Hi all. I've got 270 memos on my S7 Edge. Is it possible to get them copied over into my S21 FE Samsung Notes app and if so, how? Thanks.

Thanks. You know what, I'm not sure I ever registered a Samsung Account. I guess I'll need to register an account first.
Would I then need to backup my memos to Samsung Cloud before anything else? Also, will my memos look the same in Samsung notes or will they look different or get jumbled since they seem to be different apps?
yes in first you need to registrer with your S7 and with your new device open samsung note and after registring , you can import all your memos
sorry but i have not tested
but if you have a computer maybe you can found them somewhere in folders ( internal storage ) when you connect your device

Ok, I do have a Samsung account, I'd forgotten. So I logged into that.
Here's the problem I'm having now. On the Samsung Cloud app on my S7 Edge, I enabled 'Memo' sync. Where it says 'Sync now', I click on it and it says 'Syncing...' and below that it says 'Tap here to stop syncing'. First time I did it it took several minutes. Seemed a long time. Then it showed 241 memos synced and it also said 'can't sync' below it. I have 270 memos though so it was 29 memos short. Next thing I saw was 588 memos synced. Not sure how that happened but I didn't want a bunch of duplicates. So I logged in on the Web version of Samsung Cloud and deleted the data file with 588 memos.
Going back to the S7 Cloud app on the phone, I clicked 'Sync now' again. After 10 minutes I thought it was taking way too long so I clicked to stop syncing. It said '0 memos (0 kb)'. Now every time I click to sync, it finishes syncing in about one second and still says '0 memos (0kb)', along with 'Last synced: *date, time*.
In settings/app on the phone, I've cleared data and cache for Samsung Cloud. It's not helped though, I'm still getting 0 memos synced. I've looked on Cloud & Accounts > Accounts > Samsung Account and I can't find anywhere to log out, only remove account.
Do you have any suggestions how I can get the sync to work?
you can try to backup S7 with ( Samsung ) smart switch

Yes, Smart Switch worked perfectly! And it's worked really well. All my old memos have remained in date order in Samsung Notes, nothing jumbled or unreadable; looks just as I'm used to seeing them on the old phone. And Samsung Notes is a better app than the old Memos, lots more options and customisation. It gave me a couple of duplicates, 272 memos instead of 270, but no problem. Smart Switch also transferred about 7gb of other apps and I only selected Memos on the old phone, but still, doesn't matter. I'll just delete whatever I don't want anymore. It's a pity games transfer across with no save data and that I'll have to start them again from level 1, but I was expecting that.
Thanks for all your excellent help, yakapa.

If you want facebook stuff out of contacts, open the people app, hit menu then view, and uncheck facebook for htc sense. This will not remove the facrbook stuff already there you will have to delete it manualy but it will stop new stuff from being added or updated.

I'm not on a sense rom tthough. I'm on cm7. I don't have that feature

I think this is really annoying, too. Especially if you switch between Sense and AOSP roms. Unfortunately, I haven't found a quick way to mass delete all the notes. You have to manually edit each contact and erase it. But as long as you never use another Sense rom, the notes won't fill back up, so that's a plus.
Neat trick I have used before, though: delete the notes with MIUI. It's got a quick clear button to erase all the content in a contact's note box. You still have to manually edit each contact, but it's a little faster than CM7 or anything...
You can also try this app that's supposed to replicate the MIUI contacts and see if that works for the quick clear: http://goo.gl/TtOcU
Hope this made sense.
Just putting it out there that there may be an app that can do this.
I know I used an app to erase a bunch of annoying duplicate contacts I had after I accidently restored them 3 times. Of course this is a much more specific problem, and I haven't checked, but just throwing ya some ideas
just went through them all. thumb hurts. lol

Only by doing it manually
Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk
I had to do it manually too. I sync my Gmail contacts so it was a little easier to manually erase the "HTC Notes" on the web interface.
1. Export all the contacts to the SD card, which produces a .VCF file.
2. Edit this VCF file with a good text editor like TextPad, and use that to delete any lines beginning with 'NOTE:', e.g. use the regular expression '^NOTE:'
3. Delete all the contacts off the phone - the app 'Contact Remover' can do this.
4. Force a sync; this is because you may get a warning about too many deletions. If so, confirm the delete. Check they are all gone.
5. Import from the SD card.

Not one click, but it works way better than what I've had to do before.
1. Open contacts in gmail on web.
2. Export all contacts to GoogleCSV
3. Download the file.
4.Edit the CSV and just clear the whole notes column or edit them individually if you have contacts with notes already.
5. Delete all your gmail contacts.
6. Import newly edited file.

Wouldn't this remove any contact pictures associated with those contacts?
I don't believe the CSV file stores the picture....which means in my case I'd have just as much of a PITA to fix the pictures.
I'm really surprised no one's created a contact cleaner app yet... there was a great one on my old Palm device eons ago that would let you do all sorts of things to standardize your contacts.
Can't JOIN contacts if HTCData exists in notes field
I wrote up my solution to this problem a little bit here thanks to the this forum thread above.
http://androidforums.com/samsung-ga...tcdata-exists-in-notes-field.html#post5968115
Hey guys,
i am using all my android phones for a while with all the gapps provided. i really like them, but there are some things that make me angry and really would like to get rid of them.
let me start with the contacts syncing.
contacts app is fine, especially the way u can attach pictures to your contacts, which will be displayed in nice looking hd quality when getting a call.
so far so good. lets sync with your google account. oh well... picutures really look bad now. and each time you sync with it... it will be bad again, no matter what
(i know, the problem is the googleservice itself. we cant do **** here)
but how to handle this? if there would be another way to safe my contacts in a easy way, i would like to hear it.
so first point: no need for contacts sync
next point is gallery. i dont need the sync for it. google does not need to know anything
next point, music app. its fine, but there is no need for me attach it to my google-acc
calendar is nice and will be used. but even with this, i do not need it on other devices.
last two points are the market and maps. here we get a problem
i do need both of them. is there a way to avoid using a google account?
this could be a workaround for ppl who dislike using a google account in future maybe... if it is even possible. i dont know right now
You can disable account-wide sync for all the apps that you've mentioned. Gallery is a little tricky especially if you are using G+ but it's possible. In fact, you can skip signing into a Google acocunt completely should give you a clue.
You will only have problems with the market. As far as I know, you have to have a google account to download apps from the google market. But you could always install 3rd markets like Amazon appstore, Slideme and GetJar, off the top of my head.
the biggest problem i have is the contacts.
is there a way to easy backup them and restore, maybe when switching roms or whatever?
some for my calendar. how to restore it without signing in?
ps: i am not using g+
pps: if someone would know if there is a data folder or whatever, where the contents of my contacts and sms and calendar are saved, that would be enogth for me.
coz then i could just cut it off there and place it in my new roms
Your problem with contacts is bad picture quality..? Then don't put pictures on your contacts.. Google isn't looking at your pictures either. If you want to use the market you need a Google account. None of the information is stored on your phone so there is no folder on your phone that will let you back these up.

You can completely disable all syncing to your Google account if you want, but you're really just making it harder on yourself than it needs to be.
I realize there are some little niggles that are annoying about how its working right now, but I think its a bigger hassle to completely turn it off and do it all manually with a mishmash of other services.
if there would be a solution to have high quality contact pictures, i would use it. no problem with it
but it seems really ugly. dont you have that ****?
just as an example i found on the internet...

this is what any contact picture looks like after syncing my contacts.
if i just attach one without sync enabled, it looks awesome. after syncing, its like the picture
there must be any workaround for this problem...?!?

You just said it yourself.. don't sync your contacts. You aren't forced to sync anything. If you get pictures from Facebook there is an app called Haxsync that will give you high quality pictures.

thats the point, where to get my contacts if not syncing when switching the roms?
and no, i dont use any social network
STOP
We are forced to sync! Ok one can avoid it if you now what options to be checked and which not. But in first place everything is synced to somewhere. You have to some kind of "pro" to avoid it completly
I had all my contacts accidently synced to google after android "stole" my thunderbird contacts claimed that they have to be googlemail.com contacts and then after an accidently removal of an small hook evrythink went to google.
The best was that my thunderbird then all contacs removed as well, because my phone said "all contacts in the homeaccount have been deleted"
###Just to have my anger put at least somewhere###
To come back to the orginal poster:
Now it works all perfectly well with birdiesync (i read somewhere but havent tried thta MyPhoneExplorer would to the trick as well), i have only an google account for market access reasons. I dont use gmail (as google reads all mails in order have the right advertisement for me) but k9. Just deactivate syncing under settings.
But i cant so far confirm that the contact pics arent downsized. Because i dont really care...

Hi everyone!
I've had my One X for about a month or so and I'm really enjoying my phone! Although there is one thing that really bugs me! When I want to send a SMS to a new contacts, or call a person, every single contact I have shows up. That means both Google, Facebook and SIM contacts. The funny thing is, they only show up in the "Phone" app and the "SMS" app contacts list. If I manually go to "Contacts" app, then only the SIM-contacts show up. I really only want my SIM contacts showing up there.. Is there any way of working out this problem? Here's a picture showing the problem: imgur-dot-com/ZxEGo
Thanks in advance!

You can "manage" contacts at: on your phone, go to People, select Menu (3 dots on top right) and select "Manage contacts". There you will find options for "De-duplicate contacts" & "Merge contacts". Use Merge contacts if you have multiple accounts synced.
Additionally you can go to each contacts and "Edit" and link them to their duplicate entry.
Hope this helps.

That is in the People app, not the Phone app.
Unfortunately there is no way to remove these additional numbers unless you disable contact syncing from within Facebook. It's especially annoying when someone changes there number but doesn't update it in Facebook. You then end up two numbers for one contact and don't know which one is correct

Ok... Please bear with me here. New Cell/android user SIII. I had the only contacts (6) I wanted in my phone which is associated with my Gmail #1 email address that is registered with my SIII. It was fine. I don't use this phone very much. The other day I turned my phone on and I had my entire Contact list from my GMAIL #2 account in my contacts list... All 160 of them plus the Gmail #1 (6 contacts). I must have did something in the SIII that brought all these contacts from my GMAIL #2 into my SIII Phone. I don't want this. I tried deleting one of the Contacts from GMAIL #2 from the SIII and it also deleted it from my GMAIL #2 email contact list on my desktop computer. I certainly do not want these contacts in my phone.
The questions here are...
How can I delete all of these contacts from GMAIL #2 from my phone Contact List in the SIII without deleting them from my original GMAIL #2 account.
What did I do to make this happen? I'm sure it just didn't get this way. I must have did something.
Finally: Is there some sort of Manual for this phone/android other than what I got with the phone? A practical Hands on/How to use this phone?
Tap menu and then scroll down to accounts. Have a look in the Google and Samsung accounts.
Should have options for contact sync.

Go into settings and under the accounts area click Google and remove the #2 account which should remove those contacts you don't want on your phone, then you can add the account back but when you do make sure the contacts box is unchecked when it gives you the options of what to sync. That should work for what I believe you want to do

Contacts Thanks
Thanks for the answers. I deleted the GMAIL #2 account and that solved the problems and saw the settings. I must have synced them. Now... If I bring the Gmail #2 account back on and do not sync the contacts but check to have my email only show up (Checked) on my phone will that be ok. Also... Can I just add contacts to my phone and unchecking Contacts to email #1 or #2 Contacts? I would like to be able to check my emails on #1 & #2 but just manually add contacts.
Thanks again...

Wait, you have only 6 contacts you want in this phone?!
Honestly, it doesn't really matter how many you have in your phone, you never really have to page through them to call people. Just go to the phone dialer and start typing the number associated with the letters in their names. They pop up automatically. I have like 2200 contacts because it pulls all my work email contacts in automagically. Don't stress it, its easy to find.
Alternatively, you can always just put those 6 people on your home screen, or star them and put them in a widget....there's a lot of things you can do to isolate them.
For a good Android manual, I suggest Androidcentral.com Android 101 : http://www.androidcentral.com/tags/android-101

Ya if you go back to that same Google section In the settings then and select one at a time and uncheck the contacts box and just the emails you will be able to have both emails with none of the contacts and just add them as you want. But remember most likely whatever email you set up first will most likely save whatever contacts you add to the phone going forward

Hi, it finally worked.
I disabled and re-enabled the backup feature, backups got deleted and left the phone charging overnight. This morning loads of apps were backed up! I'm actually surprised how in a couple of months developers are finally targeting SDK 23 and enabling backups.

To know if an app is capable of backup, get the .apk, decompile it and read through the manfiest file
Target SDK must be 23
You may or not find strings about backup.
If nothing is mentioned, backup is enabled by default for these apps
You may see that the dev has blocked the backup. This is the case of Pushbullet, Whatsapp, Adobe Reader and others. It's android:allowBackup="false"
If you see android:allowBackup="true" the dev is just "forcing" the backup
Some apps rely on a different type of backup, like Nova Launcher, which has a "Backup Agent". These apps won't appear in the backup list. Nova Launcher has a backup feature to local and cloud but it's manual, so I don't know if it's really working or not. In theory this method is for older versions of Android.
There is something I don't like about this feature. Apparently the job will backup only apps that were installed 24hrs earlier, and updates are counted as new installation. So if this afternoon you get an app updated, tonight it won't be backed up. I think this is a bit silly. There should also be a way to force backups like on iOS - if I need to wipe my device how am I supposed to get backups updated? (I have root, but it's a general question).
This is the list of apps which backed up. Yesterday I have analyzed most of them, so I was expecting to get a decent list.
