TPU w/ Aluminum Bumper? What? - Galaxy S III Accessories

Has anyone purchased a case like this? I am assuming that it is a TPU case with an aluminum bezel thingy around the outside. I would like to see it on a phone to see how much thicker it makes the phone (it looks to be a very thin alternative to a full aluminum bezel). I also am curious as to if it is actually TPU or another material. Thoughts?

P.S. It is also fairly cheap.

It doesnt mention that its TPU.
To me, it looks like a plastic back. I think that if it fell, the clips would break that hold the back to the aluminum.

looks like aluminum and polycarbonate to me, I doubt it's TPU. TPU isn't brittle enough to clip like that, which is why you don't see many TPU cases for slider phones.

That would be sweet though if it were made with TPU along the back with that bezel. Looks nice.

Good hardcases?

Hi,
I just bought a SGS2 and I´m looking for good protection for it. I have a the top Ottercase case for my Atrix but it´s super bulky and it bothers me in my jeans pocket after sometime. What good, similar, thiner alternatives do I have? I really like the fact that the Otter cases use a non adherisive screen cover though.
Thoughts?
thanks
Rafa

You should actualy read what is written before posting sarcastic comments. I´m asking for ALTERNATIVES to the Otter cases.
I've got a case-mate pop!case. It adds a little bulk, but I actually kind of like the new dimensions of the phone. It's got a hard outer shell with a rubberized inner shell and sides. We have a member who did a pretty good review of it here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41Ry0Lnhva4
Casemate Pop is a great case, better than the Casemate tough imo.
Otterbox Commuter series (not the super bulky version) has just been released too.
Thanks, guys. The casemate pop cases look really cool with the little colapsible stand. Does it also have a no adhesive protection for the screen? It´s also pricier than the Otter.

it doesn't come with a screen protector film of any kind, but the edges of the case are slightly raised to protect the screen from making contact with a surface when laid flat.
Screen protectors can be bought separately, letting you customize exactly what kind you want, from a cheapie static flim, all the way up to a $30 sgp glas cover.
Thanks for the link to the review, didn't know the Pop existed.
I have the Tough case and I'm not so sure the Pop is a batter case.
The Tough has hard left and right sides and soft top and botton, the Pop is the reverse. If you spend most of your time holding the phone in portrait view you would want harder sides. The harder sides also means less dust gets in under the case.
The tough also has a proper cut out around the head phone port, If you have an angled jack on your headphones it won't fit the Pop.
The Pop is also deeper than the Tough, i.e. the Pop is the same depth all over the back, the Tough has the lip just the phone back.
However, the Pop does seem easier to take on/off and it's not black which is a plus.

True story about the angled headphone jacks.
As far as the portrait view, the soft rubber sides make it easier to grip. I prefer them that way.
Not sure about the dust yet, I've only had the case a few days.
I´ve just saw that the galaxy I bought actually comes with a barely there casemate. I guess I´ll look for a protective film for the screen now...I had the invisible shield for a while on my regular galaxy s but I found it stuck too much to your fingers...I was thinking of maybe getting one of those bestskinever films.

Make sure you take it out and give it a clean at least once a week. Dust and grime builds up just under the edges with all cases and the SGS2's shiny bezel could get stained, just the the iPhone 3s.
Are there any slim cases (hard of course) that also cover the top? I have the Pop case and I love it, but I also want a slim case that isn't TPU or silicone. I have the Ringke Rearth cases, too, and they're fantastic. But i'd simply like a hard case, too. Any ideas?
Im ordering one like you mean both soft & hard case with full protection, directly from korean not sgp which not included the top area

these cases look really nice, i might have to buy one to try.
bought one thanks for the heads up !
Ordered one of each, thanks for the heads up.
THE PRIME GT-I9250
I ordered the TPU case. I read some reviews of Nillkin cases in the other phone forums and they were very good.
I ordered one but cancelled after they quoted 3-6 weeks delivery time! I don't know what's going on with China these days, the last few times I ordered things it took forever. They do look beautiful - the textured back looks grippy.
Had a couple of Nillkin cases for my SGS2 they were fine. These should be as good as those.
How come the TPU has no cutout for the volumerocker?
What advantages has the TPU over the hardcase?

TPU case is similar to a "gel" or silicone case. I like it because it covers the top and bottom of the phone where the hardcase doesn't
I just bought a One X and two cases:
Nillkin TPU and hard case.
I hope everything will arrive today! But maybe just this weekend
I would image the TPU cases don't have cutouts because you don't need a cutout with such soft rubber. But that's just a guess. (for now!)

Probably no cutout because you can press them through a case.
In order to protect your phone when you drop it, a case has to slow your phone down gradually and absorb the force of the impact when it hits the pavement which is what a soft case does. A hard case just transfers that force straight to the phone so they're almost useless if you drop it. Hard cases are for preventing scratches only... but then if you get a grain of sand inbetween the case and the phone, it will make more scratches than if you didnt have it.

And a TPU case prevents the grain of sand getting there?
Also i'm guessing that if you press the rocker through the case you won't feel any 'click'?
some TPU cases have the click feel to it and some have a thicker TPU casing which doesn't have the click feel. I purchased a TPU case off of HandheldItems and the power/volume buttons all have a click feel to them.

Probably a better chance than a hard case since the soft cases tend to wrap around the phone more completely, and end up flush against the phone body with no gap.

Nillkin case.
i got a nillkin hard case in white and i have to say its quite nice. It may look like an ordinary case but the back of it is textured with grip and the sides are glossy and shiny like the one X. It raise the back of the phone very slightly so the camera lens doesn't get scratched easily. for under 20bucks i must say im quite impressed with it. it comes with a screen protector which i haven't tried to put on since i suck at it and a tiny cleaning cloth.
Ordered hard case two days ago.
I just ordered the black TPU case. Will let y'all know when it arrives and if it is worth the purchase.

Hard case. There is a cutout for the volumerocker.
Edit: typo, my baaadd! Hard case has a cutout .

Plasticy Case?

Anyone know if there is a decent Plastic type case for our T989? I'm looking for something that will emulate the back cover feel. I don't like silicone cases and really looking for something that will protect the phone but have basically the same feel that it does right now.
Basically I want it to take some punishment but be able to take it out of my pocket easilly like it does now.
The diztronic TPU cases seem to fit your criteria. I have one and like it. It's not silicon and stays on quite firmly. I've dropped my phone many times with no dings or scratches. Without a case, the t989 actually is too thin sometimes.
i got a smoke color TPU from ebay and its smooth and glossy like the back cover - doesnt feel too rubbery or too much like plastic
Try this case i bought on amazon. its not very expensive and it has a hard plastic back but the sides are TPU material. the case feels great on my phone and its very snug. it can surely take a beating and it doesnt add much bulk to the phone. i recommend it.
only downside is that the power and volume buttons are not cut out but everything else is.
i still highly recommend it. if you look under the sellers page and type t989 in the search bar it will give you more of the same case in different colors.

case for edge to edge display?

the case i have makes it hard to swipe from the edges. anyone have a recommendation of a cool case that leaves some room around the edges of the display?
What case you do you have? my O'Box Commuter makes it difficult but my Griffin Reveal is substantially easier.

i honestly don't know... its the only one they had at the Verizon store when i got it.
the case does not cover the edges of the display, but i can only see a thin thin line of the bezel between the case and the screen.
I have this one and it's pretty cool, no problems with it.

I just got this one today it comes up the sides just to the edge of the screen and doesn't come above it, covers the beloved dimple, but hardly adds any size to the phone to wreck the feel in the hand.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EDI7QFM/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I also have the below Incipio, better protection but ruined the shape of the phone I couldn't even leave it on a whole day.

Does this have the "sandpaper" texture to it? It looks exactly like this case, except this one is hard: Amazon, Sandpaper Case
I have this case. Very slim, doesn't have a lip to protect the screen when you set it down but it gives you the edge to edge swipe you want.
http://www.amazon.com/Poetic-Palett...&qid=1383968176&sr=1-1&keywords=moto+x+poetic
I'm using the poetic palette as well.
I like it so far, but I also like the diatonic for the protection, button feel, and lip protection. However, the diatonic feels a bit too fat.

I wouldn't call it sandpaper but it does have a slightly rough texture.
I think the Anker, Sandpaper, Bear Motion and the Poetic are all the same case with different branding.

I think the Sandpaper one is a hard case though. The Anker is flexible. I'm leaning towards the Anker--but yes. You're correct.
i got the quicksand. same as the anker sandpaper bear motion. it feels great and does not slide on slick surfaces. i think its the perfect case. only downside is it does not protect the glass.
i am giving away a couple of them maybe a few. over on the moto x support forums. go comment with an idea for the phone and get a chance to win it.

Anyone try the Reveal case by Griffin? How does it compare to the SUPCASE monkey082506 had posted a link to earlier in this thread?

Phone cases - Rubber vs Plastic

I'm curious as to current thoughts on the whole rubber v plastic cases debate. I'd like to go with a rubber case personally as I like the feel and generally think they are less intrusive, but at the end of the day, I'm buying a case for protection over anything else.
What is the current thoughts in 2013 about case types, and who is the leading brand? Is otter boxes still way ahead of most of the competition?
i used otterbox defender for 10 months and switched over to an aluminum bumper on my note 2, which is slightly better because of the bulk

rubber. always rubber.
Actually, a hybrid with fused rubber/plastic is a much better alternative; like UAG cases.
one rubber case saved my phone more times, for 1$ una tantum
very good!
:good:
I usually get cases made of flexible plastic, but hard plastic mixed with rubber is pretty awesome too, like an otterbox
I would go with rubber. Seems to offer better shock protection
Rubber for me too.
I prefer to feel the original cover of the phone. However, as it may fall anyhow i've just ordered a plastic crystal cover to protect it without losing the view of the beautiful back of my white Nexus 5.
rubber ftw
more elastic i think
rubber and plastic
Rubber for me too.
Rubber for me too.
Some rubber cases are pretty much dust magnets so beware of those. Other than that, I'd generally still stick with rubber over plastic mainly because I feel that it absorbs shock/ fall damage a lot better than plastic. With plastic, feels more like crack on impulse. I have an Otterbox Defender and I dropped my phone while holding the door for someone and well, phone was still functioning so glad Otterbox worked. However, i haven't tried any other brands.
I did read about other phone case makers using fancy names like silicone, TPU, and what not. No clue what they are, but would be interesting to see an actual in-depth review of that.
