T-Mobile Shadow Home on Dash? - HTC Excalibur

I was just in the T-mobile store and was blown away by the shadows interface. What are the chances of the shadow homescreen getting ported to the dash? Anyone else play with it? what do you all think?

I say there is a pretty good chance, especially for other smartphones that are not the landscape resolution 320x240 but rather 240x320 like the Shadow. I wonder if it's just a simple .xml file or is it new software. Anyone know?

As my belief, it can never be a simple .xml
Is there any body has a Shadow? maybe they can provide some clue

I have a Shadow -- nope, it's not just a XML file -- it does quite a bit. Prior to release, I did see a screenshot of it somewhere on a landscape device, and it had the jog-bar icon in the status-bar, so I assumed the screenshot came from a Dash. I think somewhere, it already exists for a Dash.
Personally, I wouldn't be surprised to see it included in a future ROM update for the Dash.
Hope so, as it's so useful I'm willing to go without FizzWeather or Facade for my homescreen just to use it.
The Shadow itself is another story though -- it's much faster than the Dash, but the call quality is so bad that I'm returning mine. Not worth using up an annual upgrade, but a nice preview of things to come

glad to hear that hope the new interface come to dash earlier.

Appears that someone was already able to put the dumped Shadow ROM in this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=348930&highlight=shadow+neo+interface
My wife wants the full qwerty keyboard of the Dash but likes the interface of the Shadow SO hopefully someone much smarter than myself will be able to help with putting it on the Dash

TouchFLO 2D

I'm not exactly sure if the TouchFLO has to be on a touch screen phone, but I've seen pics of this 2D version of TouchFLO floatin' around and I'm wondering if it can be ported to our phones?
Anyone know?

After a bit of searching.
Still seems to be for PPC

Shucks. Maybe in time...
all the cabs are available in xda development and hacking forum. But the total install is around 26mb. I installed on my tilt last night and its pretty sweet. Dpad navigation works, so maybe a possibility that it could work, just have to try it. They also have the oems available for using in roms. Maybe nrg can cook it into his rom.
Has anyone here tried this yet? Its working almost perfect on the shadows, so the only reason you might have problems is the landscape compared to portrait layout. But that could be worked out, the main thing is that it will work on wm standard if anyone's interested in it.

It's only for htc phones right now, so I can't try it on my blackjack before it sells to let you know any more than that. I can tell you on the tilt, that this is a great interface plugin.
showaco-where is download link and instructions ?
I have htc s620 and i have to try.

thats just a matter of changing the settings xml for the image layout and changing size of background images, wouldn't be to hard, just takes a little time on spacing adjustment. The zip with all needed cabs is in the first link. shadowmike may have changed some of the files to use on smartphone, i'm not sure. He's supposed to have his done this weekend and should be available on allshadow.
NRG should get this for excaliber/dash if he's serious about making a rom.
Nice, how about that HTC Viva, I think its using the same processor as the Dash, but with native TouchFlo, can't wait.
Re: TouchFlo
If someone could put the XML code up then we could all do our little bit here, all we would have to do is highlight change and the original post could be corrected
Then all we need a test bed shore Reeg would be into this?
Just trying to make us all involved
I know this would be simps for showaco
i sugest-give us all needed files in one zip archiva with instructions for instalation.
thanks

Sorry i'm having a funny wobbly moment, gixxum wouldn't understand that

Manilla Touchflo2d is now working on htc smarthphones for anyone interested. The layout is for portrait, but is has a xml file that you can adjust all the tabs, icons, text etc , so that it will view correctly on the dash/excalibur. Here's a link to all the files needed and a good thread on setting it up for smarthphones.

The files and links are about half way down the page along with install directions and lots of screenshots.
Anyone would care sharing their xml for the dash? I'm not too good with those sort of things...
Cheers

If I install this do you know if I could still use sliding panels if I wanted.
Sure, if someone shoes me the way i'd be glad to contribute as much as i can!

Hey y'all
so,
while we're all waiting for our "Dreams" to show up on the 22nd, this would be a lot of fun to play with. If anyone figures it out, and could even just write down how they did it, I'd REALLY REALLY appreciate it, as I'm sure everyone else would as well. Thanks!
I've bn working on it for about 4 days now but I don't have alot of time. I know that show has been doing some work on landscape as well.
I offer myself as a test dummy for it. Just tell me what to do. It seems to be quite impressive. I hope showaco will come out with some good stuff

hey gorap, have you already installed it on your dash? You have to move the tabs first so you can see them. I've got some of the landscape values for home and weather. The programs page auto adjusts to fit I believe. The wallpaper background has to be widened as well(hh_fw_background.png).

Iphone Theme

I just checked out this website...
http://www.iphonethemeforppc.com/theme.php
This theme looks pretty good to replicate the iphone.
Has anyone had any experience using this, also can anyone recommend anything better?

You can get from here
http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/ifonz.shtml
try Mallman's stuff at www.swampthing.net
I have used it and works pretty well.
it also runs on WAD2
Excellent thanks for the links guys, very helpful.
Whats the big difference in the ifonz and swampthings software?
I mean there is one sitting there for free, or there is one where I would have to spend $15 on the WAD, then $2.50 on the program?

Thanks or the advertising lol. As for the freeware ifonz theme, you can certainly use this but you will need to mod it just a little. There are qvga and vga versions, not Wvga. If youa re looking for the most inexpensive way to get an iphone theme this is the way to go.... you will just have to resize the icons and such. Should work fine though.
Not sure what engine this uses because all of mine use WAD2. Looks interesting though. I would say try ifonz first and if it meets yoru needs you haven't spent a dime I am going to try it as well and see what i can do with it
ok i have downloaded the vga version and installed it. See screenshot. The only real complaint I have is that it runs pretty bad. Not unusable but the motions are not fluid. I think I see the files that make it work and it seems you could probably modify these files yourself to get better quality icons. The real benefit to using this is you save the $15 on WAD2. Of course anyone who uses WAD2 would probably admit it is the best thing since sliced bread if you want to customize your interface.
However, this is free and it pretty neat. I say give it a try before you do anything else. If it completely suites your needs then you are all set guys. For the record, i think it has a lot of potential. I will be toying with it a little in the future.
As the author of WAD2, i wouldn't recommend the theme above. There is a reallly good, high-quality iPhone theme for WAD2 by a user called "Torx" in our forums. It's not VGA (at least, not the last time I checked), but it is free and a better quality than the one linked to at the top of this thread.

agreed for the quality reasoning. I would recommend buying WAD2 for tha treason. I was only suggesting the above for the free factor. But, you get what you pay for.
Not greatly impressed with ifonz, so when i get some cash, will be buying WAD2 and the swampthing theme.
purchased!
Im very very impressed, good theme.
Just wondering how to link my own applications to each of the iphones on screen buttons?
For instance calculator, weather etc...?
does it run better with TF3d disabled?

yes it runs free and clear of TF3d, it is a total replacement for TF3D. You can change any of the links the buttons link too by tap/hold any spot on the screen that is empty. Select author mode. Now tap/hold the button you want to change and select properties. Select script. Edit the script. Enjoy You can also find this detail in the swampthing FAQ at:

[Q]New Media Panel Background

Hello,
Does anyone know how to change the media experience panel background (add new styles beside the squares, icons and reeds), is there a cab or something for this? i think it would be nice to have other animations...
I don't think there's anything out there.
Sadly, panels seem to be falling by the wayside. Poor execution on SE's part.
i haven't found any way to do this and honestly I don't even think it's possible. If you look into \progra files\panels\MediaExperiencePanel you'll only find an .exe and a .dll . My guess is everything is locked up inside the .exe , making it in some sort of a "black box".
Damn... i really wanted other animations, eh...squares animation better than no animation though
I think there's hope
Dont get your hopes up too high, but i have seen the customized MediaExperiance. It had a radio thing along the others, a nice one actually. it also had the time in the lower corner. So i think that if someone was able to add new features, then it can also have the color/background changed, and other animation added.

I beleive this version you're referring to is an actual official new release from SE. I have it running on my phone and it's posted on the Panels thread by grab: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=498934
As different backgrounds were possible on the UIQ3 version of the media player it should be possible to tweek the backgrounds of the WM version.
However I have no idea how they hacked the UIQ version, so can't offer any solutions.

Azgrad Defence in WVGA

Hey guys.
I just bought Azgard Defence which is an awesome Tower Defense game but unfortunately it's not supporting WVGA resolution. Part of the screen just stays black. Is there a way to solve this issue? It would be really nice, if the whole screen was used.
Thanks,
zenabi
Nothing at all that I can do about this? Doesn't this bother anyone else using this game?
greetz
zenabi
if there isn't a WVGA version of the game, then not much you can do. At best, you can dig into the settings files and see if you can locate the resolution parameters and change them to 480x800 though that will only stretch the screen.
Okay, I thought someone maybe had a fix for that. I think just stretching the screen wouldn't make the game look any better Thanks anyways.
You could try WVGAfix3. Not sure whether it works on WM6.5, it did on WM6.1.
I've found another thread with a direct link to the file for download.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=506634
Let me know if it works. Azguard defence is way too cool on PC, would be great if it works on ppc too.
wvgafix (i believe the new version now supports wm6.5) wouldnt solve the OPs problem as he/she wants to get rid of the black portion.

Making an attractive User Interface

Hi all,
I was just wondering how you would go about making an attractive interface. I am using C# to write an application I hope to share with the people on this forum (as ive taken alot and think maybe i should give something back now ) but I cant figure how ot make an interface look good. For example transparent forms with graphical buttons etc. Are these just images or is there some 2d DX Programming involved? Because the UI I have in mind i could acheive it by playing GIFS but that just doesnt seem right to me. Also Im still learning C# so for my own ability id rather do it with the correct method from the beginning.
Can someone help me out? DX? Simple Graphics? Gifs? Whats the way to make a nice UI thats not just a windows form in different colours ( ).
Oh and btw im also looking to make the UI finger friendly.
EDIT:
Another question, how do you suppose the volume control (the finger friendly one you spin with your thumb) is made ? its very responsive and i dont think its just images also the way the white ball swivels around and changes the colour of the number its behind. This would also be interesting to learn. I just want to get an idea of the kind of programming involved in making a UI like that. Thanks again.
Thanks in advance for tips.
