Bought the set overseas, Anyway i can turn off the camera sound when taking pictures without rooting my phone ? Located in Singapore
No, not without root.
You need to edit the devinfo partition to reset the Model Number from GR1YH – Japan to GB7N6 – US Unlocked (and most other countries).
For that you will either need to use an SU session in adb to copy the partition, hexedit it offline in your PC, and reload back to the phone.; or, you may find a magisk module such as MID Changer v2.06 [Credits: XDA Senior Member ziano ] that will do the job.
There are full instructions out there - search for "How to Convert Japanese Pixel 6 to Global Version". Once you've done that, the "Camera Sounds" setting will survive upgrades.
That link may now be dead, so you're probably stuck with adb and hexediting the partition.

Some Asian countries (especially Japan & Korea) have enacted laws to forbid this. Japan is the birthplace of the camera phone. And, unfortunately, it's also the birthplace of creeps taking photos with their phones that they shouldn't be taking, like up a woman's skirt. So it's a "security" feature to warn people when someone is taking a photo.

Hello everyone,
Long story short, just bought nexus 5x, I have developed a few kernels in past for various devices, and I am little bit disappointed with n5x camera.
Phone does make awesome pictures, but it lacks longer shutter speeds, I would like to unlock it. Some people say that it is hardware limited, some that software, so here I am asking you how is it for real, and please, answer with any arguments, proofs, I would like to avoid guessing.
I would like to know if there is any sense in trying to unlock it and digging through source code.
Cheers
I managed to take photos with 1 s shutter speed with L Camera.

Most probably fake Bulb mode, which is as stated by app creator - fake. Just multiple 1/6s pictures stacked up together

Nexus 5 hardware is capable of capturing photos at 0.86s shutter speed (5x probably too). And this app uses this capability.
1 fps preview confirms this.

I confirm the with L-Camere 0.3 is possible to have a shutter time of 1s (if I select 1/1,2) and the night photos are incredible

Looks like HTC 10 has same camera sensor and it's camera app allows to use 2s shutter speed, unfortunately, none of htc camera app versions let's me go manual on our nexus.
Also Xiaomi YI 2 action camera has it, and it allows up to 30s while taking pics. So i guess I/we would have to edit camera libs. I also emailed lcamera creator but I don;t think that he will respond.

Here is the download link that you suggested. Any chance you can send us your configuration?
Link: https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/f/changelog666/
It works with wide angle, however, the RAW is still not working. If you enable RAW it will make take the image and it will be roughly 20 MB, however, when you look at the image it is very blurry and the resolution is 600-700.
The flash is also not working. The picture will be taken but not saved on normal angle with no crashing. On wide angle for some reason, you cant enable flash.

I guess you are correct. Flash doesn't appear to be working correctly (don't typically use flash so never noticed). And you are correct about RAW photos coming out blurry (don't use RAW either so never noticed). Entertained the idea to use the GCam.. I like the pics it does take, but all in all, the original Samsung app still works better when it comes to more options. But it was an interesting test run, so thank you.

I find the Samsung Camera app unusable due to the image quality.
In terms of GCam, I found the S10 port had the best quality, not sure if its just my mind playing tricks on me or what. I've been using version 6.1.021 with the profile from the link below.
No wide angle, no raw, flash works, but the quality seems the best. Hopefully someone can fix wide angle and raw support on this version.

Weird how 4K 60fps only works on the ultrawide camera and not the main camera.
Is there any gcam mod that allows to record 8k and 4k/120fps? BTW I tried many mods and I did not find any with all functionalities available: all cameras, motion photos, night sight etc. If motion photos available, only single camera can be used, etc.
I also don't understand why they decided to remove all languages other than English from all mods. Original Gcam supports many languages.

Not at the moment, as far as I know but our device's release happend less than a month ago so the development is still in early stages. BSG is quite fast at updates so hopefully it'll eventually happen.

What is much more simple? Additional languages strings are original from Google, no need to touch them. Of course, additional custom settings will appear in English only, because they won't be translated.
Additional effort required to remove all translations. So it's opposite to what you are saying

I think so, yes. I read Snapcam is recommended for phones from BBK-owned smartphone brands. However keep in mind a brand could "block" the access to auxiliary cameras at any moment. For example Samsung blocked access to the selfie camera, so in GCam ports, the selfie camera just does not work on Samsungs... Not sure if they have fixed it, but I know it's been a problem for Samsung users.

You can download a XML file, and import it to the GCam app. It will import settings from the file, so if you find a XML file for the 9 Pro BSG Gcam port, just download it and import it via the app. Also you can create XML files yourself, and share them if you want as well.

Some manufacturers have even coded things to prevent third-party cameras from using the phone's full camera resolution capabilities. On OnePlus devices they could be locked to 12 MP, even the main camera.

Nothing, really. They just have different signatures. If you find that certain additional modules (Magisk flashables that add or enhance a device's camera functions) don't work, try the other. Some devices have a camera version signed specifically for them (ie, Samsung phones) because of this. It just happens that the snapcam signature seems to work best on our device.
I'm having some nasty issues with a strong lilac purple pink RAW files from Gcam recently. It makes it unusable. It worked fine before but suddenly this problem started happening, perhaps it came after a system update. :/

I want the ability to increase exposure times in astro mode, also want manual controls for shutter time etc in other spots.
I've looked and haven't found one that works perfectly with the Pixel 6 Pro. Has anyone found a good modded GCam yet??
I am using MWP gcam 8.3.253: it works rather well on the P6 pro (all lenses) and offers some manual tweaking (including for astro). It is still a beta version.
I'm not sure how this works, but will it be possible to have a mod that retains the precise version of GCam that's on the Pixel 6 Pro, but simply adds functionality? Eg. the ability to alter sharpness and noise settings? Or is it necessary that the mod replace the entire thing with a new version?
Oh, and would this require rooting the phone?
