Question Flash SM-S901U1 firmware on SM-S901N? - Samsung Galaxy S22

I have an SM-S901N, unlocked snapdragon from South Korea, bought it last summer and rooted successfully using the method here. I've been running rooted, updating periodically with odin, everything works just fine. Except...
I'm in the US and use Verizon Wireless. The two features I miss: wifi calling and visual voicemail. These are both only available with the VZW firmware.
The U1 is also an unlocked snapdragon. Can I flash the U1 VZW firmware on my N and get these two Verizon features? Even better, can I use the HOME_CSC from VZW and change the CSC without a wipe? I've seen mixed info on whether you can successfully change CSC using odin without wiping, and have it stick. I assume the Verizon-specific features will require the CSC to be set to VZW in addition to everything else.

How To Get Updates - Unlocked With XAC but No Updates (and other questions)

Hi All:
I followed the "Canadian W XAC Firmware" thread and have been very pleased - except that I have not gotten any updates since the April 1, 2017 Security Patch and the original XAC firmware available (QDE). A screenshot is attached and can be seen below.
This was originally a locked AT&T device that my company bought for me, right now the phone is showing XAA/XAA/ATT. I'm not really concerned about that - it's working fine as a device on TMB. I just want to make sure I'm getting the updates!
I guess this puts a couple questions into play:
Is there a difference between SM-955U and SM-955U1 hardware and/or firmware? Mine is currently on 955U, but it seems like they're fully interchangable - and the unlocked XAA is only under 955U1, as far as I can find.
Since I'm not concerned with TMB's features (which I've actually been able to activate in part anyway through the "IMS Settings" function), is there any danger in flashing the XAA (955U1) firmware?
If this is possible, can I flash the 955U1 firmware over the current firmware without a factory data reset? I'd rather not have to set up everything again.
Thank you!!!
Same issue here. Bought VZW s8+ originally, then flashed 955U1, then flashed TMB CSC. Now the string reads TMB/TMB/VZW. Not getting any update.

You'll never change the last one to TMB. The last code is hardwired into your device in the EFS folder and cannot be changed without root. It only shows what variant you originally received and should have no effect on updates, as far as I know.

No, there's no danger in flashing the XAA U1 firmware. There's several threads that show you how to do it, but it will wipe your device. Use Smart Switch to back everything up to your SD card. Between that, Samsung Cloud, and Google backup, you won't have to set much up again.
Once you've flashed the XAA firmware, you put your T-Mo SIM card in, and it will give a message stating it's switching carriers or something and reboot. You will still be on the unlocked, bloatfree firmware, but it will change your CSC string to TMB/TMB/ATT (the last code can't be changed), and you will have all the T-Mo carrier features except for video calling and RCS texting. If those are important to you, then you can always flash the T-Mo carrier software, but you'll get the bloat with it. (not much bloat on the T-Mo software).
As far as updates, everything I've read said you will receive updates OTA, but I didn't stay on T-Mo firmware long enough to find out. I just switched back to the original XAA firmware, and we haven't received a July update yet.
Something's not right here. Your model name should show as "SM-G955U1". Yours does not - yours shows SM-G955U still. If you want to be on the unlocked firmware, just search here on XDA for the princecomsy odin and download the latest firmware for the unlocked model and flash it. July security patch still isn't released, but having come from the unlocked S7e I can't say I'm surprised.
I don't know why you would need to follow any XAC thread to flash the unlocked firmware - all I did was use the modified odin and flash the unlocked firmware on my TMO S8+. Got the 1st OTA (unlocked U1 OTA) 1 week after flashing to U1.
There's a bunch of misinformation on how to change software versions. There's no reason to change anything with the carrier/region info (XAA/TMO/XAC, etc). As long as you are using a snapdragon S8 you can flash any (snapdragon) carrier firmware using the modified odin.

Confused on all the threads for unlocked verse carrier variants - what can you flash?

Here's the situation:
I'd like to take advantage of the Samsung trade-in deal but want to buy the correct phone to give me the most options and i'm finding conflicting things on reddit and even here, can someone answer a few quick questions for me:
1) Can i START with an unlocked S8+ from Samsung and flash the TMO firmware if i want? Or any carrier firmware for that matter (selling purposes)?
2) If the answer is no, you can't start with an unlocked S8+, does that mean i have to get a TMO version of the S8+ to be able to flash the unlocked firmware and/or flash back to the TMO firmware?
3) Lastly; if i get a TMO S8+ and flash the unlocked firmware can i still flash the TMO CP to get 256 and MIMO? I did that with my S7 Edge however i started with a verizon version which was already unlocked - flashed unlocked firmware but TMO modem.
3b) I also saw someone on reddit who said they bought the verizon version, flashed the unlocked, then flashed the tmo.
I appreciate the clarification, there are just so many threads and a lot of different answers it's hard to sort through them.
Thanks in advance.
I have the same question. I ordered my wife a T-Mo S8+, because she doesn't care about unlocked/bloatware, etc.
I ordered myself a US Unlocked version, but now I'm.wondering if I should've ordered a T-Mo version.
Couple reasons:
#1 T-Mo version has RCS and video calling. Not a big deal, but cool nonetheless. Apparently GearVR doesn't work on the unlocked version?
#2 The unlocked version only comes in black. I have a couple options with the T-Mo version and could always flash the unlocked software.
#3 Some people have had issues flashing BACK from the unlocked firmware to T-Mo, so if I want T-Mo firmware on my unlocked version, will I have issues flashing it?
I don't really care about colors. Black is fine. And if I can freely and easily switch back and forth between T-Mo and unlocked firmware on either version of the phone, then it doesn't really matter which one I get. Until I know which firmware works best for me on T-Mo, I'm not sure which version I really want to use.
They fixed the GearVR on the unlocked versions; of the 1000+ posts i read i did see that.
Also, i did find this thread but haven't had time to go through it all:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/how-to/switch-to-carrier-firmware-100-t3609487
Based on the title, i would ASSume you could do whatever you'd like. I don't care about RCS or video calling so that's not a big deal to me. I decided to take advantage and nabbed the unlocked version, it was the cheapest and since i can probably find a way to flash whatever i want on it i took the risk. I have a couple old phones that getting $200 in on trade is worth it, i went with the S8+ and will probably do it again using my wife for the S8 trade in. Decide which device i like the best and sell the other.
The trade-in was the main incentive for me too. Coming from Nexus and Pixel I'm used to unlocked devices as well.
And I've been pouring over threads today, but some threads are 100+ pages long, and just too long to read or even search through.
Usually the community finds a way with flashing firmware so i'm confident. I'll come back and update this thread when I get it, the only thing I would like to do is flash the T-mobile CP modem for 256 QAM and 4x4 mimo. Other than that, Unlocked firmware all the way

All you need is the firmware files (BL, AP, CP, and CSC_OYM for new carrier flash, CSC_HOME for manually updating same carrier firmware) for the version you want to move to and the modified odin (prince comsy). A quick search will turn up all you need here on xda. Just like the snapdragon S7 and edge, changing which carrier/unlocked software you have is just a 5-10 minute odin away. All versions are compatible regardless of which carrier/unlocked software you start with. Ignore all of the "how to change to XAA" etc. Just find the modified odin and firmware you want to use and flash.
EDIT: To clairify, all snapdragon software versions are compatible with any snapdragon S8 or S8+.

There's no longer a need to flash the TMO cp. I have flashed the unlocked software on my TMO S8+ and unlike the S7e using the unlocked firmware, CA, 256QAM and 4x4 all work fine. The phone enables these things based on the sim inserted. I did a test with my wife's S7e (unlocked using TMO modem file) and my S8+ side by side and speeds were identical, and my S8+ reports CA using bands 2, 4 and 12. The S7e on the unlocked cp (modem) would not have CA and have slower download speeds.
The only thing you lose is the video calling within the phone app (same as the unlocked S7 and edge) when flashing the U firmware to the S8. But unlike with the S7, since you no longer need to flash the TMO CP file to get 4x4, CA, etc, you can now take OTA's for the unlocked version and do not have to manually flash the newest firmware in odin.

Infinite Thanks! So based on your post, i'm not going to do anything. I hope your message gets out there because there is a lot of confusion on various sites including Reddit about the CP modem with the S8/S8+.
That's great news.

Thanks. So finally i flashed tmobile firware on my unocked version s8+. Now i have video calling enabled and also tmobile logo while boot up. As u said i have my end results showing TMB/TMB/XAA NOT TMB/TMB/TMB. But i guess from your post i dont have to worry about it. And also they got rid of enable VoLte toggle but it can be enabled with nova launcher not a big deal.

Are you saying that you can't accept OTA updates if you flash a carrier CP with unlocked firmware? Or are you saying that accepting an OTA on unlocked firmware will overwrite the carrier CP?

Can all USA Galaxy S9 models be flashed to each other's firmware?

I've read that the Galaxy S9 hardware is identical for all carriers in the USA.
If I bought a factory unlocked Galaxy S9 can I flash it to the carrier I am using (Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, AT&T) to enable carrier specific software and features? Can I flash it back to the unlocked firmware?
I already see a thread about flashing the unlocked firmware to carrier models so I am assuming there are no issues there.
Can one carrier model be flashed to another carrier model?
No, bootloaders are different, with the S7 there was an unbranded U firmware that was compatible with most of them, unlocked firmware will be that one for the S9, but no you cannot just flash different device firmwares to the wrong model
I was able to flash the ATT rom onto my Verizon S9. I got a VZ s9 from work but I'm on ATT. For the most part it's worked great, I had done the same thing previously with a Galaxy S7. I say for the most part b/c I am on here tonight to post a question myself about the fact that I'm getting a delay with MMS messages. I imagine it has something to do with the APNs I have setup, but I can't seem to figure it out.

Did you have to flash to the U1 software first?
I do think that is what I ended up doing... tried to go directly first and it kept failing. Got fed up and decided to just try and put the bone stock rom on it, and that went on really easily.... so after using it like that a few days I tried to drop the ATT rom on it and it worked without issue.

Yes, but you need to go to the u1 firmware 1st then to the other carrier firmware. Also make sure you avoid the newer firmwares with the new bootloader, as the unlocked model and certain carrier models don't have the new bootloader.

That'll be why I still thought that then, coming straight from the S7 > S9
Had many members flashing the wrong firmwares thinking they could do that and bricking their S7s / wondering why ODIN failed

I tried downloading vzw firmware G960USQS3ARI6 to my unlocked sprint s9 and still not vzw flashed. want to do this so can have voice over LTE. Any other steps im missing? flash went through but still sprint
As soon as Firmware ver. 3 came out for the G960U1, I was able to flash it to my Sprint G960U and finally have VoLTE, WiFi calling and stable LTE for MetroPCS. Used samkey to unlock it from Sprint. My phone is actually performing much faster without all of Sprint's bloatware hogging my RAM and storage space. I can confirm that OTA updates still work the same...I received September's security patch (current) with no problems. Device is still official status and Knox hasn't been tripped.
A lot of people think you can just flash the carrier firmware of your choice and boom, it works...I had the same thought process....that's not the case. You have to make sure that there is a matching firmware version for the carrier you want to flash to, as well as make sure the G960U1 firmware version (the unlocked version of the S9's software you have to flash first before even carrier flashing) is the same version of what is installed on your phone now. It's easy ya'll......just READ lol.
I'm in love with my phone again thanks to XDA. ?

Well first off, you have the unlocked phone. I don't. My G960U is originally from Sprint, so I'm not sure about carrier flashing regarding the G960U1. I thought it was supposed to provision itself after you put the sim in, and the associated carrier apps will download since it's the unlocked model...but I may be wrong...

I know so many people have already answered your question from some saying No to others saying Yes but you need to Install U1 first and Bla Bla Bla.
I want to give you one specific answer: With S9 you can any Carriers firmware you wish or even Unlocked phone's firmware. You will never have any issue. And you don't ever need to flash U1 or something else before changing carrier firmware you can Flash from ATT S9 firmware to VZW S9 firmware without any issue. You can also flash from U to U1 which is from Carrier specific to Unbranded/Unlocked but only hiccup is original Odin will give you SHA-256 error, which is normal because you are flashing U1 firm to U device or vice versa. This error can easily be resolved by used Patched odin that disabled SHA-256 check. And trust me you will never have any issue.
You will never want to do this but I have gone as far as mix-matching U and U1 firmware together as well. Like flashing AP, BL and CP of U device but flashing CSC of U1 device. and it still works.
hey there, a little late to the party, having trouble with going from a Verizon to a Sprint, even by way of U1. I can't get any of them to work. And I've been told I have to go from VZW to U1 before I went to Sprint. Is that not the case? I'm having a hell of a time getting anything to flash, everything fails.

well, I tried to load the Sprint image from the VZW, no dice. It said it passed, but upon reboot loaded up the old Big Red (even with the Sprint SIM in it).

Flashing Verizon firmware to unlocked T-Mobile Note 10+ SM-n975u

Has anyone had success with installing carrier firmware on an unlocked phone from a different carrier? I am able to flash XAA (unlocked) software to the phone but haven't had success with verizon software. After installing the unlocked software, I lose the original T-mobile screen when powering on along with all the bloatware. However, if I try to flash verizon firmware onto it, it reverts back to T-mobile screen, bloatware etc.
I've tried the following:
TMB-->VZW (fail, stays TMB)
TMB-->XAA (success, even changes phone info to SM-n975u1)
TMB-->XAA-->VZW (fail, reverts to TMB)
VZW software used was for SM-n975u as that was what people had success with when I looked through forums.
I'm going to leave it with unlocked firmware for now but would appreciate any tips with flashing verizon firmware. I'd like to get all the verizon features if possible.
Are you trying to use you T-Mobile SIM card with it as Verizon? If so, newer firmwares will prohibit that due to the SIM detect function.
Thanks for the response. No, I'm using my Verizon sim card. The call, text, web actually work fine. I was just hoping to get functions like Verizon Voicemail, call filter etc.
Did you boot your phone with the VZW SIM after flashing XAA? You have to do this before flashing the VZW firmware. That's worked for me when I went from ATT --> XAA + boot with VZW SIM --> VZW

No I havent tried that yet! Will attempt it when I get home from work and update the post. Thanks guys!
I flashed xaa and put in my vzw sim, restarted the phone and then tried to flash vzw. Unfortunately that did not work. Still comes up Tmobile.
I'm trying to get my unlocked att Note10+ to Verizon. I hope flashing will get this to work
As of now, I think just using the unlocked xaa firmware is your best option. Download the xaa firmware using samfirm or sammobile and flash it with Odin. It seems to be working fine for me currently. I cant get all Verizon functions like Verizon Voicemail but I haven't noticed many other issues.

Are you flashing the Verizon Userdata as well in Odin?
do anyone have stock firmware for SM-N975U trying to remove the frp on it it a verizon version dont care about erasing the data on it
Out of curiousity why did you want to got to verizon? I have found a software issue with the n976V firmware that locks out verizon MVNO sims. Seems to bypass the sim data per my carrier.
Was looking to go the other way.

Sm-g975u need help switching att to tmobile

sm-g975u unlocked att phone wanting to change to tmobile. I have a tmobile sim and had originally plugged this in. The phone works fine but I recently noticed it has no Ota updates occurring. I would like to load tmobile firmware on it to enable some of the tmobile features as well but primary concern is ota updates.
the service provider sw ver.

When I try says fully updated when I put it on samsung switch it says fully updated
Can this be done?
What firmware do you suggest?
Csc *#272imei#(may have that wrong) but is recognized and does work not sure when and what to use here, many options.
Also, not sure of the answer here, but if I run an update or csc change (the phone is unlocked) would it require me to unlock it again for any reason?
I am trying to get the phone close to a tmobile if that is possible
Thank you in advance if i need to give more info please let me know.
Download the firmware of your current network and flash you will begin to receive updates. However you can also flash the unbranded one which is G975U1 and you will still receive updates too
Can you give directions on how to get the firmware for the current network and how to flash the phone? I have an SM-G975U that is on SPR that I need to get to ATT so it will get updates from cricket. I have found a lot of materials on the internet and not a single one shows all of the steps clear enough for me to risk blowing up my phone. I have found the SPR files and TMK, and USA, and TMB, but no ATT.
