Hi Folks
Sometimes when some apps update from the play store their shortcuts disappear from the home screens (if I have paced one there), the app itself will still be present and correct in the app drawer, but there are empty spaces on the home screen where their shortcut was before the app was updated.
Their seems to be no rhyme or reason to when or which apps have there shortcuts removed. Some will go several updates with no change then suddenly they're gone, others do it every time they update and some never do it.
Is there a reason for this behavior? Is there a way to prevent it or at least understand when it will happen?
Sometimes I don't realise the shortcut is missing until sometime after several app updates and then I'm flicking through my home-screens and there is a blank where there shouldn't be and I'm wondering what app I had there...
This is with a stock HOX with the most recent android/sense.
Thanks
As far as I know it should not remove the icons from the Home screen if the app is just updating. It's possible some update actually remove the original application and install the new update such cases it may remove the shortcut from the Home screen since there is an uninstall process happening after the installation.
Hello everyone,
I have my HTC One M8 (standard european silver version from shop) for one month and I am facing mini lags in animation when I exit app drawer to main screen with widgets. It is not happening everytime, maybe in one of five attempts. I is not very serious and otherwise device works very well, but I am dissapointed a bit, because I thought HTC Sense is fastest android customized UI. I was experiencing it with stock 4.4.3 and also after update to 4.4.4 few weeks ago. I have also done reset to factory settings after update to 4.4.4, but it didnt help. I noticed that lag is more frequent, when the main screen is filled with icons (I have here big HTC weather widget, HTC music widget, and 8 icons. Then on second main screen I have calendar widget and on last screen I have blinkfeed. And there are only like 5 apps installed, autosync is off, nothing is running on background, I have even disabled some running HTC apps (Facebook, Fitbit, Kids Mode, Twitter, Dot view...), but still the same. I dont want to root it and I would like to avoid alternative launchers, because I like HTC blinkfeed and widgets.
Is anybody else having this problem? What should I do to fix it? I have also tried to force GPU rendering in Developer options, but it didnt help.
Thanks
I can return to home from menu over and over with no noticeable lag. This is with HTC weather clock widget, 8 app icons, and 2 other widgets. Stock debloated 4.4.4 ROM.
Does it do this after a factory reset, with no 3rd party apps (or at at least minimal) installed?
Yes, as I mentioned, I have done factory reset as well and issue is there immediately after I fill main screen with HTC widgets and icons (with blank home screen issue is hardly noticable and very rare though), without any 3rd applications installed. And lag is very hardly to track, because some days it is not noticable at all and some other days it it more agressive.

Take a look at the services that's running in the background or maybe a rogue app is causing this issues. I once faced a similar issue on my HTC Desire and I factory reset the device and reduced the apps installed and everything was back to normal

Are you using "power saver"? It limits power to your CPU.
It might be the culprit. Taking a guess here.
I've been having the same issues after the 4.4.4 update. Did a hard reset, and alas, no improvements. The only thing that seems to improve overall performance and battery life, as well as eliminate the glitches is switching to ART (from developer options). The only other option for me, practically, is to unlock bootloader or s-off, then flash 4.4.2 which was simply amazing.
Anyway, try switching to ART, you WILL notice great improvement
First of all, thank you guys for tips.
I dont think this is caused by some background process, because as I mentioned, issue is there immediately after actory reset, when I fill main screen with HTC widgets. And also benchmark performance is good (more than 43000 points in new Antutu) and battery life as well, so there is not process eating CPU power.
And I am not using power saving mode.
I been thinking about switching to ART before, but I have done some research and some users are reporting issues with some applications after switching to ART.. Maybe I will just have to wait 2 months for official Android 5.0 update, which will be running on ART and I hope it will fix this minor but annoying issue.
Perhaps your expectations are slightly high? Any device has its odd laggy times.
Clear the cache. Watch your free space. Greenify games and any social apps that you can live without notifications. We don't know your setup or what is running... You may have "everything on", 5 social apps running and who knows what else.
Hard to troubleshoot this honestly. If you have an inefficient setup and CPU hungry apps running in the background, of course you'll see stutters. ?

You probably have a bunch of apps running in the background. I've set "long press back button" to kill apps and keep them from running in the background.
Another way to kill running apps is to go to the "recent apps" on navbar (or pie controls if you are like me) and tap the squiggly line in a box at the top/task manager.
Kill the apps that are running that you aren't using (except for hangouts if you use it for sms, sms, email, anything you want running for notifications pretty much) and see if that helps.
If you don't want to use task manager, you could just reboot your phone for the same results.
Task manager is quicker though.
OP, you are right that Sense has lag especially returning to home screen. I always had it and it was pretty annoying coming from the Nexus 5. Changing launchers to Google Now launcher helps the home screen lag issue. It's just a Blinkfeed launcher issue that you are experiencing.
HTC One M8
Guys I am telling you again and again, that this issue is present immediately after factory reset (when I just set HTC widgets and icons on main screen).
This is the list of my current running apps (see attachment, I have disabled almost everything)
I now think that this issue is on every HTC ONE M8 (as Elisha confirmed), but I am just too sensitive to lags. Even cheap ZTE of my sister with Nova launcher has smoother transition to main menu in most cases.
Let see how HTC will handle Android 5 update, maybe it will be better.
Mine is smooth as silk. Better than my N5 even.
Debloated, some greenifying, location off, Nova Launcher... Most sense apps frozen. Incredible battery life and lag free.
It's not all M8's. ?

And so for anyone that bothered by "mini" lag, There's your answer. Or live with it by choice.
Yes I read... I always read. Thanks for the tip tho. ?
I have the AT&T version and it had stutters going from the app drawer to the home screen every time from the moment I first turned it on. I RUU'd to Developer version, OTA'd to 4.4.4 and there are no stutters now. Totally smooth fade. Nearly every transition is completely smooth.
I'm not sure if it's the developer RUU or 4.4.4, but it's very smooth with Blinkfeed launcher.
after updating to one ui 2.1, wallpaper scrolling in nova launcher or any other launcher has been stopped, i tried reinstalling but problem persists. is anyone having this issue ? any solution ?? help please.
i have the exact same issue. no more scrolling in any of the launchers i tried after one ui 2.1 update
tried evie and nova.
maybe something to do with the way wallpapers get cropped has changed?
I discovered the same thing...three days ago, after running all the updates on my brand new Note 10+. I'm glad to know it used to work, speaks to a non-zero chance Samsung might fix it? I'm largely resigned to not being able to mod phones anymore (got lucky with the Note 4), but this kind of stings.
I have this problem too and it's driving me nuts! I did notice that it still scrolls in the dock on any launcher, but rest of the background will not scroll. I've searched everywhere too and haven't found a solution for it yet.
I've disable HW overlay and for 2 days now it's good...I dont play games, but I did have lags on UI.
I tried to change my wallpaper after 2.1 update and it wouldnt change. I downloaded a new wallpaper and used root explorer to apply it. Woke up the next morning and the wallpaper had changed its orientation somewhere during the night. Got to be some bugs with this update.
I found a solution in Reddit for my Galaxy S10+. In Nova Launcher Settings, tap the search icon at top right. Search for "force", and tap the result that says "force wallpaper scrolling". It's a hidden option that's not normally visible because it's "rarely needed"according to the tool tip.
Enjoy!
Hey everyone,
I'm running into a weird problem lately. I have a custom homescreen with Nova Launcher Pro and whenever I click the Recent Apps button. I close all recent apps and it force closes Nova Launcher and reactivates Samsung One UI. It does this every single time until I hit the Home button and it goes back to Nova Launcher. Anyone know what could be causing this weird issue. I only had this issue recently so part of me thinks it's from a firmware update. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Try clearing the system cache on boot menu.
Try clearing associated apk caches, data if need be.
If you migrated from Pie to Q time probable time to reload...

Yeah I've wiped cache partition from boot menu (holding power and volume up button during restart). I've also wiped cache and data from both Samsung One UI and Nova Launcher and still nothing.

You can try a hard reboot but that seldom works.
Look at clearing cache/data of the related system apks.
I tried a few launchers and ran into issues with all. Be very wary if you see any system instabilities as boot crash may be next.
One launcher (not Nova) boot looped my 10+ twice.
The Samsung launcher is fast, rock solid stable and allows for a lot of customization.
After fighting with 3rd party launchers that were slower, used more resources/battery, not as stable, loss of some functionality etc... it wasn't worth it.
You could uninstall and reinstall the Nova app and see if that works, I will probably get told that if you wipe the cache it the same thing. But I've done it before with other apps and it has fixed issues. I use Nova beta on my note 10 and I've never had any issue with it, so you could also try that. Good luck [emoji106]

Double check to make sure Nova is set as your default Launcher.
Settings -> Apps -> Default Apps -> Home
I've had this happen a couple times with Microsoft Launcher after an update was pushed.
You may have to set it to OneUI then back to Nova.

Yup, tried that to no avail. I'm losing hope here haha

You're going to have to reach out to the developer then. I'm running Microsoft Launcher and I'm not running into this problem.

Let me know if you figure this out, I am seeing the same behavior after the last system update and have had no luck fixing it.

^This^ but it may not work.
Reload the OS, go hog wild or... do what I did after a 3rd party launcher boot looped my 10+ twice.
Use the native launcher.
Fast, very stable and very customizable if you use the available free themes, icon packs and the Good Lock family of apps. Throw in a custom background with Color Wallpaper and done.
Solution which helped me
Hi, I had same problem and for me helped to choose as default app for Home One Ui and then back Nova Launcher.

That worked for me too with Microsoft Launcher.

Not sure if you resolved this or not but I just ran into this issue on my Note 20 Ultra. Fix was the same as above where I set the Samsung UI back to default, then switched it back to Nova Launcher and then did a hard restart with volume down and power button. Note: did not work until I did the hard restart

Yah!
It may return though. Hard resets shouldn't be needed. There may be a firmware and/or hardware incompatibility present.
Watch it closely for instability as this is a class of app that can boot loop the device.
Never had Nova do it but another launcher did, twice. Not fun.
Have you set app power management for nova?
boot cache menu clear, also most are gone now but i like cda not on app store, and leave shut down for a few minutes, Mine on Nova would not show apps if i pulled tab on apps still open in background, then just quit, did above and havent had issues. Tis the season
Experiencing this issue with Nova Beta on my Z Fold 2 as well surprisingly its working great on my og Fold.
I had the same issue on a Galaxy M31, issue has been resolved by clearing the data of the One UI Home App under Settings - Apps - Show system apps - One UI Home - Storage - clear data
I do have same issue with Poco F2 pro (K30), although POCO Launcher is still installed (even not deactivated), if I'll choose as default Nova, the recent app button (square) not reacting at all. Multiple press lead to error message "POCO Launcher crashed".
I used the recent apps to clean them from mem (hope I say that right).
did anyone found a way how to fix the not working recent app button on custom launcher (in my case Android 11)?
the suggestions above (including M$ Launcher did not worked for me)
also is there any other way how to delete/kill apps from mem - other than use recent apps (square) button?
thanks for suggestions.

Are there any goodlock modules that can make my icons round? I hate these default icons. The main reason why I would want to use a custom launcher...but don't, because like you already stated, one ui launcher is just fast and very stable.
Well, almost everytime I swipe to go home the home screen flickers and I can't move on it.
Does anyone know how to fix if on One UI 3.0?
Thanks!
I hate this glitch with a passion, but it comes back every few weeks. I find clearing data (storage) of ONE HOME UI is the best way
I hate that bug and I really want to know how to solve it. I tried clearing data and nothing. Did u found a fix?
