Best ONE X Camera App? - HTC One X

Hi Guys,
I know there are similar threads, BUT the ONE X does have a very special camera, and I was wondering if anybody has had any luck with any specific Camera Apps yet?
Here are a few that I've tried so far, but nothing too special to be honest:
1. Camera 360
2. Paper Camera
3. Stock Camera App
So far Camera 360 is probably the best, but I've heard good things about Camera FV-5 and Camera Zoom FX?

When you say camera 360 is probaly the best, in what way?
Lower compression would be great, but I wonder how much the imagesense chip will restrict this and can third party camera apps bypass this process. I have tried camera fv-5 and there does seem to be a little less compression, which allows for slightly more detail, also you can save in png, but there is no zoom function.

All third party apps bypass ImageSense. I love Camera360. Way less compression, and the available filters are pretty cool too, better than Instagram~

I use now Camera ICS.
This one can disable the compression (at least it says so) and indeed the files get much bigger (100% in jpeg mode instead of 90 or 95%)
And since it still is JPG, you still can use the EXIF info.
I tried some others, but they did miss options or did also compress or the lighting was worse, or .......

I've tried a lot of 3rd party camera apps and, honestly, I find the stock HTC app to be the best.
Camera FV-5 is very good though.

Camera360 was great until some background process started to overheat My HOX, and I uninstalled it..

Stock HTC app has the best UI, but the worst image quality.

Hmm, can't say I've ever had this problem.

You may find this of interest, I have done a quick comparison between these camera apps.
1. Camera 360
2. Camera ICS
3. Camera FV-5
4. HTC Camera
You may find the results surprising, please visit the following link to the HTC ONE Users Group at Flickr http://www.flickr.com/groups/htc-one/discuss/72157629696073156/

Ive just been using stock ive had no problems with it

Stock is better than camera zoom fx, that thing may have bigger files but it is grainy in low light and over exposed everywhere else (unless you like that).
I can get better pictures using stock and the opening gallery and clicking that edit button.
If you click edit > effects then edit at the top you can manually edit all the filtering

The thing about the camera apps is that you can control exposure way more than you can with the stock app. If you were serious about taking pictures on the HOX, you'd be fiddling with every setting there is Stock camera definitely has the better metering, but I still believe that image quality wise, there's still way too much compression. I'll try to do a comparison some day.

Good camera apps?

Hi, have been using stock sgs camera. Its okay.. but was wondering if there's a better camera app out there.
When I had my HTC magic, camera 360 really improved the quality of the photos.
But when I compare the photos I took on my sgs from the stock camera app vs camera 360, I kinda prefer the stock camera colours.

Have you tried Vignette. It has loads of different settings.
I've only tried the demo version of vignette. And that does not allow the 5mpx resolutions to be used. Besides the array of settings, does vignette actually improve the quality of the photos taken? Thanks.

The full version of Vignette does indeed take better quality images, but it takes significantly more time to process the photos.
i just tried vignette and the quality was near enough the same .. refunded it cos it wasnt worth the money
the camera is the only thing i dont like about this phone
Have you tried the Photoshop app? Its not exactly a camera application but it has lots of settings for touching photos up afterwards. Maybe one of the filters will give you the effect you require
I too would pay for a real pro app. Something that will take higher res panorama shots and something with a real HDR function. By real I mean not a simulation and not tone mapping from the gallery pics. There's a app for the iDevices that works wonders on the iP4. Tried everything so far, still waiting.
Try: camera 360 pro

360 pro simulates HDR and simulates a lot of other stuff, we need a app that actually takes better shots etc. At least that's my experience with it.
The camera apps on the android market are really sub-par.
I don't use the camera much to begin with, but an app as good as Hipstamatic or Camera Pro like on the iPhone would be great.
Vignette has an ugly interface and has average picture quality, and Retro Camera has horrible picture quality.

Best camera app for desire

Hi guys. Which in your opinion is the best all round camera app for the Desire? The stock camera I have is ok but am sure there are apps out there which will improve the camera so am asking for your recommendations.
Many thanks
Anyone? lol
I've only really ever used the stock camera to be honest.
Camera360 is quite good in my opinion... Lots of options.
i've tried most of the Cam apps on the market ... and the Stock is the best and fastest.
Cheers for your help guys Will have a look at camera360 and give it a go.
I've tried a few camera apps, but stock Camera application on Froyo is the best and simpliest.
If you want better photos, try shot the picture without battery cover!

Don't bother unless you want cheap/crappy effects. Best thing you can do is to set up you desire camera properly. Just play with the sharpness, contrast etc settings. And for effects use something like pic pro or photoshop express.

My old post with setting. Fair bit of noise, but that's because lighting is far from adequate for desires sensor. You get nice and vivid colours in day time. Only thing, sharpness has to be +1, +2 is a bit too much.

I just pushed my lens cover out completely. Get a little bit of dust, but nothing that can't be sorted out with a good blow and wipe.
stick to the stock camera app! it's the best!
I use Camera360 and Vignette, both for pretty nice effects. I rarely use the stock camera, because even with the right settings (posted above) pictures still look a bit crappy to me.
I tried nearly all of the camera apps out of the market. The best one in my opinion is "Camera Advance". It has a user interface and settings like you find on the compact digital cameras and makes better pics than the stock one. It has a good autofocus function and a great preview after taking a picture.

The stock camera app. really is the best imo. If you want to add some post production effects then something like Camera360 will do the job.
I like lgCameraPro IMHO it is more usable.

Camera App

Just wondering is there a better app than the stock one? If so what app are you using?
I tried Camera FX and dont really like it.
Try Camera ICS, Camera Pro and/or lgCamera...
Please use the search function before posting a thread. This has been asked many, many times!
well since there doesn't seem to be a conclusion on what is a good replacement for the htc cam app, so that we can finally go AOSP/AOKP and get rid of this terrible thing so wrongly named sense, I find this topic is relevant.
For standard picture taking Camera FV-5 is absolutely brilliant with all the options you have at hand, but it lacks video as well as burst mode support.
The hardest task will be to find a camcorder app that can capture slow mo videos though, haven't found one that can do it as nice as the htc app till date...

possible to get better pics with another camera app??

So I'm coming from an S4 which i thought had probably the best camera out there. While the One's camera is pretty good, I occasionally get blurry or not so great pics. I was wondering if another camera app might produce more consistent pics, or if it is what it is.
I don't want to sound like I'm complaining about the camera, it's just I'm trying to see if there are ways to get better pics.

Yeah, that's kinda what I've been reading. Don't get me wrong it's not horrible, I just wish it gave more consistently good pics.
Anyone reading this, have you adjusted any settings to get better pics?
I think it's software. For example, I sometimes get pink tint or a little blur with the stock camera app. But I also have vignette camera, and there is no pink tint or blur when I take pics with that camera. The only problem is vignette needs to update their app to work properly with the One, because it's only allowing 3mp pictures, not the full 4. :/

I also believe it to be software as not everyone has the issue.
I think it will be fixed soon with an OTA.
I 3rd party app actually may work better.

Both your problems can be solved by changing the camera settings.
The colour cast can be fixed by changing the white balance, and if you set the ISO higher, your shots should be less blurry (but slightly more grainy).
The "scene" settings can be handy, and if you pick the one to suit the lighting, it should give good results.
You could also practice holding the camera steady.
I really like the stock camera.

That's as may be, but the auto setting should automatically give you the right settings...It is on HTC to fix this, because we don't always have time to change the settings to get the one in a million shot of my 10 year old!
I have noticed that the Night setting gives me a better result...And I love to tweak my settings, but I wish it was easier to get to them. Maybe some "hot" buttons!

Best replacement camera app for LGG4?

Has anyone tried any replacement camera apps for the LGG4? Don't get me wrong, I like the stock camera but I do think it lacks a little in features (in auto mode). I tried 'Open Camera' and I really like the extra features but It only has 4x zoom instead of the 8x the stock camera handles. I also don't know if any 3rd party camera apps take full advantage of the G4's laser focus and color spectrum analyzer? Another feature that I like in 'Open Camera' is the ability to select scenes such as back light, indoors, macro and candle light. I know the G4 stock app has automatic scene selection but I like a little more control.
So what do you guys think? The big thing is if any 3rd party apps take full advantage of the G4's hardware? If so, what are some feature packed camera apps?
ProShot for me. Little slow to focus but with ISO 50 and NR off the daylight shots are just amazing.

Has it some filters to preview a shot before take it? that's the only thing I miss from the stock camera, the ability to use filters before taking pictures, because sometimes don't have time or mood to postprocess. Thanks!

I woulden't be over concerned by the low zoom capabilities of Open camera. Zoom only degrades the quality and sharpness of the picture anyway... If you really have to use it, i woulden't recommend you go beyond 4x. Other thing, no 3rd party camera app can fully utilize all of the G4's features and capabilities. It's simply not possible, as of yet anyway. So, my advice to you and everyone else is, use the default camera app as it is quite powerfull if you know how to manage the manual settings .
Here is a link that explains in detail the manual mode:

Anyone seen a camera app that has a fancy animated facial recognition reticle like the Galaxy Edge Plus/Note 5's have? It actually moves across the screen and targets a detected face in the scene. I know that it is completely gingerbread, but it would be a pretty cool feature!

Found that there's a free demo for this at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riseupgames.proshot_free
Which is nice to try it out. Very restrictive demo, allowing only 2 full res shots. I'm keen to try out the low ISO with the NR off you mention (as I've yet to see a photo at this handset level beat the G4 in a decent lit outdoor shot), but my handset went hot as hell whilst running the demo, possibly showing its using all the available processer power but a bit unsettling for potential longer usage.
:edit: unistalled and let handset cool down. Reinstalled and handset ran uncomfortably hot again. Shame, but thanks for the recommendation.
Hi, just got an LG G4 today and tried a few camera apps. Stock is great and since it has a manual raw mode, no need for 3rd party apps imho.
ProShot is nice and does show a low res preview of dngs in its viewer (useful to send them to PS Express for instance); BUT I have noticed that it does only goes to 0,6s in manual exposure (while stock goes to 30s). So for (ocasional) dng viewing I will use Slingshot Portfolio and for the processing, PS Express, much friendlier than Photomate (which yields slightly sharper pics, but with much worse color balance...)
Snap HDR Camera has an interesting low light mode that merges multiple exposures to increase detail / lower noise, BUT then again you can use manual long exposures in the stock app, which in dark conditions will give better results.
For panos I prefer Google's camera interface and options .
Anyway, those are my quick impressions.
You made my day! Thank you!
This one (especially ability to switch off NR) gives me the best from the G4
Tweaking sharpness and NR should be native and available in Stock camera app in manual mode
Shame on you LG!

hey Kemby13,
what exactly do you think can proshot or camera fv-5 or other camera apps not utilize from the hardware?
I'm considering buying the LG G4 but have similar thoughts as the thread starter. I'm comfortable with manual modes on cameras and shoot/edit raw with my DSLR but I'm looking for more or better auto modes than the stock camera app can offer. Also lots of reviews show that the auto mode of the G4 is not as good as images taken in auto mode with other smartphones (I'm not speaking of what the LG camera is capable of once it is used in manual mode). I thought that maybe other apps give better images in auto modes than the stock app (plus more options/scene modes). I often find myself in situations where I don't have the time to setup in manual mode but would like to tell the app to at least use a fast shutter speed (sports mode) etc.
my second concern is because I love custom roms. and even though there are hardly any out there for the G4 I'd still try the few available ones and would need a good camera app. Proshot etc will work on any rom (yes, the shutter speed is reduced to max. 0,7).
But what else would I be losing?
To the thread starter: have you reached a solution? I'd be very curious to know.
Thx and greetz,
vercetti.
Proshot doesn't have HDR that I can find. I don't recall if Camera FV-5 does but I prefer the custom modes of Proshot to FV-5.
I would settle for an app that can take pictures using flash in half the time that mine currently does.
I am waiting for Almalence's Better Camera to support camera api2 on the LG G4, so we can test its SUPER mode on our phone, similar to Google Camera's HDR+. I wonder how it would compare to LG's own Night mode.
According to the developper, it's planned and in alpha stage.
Did you guys find any app that can get to 30" shutter speed? It seems like I can only get that with the stock app.
