Due to wifi issues at home I have been forced to rely on mobile data a lot more this last week.
I am in an apartment block, and the mobile connection has always been quite average, presumably due to the building's steel framework.
Have any other 20x 5g users on here compared the 5g speeds and connection speed etc. with a 2022 phone? If it differed much? Or if you know of any web resource that have compared connection speeds (not necessarily max rates, just the ability to get online even at low speed quickly) in this way? Thx

I've been doing a lot of speed tests the last few days and I can't seem to download anything faster than 1mbit/sec.
I realize that would be normal for 3g but the thing is I am not getting more than 1mbit with wifi also.
I've tested my 3g connection with both ip dashboard and gprs monitor and get equal results. IP dashboard seems to be the only decent program for checking my wifi speeds and it reports between 1 and 1.2 mbit/sec.
I know the max hsdpa speed is 1.8mbit and given overhead that translates to about 1.3-1.5 in a perfect environment.
Does this cap also affect the wifi max speeds? I would think wifi would still be 11mbit and 54mbit as the respective b and g standards specify.
Kinda sucks if regardless of wifi or wan the speeds can't top 1-1.2mbit.
I believe it is right. I never had much luck downloading faster in wifi either. Maybe try different ROMS and see if they are any faster...

Is it normal for the HTC Wildfire S to have slow data speeds or could it be because of my area? I rarely get speeds much above 2Mbps. The data speed I get on 3 UK is around 1.4Mbps average and the connection keeps dropping. I get almost full signal so that shouldn't be the cause. The speed often goes really slow at peak times. Does anyone else have speeds this slow or are they much faster?
Disabled 2g

What is your connection now? 3G or GPRS,
In options tried to select Inalambric Conections, the mobile data or similar and be sure that "Only use 2G nets" are disabled, if it isn't disabled it can be a solutiion...

I have the Network Mode on WCDMA only. I get slow download speeds most of the time even though it's showing the H symbol and doesn't matter what network I use. Is there a trick for getting faster data speeds by editing the build.prop file or something?
In many areas Three doesn't provide a GSM service, and in others it is out-sourced to Orange's network. Even though you may be connected to their HSDPA (WCDMA) service the speed is entirely dependant on the signal level. The speed is also dependant on the time of day, obviously the network is going to be more congested during peak times.
I usually get a download speed of around 350kB/s (2.8Mbps).
To be honest your speed doesn't sound that bad, and if you want a much faster experience you're going to have to get a phone that supports HSPA+.
The speeds I now get are always absolutely rubbish. I nearly always get below 0.5Mbps on Orange. 3 aren't much better. Below 1Mbps most of the time.
Hello,
Does anyone know the theoretical WiFi speed of the SM-T700 in 2.5G and 5G band? Or can someone share his?
Using OOKLA Speedtast, I'm having approx 8-10Mbps under 5Ghz band with mine (similar perf w/ file transfer from a computer on local computer) but I get 40-50Mbps with other connected devices (eg S7E).
I'm not sure if this is due to device capability or ROM issue, so I'd like to know what is to be expected first.
Thanks for your input.
The 802.11AC, which works in the 5GHz bands, gives roughly 100Mbps per stream for a 20MHz wide channel. The Tab S supports two steams and up to 80MHz wide channels, so in theory with the right access point setup, you have theoretical speed of 800-900Mbps. However, in real life wi-fi wastes at least half of its bandwidth on it's own protocols house keeping. So the Tab S should be able to have 200-400Mbps ish link to the router under the optimal conditions. However, the 5GHz band slows down tremendously with the distance or behind the walls. If you're not getting 50Mbps in the speed test, then you're probably far away from the wireless access point, or there is some kind of interference going on. The 2.4GHz band is slower and usually more congested, but it reaches greater distances.
Thanks for the details @Akopps.
From what I observed, the max download speed on my Tab S is averaging 7MBps whereas using my laptop I get at least 20MBps. Same distance from router, located <4m and 2.5m up without obstructions.
So its seems I'm way below theoretical capable speeds but unsure why.
Before I get this phone, I have a question about 5G. I currently have an A71 that I will be returning (for a variety of reasons) and the 5G implementation is terrible. I'm hoping this isn't an across-the-board issue for 5G phones this year... Here is the problem I see:
What in 5G mode, I will sometimes get a signal and sometimes not. I'll do a Google search and it says "no internet". Then I turn off 5G and change it to LTE/3G/2G and suddenly I'm fine and surfing the net without any issues. I expected a 5G phone to use 4G LTE whenever 5G isn't strong, seamlessly. Not report 'no internet'.
Anyone experience that here with this phone?
Note: My provider is T-Mobile, that I don't suspect that should make a difference in how network switching occurs.
I live in a fringe area where T Mobile 5G rarely pops up. When in the downtown area I get 5G constantly. I don't see any jaw dropping speed difference between 5G and LTE. What I do notice in either mode is data is received in bursts. This is noticable during app updates and speed tests. I never get a "no internet". Switching between 5G and LTE is seamless.
used to have the same issues but there were some system updates that i think fixed them, also my 5g coverage has improved - so i dont have these issues anymore but i think is something that depends a lot on the network rather than the phone
T-Mobile definitely doesn't have the same coverage in my area as Big Red. It's pretty sporadic. There are times that I show a full 5G signal but pages don't load.
I'm hoping the Sprint merger will improve things. Although I don't think T-Mobile's low frequency 5G will deliver the fastest speeds, I'm hoping it will give better penetration in buildings.
Fortunately, I have Comcast/Xfinity for both home and work Internet, so I can use their hotspots.

From a quick call with Tmo tech people, even when the phone shows the 5G icon, do not expect to have any better speeds than LTE. Only if you are on the mmWAVE frequencies you may see higher speeds, and those are not really deployed anywhere than center of few cities. Then be aware those bands can not go through walls.. so most likely you may be in the 600Mhz band (U71) which is 37 to 100 Mbit only, but at least will have better coverage than LTE.
Bottom line- the 5G era is now a toddler learning to walk, not run.. I get most of my high speed over WiFi as before..
Hi folks. I have been using the device for a few months, but have not had great speeds on 5g. In fact, the 5g speed is the same as the 4g speed when I test.
I then took the SIM out and put it in the Poco F3 and 5g speed went from 10 to 130 (down).
Has anyone had similar experience with 5g connection? I am not sure if might be the Poco gets a stronger signal strength, or whether there are other issues. Both devices are compatible (and sold by) my carrier.
5G is very dependent on near direct line of sight to the tower, distant and available bandwidth. 5G may not be fully integrated where you are, but it will probably improve over time.
Many websites limit their bandwidth and they end up being the bottleneck even with 4G.
5G requires more energy so disable it if it gives you no speed benefit and boosts your battery life.
5G works well if you have a good signal and are transfering large amounts of data. Otherwise it's wasteful and not needed.
Yes, but Samsung and F3 tested in same location within 5 minutes of each other. Samsung got 10 down. F3 got 130 down. Same network. Same sim

It's probably the local network...
4G works well for me so I deliberately blew off 5G. Lots of problems with 5G, still.
Plus my unlimited data 4G plan is grandfathered.
