Ok, so I got a replacement battery in the mail today from Best Buy Geek Squad/Black Tie Warranty, and surprise surprise... what arrives?
A chinese knock off battery, 1100mAh, and its white! They even printed the 1500mAh part number on it 35h00123-22m! It says for HTC EVO 4G on it. Just what I wanted, a lower powered knock off for my phone
I expected better from best buy!
9/29/2010 follow up:
Sorry for the delayed response guys, kind of forgot I even posted this rant. So basically Geek Squad admitted that it was pretty crappy that I was sent an 1100, but they couldn't do anything about because that was the only battery they had. So I was told to buy a battery from another store and submit a receipt for it and would be refunded. I did that, but unfortunately the battery I ordered from Amazon which was supposed to be new, was actually used and even had a phone number written on it! So now I have a dispute opened with an Amazon seller as well. Still haven't submitted the receipt to best buy, probably wont even bother. It's only $15. I'm just going to cancel geek squad warranty and keep my sprint insurance. By the way, Geek Squad does not give out new phone as replacements, they are refurbs. In my opinion, Sprint's insurance is quite a bit better. No questions asked.

I would have expected nothing better from Worst Buy.
If you're upset, then take it back!

Take it back, explain that you want a like new replacement as they promise, if they give you any lip, explain that you will be happy to let the BBB and more importantly your states attorney general know that they are buying knockoff batteries, in fact now that you think about it maybe thats how all of those battery fires started, didn't most of those have Best Buy warranties. Perhaps the local news should get word of that.
Bet you get your battery REAL FAST.
Not suprising coming from Best Buy.
I preordered my Epic 4G on Monday from a BB Mobile store and the woman there told me that the phone, before the gift card they sell you as your preorder deposit, the phone is only $200 instead of $250, and that with my card I only need to pay $150. We'll see about that.
The other thing she mentioned is that the BB protection plan will replace my phone with a brand new model, for free, no matter what is wrong with the device. They told my brother the same thing. He paid for it for a few months, the keyboard on his original Droid went bad and when he contacted them, they denied him the replacement and that they best they could do is take his phone, give him a Tracphone or something for a week and they'd ship the Droid out and return to him his repaired device.
Also, Best Buy may not even know they are buying knockoffs. They could very well be getting ripped off themselves. I remember this happened with some company not too long ago. I can't remember the headline though.
So yea... Definitely let them know at the store and give Best Buy corporate a call or email. I think you'll probably get a response.

They told me the correct thing when I bought mine.
They ship it off and give you a temp replacement. If they can't fix it (up to 2 weeks) they will give you a brand new replacement. You will get no refurbished devices though. Either they fix your actual device or you get a new one.
Yeah I used the Best Buy insurance to replace my wife's broken 8-month old Moment for an Evo for about $120 (the difference in price).

You might think so but what they are trained and supposed to do in this situation si tell you that they are no longer allowed to talk to you and you will have to contact the legal department. As an EX geek squad manager i can tell you the BBB threat will make them laugh the attorney general and news will also likely lead them to stop talking to you.
If you go in and are reasonable and they tell you tough simply ask for the district number and call the district office they will get it fixed more then likely.
The whole threaten thing is a joke and is over used and more and more it doesnt work as it used to. Most companies now train there managers and supervisors to stop talking to you as soon as you threaten to do something like that.

I'll also agree with this and add one as an insider to BB. They will end up calling the cops, the cops ALWAYS will side with BB because they are encouraged to have a good relationship with them. As soon as you start getting lippy and stop listening, they will call the police - the cops won't listen to ANYTHING you have to say and that is that. If you get crazy with the cops, expect a trespass charge.

Works for me everytime. Of course I follow up after the requisite warning. Mine is not a threat. It is a notification.
And if you have been trained to just shut up after your informed that your company has ripped someone off the that is criminal negligence which can easily be proven by recording the conversation.

Wont have to wait long for the police at my local BB. If they are open, a uniformed officer is at the front door...and marked car parked on the sidewalk out front...Always. I'm sure they are not on "official police business" most likely they are off duty and picking up some xtra bucks as security. They can still arrest you though
I have learned that being the asshole will get you nowhere, even if you are in the right. I would make sure you have your facts straight, if you can prove its 1100, prove it, bring documentation. Ask for a manager and be polite. I'm a business owner and when a customer comes at me with an attitude, they get what they give. The customer is always right died a long time ago. If a manager doesnt work, go to the district manager. If that doesnt work, then you got fuc%$ed. Goto BBB, Angies, Local media, google reviews etc and make them wish they would have replaced your battery. It will for sure cost them more than the battery. If 1 person gets turned away, you won No it wont hurt them in the big picture, but it might make you feel better if you know they lost a few thousand bucks. Online reviews work believe it or not.

i dont know where you get your information but not talking to you is not criminal negligence. Also in most states recording a conversation with out both parties knowing about the recording in advance is normally not admissible as evidence in court with out a warrant stating you can record conversations.
I was a manager for 7 years and the people that came in were respectful nice and took the route i said got there problems solved by the people who threw temper tantrums threatened (even if they followed up) and were rude usually got screwed whether they were in the right or not. It is true as above that they will call the cops.
I cant tell you how many times some jerk came it not the store yelling there head off and going ballistic got escorted out because they didn't just act civil and go through the right channels. I can tell you an equal umber of stories where people where extremely nice and respectful and showed there point and the management and district staff bent over backwards to try to make it right.
your experience may be that you have gotten what you want being a deuchebag but i will say it works less and less and you have just as much of a chance of being escorted out by the police, not talked to, and getting no where as you do actually getting what you want.

I am not sure where in my statement you are getting that I go in and start acting like a jerk?
I go in, explain my issue, and state what I would like done to have it fixed.
If the issue is then not fixed I escalate with a warning that if we cannot fix it right there I have no issue making the needed calls to set the matter straight.
As for "most states", most more more than half, 2 party consent is only needed in 12 states, thats a bit less than half of the US the last time I checked.
Also of note is that while your working at a public place such as Best Buy, you have no expectation of privacy when speaking with customers therefore recording laws would not come into play.
So what your saying, is if the customer licked your boots and stroked your ego you would help them, but if you ripped them off and they were rightly pissed you used your "god like powers" to make sure they got no help at all. Got ya.
Again, if I tell an employee that there is an issue and I have been ripped off by your company and that employee just ignores me without letting a manager know, that employee is guilty of criminal negligence.
He had knowledge of reason to believe a crime had happened and he did not do what a reasonable person would and contact a person of authority, thats criminal negligence.
Either way the OP just needs to go in, explain the issue, show the proof and get it resolved, and if that does not work, do not bother dealing with letters to management etc. Just cal the local AG and let them know what happened and that this is something you believe is happening on a large scale, an investigation will be launched and they will be VERY happy to make you whole again.
We are also informed that once lawyer or BBB or any of that other crap is mentioned to let them know they can now talk to the legal dept..
Being a douche will get you nowhere with customer service.Where as being nice will usually always get you results.
Hopefully someday people will figure this out.
We've had people complain to the BBB about our warranty policy, and basically the BBB has laughed at the people saying, we aren't asking for anything out of the ordinary. The BBB serves a purpose, but they're going to judge for the fair and reasonable side, which is not always the customer's side. In this case I think fair and reasonable is that you get a battery that is equivalent to what you had or better.
This is yet another reason why I always tell Best Buy when I'm buying a phone that I want Sprint's insurance not theirs, which they add on happily without any issue.
(See notes below re this recreation.) Here is what happened when I connected my Samsung charger to the USB port of my Samsung Galaxy Nexus (unlocked O2 UK model) as usual earlier today. I smelt smoke from the USB port. I pulled the plug and saw a yellow flame, then started coughing. The unit would no longer charge. The USB cable came out charred, as is the socket. This video shows the cause under a later recreation - it seems when something pushes very lightly on the central USB 'fin', just like when you plug a charger in, it creates fire.
NB: This recreation was NOT the cause of the issue, and I am not creating a short circuit here. The fault started for the first time when inserting an official Samsung charger today, and happens with any USB charging cable too. I used the method shown in this video later, because it leaves the USB socket open so you can see the flame. I am placing the tool under the USB central fin, whereas the flame occurs above it. There is something between the top of the fin and the circuitry that has a manufacturing fault. I held my breath whilst making this video, with the window open.
Obviously this is very worrying, and I spoke to Samsung's 'Office of the President'... who [edit] are sending out a warranty replacement device on a swapout basis as I cannot be without my phone (it still works! I rely on it for work and have no landline). Initially they refused, but after I posted this thread things seemed to change. They had only told me to send mine in and that "it could take a few weeks to repair". A person I have spoken to before going by the name 'Greg Crenshaw' of the Office of the President also said that my inhaling carcinogenic smoke was "of great concern to us" and that I should "seek medical attention". He could not confirm they would pay such medical bills.

Under the circumstances of their product catching fire, I'm pretty appalled they would not originally offer me a replacement swapout, especially as I started my call to the President's office by asking if the smoke would be carcinogenic or toxic to me. All I wanted was a human, common sense reaction. Unfortunately Samsung seemed to think that nearly setting fire to a customer's home, and potentially causing them to breathe cancer-causing smoke, was not a good enough reason to slightly adjust their "standard policy" and allow that customer to have a new phone before he returns his flammable one which he relied on for work.
'Greg Crenshaw' had stated Samsung USA do not have in their possession any Galaxy Nexus handsets they could possibly send me.
Even though it's their flagship phone.
Seriously, Samsung don't posses a single Galaxy Nexus.
I asked the Office of the President.
Shame on you Samsung.
The purpose of this thread was to ask for advice in how to get a swapout replacement given the circumstances? [Edit] but now it seems one is on the way.
I would say you call back until you get a replacement. That is complete and utter bull****!
is a "fin" like a pin? i.e., is one of the pins in the end of the USB cable slightly bent such that, when you insert it into the phone, it causes a short?
i think i would take the phone and cable into a verizon corporate store (on a busy day), explain what happened and ask them what they can do about it? make sure they understand it is a fire risk.

That's not what I said. Yes, by law they have to fix it for free as it's under warranty, but they said it could take them weeks.
They have said they will "consider" any medical bills I send them. He could not say they would pay for any. Not even sure what I'd tell a doctor. "Can you tell me if what I breathed today will give me cancer in 5 years please."

I am referring to the inside of the phone's USB socket. The female part. If you look at it, there is a tiny flat 'fin' or board sticking out.
The cable is fine - this happens with whatever USB cable you put in there. It is a manufacturing issue in my view. Be careful if you have one.
I am not with Verizon - this is the unlocked HSPA+ model.

100% sure. This happens with any and all USB cables I connect. Instant smell of smoke. The screwdriver only came out 2 hours after this fault began, and it began with the official Samsung charger.
Now I am a bit worried...lol
Anyway, I would definitely take it back to wherever it is you bought it. If you got it online, I would definitely contact the seller and inform them of the issue. If the retailer, for some reason, won't deal with it, then why not just get it swapped out per Samsung's policy, even though it may suck? Not saying they are not responsible and that they should not rectify it. It is a safety issue after all. I mean, if they offer to take it off your hands, and you refuse due to inconvenience, then I would say that you are at least partly responsible if something bad happens.

I am happy for them to take it off my hands but they need to put the situation right and not leave me worse off than I was. I help them, they help me. That is reasonable.
I purchased it in the UK on O2 (it is now unlocked by O2), and am now in the USA so I have to rely on Samsung's worldwide warranty. I thought by buying into a reliable, trusted brand like Samsung, I would receive a first class service. Sadly any thoughts of such treatment have gone up in smoke

Anyway, someone should have told you that Samsung is not known for great customer service, at least not in my experience. You would think that they would just go ahead and modify their standard policy in an instance such as this. Maybe you can show them the video somehow and explain to them that it will be plastered all over the internet...or they could just send you the replacement and get their defective phone back. Just an idea. I do hope you get it worked out though, without incident.
Thanks. Greg Crenshaw is as high as you can get at Samsung. His email address even starts with "[email protected]". I was shocked - genuinely stunned - that even he could not be flexible enough to take a human, common sense, approach to this problem. Every sentence he said began with, "You have to understand that our policy is...". No, I don't have to. Not when you create a potentially life threatening situation, and expect me to be without the phone that is my work and lifeline.
The funny thing is while on hold their system talks about how Samsung are committed to improving their customer service and providing a first class experience. Then you get to the top and the real person acts like a robot and tells you to ask T-Mobile USA to give you a loaner phone to replace the Samsung product you bought from O2 UK, because Samsung do not have any Galaxy Nexus handsets whatsoever. Ah well, at least robots can't get cancer.

This.
I have come to the conclusion that all Samsung cares about is:
1. Making more money off of you. (They are a business after all)
2. They don't want a lawsuit.

I completely agree that sending this video to the media and getting them involved maybe your only way to get it properly resolved. It's sad that you would have to "stoop" to this level to get proper service...

I just called AT&T and gave them hell about the lack of progress on the Marshmallow update. Asked how much it would cost to close my account. Miraculously; I was forwarded to a tech support person with an IQ just North of a bedroom slipper. She forced the update to my phone. I'm past the download and my apps are optimizing. Incredible! Before I post, I'm going to wait to be sure, but it looks like I'm getting the Big M! 8 more apps to go! 1 more. Holding breath. BS! Don't know what it actually did, but still on 5.11. Time for the big guns. Stay tuned.
Just north of a bedroom slipper. Thats hilarious.
??????
Big News! AT&T Are Liars!
I called back and spoke to another Golgi apparatus who denied that they ever said that. My, how his toned changed when I started playing back the conversation from Total Recall. He proceeded to tell me that I could pay an ETF of $350.00. I told him that based on the recorded lies that they told me; I DARED them to try to collect. Never mind - just more AT&T BS. {Sigh!}
Sorry. "Just North of a bedroom slipper" and "Golgi apparatus" were complements for these oxygen thieves. Maggots is placing them in high regard. AT&T customer since 1985, and this is how I'm treated? I'm dropping them like a used rubber. Don't have any better "smoking gun" solutions since I travel internationally a good bit; but, I'll cut off my nose to spite AT&T at this point. (Extremely foul language omitted)
Sometimes I think to my self, how fun would of been if this device would of been root able? Big-time developers would be on this specific forum. Idk but lately I've been complementing on wether to give att another chance or split to tmobile

Sorry that happened, it's the worst when you get your hopes up only to have them dashed.
Highly unlikely that att would push out an update to a single user, some of us have been trying to get beta releases for years. Unfortunately, we just have to wait.
So help me; she SWORE that they were already rolling it out (another lie), but I wasn't in the queue yet, and I'd be receiving it soon. She was such a polished liar that it takes my breath away. Then, she gave me the schmoozing touch by saying "Well, you're such a valued customer that I'm going to go ahead and push it to your phone." Eloquent liar. She said "Look at the top of your screen and tell me what you see?" I saw the diagonal arrows that only mean one thing. I was ecstatic! I told her: " I can't believe you were able to do it that fast!" She poured it on even thicker by saying "Now, wait with me for a little bit to make sure it goes through." Sucker!!! I waited until it had gotten to the 100% point and was prompted by the phone to end my call to finish the update. I thanked her profusely, and hung up.
I'm sure they were slapping their knees after I got off the phone with them. The phone went through the expected gyrations with the progress bar, optimizing apps, rebooting, etc. When it finished recycling; there was the all too familiar screen again. My heart was beating like a rabbits. I went to the phone info, and sure enough... Still Lollipop! SUCKER! I felt like Curly from The Three Stooges after Moe just double poked him in the eyes.
Now; I'm pissed. But, being the weekend, I realize that the only person to answer their phone is Hajji over in India, so that's a waste of time. So; my choices are: Stay with AT&T and continue to have nearly seamless international roaming, or cut my throat and go with Verizon - just to match my domestic coverage - (Same high price, same obstinance, but little to no international coverage, same hardware restrictions), or go with a lone wolf like T-Mobile - or worse - Sprint.
Deflated.
stay with At&t but never buy phones from them. nexus is the way to go my friend.
OP, I honestly cannot tell if you are for real.
Oh; trust me; I'm real. And, everything - virtually everything happened exactly the way I said it. It would be hard to make that one up.
As for the Nexus; I've considered that. Perhaps my timing's been bad, but I'm a little underwhelmed by the Nexus phones that I've seen. Especially without Mini-SD cards. It seems like there's always some stranglehold. I've been a Sammy fan for about 4 years now. The previous one was the Note 3 that I purchased outright from AT&T. Root eventually made it's way to it, but I jumped when the Note 5 came out without the SD card slot, and no removable battery. I panicked and snatched up the Note 4. Big mistake.
I wish there was a way to purchase an unlocked, unbranded Samsung Note that would work seamlessly on AT&T, allow updates without the bloat, and let me do what I wanted to do with what I bought. It defies logic.

Likely has no warranty I the states, and difficult to get, many are sold as 910f but are 910a with a system mod applied via odin to make it look like an 910f...
OK, I'll bite. You really didn't know that the ATT associates don't know when any update will occur? You really wasted all this time and energy and anger over this? That is why I smell a troll; everyone knows this, and it has been reiterated a thousand times. The fact is they simply do not know.
Think what you want. I'm not trying to impress you or anyone else. I'm venting my frustration and experience.
Now; if she'd told me that the update would hit at a certain time; I'd have taken it with a grain of salt. But, the way she schmoozed me; I bought hook, line, and sinker. Not to mention all of the speculation on this board that the update was immanent; I thought I'd hit the goldmine. That's what pisses me off. I'll be more than happy to post the recording (~10MB) of the 47 minute conversation - if you have the time to waste listening to it.
And, no; I'm not going to roll the dice on an international - or any other illegitimate phone - in the hopes that I can get what I paid for. That's just another frustration. It would be like buying a fancy Dell computer with a 3TB HD, but they installed 1.5TB of bloatware on the drive and if you took it off; your computer would crash.
OK, I'm done.
I have been an AT&T customer since 96. My first smartphone was the Sony x10a, loved it. Then I saw an ad in a magazine for the ion lt28at. I knew 6 months before the 6 AT&T employees(1 per month) that AT&T was getting it. I "chat" with AT&T about every 2 weeks to see if there's any info when updates are supposed to be released. Occasionally one will act like they have the inside scoop, usually, like with the ion, they're as clueless as we are. I fallen victim to false hope, I'm sure many of us have. Yes, AT&T sucks when it comes to updates and bloat, but I will tell you this, every single time I've had an issue they've done everything they can to make me happy. To me that goes a long way towards keeping my brand loyalty. AT&T is a pretty solid company and would have to do something much worse than delaying updates to lose my business.

yes they can push updates to individual devices, because i called as asked to have that done with the latest security patch, and the person asked me for my IMEI and told me it would take a couple of hours, sure enough within that time I had the notification for the security update.

I agree. I have a contract that was supposed to allow me to upgrade phones every two years. I went in and was told that they don't do upgrades anymore even if it is in your contract. Which means I have to pay that price on my bill and not get the benefit of it. They very eagerly offered to take that off my bill but it would kill my unlimited data. Why in the hell would I buy a phone from them if I can get one that is not locked down for the same price?

It's a dead topic in my opinion. We all know that AT&T's customer service is horrible and will tell you anything. What I found so insulting was the level of deceit that they went to convince me that I was going to get the update. Shouldn't be surprised. That's why I record theirs and a few other companies phone calls to confront them when they don't live up to what was promised. I still find it incredible!
So; I'm stuck with AT&T, or another carrier that's as bad or worse. It's a shame. I used to be able to count on AT&T as fulfilling their promises. My experience over the past couple of years is that you roll the dice, and HOPE you get what was promised. I suppose that's the only option. Their management could care less.
I'm done with this topic. Feel free to rant - which was my purpose - it seems to have no effect on them. They know your options are limited.

Why wont you go buy a T-mobile phone and unlock the sim for use on at&t. Get your root, custom roms, updates.... i have a t-mobile Samsung s5 also Note 4 and finally Note Edge, all rooted and custom roms. All working on AT&T straight talk network. I can update to custom MM right now if i wished.

I know there's been a ton of posts about returning or keeping or whatever you gonna do with your note seven but just wanted to try to get all the information together in one thread.
What we know :
There is a voluntary recall
The major carriers want you return your device immediately
The US CPSC says "to power down immediately"
Samsung is discontinuing support and updates for it
The phone is banned from all us flights
Small possibility or device could overheat and catch fire
Alternative devices at this point are not comparable
At this point you can do two things, keep it or exchange it. Viable alternatives being HTC 10, LG V20, and Google Pixel / Pixel XL. I don't really want any of those phones so ....
As far is keeping it goes...
I doubt the TSA will be able identify on the spot a note 7 and tell you you can't board whatever flight.
I've heard stories about carriers blacklisting IMEI numbers, but only after a return was initiated. There's another post on here showing a verizon rep acknowledging that they cannot force you to return your device. I also doubt that carriers will refuse to provide service to "known" note 7 devices. Show from here I think the only drawback to keeping your device is a small chance that you have a defective unit and the lack of updates and support .
In cedar in the discontinued updates and support, what does that really mean? Besides a new or latest version of android, which can be easily ported over or manually flashed, we'll miss out on continued firmware support and development.
However if the phone works as is, and there doesn't seem to be any major flaws in the hardware (which there doesn't to me), do we really even need those?
TL ; DR - By keeping the note 7 we're only really missing out on firmware updates , and with that in mind , it doesn't seem that crazy to me to keep it .
EDIT: "mandatory" to voluntary
Since Personal Safety and the Safety of those around one, it should be advised by all to power the device down and return it for proper disposal by the manufacturer. One can only imagine that what ever Samsung comes out with when they do will be well worth it I'm sure, They have a lot of repair to do. Just my .02 cents.

They can keep the 3rd party support and updates. I never bought those anyways.
At worst, they will bump you off the network(s) which leaves a pretty desirable wifi only business companion except if you fly or work in a fireworks factory. Bumping from networks, forcing wifi only operation, does nothing to eliminate the risk of fire so I'm not sure about this one. They would need a total brick job.
I just received an S Notes update today. So much for no more updates. I know that it is not a 3rd party of security update but just sayin'.
Whether or not you will be expected to pay to keep it remains to be seen and time will tell. IF they are pretending the Note 7 doesn't exist then that could get interesting as well. This isn't Kickstarter here....
If I went iPhone 7 route I could retain my annual upgrade. Sammy can keep their $75 loyalty bonus for that matter.
Truth be told, if I am forced to, I will get a Note 5 off Swappa out side the Verizon network.
The way I see it is there is a big difference between a voluntary recall and a mandatory recall. Some are acting like this is a mandatory recall when in fact it is voluntary meaning they are not going to disable your phone you can continue as normal and then when the time comes because the phone is under recall you can simply return it and upgrade to a new device whenever you find one that suits your needs. The only caveat is there will be no software updates to the operating system for security patches but that's not the worst thing in the world. They are only disabling phones that have been scheduled to be returned other than that I don't think they can legally disabled all the phones unless it becomes a mandatory recall.

Here's the facts:
- Only 90 or so phones out of probably millions at this point have had this issue.
- The defect showed itself within the first several days of use.
- Samsung Techs were unable to cause a meltdown in their Labs. This proves that this will only happen if you have one of the few defective devices and they didn't find one.
Given the facts, here's my thoughts on the "personal safety and safety of those around you" statement. If you have used you're phone for over a month with no issues then it isn't a defective device. My phone hasn't even gotten hot at any time and has operated perfectly even after rooting.
Another possibility here is that there is a rare combination of APP(s) + use that is causing a unique condition for this to happen. Now here goes the conspiracy theory. It may even be that an unnamed competitor, after discovering this vulnerability, staged these meltdowns for bad PR. The incident on the plane was an absolute worst case for Samsung's image and exactly what someone wishing to damage it would have staged.
For the safety of those around me I'll be attaching this warning label

Isn't it a federal crime to bring the Note 7 on a flight now? If mine didnt lag so bad I would consider keeping it but not take it on a plane.

I see from you sig that you have xposed installed, lag seems to be a common problem with some of the exposed modules. I uninstalled immediately due to lack of features and the lag issue.
I sold my perfect condition Note 3 modified to Developer Edition on eBay but I do have another Note 3 with a minor screen crack which I plan to activate for any flights.....until next fall when the Note 8 arrives. (or whatever they nename it to for marketing purposes)
I would expect Samsung to continue their investigation and ultimately track down the defect. If it's possible to patch with software they may offer this to the many thousands that I'm sure will be keeping their phones. I actually talked to the Costco rep who said he still wanted a Note 7. The recall over a handful of defective phones isn't putting off a huge number of owners.

I don't think its xposed, when im screen mirroring, using gps, streaming music, and charging (aka in my car) it gets so hot the whole system UI crashes.
Neither of my N7's get hot or lag at all. Never have. This is the first phone in many years I have not rooted. I do have package disabler pro to disable the VZ bloat and the udate SDM apk's. No freezing, never overheats or gets hot, great battery life. Almost a perfect phone. I do use Nova Launcher, but that shouldn't matter for anything with lag/no lag. The N7 is pretty much everything I ever wanted in a phone. Not a fan of the curved display since you can't get a tempered screen protector that works for it, and the mono speaker is not very good, but those are about my only complaints (besides a non-removable battery that has overheated in 100 some of the 3 or 4 million N7's out there).
@jellyhead nice graphics lol, I'll probably do something similar
Does anyone (that's keeping it) know if you can get any of these "recall perks" without returning it? Like any of the bill credits Samsung or the carriers are offering or money back for accessories?

No, you don't lose anything going to Nova launcher. Nova is waaaay better than touchwiz. Not even close, at least for me.

Were you trying to get them to cut you a deal? Like committing to let you move to a S7 Edge and then guarantee that you can move for free to whatever Samsung phone you want in 2017? Multibillion dollar companies don't cut one-off side deals when they have millions of customers. They can barely sell and support what they do offer and that their systems are designed to process.
In the U.S. the deal is you get your money back for your Note7 and $100 off via a bill credit if you stay with Samsung; $25 off if you don't. That's the deal and it's not going to get sweeter because they aren't going to reward hold outs for being hold outs. That would only piss the people who "did the right thing" off even further after having to exchange phones once, maybe twice, and ending up with something they may not have wanted. Based on comments made by the Samsung VP heading the U.S. there may be something down the road in terms of an offer on the 2017 phones for those that endured the debacle that was the Note7. That has nothing to do with Sprint, isn't being committed to now, and may or may not happen depending on where the Samsung brand stands in the spring.
So the choice boils down to exchange your Note7 and take your lumps or hold on to it until it become a collectable. I know some are trying to keep their Note7 until the 2017 phones come out but that may be problematic if Samsung imposes a year-end deadline for Note7 exchanges. I would if I were them. They want the phone out of people's hands and hold outs aren't their friends their problems.
This phone was going to be my last phone purchase and its halfway paid off.. now i have to buy another phone instead and wait sometime in the future to get the phone i actually want and start all over to pay? Well yes your right the corps screw the people and this is just one example because they messed it up. The people always pay not the corporations.

Think you're alone? People who bought third party or grey market are still trying to figure out how to either exchange or refund. What about people that bought accessories that are now useless and can't be refunded? What about people that used an upgrade (lease or contract) who left a phone they might have been happy with to end up with a phone they wouldn't have wasted an upgrade on?
There's a thousand tales in the cold city. Lamenting what happened isn't going to change it. I personally think Samsung U.S. will come out with some sort of program for former Note7 owners to get in to a 2017 phone more cheaply. But right now we're stuck with the hand we were dealt.
So what. The Note8 model number has leaked. Wait a few months for the N950 and stop crying

I don't think so.
Fit for purpose? No.
Satisfactory Quality? No.
As described? No.
I don't know about the US specifically but here in the UK, goods must meet those minimum standards or the vendor MUST give you your money back, give you a repair, or give you compensation. And if they don't you can sue them in what would be a 2 minute hearing before the judge awards in your favour. I'd be EXTREMELY surprised if similar consumer protection legislation did not exist in the US.
So Samsung / Sprint / Verizon / whoever will have to take a Note7 back when someone chooses to return it. Unless Samsung change their minds and decide that it's (a) safe, (b) reliable and (c) they switch the battery charging back to 100%. If they don't confirm/do all those things, you can give it back for a refund pretty much whenever you like. They cannot say, "sorry it's too late, you've had your chance" unless they make good the phone.
Samsung lost any rights to get "arsey" over late returns, the moment they started ****ing with our phones.

Out of curiosity, what reason would you provide to the judge for not availing yourself of offered remedies and intentionally holding on to a device deemed hazardous for months longer than you should have or needed to?
By the end of the year some of the things previously discussed (Samsung Account blocking, Play Services blocking, and IMEI blocking) are likely to be in place which will push all but the diehard hold outs off the Note7 and on to something else. Once some combination of those things are in place only 1-2% of Note7's will be unaccounted for. At that point Samsung will most likely care less about what happens to those remaining phones or the people clinging to them. With all that said good luck suing a multibillion dollar corporation in the UK or U.S. And no consumer protection agency in the world is going to defend someone's right to use a hazardous device for months longer than they should have. Like the title of this thread says, "The Note 7 is DEAD." And so is Samsung's caring about those that continue to defy the recall.

You're clearly not conversant at all with UK law.
First, Samsung have few obligations to the consumer here in the UK, unless they sold you the phone. Their only obligations relate to the warranty. I could go on about their obligations under the warranty, but I can't be bothered and anyway I don't need to because of point two.
Second, in the UK, your contract is with your seller and it is the seller who is responsible for the goods meeting the requirements of the Consumer Contracts regulations as I stated above. These obligations last for 6 years and are unconditional.
So, to answer your question as to what reason I would give to a judge, I wouldn't need to give a reason. I could say I lent it to my pet Panda who wouldn't return it. Or that I was using it as a shaving mirror. Or I could say nothing at all.
It would never go to court in the UK, because the seller knows this and knows they would lose instantly.
Remember, this is a *voluntary* recall. It is entirely the consumers' choice whether they wish to return the phone or not. The phone if already "Not of satisfactory quality", since Samsung have told us so. Now that Samsung have messed with the phone and installed this 60% charging limit, they have made the phone "Not as described", since it is sold as having a battery of 3,500 mAH capacity and now it does not. If the carriers block the phone, then it is "Not fit for purpose". Basically the phone fails ALL of the consumer protection tests, and the consumer can return it whenever they want.
Let me ask you a question: Let's suppose it went to court and the consumer says, I was sold this $1,000 phone which is (a) dangerous, (b) doesn't charge to 100% and (c) can't make phone calls and I want my money back. And Verizon's (or whoever the seller is) response is "well you had your chance to replace it so tough". Do you *honestly* think a judge would say OK then Verizon you're off the hook? Really???
And another thing. Why are you so worked up about people keeping their phones, when it's got **** all to do with you? Just curious. I am not planning on keeping mine in perpetuity, but I will hang on to it so long as it works and as late as possible so I have to wait as little time as possible before switching to an S8. Why does this offend you SO much that you have to keep visiting this forum telling people the phone is DEAD? I find your behaviour bizarre to be honest.

I could care less what you do. You and others that want to keep your phones are on the wrong side of history. The phone's been recalled and deemed unsafe and Samsung's offered refunds and exchanges to get them out of people's hands. Every website known to man is questioning the sanity and rationale of those holding on to their Note7's in the stories published about the progress of the recall. That's the world view, not mine.
This is a quote from Samsung (emphasis mine). Does it sound like they care about the "feelings" of people refusing to participate in the refund and exchange program?
As of today, nearly 85 percent of all recalled Galaxy Note7 devices have been replaced through the U.S. Note7 Refund and Exchange Program, with the majority of the participants opting to receive another Samsung smartphone.
We remain focused on collecting the outstanding Galaxy Note7 phones in the market. To further drive participation, we will be releasing a software update in the coming days that will limit the phone’s ability to charge beyond 60 percent, as well as issue a reminder pop-up notification every time a consumer charges, reboots or turns on the screen of their Note7 device.
Here's the front page of this forum. Feel the desperation of those trying to pretend what's happening with the Note7 isn't happening or can be avoided? It's only going to get worse. If you take a step back you'll realize you're really not angry with me or anyone else here. You're angry at an inevitable situation you can't control.

I'm not angry with you, I just find your posts very sad. Like this one above. All that effort typing rubbish about something you don't care about. You must have a lot of time on your hands. For all your protestations about it being "the world's view, not mine", it very clearly bothers you or you wouldn't keep banging on and on about it.
And as I say, Samsung can remain as focused as they like. I'll hand MY phone over when I want to, and not before. And I'll receive a full refund when I do. I am really not concerned how Samsung "feel" about it. I am enjoying using my phone which is working *perfectly* and I shall continue to do so.
Samsung and all the phone companies are doing damage control in social media.... remember that lol.
The whole situation is unprecedented but bottom line the recall is bs in general. these are not dangerous devices the devices are being pulled because they are TOO GOOD. that is the reason. If every product that failed at .0001% were recalled the store shelves everywhere would be EMPTY! The note 8 will have battery nerf for sure on it!

Everyone of you have valid points. Realistically sammy made the choice for a recall in order to avoid massive lawsuits across the globe. My brother works for a top law firm and we talked about this and he said owners could and can still file for a heavy lawsuit which can help owners with better options rather than the current given.
Would be nice if people all over the world who own the device to stand up together against the corporation. That would also include not spending on any of the products they sell. If that was done for at least a month the message would be clear as they would lose revnue as well as stock market gains. Sorry if i blabbed on too much.

So you are going to get yet another thread closed?
Why don't you understand that no one cares what you do with your phone. No one.
What peeves me with you is the way you insist on your rights of ownership that no one is attacking yet you constantly try to stifle threads where others, who are equally free to speak, desire to debate?
What you write about UK law is only part true. No court in the UK would find for you knowing Samsung and its retailers have been doing all they can to get the phones recalled. Samsung made a bloomer. Samsung corrected it with an international recall.
If you went to court.....No I will stop at that. Please go to court and then let us know the outcome.

No-one cares??? That's a ****ing laugh. Have you missed the 500 posts saying anyone who chooses to keep their phone is an idiot / moron / psychopath etc.
I am not denying anyone any right of free speech Ryland. On the contrary, are you suggesting I don't have the right to question others about why they feel the need to slander anyone who wants to keep their phone for a while? How bloody ironic.
You might notice that I am not the only person who feels like they are being attacked constantly, btw. It's a recurring them on this forum and it's VERY tiresome.
And this "court" nonsense. Of course it would never go to court. I will take my phone back to CPW in December or January or whenever and they will give me a refund. End of. Sorry to disappoint you.
If my posts irritate you, PLEASE put me on your ignore list. You do not have to read them you know.

I notice that today you have been rude to a non English speaker about his spelling of the word "Analysis" Yet YOU, an English born speaker, write the word theme as "them"? Double standards.
In a major way my debate with you is not about the Note 7 but about your crusade for the right to keep ones freedom of ownership while stifling thread after thread, even to the point of thread closure, that no one has the freedom to debate things you disagree with here! That causes me concern with you. Freedoms apply both ways. Politeness also costs nothing.
