810 build with the 10/10 update on it.

That's NOT the way I asked you to format.
I even said I think the partition table is what is getting screwed up, and that the Windows format tool doesn't touch the partition table - the WinMo tool would be the same way.
So you lost your USB cable to your PC as well? That's how I always format/communicate with the SD card...

I tried using the USB cable, but I couldn't get the option to format it. It wouldn't come up under the devices for it. Would it possibly have anything to do with syncing it to the PC? Like changing it from using to ActiveSync to connecting with it using the Disk Drive?

Yea, I always select the "Disk Drive" popup on the phone when I want to format/work with just the card. I don't think it'll work in ActiveSync - you'll be able to see the card, but I don't think you'll be able to format it.

I'll do that the moment I can get the Disk Drive to work. Doesn't seem to be appearing up on my computer with that option selected...
*EDIT* Okay, I got it to recognize it under the Disk Drive, but now it won't format. It doesn't even start loading, it just says "Formatting the device..."
*EDIT2* Got it formatted under Windows and using the HP Tool, reinstalled Froyo 2.2 on there, and still didn't have it working. Went through with the Media Scanner though, and it fixed the problem right up. Thanks arrrghhh

So I was in the same boat you are in. Nothing could read the card except for my Nokia n97 mini. It recognized the card as "locked" and prompted for a password. I bypassed the prompt and went to the file manager. From there it let me format the card and it is back to normal. See, Symbian is good for something after all!
PS: I tried the same process with an E71 and had the same successful results. All recent Symbian phones should work as it appears they can handle the encryption and password. The card is now happily back in my HTC EVO.

Has noone tried a low level format utility? I once "bricked" a USB flash drive and fixed it with a low level format utility. Instead of reading file partitions and the like it just accesses the raw disk and 0s it out. From there you should be able to reformat it with the normal windows formatting tools.

Pretty sure this is the one I used to recover a "dead" flash drive previously.

I don't know if it'll work but I would think that it should.
Excuse my ignorance, but would this be used to format a MicroSD card that has been "bricked" by using it in a Samsung Focus, or to make a MicroSD card usable in a Samsung Focus?

Anyone actually tried the damn disk manager in Windows (i.e. diskmgmt.msc)? You know, before one runs out downloading esoteric tools, why not try the built-in stuff? I'd be surprised if this is anything beyond WP7 overwriting the MBR with its own crap. (The MBR keeps the partition table, too, and you aren't required to have one if your operating system uses an alternate way and/or doesn't need to boot from it).

obviously yes. tried all obvious tools, windows does not even detect the card as plugged in to the computer.
event tried a blackberry!
only question is now, who lives around Frankfurt/germany and has a symbian device?

You have to define "the system don't see the card." Like in device manager, is anything there? Just because it doesn't show up as a drive doesn't mean squat.
in mmc computer management the card does not appear AT ALL.
in device management, the card shows all "-" under volumes.
not sure how i can describe this in more detail, its simply as if i never plugged it in.

I can't tell you exact (I can't test it at this moment , need a good screwdriver) , but what I understand is that device manager isn't seeing .
I did read somewhere that the os sees the card as write protected and 0 GB .

Hey guys for some reason there is close to 8gb lost on my phones internal memory. I looked on the DiskUsage app and there is close to 8gb that is just taken up by "System Data". Is that normal? I have 32 Gigs total. 26 Available to user. 10 gigs of music. Apps and stuff are on the "Internal Storage" which is 2.11 gigs. Where is the rest? It says the "System Data" alone is worth 8 gigs. Im just confused.
Any Advice or help would be nice. Thank you!
There's a massive thread on it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25568370
Basically you need to copy everything onto your computer, format the card then copy everything back onto it.

Hey bro thank you for reply and help! Just a quick question. Doing that, will that affect my ability to use my current rom which is CyanogenMod 9. In other words will formatting the internal storage mean that I will have to reflash the ROM onto my phone?

No. ROMs are stored in your internal storage, not the user-accessed storage that the phone sets as SD card storage.
ISSUE!
OMG PLS HELP! The USB wont mount after format and says "Damaged SD Card" and "SD Car Error" :/ idk what to do ... I formatted the Storage to regain lost space upon the recommendation of another peson on the forum ... But I formatted on my Mac and it did it as Ex-Fat :/.
PLEASE! any help would be appreciated! Really worried :/
Can you still mount it on your Mac? Try reformatting again - it needs to be fat32 (preferably with 16kb block size).

I don't know anything about tools available on OSX, so I'm not sure I'm going to be much help for that side of things. If you've got a windows machine sitting around I'd plug it into that; it should recognise that it's not formatted correctly and offer to format it to fat32 straight away. Otherwise maybe something like whatever the OSX equivalent of a partition manager like gParted is would work to write a new filesystem without mounting the drive, but I can't advise you there.

Hack Kit does not mess sdcards, so yours should have been bad before, or maybe the contacts in the device are not ok. Have you tried formatting the sdcard?
That might happen if you improperly unmount it. Have you unmount it from the device, take it off and put it back, choosing to eject it from the menu?

So it sounds like you managed to root your phone successfully then using the Ace kit. Do you install a new custom ROM as well or just go back to your original one?
If the Hack kit worked your SD card should work fine as it turns it into a gold card. If the SD card was damaged it should have flagged it up during the Ace Hack kit installation.
Turn off you phone, take the SD card out and clean the contacts. Put it back in and restart the phone and see what happens?
If that doesnt work format your SD card or get a new one. They are pretty cheap these days.

sd card blank or has unsupported filesystem
Hi.
My sd card has stopped working. It shows sd card blank or has unsupported filesystem, I made factory reset, hard reset but still not working. My HTC Desire HD corrupt every sd card that i put inside the whole. How to fix this problem. I'm worry about it because i cannot use the camera or to download any video. SD Card require for all downloads. In the PC shows removable disc but when i want to format it shows "enter the disc".
Thank you in advance

I just want to know if is any way to root the phone without sd card. It should be any way i think. Someone told me to root the phone.
So I went back to stock system because I needed to unlock my phone and I placed some files on my Internal SD, then installed PA 2.10 and when i try to access my Internal SD its completely new, my old stuff disappeared. Any suggestions on what i did wrong or how to access my files?
Another thing to mention, on the Internal Storage (when i plug in my phone to my PC) it says I only have 10GB of space out of 12, even though my "new" directory doesn't contain even 100mb of data.

This is a great reason why it's a good idea to invest in a $10 micro sd card. Did you format /system and/or /data?
They are stored in a folder call 0 now. Look in there. 4.2 rooms move all your data files there. You can find them all in there and move back if you like

You can use adb and navigate to /data/media.
Or you can get a file manager, navigate to /data/media, then move all your files to the 0 folder then do whatever you need to after.
