Question Battery faulty? - OnePlus 9 Pro

Hey guys.
Just switched from S21U to this sweet baby and so far I am missing nothing from Samsung. Besides the good battery life.. I got with the galaxy S3 better SOT In idle I loose so much, it's incredible. I thought its A11.. no updated to A12.. no installed A13 Beta 2 and still crap battery life.
I disabled everything that Google or YouTube suggested me already but nothing helps. I restored my backup from the cloud (the switch from Sammy to o+1) can that cause poor battery life?
I am thankful for any help or tips.

Maybe one/some of the radios (wifi/BT/NFC/GPS) are on?
I'd suggest starting with charging the phone to 100%, then putting it in airplane mode for 12 hours (say for the night), then see it: if the battery looses more than a few percent, then there is indeed something wrong with it. If not, then it's just a matter of time that you'll figure what drains the battery.

Dude that is one of the best ideas I've ever read when it comes to checking out a battery thank you for this...
I'm having issues with my 9 pro draining again myself...
last time I had this problem I did a factory reset and it really helped a lot with battery drain...

I myself did a factory reset last time I had a battery drain issue w/ my 9 Pro and it helped a lot..
First definitely try what @viktak recommended and then go from there..
I personally do not have a lot of stuff running in the background like sync, back up, find my device, and definitely don't have stuff like Instagram or Facebook running on my phone.
a poorly designed app can hog up your battery...
also what did I do to help a lot is my phone is rooted of course so I have SD maid pro and with that I can check and see what all is running on my phone..
Under developer option under running services it will tell you the basic services that are running but it's not going to tell you everything that's running on your phone...
Hopefully you get it figured out and yeah Oneplus is so much better than Samsung.. I know it's an opinion but I just can't stand using a Samsung devices after using a OnePlus...
I bought the Samsung Galaxy S8 Ultra tablet a month ago and don't get me wrong I freaking love that thing it is badass but I would love it a lot better if Oneplus would make a tablet like that. lmao

It really bugs me that you pay a hugh chunk of money for a samsung phone and it being paid off, Samsung says no-no you can't unlock your bootloader to customize YOUR phone....
try going into settings/battery and look for what is eating it up. that might help to!

yeah I agree..
I tell you what saved me is having ADB and Fastboot for Android ndk Magisk module...
it's nice man being able to hook my 9 pro up to this Samsung tablet and remove the bloatware just by using termux...
first thing I got rid of was Samsung's digital well-being.. man what an intrusive app!!
sorry OP for off topic....

Hey guys!
Thanks a lot for your advices. I will try putting in airplane mode tonight and check tomorrow. I will try resetting my phone if it drains while in AP mode.
I can send it back to Amazon within 2 remaining weeks.. when I root and unroot, will something like Knox be triggered?
Thanks so much <3

OnePlus doesn't have anything like Knox. If you factory reset and re-lock bootloader it's back to factory state. (Knox was awful, I don't miss Samsung.)

Even if the phone is rooted, OnePlus accepts returns.
If you are not successful in your attempts to find the culprit, you can use BetterBatteryStats from HERE, read the first couple of posts in that thread and generate an idle dump file as described there. It can be posted in that thread for help mentioning the airplane mode result also.
The airplane mode result is the bottomline, below which you can't go and if that is high, return the phone.

So a quick update:
i have not lost any percent battery during flight mode (10 hours)
Had then over the day almost 5 hours SOT and still had more than enough battery. (yeeey)
I live in Germany and work in Switzerland and right next door is France and my guess is that when automatically selecting network, as it is set by default, it switches all the time between the countries.
However, when I tested this with flight mode, I was on the home network and I assume there were no switches, which is why my battery got through the day better
I'm back at work right now and have manually selected the Swiss network this time and I'm very curious to see what percentage I'll have at the end of the day.
Does roaming drain a lot of battery that much? Can I check without root what consumes the most energy? BBS needs root, right?

No. If root is not available, you can grant the required permissions via adb. After installation, when the app is opened, the permissions screen pops up and guides you. Ofcourse, if root is available, it is only a matter of allowing root permission.

Battery Life dreadful after ITL41F

Hi Everyone,
I was wondering whether anybody else has experienced this side effect of the ITL41F update? My battery life has been really really good, much better than that of my HD7. I was really chuffed with it. Along comes the ITL41F update, and since then the battery will drain itself on standby. Nothing has changed on my phone. I have not installed any new apps or made any settings changes (such as sync frequency, etc). So the only difference is the ITL41F update.
To give you an idea, If I charge the phone in the late afternoon, and then pretty much leave it alone, by the morning it will have gone down to 15% battery or less. This morning I plugged it in again, and now it's down to 50%. And I only sent a single txt message and didn't do anything else on the phone. This is properly rubbish.
Anybody know where I can report this bug to Google/Samsung?

You have a lot of awake time without your screen been on which seems a little strange.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
I would say your mobile signal is using up a lot battery. when it is yellow that means its weak, and grey means no signal. Since this is the main 2 colours on your chart I would say this would be the main reason for your battery drain

How would someone go about improving that? My mobile connection is mostly yellow as well. Could APN settings help that? Or would I have to go about flashing a different modem and all that

Are you seriously asking that question?
You improve your mobile signal but getting your network provider to install another mast, or switch to a different network with better coverage in your area.
If you could improve signal with APN settings or flashing a different radio it would be done like that from the factory!
WEll, I have a LG Optimus One and use franco kernel with it, and am soon buying a GN because he develops for it too, SO:
FLASH FRANCO KERNEL!
DOnate him a beer before and ten after the WOW-experience you'll get when you realise 4 days later that your battery is only 10% becuase of the popup.
And now read my words again.
It's the best option!
Your phone was awake for more than 50% of the time. If you really didn't use it, there's most likely a rogue app which is preventing phone from going into deep sleep.
Use an app like System panel to locate the culprit.
nevermind - delete me
Thanks for the fast replies guys, it's much appreciated! =)
What I find puzzling is that absolutely NOTHING has changed on the phone, apart from the update. So if there was a rogue app that was consuming the battery, it should have exhibited that behaviour before the update, right?
I will check with system monitor though, to see if I can spot something. The strange thing I noticed is that the OS is consuming *more* battery than most other functions. Even on standby.... weird!
After finally getting the patch I can't say the battery has been worse. In fact it seems to be better. Although I think that is down to the fact I've been through a few charge cycles now.
click on android OS, and check out the awake and CPU times. The cpu time should be a fractions of the time awake.
example, my phone has been on this charge for 22 hours (still 36% battery left.. didn't use it too much this charge). the leading battery drain is screen at 51% (2.5 hours awake time), and the 2nd leading item is Android OS which has the following:
CPU Total - 18m 53s
Keep Awake - 4h 46m 9s
I'm just curious on why your CPU total was in relation to the awake time by Android OS.
Mines great.

its funny how many similar theads appear everytime a phone gets updated. And most of them all go down to user error.
Just saying. my Gnex is fine after 11F update, OP should probably do a wipe
Guys, I'm not ruling out 'user error', but at this moment in time I cannot see what I could have possibly done to cause it. I have purchased System Panel on the Market and I'm running it in monitoring mode to see if it can shed some light on the issue. Strangely, 'Cut the Rope' and 'Exchange' are running constantly and as a service. Not necessarily consuming CPU while the phone is asleep though. Just though it would be strange for a game to be running as a service? Must be a reason for it....
Ask the developper of "Cut the Rope" why does it need to run that way. Exchange is run as a service because you probably need it.
Anyways, you can try a clean flash with stock ITL41F. But i'd say apps are to blame

Did you factory reset after the update? If not I realize it sucks to do, but.....that's the road I would venture down.....have yet to own a Samsung that it wasn't almost mandatory to do. Always a battery and sleep issue.

Battery life after Jelly Bean Update

how was your battery life after update . my was suck drain very fast
I don't know how most people got better battery life, but mine worse, not extreme, but noticeable worse.
Android system and Android OS takes second and third place, which on ICS I barely see their place on top of battery usage.

Seems the same for me...at first after updating battery life was terrible..but after a few charges and reboots it seems to be getting better.
Download an app from the play store called "CPU Stats" and see if the CPU is under serious load when you're not doing anything. If it is, you may have the same issue I had which was that the media scanner was getting stuck in folders that had a lot of files in them. My idle cpu utilization now hovers between 8-30% on core 1 and core 2 stays sleep for the most part.

If you're rooted, look in system/bin on the root directory and see if you have a file named gsiff.daemon (also do the same for qosmgr) If so, add .bak to the end of it.
this will kill the high android usage!

I offloaded my Titanium Backup folder to my PC & deleted it from my phone plus made sure to get rid of any corrupted pictures (aimed at the 0 bytes ones). So not only is my battery life better, but the performance is also much better because the CPU(s) aren't really doing anything until I actually use the phone. Note that this is an issue I've only had w/ Touchwiz Jellybean and never had it with CM10 or any AOSP based rom. This is a bug that Samsung/Google really needs to get on top of because I'm sure that a lot of people are having this problem and don't know how to fix it.

My battery life has been amazing
This was after the weekend. Friday Morning I charged it and then I was off I went to work. After I went to a party didn't charge my phone. Woke up in some girls room. Still surprised I had more than 50%. I didn't go home that day and everyone had an iphone so I couldn't charge my baby. Wake up go home and I had this much and I was like wow holy sh**.
Stats: I had a little over an hour of talk time and a little under 2 hours of screen time.
Yeah I know why is battery life good if you don't use the phone but dude seriously I had a GS2 and drainage on standby was so bad. I like that they improved standby battery drainage this was beautiful. I have the latest Stock Jelly Bean. Rooted, debloated myself with stock Kernel. Might add a new Kernel but don't really need to this is just great.

I was having this exact issue and fixed mine by copying my external SD card contents onto my desktop and then reformatting my sd card. After that I just transfered my old pictures and videos back to my card.
For people who are having poor battery life, the best thing you can do to help others help you is post a screen shot or at least write down what is using your battery and how long you have screen on time. When I was having my media issue it was obvious when looking at the battery usage since my cpu was constantly awake. Just saying "i have poor battery life" really doesn't explain much at all.
That would explain things... I had my media scanner get stuck and take down my battery a couple of days ago... after a reboot though it was much better... Though I should have let this run longer on battery just to see how long it would run.
Ok so since the JB update it seems my battery has been draining a bit faster. I've tried turning off sync and all the other normal stuff but it doesn't seem to help. Here are my stats and the slight lapse on the time line was when I was in CWM doing a nandroid backup.
I don't think that you can compare yours since you did a backup, that always drains the battery more than normal use would.
Well all I can say is its normally like that. I pull my phone off the charger at 7 am and by 4pm its usually at 10% with maybe an hour of on screen time. I'm just trying to figure out why it dies so much quicker than what most people are posting here. I try to keep everything closed and off and I've frozen all the bloatware.

note 2 update to 4.1.2

hey i was a while ago waiting for the 4.1.2 update of the note 2 n7100 ... i saw a couple of days ago that people are not satisfied with the update and that it is causing problems ,, mainly the " SDS" and others complaining about freezes.
can someone tell me what is the update version that is having this problem??
also have anyone here faced this problem with the update
if your eMMc chip is vulnerable to sds, the 4.1.2 temporaly fix it,also it fix exynos abuse
The problem i have faced since the update is:
The phone will never go on deepsleep, reducing battery life.
Is highly recommended that if your phone is vulnerable to sds upg to 4.1.2
well i checked and my phone is not vulnerable ,, i saw that the update has some new features that seemed to be useful , i will consider updating ...
anyway thanks bro
There are no problems with 4.1.2, it has several small improvements. Never had reboot or freeze or anything wrong happen. The only problem is battery life which is shorter then with 4.1.1....

I don't have any "numbers" but it is so OBVIOUS, not small difference.... I.e. overnight drain was 1-2% now it is 10% at least... previously I charged my Note II until midnight, in the morning it was like 98%, I used it whole day at work and came home at 5pm with like 40-50% battery. Now I charge it at work until lunchtime (12:00) and come home and it is like 40-50% level... so NOTICABLE diference....

Taken on my 4.1.2 stock device. And that's with BT on all the time, and WIFI on when the screen is on, and just a brief 10 minutes or so on charge.
Battery life on 4.1.2 is just fine.
some devices will have normal battery life on 4.1.2, my phone got a random wakelock with 4.1.2, while my mother note 2 with 4.1.2 got normal battery life.

forget everything now,,, look guys i am updating my phone .. tonight i will post my battery status
however; tonight i will include battery status of my phone with no background apps..[i will shut down everything including wifi , BT , antivirus]
tomorow i will turn on BT, WIFI & lookout antivirus
I was expecting to find more people talking about issues with the 4.1.2 upgrade - does appear to be a minority (that I am unfortunately in)
Since upgrading, my (sim free) Note 2 has gone from being just about perfect in operation and behaviour to suffering;
- Daily episodes of freezing (often requiring a battery out to reset)
- 2 or 3 times a day it will randomly re-boot itself
- whilst typing on keyboard often suddenly goes very laggy
- battery life has *defnintely* worsened (probabbly by around 15% or so per days use - it does deep sleep though)
- calendar view/settings reset themselves every re-boot (annoying)
All the above annoy the cr4p out of me, as I am super picky with my phones/devices and I'm pretty dissappointed with this - given the phone was SO slick pre-update. I can't stand to have a buggy phone, so unless there's an update to cater for these issues very soon (.3?) it's S4 for me.
(I would roll back to .1 in a heartbeat, but looking at how to do it, it's tantamount to a rooting processs in it's 'complexity' - you guys may be adept at such things, but to me they just look like an uneccessary ball-ache - shame there can't be a kind of 'macro/apk/idiots program' that does it all for you! But there you go, I'll have to suffer for now and see which way to jump in a few weeks I guess).
My advice? DON'T upgrade to .2 - I can't see any discernable benefit in day to day use, but I can see a LOT of irritating downside.
Very pi55ed off
Sounds like you've got something else going on than the 4.1.2 update. I have NONE of those issues at all, and battery life is just as excellent as it ever was.
i'm on 4.1.2
I've updated my mobile to 4.1.2
Baseband version : N7100XXDLK7
Build number : N7100XXDMB5
and i don't have any single problem with that update....
and the battery performance has really improved

tonight i will put BT and WIFI on

seems like I'll wait to root specially now with the built in battery
I decided to start fresh and will wait for a fix on this root issue. Hopefully it comes soon.
I can confirm this as well. My battery life is atrocious with everything disabled (google now, location, wifi, etc)...less than my Nexus 5 with everything enabled.

Here's a great guide if you guys decide to unroot and start over. Make sure you guys thank the OP of that thread.
I'm not sure how to actually confirm it for you, but my phone has been off charge for 2 hours, and I am at 98%.
I bought the phone on Friday, ran the OTA that popped up as soon as I powered on whilst still at the store, came home and rooted. Disabled a bunch more bloat, but the battery wasn't great. It was iPhone territory.
Yesterday, I started over with a full KiES install that included that OTA. I rooted again and then re-installed everything from TB. This has seemed to make a marked improvement. That said, tomorrow will be a true to test of the battery as It's a work day, I'm travelling, and I'll be roaming up in Canada.
This is very helpful - thanks! Please, if you think of it, let us know how Monday goes? Appreciate it!

I looked a little bit more through this thread and saw that CPU Spy app, so I ran it, and I am deep sleeping after root. Please do note, however, that I have WiFi set to always on, one of my email accounts in Nine is set to not sync at all during off-peak hours (which includes the weekend), and the other one only syncs every two hours during the same period.
I will definitely still update on Monday as it will be punishing.

So you are rooted and going into deep sleep ??? Just want to be 100% sure before rooting my device
FWIW, that is how I understand it. I think I'm going to take the plunge, using the CF-Auto-Root-zerofltetmo-zerofltetmo-smg920t file. Would love if someone out there could tell me that I am on the right track!!

Correct. Clean flash is a must, however.
This is where I am confused. Define (please) "Clean Flash". I did a restore using SS a few hours ago, but have since restored data, apps, etc. Please elaborate. Thanks.
Deff didn't work for me...... I had perfect deep sleep over 4 hrs of screen time...... I had done the samsung smart switch now rooted and yeap no deep sleep at all stuck at 400mh all the time

Yep. OTA = bad, clean = good.
Are you guys re-rooting with the CF-Auto-Root-zerofltetmo-zerofltetmo-smg920t.tar ?
If so has your device been able to deep sleep

If you're asking these questions, you probably shouldn't be attempting to root or modify your device at all.
Everything is fine now..... rooting and deep sleep are friends again lol
So if i understand correctly
Reflash S6 with Kies or Odin then Root and this should improve batt life?

Yes. I have deep sleep working fine after rerooting but I also am running the stock recovery file Posted here.
http://zidroid.com/download-t-mobile...tock-recovery/
I have probably rerooted a slew of times for for various reasons. Last method was to first restore stock firmware using Kies method. It will ask for your serial number. If you can get to download mode, puch home key and wrote down serial number you will see there. Ther serial number for your phone is NOT the IME number which Samsung as well as TMobile kept telling me was the correct serial number. On top of that, First level support asked me to remove my battery to finde serial number under the battery. LOL....great support we pay for
seems to be working really good for me so far
havent truely tested the phone out
last night i factory reset my phone rooted then flashed stock recovery then wiped cache
set up my phone disables some bloat
the night before the phone died while i was sleeping
last night it barely dropped 1% so deep sleep is working
right now im at 39% phones been on for 12h 13m since last charge
and i have 2h 30m on screen time,
need to do some more testing. a couple more charge cycles should make it right
how are u guys charging your phone? letting it die then letting it charge to a full 100? or what
Getting pretty decent life myself.
Just look at this
I didn't watch any movies, just plain browsing, couple of messages, 25 minutes gaming and using some apps (Facebook, google + and a couple of news apps).

good stats from your end... but i seem to be having an issue after I:
took OTA
then rooted
went back n flashed stock FW
rooted again
I fully charge last night around 11pm, and woke up around 5:30am and battery was down to 91%... Just now i had to fully charge again since I was down to about 10% ... Any ideas??
UPDATE:
Don't know if this fix the battery drain issue.. But after rooting, flashing back stock FW and rooting again over the weekend the battery took a massive hit. Just last night with about 78% i decided to odin the Stock Recovery. I went to sleep with 76% and woke up to a 74% battery. I guess the stock recovery worked --- but then on my 2.5 hour commute i left the house with 73% and when i check back at my office i was at 55% (browsing, FB and soundcloud player on) I guess that's normal ???
Completely stock and happy with the battery life.
Loving my battery life! Rooted, custom kernel and twrp
