Question Cannot decrypt Data - Xiaomi Poco F3 / Xiaomi Mi 11X / Redmi K40

I'm using CRDroid 8 and the latest twrp-3.7.0_12-0-alioth.img from the official TWRP website. But when I go into the recovery it doesn't prompt me to put in my password/pattern and therefore i can't decrypt/mount the DATA partition.
Is there any way to fix this without formating data/deleting all of my files? Maybe another version of TWRP?
I'm trying to use adb pull to get all my files from my phone because I can't boot into system.

Try orangefox recovery

you can use 'unofficial twrp 3.7.0_12 skkk' if youre used to twrp and dont want to switcg but orangefox is better

Have a look here.

Hi, I think you should try to format data. Probabby via fastboot, then install TWRP.
Not sure which are the correct commands for the full format, so have a look around or someone else will help.
Otherwise there is the unbrick guide here in the forums to try.
I'm having a similar issue. So any advice would be great. Just updated to most recent unofficial TWRP (having been on a previous version). Now when entering my pin to decrypt it is not accepted. Would prefer not to have to format data.

I believe the decrypt is a known issue with TWRP and OB8/OB9 with F2FS /data partition. I don't think there's a work around at this time without formatting /data and rooting to prevent encryption.

Hopefully there will be, but it doesn't look promising right now. @eng.stk is the one that was modding the TWRP, but has since stopped doing TWRP dev.

Do you guy know where to get the stock recovery for openbeta 9? I downloaded somewhere a file recovery_OBT8N.img, but it still shows dm-verity issue.

Fastboot Format system and data
Then fastboot flash stockrecovery
Then boot to system
Sideload rom
Then fastboot boot twrp28
Then wipe data and install superuser in one go

you mean: fastboot erase userdata?
Btw, I just ignore the dm-verity message to enter stock recovery, and do adb sideload openbeta9.zip and when it boots up again, the dm-verity message is no longer there.
I would try to format (erase userdata) data and flash the modded twrp.

Yeah fastboot Format userdata
But since you don't have the dm-verity you can skip the fastboot Format. Boot into the modd twrp and when it asks for password, hit cancel and then format data (you will have to type 'yes').
Then flash SuperSU or superuser in the same session without booting. This will ensure dm-verity doesn't come up again as it will start in enforcing mode, thanks to SuperSU/superuser.
You may be able to flash twrp afterwards but I haven't tried it.

Encryption issues on Nougat firmware

Hi guys,
just nowadays I installed OxygenOS Open Beta 10.
I was upgrading from Open Beta 7, but since I unlocked bootloader after doing that, we can say that I did a clean install (everyone should know that fastboot oem unlock erase all data).
However, I'm having troubles both with stock recovery and TWRP v3.0.2-1.28: pattern won't to be recognized.
If I disable pattern requiring at bootup, in recovery I need to type "a password" (that obviously is wrong in any case).
I tried to reinstall more times the firmware, also did factory reset both via stock/TWRP recovery and fastboot commands.
But nothing has changed.
System is working, but I can't access to recovery anyway.
You could try with other TWRP versions? Say 3.0.2-22
It's a known issue
Use twrp v3.0.2-1.19
Works with no issues, except a mouse pointer in the middle of the twrp. It does not interfere with anything, it is just there (a bug).

If you are on f2fs and encrypted, the blu spark kernel dev released a new recovery that supports f2fs decryption in TWRP. It may save you all the hassle. All you need to do is flash that updated recovery from fastboot and then try to decrypt. It should work fine.
All you have to do is wipe data partition. Reformat it as f2fs, all in TWRP and then reboot system and proceed with setup. Done!

Yeah, I would be in love both with you and the developer, if it works properly
Tomorrow I should try, I'll keep you updated :good:
UPDATE: I've always loved Magisk, since v7 (when I've started using it).
Magisk is the workaround for encryption: just today I've flashed it together with Open Beta 10.
Now encryption is disabled, so goodbye to recovery troubles.
However the issue can't be considered solved because of a stupid workaround, this is not the right approach: I will try @abhibnl solution (re-enable encryption, then install latest blu_spark recovery).
Thanks all for answering.

Yes i was referring to that recovery. 1 user has responded that it worked fine on his f2fs encrypted storage, so i believe it's worth trying. I am not on f2fs so i personally can't test it for you. But i would advise you to atleast give it a try. You never know when you by mistake boot right after a fresh stock rom install with stock kernel, and it will immediately encrypt your storage. So, you can't always just keep formatting internal memory. A proper TWRP recovery is indeed required for both ext4 and f2fs. All i am waiting for is updated kernel sources for recovery devs to work on.
For the many having issues, here's a step by step:
step by step install for OOS 4.0 and twrp-3.0.2-1.28-op3.img
Have OOS stock recovery installed on your phone. You must also have adb installed on your computer.
connect your phone to your computer via usb and open a dos command session on your computer.
On your phone, reboot into fastboot (bootloader).
From adb command on computer, type fastboot boot twrp-3.0.2-1.28-op3.img.
First make a backup and copy it to a safe location.
Now wipe everything - Internal, system, data, cache.
Reboot to Recovery. This is the stock OOS recovery!
Go to install from USB and then enter sideload mode.
On your computer dos prompt, type adb sideload (path)OnePlus3Oxygen_16_OTA_035_all_1612310359_e10cadfb2af7.zip
Allow the long and slow process to complete and reboot.
Upon reboot, it is encrypting the data partition as EMMC.
Upon bootup, enter setup and go through it quickly as you will have to enter it again so do not waste time configuring it.
Once setup is complete, reboot into fastboot.
From DOS command, enter adb and type command fastboot boot twrp-3.0.2-1.28-op3.img.
TWRP will boot up asking for encryption password. Hit cancel and then swipe to allow modifications.
Go into mount. Only the system and cache will appear. Back out and select WIPE.
select ADVANCED WIPE and data partition only.
Modify the data parition by selecting Repair or Change file system.
It will list the current mount point as emmc. Select Change File System.
Select F2FS and swipe.
This will wipe current data partition and reformat it.
Once you have done this, while in TWRP, select the ADVANCED button on the main menu.
Now select ADB SIDELOAD and swip to start sideload.
On your computer in ADB, type command adb sideload SR1-SuperSU-v2.79-SR1-20161221223537.zip.
Now reboot system and go through the usual setup and your done.

root problem after update to beta 19

hi,
my oneplus 3 has been rote since i got it (i bought it on launch day) but since i updated it to the beta 19, my phone is no longer rooted : when i put the phone in fastboot it says that my bootloader it unlocked but all the apps who requier root are saying that the phne is not rooted and i cant get twrp to work. i tryied with the official app on my phone and with a program called "tool all in one" (https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...ol-tool-one-driversunlocktwrpfactory-t3398993) and when i flash twrp from the program, i can boot into twrp but then i can't access my files and after i boot the phone, i can no longer boot to twrp
does anyone have a solution that doesn't involve me wiping the phone?
You loose root after updating. Try installing twrp again and then rooting it. Use the toolkit for oneplus 3. Simplifies the process
what do you mean by "then rooting it" ?
the program i use does the same thing as the toolkit and when i install twrp, as i said, it can boot on twrp one time and in twrp i can't access my files and after i boot the phone i can't get back to twrp ,i get the stock recovery
Unless your ROM has built-in root, after flashing TWRP, you have to flash SuperSU or Magisk to obtain root. Mere flashing of TWRP will not give you root.
I know but i can't get to the folder when the magisk file is : when in boot into twrp i cant see my files
Few details... it's quite difficult to help you.
What's the root method? Magisk, SuperSU or Kingroot? Which version?
Ps TWRP recovery is not depending by root, you just need to unlock bootloader (surely it's already unlocked) and flash the same recovery, from PC, via the command "fastboot flash recovery filename.img".
Now enter in TWRP:
1) Wipe /system and /cache;
2) Flash another time Open Beta 19;
3) Flash Magisk or SuperSU (be sure to have latest release);
4) Move TWRP img file from computer to device, then flash it another time (because firmware provides the OOS stock recovery);
5) Reboot and wait 5-10 minutes, because of cache rebuilding.
Tell me if you solve
I am using magisk
Yes my bootloader is unlocked
My problem is that when i flash twrp i cant access my files so i don't want to wipe system if i cant reflash something after
I think that I'll wait for the next update, maybe then it will work
But thank you for your help
Which version of TWRP do you have? Try eng.stk's latest version.
I tryied 3.1.1-2
The eng.stk is not available anymore
Your phone is encrypted, so you have to format data ( but your internal storage wiped by formating data, so back it up ,then only twrp read files in your storage)and flash custom kernel then boot restore backup .
how do you know that my phone is encrypted? i never encrypted it
i use titanium backup so i can't back my phone up until i get rot back
Whenever you flash stock ROM it encrypt if you boot into system directly . So twrp could not read internal storage. Whenever you flash stock ROM you must flash custom kernel or any other method to avoid encryption. This is happened to me and what I'd done is flash custom kernel before boot into rom
To save your data try this
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/how-to/unencrypt-oxygenos-loosing-data-t3412228
Who said that? Check this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/?id=15934#downloads
Edit: If you want to save items in internal storage, you can use ADB commands instead of TWRP. You can also simply copy and paste if your PC recognises the internal storage of your phone.
I succeeded but i had to clean everything and use the last backup i made a week ago
Thank you all for your help

How to factory reset OP 3 with PC?

Hello,
it seems to be that sth went wrong today. I wanted to factory reset my OP3 but right now nothing is working.
The initial set up was the following:
Unlocked bootloader with TWRP installed. Oxygen OS + several custom ROMs installed
What I did:
I deleted the data from system partition since I thought that they Oxygen OS system data will be deleted.
Problem:
Right now I get a encryption hint without the possibiity to factory reset my OP3 since I don´t get access to the data partition in order to upload a Oxygen OS .zip on my OP 3 from my PC.
What can I do in oder to factory reset my OP3 with the help of my PC? I want to install the OnePlus 3 OxygenOS Open Beta 28.
Search mega unbrick guide method 2 and then flash the last OnePlus recovery and then flash OB28
I managed to flash the most current Oxygen OS on my OP3 by doing a factory reset within TWRP and flashing the Oxygen OS .zip and Magisk 4.5.
BUT after rebooting, the file system seems to be encrypted again in TWRP (even allowing explicitly file modifications!). This means that I am not able to flash another .zip.
How can I manage that the file system remains decrypted also in TWRP?
I don't have access in TWRP to my files in oder to flash an OS Update and so on. It seems to be encrypted in TWRP. How can I manage to have access to all my files located in the internal flash?

If you boot OOS without any force encryption disabling mod them it will encrypt. It's not a problem at all if you use the right TWRP. Pick the TWRP from the Bluspark thread and you should be fine.

If you pay attention, it also explains how searching in the internet works. It's littery the first result if you google "Oneplus 3 Bluspark".
I was already using
twrp-3.2.1-x_blu_spark_v8.61-op3_op3t.img !!!
BUT nevertheless I don't have access to any file (e.g. .zip) even using the newest version of the Bluspark TWRP. Every directory is listed with 0 Bytes.
When accessing TWRP an Error message comes up but I can allow file modifications. But this doesn't help to get access to any file.

[SOLVED] TWRP doesn’t let browse /sdcard files

I am having a problem it happened after I finally got to flash latest CosmicOS and set up a new password on my OP3. So, here’s what basically happened;
Once I got it up and running I noticed that home button and fingerprint sensor was completely disabled, then I tried to set up a new password (completely same password I used to decrypt my storage in TWRP 3.0.2-0) and fingerprint just in case but it didn’t react to me calibrating the fingerprint so I was like, ”alright, gladly I got a backup in TWRP”.
Once I rebooted to recovery it asked for a password as usually, once I typed that exact same password as before it just said wrong password, I tried it twice in case if I made a typo but still invalid password. And then I was panicing and pressed cancel and just rebooted back to OS.
I then removed all passwords there and booted back to recovery again, TWRP doesn’t ask for a password anymore but there’s a slider which says allow modifications or something similar and also there’s read only mode. When I slided the modification thing it just doesn’t show any of my files in sdcard folder when I go to ’Install’ tab but (0mb) instead. I even was able to browse and add files from my pc while phone was plugged in and in recovery mode, not anymore though.
Can anyone give me advice or help to get my oneplus 3 back in use? I have all the important files moved to my pc so I don’t mind losing files I have left in internal storage that much. Not if it’s necessary or easier workaround. thanks for reading this long-ass text :fingers-crossed:
EDIT: Issue SOLVED thanks to @AkR2014. I switched data partition from EXT4 to F2FS and then one more time back to EXT4 in TWRP's Wipe tab. (I was using latest blue_spark's TWRP-3.2.1-x version) and I was able to wipe data, system and both caches afterwards. After that I managed to flash new rom via USB-C to A with mounted USB flash drive on the other end and you know rest of the story. Do note that it WILL clear your internal storage so back up all the necessary files you need. And if you want to stay on F2FS data partition be sure to flash a ROM which supports it
EDIT2: There might be another way to mount your storage in TWRP but this is probably fail-proof method and worked for me

Wait, I think I found it. But the question is can and do I need to update the latest eng.stk’s TWRP through fastboot? And if so, is there instructions topic somewhere?
So here's the latest update: I flashed twrp-3.1.1-2 via fastboot but once I go to recovery it still doesn't let me browse files in /sdcard and if I put new password in OS it doesn't match in TWRP. I have a OS where I can boot to but no Gapps installed.
People say formatting data in TWRP would work, I'm just scared if that doesn't work and won't let me boot to OS anymore (even though I have a TWRP back up which I made before wiping my OxygenOS system data and caches in my pc as well in my phone's storage atm) and I can't flash anything in recovery mode, is there anything I could do? I'm in desperate need of help right now.
In this CosmicOS i am using Android 8.1.0 and I'm afraid something isn't supporting it or so.

Thanks for the reply and link. I understood most of the parts except flashing the image to Recovery partition. Am I supposed to find the eng.stk’s TWRP from my Install tab in my current TWRP? Because it doesn’t show any files there. Also do I download the latest 3.2.1-x TWRP from the link you provided?

You will find TWRP 3.2.1-x v8.61 in the link I provided. Download that to your phone and save it. Restart your phone in recovery mode and in the current TWRP that you have, click the 'Install' button. By default, you will be shown zip files,if any. TWRP comes as an img file. So click the 'show img files' button at bottom right in TWRP and navigate to where you saved it and select it. Slide the bottom bar to install, you will be asked where to install it to. Select 'Recovery' and again slide the bar. It will be installed. To confirm, restart in recovery mode and check the version number of TWRP.
eng.stk's TWRP is compatible with OOS and custom ROMS. The offficial one doesn't work with some custom ROMs.

he is unable to mount storage via twrp , i have the sol but it will format your whole data / internal storage if your wiling to .
1 ) Go to twrp
2 ) wipe - > Advance wipe > change system file partation
3) if your on F2FS change to ext 4 or vice versa .
4 ) you will be able to mount sdcard
and dont flash this rom again , faceed same issue while flashing some oreo rom .
P.S : do it at your own risk .

Thanks man :highfive: I have really nothing to lose anyways so I gotta try that lol. How can I know whether I am on F2FS or EXT 4 though? And once it’s done can I access to my phone storage while it’s in recovery mode and just paste new rom to internal storage? Or do I need to push the rom via adb while in fastboot mode? Thinking to try out Paranoid rom which is based on Nougat, right?

Thanks for clarification tnsmani, appreciate the time you put into it. But as the person who replied to your text, I cannot mount the storage in TWRP which would prevent me of flashing pretty much anything on phone in TWRP.

If you are able to boot into fastboot mode, you can install TWRP through ADB.
But you can not copy, paste in TWRP.

Great to hear that. Though I don’t have Gapps installed. Accidentally tried to flash the wrong one before the mounting problem occurred and now you know rest of the story
I’ll try to find another way to check it though. Oh and as well as the ROM
