I bought this phone, i'm pleased with performances of phone, but the main problem is not enough space! It have arround 1.5 gb free, for apps. I found some apps on market store arround 20mb, but when i installed i had 100mb used. I also tried to install manuly, but when i put into phone memory apps i can't read them, memory is used but nothing happened, i didn't even see them! Is there any folder explorer or something like that? for easier sorting of space.
create a new folder on your SD card ( ex: apps ), and copy all the .xap files in it. restart the phone ( not really necessary, but do it ). open store, keep it opened, a new folder shoud appear ( you'll have HTC, applications, games and SD card ), open SD card, select the app that you want to install and voila !
if SD card option does not appear, try to open/close the store several times. it is a bit tricky, but it works ( my phone came with 1 gig of space only - orange branded.... ) so i really had to do it this way...

But the apps were installed on internal storage, right ? You`ve just installed them from the SD card.
yes, but when you install an app directly from the store it keeps the .xap file on the device and some temp files. you'll see the difference after you do it. make a list of what apps you have now on your device and how much space you have left, reset your device and install them as described and you'll notice the difference.

The only issue is you have to have all the apps you want to install because when you install them it will not install again even you added new xap files. So make sure all your favorite apps are there to be install

Thats when you would do a reset to have the SD Card appear in STORE. NOTE: you must be connected online
It will NOT install on the SD card. This is not supported yet. The application will be installed on the phone memory.

Hi, there!
I use Froyo, unrooted, for new apps the sd card is set as default place for installation.
This morning I have tried to test how many apps can be put on the phone. I have reinstalled some not so useful apps from the sd card (where I have stored them in the course of the last months).
Some app had problems to install, the process would not finish. So I switched the phone off and on again. After reboot, the apps installed on the sd card are not being found any more. Neither is it possible, to install an app from the Market, the installation process does not finish.
In the settings menue, the sd card and its distribution of the used and free space is shown correctly, as is the free internal memory with 26 MB. But it is not possible, for instance, to use the removal of the sd card function.
It is clearly no issue of the sd card as such, I would say - apps which are installed on the phone (like tuneWiki, due to the use of its widget) have easy access to the sd card.
Every suggestion how to resolve the issue is welcome!
Issue resolved: Via menu -> applications -> administration -> only running apps I was able to halt some applications (the regular task manager is installed on the sd card as well, of course), amongst which was an app called package installer. Apparently, that was the solution, since after a new reboot, everything works fine again.
I'm not so lucky I Had the same problem as you a few hours after installing the new OTA update (and some other apps, dunno if it is related). Sadly my phone didn't show how much storage was on the SD card. And after a hard reset the PC wouldn't even recognize it. I think the phone killed my sd card
Hello,
My device sm p605 rooted by de la vega root method.
I m looking for a method to move my app+data on my external sd card. I tried many methods but no one is working with my device.
I tried:
- link2sd partioning external sd card into 1st partition fat32 + 2nd in ext2: It generates a script with shortcut linking but after reboot when I launch linked app It collapses with message of incompatible device blablabla.
- mount folder: doesnt work and not free
- Directory bind doesn t work?
So if someone succeeded in moving app + data on external card, It would be very helpfull he explain the good method. Thank you.
FolderMount works for me.
Try settings -> General -> Application manager -> (swipe left) SD CARD -> Checkbox any app you with to move.
If it is check marked, it should now on the SD card instead. I know for fact this moves the app itself, but haven't tested to see if it moves the data too. This is the native App2SD introduced in 4.3, hope that helps.

That only moves the app & data to the /sdcard/ partition, which is on internal memory, not on the actual microSD card, which is mounted as /extSDcard/.
Folder Mount works great and is free. I haven't tried to move the APK's folder with it, as I'm pretty sure that would break stuff badly (boot-loops when apps try to launch during startup), but the APK's are usually not that big and you can have tons of apps installed on even the S4 16GB which only gives you 9GB to start with (I have something like 30GB of apps installed on mine). The majority of the data used by apps lives in /android/data/obb/ and /android/data/data/ which you can move. I have ran into boot-loops moving some folders because an app (especially GameLoft ones) try to launch on boot but they launch before FolderMount has a chance to mount folders, so they crash the OS and send you into a boot-loop until you remove the SD card. That's on my Note 10.1 (2014). On my Galaxy S4, I don't have any boot-loops and I'm redirecting more than I am on my Note. You can stop apps from starting on boot using Gemini App Manager or Autorun Manager (can only control up to 10 apps with free version), so that's a good solution for the boot-loop. Not sure why so many folders cause boot-loops on my Note when they don't on my S4, but whatever. Maybe the S4 mounts the SD card and the FolderMounts faster, or it has something to do with the JellyBean's ROM on the S4.
Anyway, use Folder Mount. I don't know of any other valid solutions.

If you have Xposed Framework installed, Boot Manager is the best autorun manager. Simple and to the point.
Hello,
Im experiencing really weird problem that never happened to me and now Im trying to find a solution but I cant find anything and I dont really want to format my phone because it would solve this problem only for some time.
The problem Im experiencing is regarding to my storage / sd card.. when I install any app it will make folder on my phone storage and not on SD Card even tho I selected to install apps on my SD Card. Another problem is that when I try to move that file that is placed in my phone storage to my SD Card then it wont clear any space from phone storage but the file is gone - and then when I run the app it says that I need to download additional datas and when I press download data it just say that my storage is full and I got 45gb free SD card and almost full phone memory even when I moved 1,5GB file to sd card .. I really dont know what to do..
Im also adding screenshot of my used space where you can clearly see that my apps on phone memory got 4GB and other files got around few hundred mbs but my free space is ONLY 500 MB and graph showing I should have around 6GB of free space..
Thanks for any help
EDIT: Im not rooted and running latest stock ROM
What app are you trying to delete the files in? Doesn't it have trash or something?
It doesnt matter what application Im trying to move (Im not uninstalling them or deleting) its happening to every app.
Anyone please?
i got this concern too. i want to install large games with obb files, but even if i transfer manually the obb files to ext sd/android/obb folder the game always says "download additional files" . in short the game can't find or locate the obb file due to some limitation on ext card permissions to read and write. im not sure on other devices. but i do believe thats how default android system is. :crying:
Correct me if im wrong but i guess the only solution here is to root our zf2 and install folder mount . forgive me for my first post. newbie here
Asus Zenfone 2 ZE551ML

Asus 2.20.40.160

well.. first of all u must know this fact that there are only few apps are present which can install on sd cards.. 90% of apps are developed to install on internal storage, if u will move them to sd card, they will not run.. and copying appdata files directly frm file explorer never solves this problem.. it will eat ur double space only.. there is specific way of doing this.. but only for those which supports installlation on sd card.
now ur problem of space, just clean ur junkfiles.. use xplore file explorer, enable 'show hidden files' and check one by one that which folder and file is eating ur storage.
if it doesnt work.. only last option is hard reset from stock recovery.
What is the main difference between internal storage and sd card? I dont get it why it shouldnt also work from the sd card.. and I was told by others that if I root my phone and download specific app / change settings I will be able to install to my sd card too. I was also normally installing my stuff on sd card when I had previous phone with 4.2 Android. With all these things I really shouldnt buy 128gb card that cost me 40€ because there is 95% of free space and I cant move anything (applications) to it.

yeah.. during 4.4 time.. apps were sd card freindly, but nowdays its rare.. bcoz every app developer is in race of superiority.. internal sd gives better r/w speed, and its not removable so that app can run 24/7 on your device.. dats y they make apps to install on sd.
dont get dissappointed.. your problem is solved in andoid 6.0 marshmellow, it gives u option of using external sd card as phone's internal storage. as soon as u insert the sd card.. it will ask you that how to use it.. as a portable storage or as a internal storage..
So plz go get buy 128 gb ssd.

your phone may be full of junks.. plz make backup of your important data.. hard reset it.. hard reset is required evry 3-4 months. just do it.. it wil solve ur problem.. other wise if u are rooted then get the root explorer and delete the un necessary files from root.
Oh thats great that Android 6 will make my sd card work again. But now there is that issue that Asus is working so slowly on Android 6 :<
is there a "trash" folder? every time i delete things, they disappear, but the space doesnt free up. i also have the same problem as the original poster: my apps and all files only take up about 6.5 Gb, but my free space is only 800Mb out of 11.5Gb...i downloaded "diskusage" and it shows 4.9Gb of "system files" but i cant find them using my file manager or storage screen (this is in addition to the 4.6 Gb of "system reserved" space)
I tried to show hidden files and found a ".trash" folder, but there isnt anything in it
use ES file explorer , it has a feature to find all junk. Also ZF2 is not deleting files from gallery , it stores them in .trash. Check that too.
hi to all
how to fix probleme can't write access to external sd on android 6 HTC M8
i try many tutorial but no one work with apk with xposed
is there any solution
I'm not clear: Are you trying to grant SD card write permission to xposed? Or tried to use xposed to fix the SD card write problem?
Not personally an xposed user. But if you have general issue with other apps not being able to write to SD card, I might be able to help.

Changing your backup location in TB is a bit convoluted, and a pain in the rear. I just had to do this on another device a couple weeks ago, and had to fumble with it for a while before getting it right.
In TB, press Menu, select Preferences, then select "Backup folder location". Tap "Click to Change" (auto detect never seems to "see" the SD card). Then you will see different file system options. Honestly, I don't completely understand the differences between them. I picked "DocumentProvider storage". Then I tapped the 3-line menu button on the upper right. Selected the SD card, and tapped "Select" button on the lower right. After that, I was able to "see" the SD card in TB and read/write to the SD card.
Now, your description of apps not detecting the SD at all, or saying it writes to the SD, but no files show up, is a bit more worrisome. It suggests more than a permissions problem. Might make sense to format the SD card. Be sure to copy/backup any important data on the SD (if that is needed or even possible at this point) before formatting. Since formatting will erase all data on the SD.

The first time you try to save a file (or create folder) in ES Explorer, does the file selector appear (and lets you select the SD card)?

With Android 10 (or a 3rd party OS based on it) which I was following this guide for (unable to post link):
install-android-10-on-motorola-moto-g5-lineageos-17-1-how-to-guide
I just wanted to know if it allows you to move apps to external storage, because right now; they install whereever they want, and it seems like most prefer internal storage. I have obviously got an microSD card (a sandisk extreme pro 128GB with 90MB/s write in crystal disk mark). The small internal storage for me is the only issue I have which would be fixed with a way to choose default storage location (there is another issue of it not being clear if the place you want to save a file in on internal or external storage). Also I do have the SD card configured as internal storage.
I just installed an app to record voice calls (automatic call recorder), which has installed on the internal storage. I recorded a message from my three mobile top up but the recording was very difficult to understand even when played back at 70% volume on my PC headphones. I need it because I'm dealing with a company called repairtech.co.uk who told me that the reason they returned my monitor with a cracked screen was because I packed it incorrectly in the provided box (instead of packing material there are some hooks which suspend the monitor in the box with minimal aircushions). Since it was an out of warranty repair, I paid £80 for the evaluation that I needed to fork out for a completely new screen. I only found out about the crack when I overheard a conversation being made on my behalf and checked the box.
I can't do this upgrade right now because I need to have access to my bank account while I try to buy a new GPU which is available from tomorrow.
Edit:
Unlocked bootloader
Fastboot drivers installed on PC
I just tried but could not find a sticky or some such to get these pre-requisites.
Format sd card as internal storage & all data will be stored there
Advantages - more internal storage
Disadvantages - will only work on the device that formatted it as internal. You can't remove it & put it in another device without formatting it. Same for for if you want to change roms potentially.
A fast sd card is also required
Apps can't be "moved" to external storage (from android 5) in the way you are suggesting. Some apps like widgets will even break if you tried
Call recording works - you shouldn't need a 3rd party app on some roms as you can just hit record from the dialer but this is rom dependant.
Try using another dialer that can record or try on lineage mint in the Dev section - you may be using a very old rom if you are following some random guide you found on the net

Is this showing the correct screen for a internally formatted SD card? It does have some apps on it including kindle, but as I said it seems to decide for itself wether it will install on the sd card or not. There is no raid like pool of storage as you can see from the 2nd screenshot.
Will the moto g5 recieve a 3rd party upgrade to Android 11?

You can't "move" apps natively to sd card - it will break many apps
Can't see screenshots as you haven't linked correctly - post full link (put spaces in address if you can't post links)
It is also up to the app where it installs in the Manifest of the app - you may find the apk is installed on internal and the data is on the sdcard
Data will be in the android/data and android/obb folder
When sdcard is formatted as internal you will see the total size of internal storage has increased
If you remove the sdcard you may find some apps will no longer function correctly so you will know its on sdcard
Also you should have selected to transfer data to sdcard when you first format it as internal

Nothing wrong with those screenshots
Unfortunately this is just how android works and your device looks to be functioning correctly
If you are rooted you can use other methods to move apps to sdcard eg link2sd (requires sdcard with a second ext4 partition) but the more apps you symlink to sdcard the slower your phone may become. Make sure you link & not forcefully move as some apps like widgets will not function if forcefully moved and not symlinked to sdcard
Also note I haven't used this app in about 10years so no idea if it still functions on latest versions of android as it hasn't been updated in a few years
You will have to Google other root methods
