This has never happened with any of my other Android phones or tablets. I have installed the Kindle app on my new Z Fold3 in the ordinary manner. When I go online to Amazon's web page to view my devices the Fold3 appears twice as though it were installed on two separate devices. My OnePlus 7 and my tablet only show up a single time. When I change the name of the Fold, both of them change on the list of devices. When I delete the app from my Fold, they both disappear from the app list.
The only difference is that each of the Folds on the device list display a different "email to device" address.
This does not seem to affect my use of the app, although I wonder whether or not it could trigger a limit threshold as some Kindle books can only be used on a certain number of devices at a time.
More than anything else this is kind of a curiosity and a little bit of an OCD thing. I am very curious if anyone else has encountered this, and if so were they able to do anything about it.

Mine seems to do that too, although it just shows Android device 13 instead of Fold. Maybe Amazon sees the cover screen and the inside screen as 2 separate devices since some apps sort of work that way?

Hi
Just discovered this excellent forum.
What a difference 4 years makes, have gone from a 2006 Sony Erickson W810 walkman phone to this and its just a little bit different shall we say.
I'm still playing with it. trying to get it set up etc. Have tried to bluetooth across my phone contacts from the Sony (before the number transfer takes place on 6 April) and message comes up saying that the Desire is awaiting 'acceptance of the transfer). Symbols have appeared on the top of the Desire.
Where do i go to accept the contact list transfer?
Any other 'top tips' woulod be greatly appreciated.
Can you also watch 'live' TV i.e. Sky sports through the Sky player.
I read on UK hot deals forum how to speed up the 3G, this seems to be working.
Other probably stupid questions:
On a PC you would set up a firewall, virus protection for the internet etc. Do you not have to do this when accessing the net via a phone? What happens with span, hackers etc if you accidentially access 'dodgy sites' shall we say.
Have to say loading apps looks a little complicated for the novice, but I'm sure I'll get used to it.
I think I can address a couple of issues, just not the BT issue.
Live TV?
Well, I don't think there's an app for live TV (at least here in the UK). However a site which broadcasts live TV (probably requiring Flash) may work. Though Flash is known not to work great yet so don't get your hopes up. Would love to be wrong on this point though. I saw a friend in Sweden watch live TV on his iPhone with a station specific app, over wifi. Was kinda cool!
No idea what you're talking about with speeding up 3G. Maybe you can share...
Virus/firewall protection?
Ah yes, that old nut. I'm guessing that they break down into 2 groups, one's that scan constantly and one's that scan occasionally. The 1st offers highest protection but requires highest resources and thus few people will use it on mobile devices. The 2nd is more possible and is available.
But then you have the issue of risk. Many argue, in short, there's not enough risk (even though malicious software does exist). There's not enough devices to make it worthwhile (the same arguements of why Macs don't have so many viruses) and even if there are millions of devices running the same software, the proportion of people that have stuff that is worth stealing puts the value even lower.
I'm sure when mobile devices are more integrated, more powerful (though running Google Earth on my desktop a few years back was hard enough, so to see it on my Desire...!) and when they hold/access more valuable data (i.e. more mobile banking and passwords on mobile devices), then the risk will no doubt also increase.
TV Catchup is the place for live tv. like its been said not sure of with the flash as my desire is on charge and i havent tried it yet.
if your old phone can sync contacts to outlook then do that and save the contacts as a csv file.
then go to google mail and import the .csv file
Thats the theory that worked for me. Your best bet is to google search the rest
I recently had a Kindle Fire HD LTE. I rooted it, installed the google marketplace, and was able to install the majority of my google play android apps.
I then saw there was a student discount on the basic 8.9" model, going for $200 less than I spent on the LTE version. Considering I had activated, but never even used the LTE plan, I figured it was a no-brainer to just go pure wifi.
I rooted the exchanged model, installed the store, and found that a large number of very basic apps from google play were no longer listed as compatible.
I believe the marketplace I had on the first version was quite old. It had the app listing that looked curved, and small. Clearly from before tablets were common. The Google Play store I have now is the modern version, common to regular Android tablets.
The strange thing is that it's the same device, essentially, and these were very basic apps (news, weather, etc) that ran fine on the LTE.
Is there a way for me to get my marketplace to allow me to install those apps again? I realize there are ways to modify files in order to look like a different device, but something else must be happening here, considering the LTE version was compatible (one that is far less common of a style), and the wifi only one was not (the most common 8.9").
Any thoughts on why it's giving me a hard time on the wifi-version, using the more recent play store?
//One thing I was thinking about was the fact that the LTE version has GPS built in. Most of these apps probably had, in one way or another, an ability to use GPS. On the other hand, none of them required GPS to function properly, and 99% of the time I had GPS disabled. Should I risk tricking my google play store marketplace into thinking it's the LTE version? I've heard some risky things about doing things like that, and would be in over my head.
EDIT: I renamed the device in the build.drop, to the same name as the LTE edition, and nothing changed. I'm not sure if there's more to edit than the basic device model name, but that didn't fix it.
Search for MarketHelper 1.1 apk here on xda. Change your device too nexus tablet and all done.

Hi all,
I’ve just bought a 16GB 8.4 wifi model from Computer Exchange.
It’s come in a box with the initial start-up screen ask for log-in details, wifi password etc. I always make a point of skipping through this and then factory resetting the tablet just in case I spot anything odd.
This time, after the Android robot finishing with the reset, I saw an icon with a monkey’s face, and the message ‘Installing Applications’ before the tablet booted up to the normal initial set-up. Looking through the apps, this seems to be a Swiss app called ‘Teleboy’.
Obviously I found that rather odd. Doing some Googling – I think it might be an app that comes with Swiss Samsung tablets.
Is there any way to check nothing else odd is in there, before I stick all my passwords into it?

I believe it has a different country firmware or some sort though I can't be sure. I'm on the USA firmware and I haven't seen that on my T800 model. Can you go into settings -> general -> about device and tell me your build number etc. Thanks!

Looks like they included it in newer firmwares. I believe you have a different firmware from a different country. Different countries have different apps bundled in your device. I did some research about the teleboy app and it looks like an app for Samsung tvs. I believe you should be fine and if you want, you can disable it to be extra safe.
Here's where I looked at regarding teleboy. http://www.samsung.com/ch/smarthub/apps/app-03.html
It's a TV app in which Samsung included but probably isn't needed if you don't need it. Hope this helps!

Terrific - thanks for your help.
Earlier tonight I noticed a new app, "Rooms" with a pretty generic Android head as its icon, had installed itself. Not unheard of, especially on a Verizon handset, but I have DT Ignite disabled. I clicked it to see what opened but got an "insert phone into Gear VR" screen, which I didn't do since I wanted to find out more about what it is and where it came from. When I open the Oculus app it's not showing in my library.
Only thing I can think of is a day or so ago I sideloaded Deo VR video player and that must have opened up some sort of backdoor into a third party being able to install apps without authorization. But this installed itself tonight (I only know this for sure because of Samsung's ****ty ui choice of always putting new apps at the end of the drawer, and it's the last one behind another app I purposefully installed tonight).
I can't find anything that seems to be related to a GearVR app called "Rooms", and r/gearvr has no info on it.
Anyone else have this happen? Have you opened it with the phone in the GearVR? What is it?
Rooms
It showed up on my Note 7 as well. Don't know what it is. Didn't get into the VR system to find out. Uninstalled it but it keeps coming back.
Check to see if the dt ignite re enabled itself. When i read about that app online, it said it has the tendency to to that . (Haven't seen it happen yet... it's just what the article said)

This has also installed itself onto my s7 edge last night I have not installed or removed any app for a while so no idea where it came from, it refuses to be remove and if you open it and put phone in vr gear it just says page can not be displayed and get in touch with Oculus.
Someone on Reddit did some digging and it looks like it's part of one of the recent Oculus platform updates but isn't actually implemented yet. Supposedly a newer Oculus update removes it again. It's a chatroom type platform Oculus is working on, supposedly.

Hotfix update rolled out today
My sister and I both have Pixels (mine is an XL, hers is not) and when either of us casts to a chromecast from either of our phones, the persistent Cast notification appears on both our phones and both of us can control it, and vice versa. I've never experienced this on other phones, and it doesn't appear on other family members' (Android and iPhone) phones. Anyone know what's going on?

That is normal behavior - as long as the two phones are connected to the same WiFi network as the chromecast.
Go to https://www.google.com/intl/en_us/chromecast/tv/chromecast/##comparisonTable and click the "See more" at the bottom of the table. You should see the following
"Works with multiple users simultaneously.
With Chromecast and Chromecast Ultra, anyone can share in the fun using their own phones to control the TV-- stream videos, join in a game, or add a YouTube video to the queue."
Hmm. That wording is ambiguous. Actually, I just noticed it does appear on my HTC One M9. So now I'm wondering why this behavior occurs on some of the phones but not others. My Moto X 2014, for example, does not display it.
This feature came in the recent Google play services update. Soon your family members phones will all do the same.

Edit: If you want that feature on other phones sooner just go to apkmirror and get the newest play services.
Okay, that explains it. I did notice that the notification was from Google Play Services. Thanks.
