You can also download Navigon from the Microsoft Store if you need a real car navigation and you are not from USA or Canada...
But watchout the maps and the application uses a lot of space and you can not install the maps tou your SD card...
gMaps from the Store uses google maps.. as far as i remember it rotates the map and it is pretty useful as a car navigation...

Yes, gMaps are the best solution to me for now cause i came from country far away from the US or Canada. To bad there is no offline support but it`s ok.Thanks.
Nokia Drive extended to more countries it's also called Here Drive now!
http://conversations.nokia.com/2013...ransit-for-other-windows-phone-8-smartphones/
It supports now:
You can download the HERE suite now from the Windows Phone store in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, UK, France, Germany, Italy or Spain (a local SIM card required).
No luck for me with my HTC 8S.The memory is the problem.

does anybody have any experience of GPS for Limerick,Ireland??
gps
hi m8.....im using xda1, with a car kit and wired haicom gps. while it works fine, mapping software for ireland is ****. the best i found was mapopolis, which is a free download, and i figured out how to hack the maps, and also to enable voice prompts. so try it, and download the limerick map, if there is one. the dublin map is good, but once u leave the major cities, only main roads are mapped. i also use gpsdash.
I use mapopolis too, its crap in the country, great in the cities! I also use tomtom routeplanner. Its BRILLIANT in the country every little back road is there, even lanes with grass growing on the middle of the road!!, but the cities are **** and it does not do 'active navigation' for re-routing. All that it is is a scrolling map, but it does plan routes and shows it on the screen so you simply follow the road.
I have heard that Viamichelin have good 3D software for Ireland, but its €200!! with NO GPS reciever see:
http://www.shop.viamichelin.co.uk/csasp_editorial.asp?ID=96
Hope this helps
i have been wondering about which software is better for Nav. and real GPS locations. ROute 66 (which by the site, they say Dash is not compadible) or CoPilot? is it worth buying the receiver they offer, or any others in particular? thanks!
The 2 free apps, Google mobile and Windows Live Search, both work well. Google is bit harder to make work because you need to mess with the registry to make the port available. But either one does a good job. WHat you wont get with these freebies is turn by turn spoken directions.
I use Live Search on my Dash with a Globalsat BT GPS receiver. Works great.

ok, cool.. thanks for the info.. what is the difference between the google maps just using your phone wi-fi and have a gps reciever? do you just get real time of a location?
what about using maps? i have route66 u.s.a maps but no software though! is there a way to load just the maps and use it with Live or Google?
i have the software but no maps!!! We need to trade
i dont even know how load the maps (if possible) without the software..
Hi, I'm looking for a google maps style program which I can actually download a map pack for to use to navigate to places... I don't have gps and I don't want to use the internet, I just want to do a search for a street address.
I live in Australia and was wondering if anyone knew a good program which would suite me?
Thanks heaps
You could always install tomtom with aussie maps as you can browse the maps even if there is no gps signal...
Any reason why you don't wanna use the net? I find its one of the main features of the phone...
well, I do use the net on the phone for some things... but I really just want to store the maps so I don't have to download each time like with google maps.
How do I go about getting tomtom? I think I did actually have tomtom on the phone when I first got it, but it wouldn't start without a gps plugged in.
The maps cost money don't they?
Is there a free alternative at all?
I have the Garmin 10x bluetooth GPS reciever that came with maps, and even does voice tun by turn. I use it when driving. It was 120.00USD, but I believe that you can get oz maps too.

Dear All,
I come from Symbian (N95, N96, N97, i8910) and would like to switch to Android (HTC Desire) but I would like to ask some questions:
1) is Call Recording possible on HTC Desire ?. This is a must for me cos I work as a truck driver and it's not possible for me to write tel. numbers etc. whilst driving so it's very handy to listen to recorded calls later . . (this option is not possible on the i8910 cos Samsung blocked it through firmware) so now I carry 2 mobile phones N95 for call recording and i8910 for Garmin Navigation)
2) is there a way to run garmin or any sat. navigation software that uses garmin maps (.img) on the HTC Desire please.
Thanks for reading and sorry for my english
I haven't found a way to record calls on the HTC Desire natively but there might be apps you can get from the market which are able to do so. And on the satnav software that allows for Garmin maps i'm not sure but CoPilot is quite good satNav software software but i don't know if it will support Malta (if thats where you live). And i'm not sure if it allows for .img maps. Sorry i wasn't much help :S
There are a few call recording apps on Market (mixed results depending on what phone /OS version you have) and I use CoPilot, which is a very good Sat Nav application for the bargain price of £26 for UK/Ireland and cheap map upgrades for other world regions.
Bare in mind that Google Maps now has UK navigation included free so you can use that until you get a full-on package

Google maps OK as long as you have solid data coverage and tariff to suit. If your roaming it can get pricey. Took me a while to get used to Copilot coming from TomTom but now I have Copilot 8 has more features than a base model tomtom and nice and fast.
i'm looking for it...
I didn't know there was any offline map from google. As far as I know, all you can do is calculating the route and saving the map parts needed for your trip.
I use mapdroyd for offline maps. Have not found a suitable solution for google maps yet. Mapdroyd works just fine, you should give it a try...
