I just spent hours trying to get WhatsApp to recognize my local WhatsApp backup.
So I placed the WhatsApp folder from my old phone under /sdcard/. WhatsApp should find it when starting for the first time. But it did not and only looked in my Google Drive.
Apparently all the newer WhatsApp versions are bugged in that regard. You have to uninstall WhatsApp and install an old version: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/whatsapp-inc/whatsapp/whatsapp-2-21-9-15-release/#downloads (Get arm64-v8a for the Pixel 6 Pro.)
That old version will successfully find your local backup and restore your messages and media.
After that you can update WhatsApp to the current version from the play store.
Apparently the WhatsApp folder moved, see the post below: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...e-local-whatsapp-backup.4357157/post-85891653
too late now, but why not let it backup to Google? it's free!
Had the same for some time now. The Whatsapp data folder has moved from /sdcard/WhatsApp to /sdcard/Android/media/com.Whatsapp
Simply copy your local WhatsApp data in there (the whole folder, in the end there must be a "WhatsApp" folder below the path above) and you shoudl be good to go....

How come this wasn't mentioned anywhere?!?! Thank you very much, once putting the files in the right folder everything was actually straightforward.
By the way: notice that strictly speaking, /sdcard/WhatsApp is not replaced by /sdcard/Android/media/com.Whatsapp but by /sdcard/Android/media/com.Whatsapp/WhatsApp ;-)

Not sure, I use GMail and TouchDown for Exchange, so nothing is in mine right now. You can always make a SD card backup to your computer (which is always good to have on hand in case...), delete it, and see what happens.
Hello there,
just for your info - maybe it helps somebody:
after some days of trying i found the shortmessages (with tel-number etc.) and some other stuff in a file:
1. Explore your phone with Windows Phone Device Manager
2. goto \Application Data\
3. Add "\Microsoft" to the path (under the file-explorer logo)
4. goto Outlook\Stores\DeviceStore
5. Rename "store.vol" to something like "store.vol.txt" (it is mandatory to rename this file - without this step the file is in use by outlook)
6. extract it (drag n drop)
7. run perl script (#perl test.pl store.vol.txt)
8. See output
Maybe one of you could build a backup application or something like that!
Link to perl script:
http://uploaded.to/file/he26q0d2
Original source of script:
http://www.pocketpcjunkies.com/Uwe/Forum.aspx/pocketpc-dev/21040/Reading-pim-vol-EDB-File-on-a-PC
Edit:
Don't know if you've seen it:
\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Stores\DeviceStore\data
ALL emails and other messages + contact-pictures + signature (three sizes) (just edit the file extension to .html or .jpeg - hex edit helps to find what is right )
\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
-> TabsStorage.bin: Opened tabs from internet explorer (where are the cookies?! )
\Applications\Data\82A23635-5BD9-DF11-A844-00237DE2DB9E\Data\IsolatedStore
ALL Facebook-Information (if app is installed), including messages, pictures, notifications etc. etc.
\Application Data\Location\Cache
Wifi & GSM Data when features is enabled in WP7-preferences (encrypted?! don't know..)
Much more to come...
greets

If you look at this file without renaming it's at 0,00 KB and you can't extract it. Maybe the contacts-tile or something else is using it
Hi Endeffekt,
thank you for this great hint!
But one more question before I try. Is it possible, to rename the file after the procedure back to "store.vol" without losing the messages on the phone?

WP7 creates a copy of this file (automatic), so no problemo sir
Great! Alle messages are there. But the script doesnt work for me.
Now we need a smart developer who can make a viewer for it.
Is there a way to copy the vol file back to the phone? Or is the file always locked? For restore reasons...
I think this is very interesting (possibility to backup/restore SMS), so probably we should keep it on the front page so the devs could notice it.
Has anybody tried to restore that store.vol into the device after a reset? I mean rename the current store.vol to any filename, then copy the backed up store.vol to the phone and restart.
I'd like to try but i need to get hold all my current sms!

SMS retreival on Windows phone 7 using device manager
Hey all.
I have an Samsung Omnia phone 7. Dev unlocked. Running 7.0.7004.0
Anyone any idea how to view the file in question? I need to download this file, and save the SMS entries to my PC.
When I use device manager, I cant see a folder called
\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Stores\DeviceStore
I mean, when I copy and paste the above text into the path, its just beeps and doesnt show anything.
On the root under file explorer, I have
My Documents (which is empty)
Windows (lots of files in it)
-ActiveSync
-Application Data
--KeyStorage
-AppMgr
-ColdInit
-eventlog
and a few others
When I open the Application Data folder, I only have a 'Key Storage' (certainly no Microsoft folder, and I tried typing it incase it was hidden or something , but just a ping sound and no refresh of the file list)
and when I open Key Storage, I have no files.
Any help working out why I cant see these folders / store.vol file would be very much appreciated
Does Windows Phone Device Manager not support this functionality on the Omnia?
Thanks
this should be a sticky, and testers needed
Using the diagnosis code 5**6244*3
I was able to open the Apps Launcher and Shortcuts Menu and can confirm that the path \Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Stores\DeviceStore exists on my Focus.
In that folder, I have:
temp
0
4
6
3
19
8
Each of these folders has a list of single alpha named folders (a, b, c, d, e, etc...)
Each of these alpha folders has a single .dat file
I haven't tried to extract those files to try to play with them. I don't know how I would with the Focus... But just confirming the path exists on my Focus and has the .dat files
thank you munkeyphyst, still waiting for endeffekt

Hello!
I installed LineageOS since Xposed is available for Nougat.
I'm using a Xiaomi Mi5s and since the first day I had issues with the WhatsApp folder.
I backed up my last folder before installing LineageOS.
Then, I installed LineageOS and started using WhatsApp.
Sometimes my folder appeared to have all the backed up data and sometimes not. It was really RANDOM.
Sometimes it used another folder and previously downloaded or sent images/audios sometimes weren't accessible (The app said that the file wasn't on the SD). So I had two scenarios:
1. WhatsApp using the backed up folder, showing all my 2000+ images and audios.
2. WhatsApp using another folder, which started with 0 files and ended with 200+.
These two scenarios were absolutely random.
Sometimes WhatsApp was using one folder and sometimes the other one.
The problem is that in scenario 1 I couldn't access to the files in scenario 2 and vice versa. Neither in WhatsApp nor the gallery nor the File Explorer.
So I had this problem for some time and started to think about it.
Turns out that there was a problem because in my storage there was TWO WhatsApp folders.
The first one is named "Whatsapp"
The second one is named "WhatsApp" (note the capital A).
I don't know HOW I ended having these two folders since the file explorer DOESN'T let you to create similar folders (for example: I can't create "Test" and "TeSt" folders).
Even using terminal and "mkdir Test" "mkdir TeSt" it doesn't work.
So the OS was having issues differencing those ones.
I used ES File Explorer and the folders appear to be the same.
If I were in scenario 1 BOTH folders contained all my +2000 files. In scenario 2 BOTH folders contained the +200 files.
But I couldn't access each folder separately. As I said, it was random, sometimes I rebooted my phone and I was on scenario 1 and sometimes on scenario 2. Even without rebooting, it changed from one to two randomly.
So I backed up my data on both folders (remember, I hadn't access to those folders separately so I had to copy the files in both scenarios)
And then, I renamed one of the two folders to "WhatsApp alternative" and instantly I had access to BOTH folders separately.
So I think the OS can't difference between folders with similar names. If you are having issues with this, the solution is to rename one of the two existing folders but please backup the data before.
I think it's a bug. LineageOS should be able to difference between folders with distinct capital letters and the file explorer, the gallery and all the apps should recognize them separately
I actually CAN'T rename the folders to "WhatsApp" and "Whatsapp" so I don't really know how I ended with that similar folders if the file explorer doesn't let you to do it.
After some research I found the way to replicate it.
First: You need to use the recovery, since you can't make folders with similar names in the OS even using Terminal.
1. Create two folders. One named "Test1". The other one named "Test2" and create a file inside each folder. "Test1" should contain a file named "1" (for example) and "Test2" should contain a file named "2"
2.Go to recovery
3. Use the file explorer built in to rename the two folders to "Test" and "TeSt" respectively. I don't know if this is intended to work or it's a bug, but in my case it works.
4. Reboot the system.
You will start to have issues with those folders. You won't be able to access the "1" and "2" files inside each folder separately since the OS can't difference between those folders.
You can try to do it with two images inside each folder. You won't be able to access the two images separately. Sometimes you will be able to access to the image number one and sometimes to the image number two, but not both at the same time.
I think this needs to be fixed.
Thanks for reading

In the original post I wrote how to fix it.
Basically you should backup both of your folders first. Then, remame one of the two folders with another name (for example "WA Files") and rename the other one with "WhatsApp" (with the capital A) and finally copy "WA Files" inside "WhatsApp" so you merge both folders.
It's explained in the original post, please read it to better understand the issue
Thanks for sharing, had the same issue with my Mi5 after flashing 20/02/2018 MicroG LOS 14.1. After renaming the new "WhatsApp" folder to "WhatsApp 2" all the files suddenly showed up again, including backups. In fact I couldn't access local backup but only Google Drive one... Hope this can be helpful to others too.

Great post. I am using OnePlus 10 Pro running official Oxygen OS 13 (Android 13).
Although the phone supports 120Hz refresh rate, PUBG Mobile (Global) doesn't show an option for 90 FPS in its settings and the game runs at 60 FPS max. In the past, I could modify the ACTIVE.SAV file using a Hex Editor to unlock 90 FPS.
I used to use MiXplorer by Hootan in the past, but it doesn't work on Android 13. I tried using FV File Manage as explained in this post, and although I am able to see the files in Data or OBB folders, I am not able to modify them (for example, open the Active.sav file in Hex Editor or even copy it to another location in internal storage). I have attached a screen recording video demonstrating the above. Would be greatly appreciated if someone could tell me what I am doing wrong.

MiExplorer does not work for me too. Literally anything including using a PC to access the files doesn't work for me, can't paste anything into the app data folders. Pixel 6a on Android 13. I might have to root the phone to be able to access the Android folder.
My phone is rooted A13 and still can't get access in Data/OBB folder -_-
Root does not mean that you will have access to anywhere just like that. You must have some application that wants there and process that

This app is good for accessing/changing/transferring files and folders within the main app folder, but you can't actually rename the main app folder. Need this feature so when you clear data on said app, it won't delete the files and folders within. Long story on why I need this. It pertains to a game I mod for. In order to keep the modified files from reverting back to the original files, you need to rename the main folder, clear data and then rename the main folder back to the original. Hope you can figure this out. For now I have to use the files app from the PlayStore.

ZArchiever is the best file explorer I have found. I used to use Root Explorer on Android 12 and it couldn't do things that ZArchiever could
Latest Mixplorer plays up for me too, sometimes prompts for access to /Android/data folder, but the folder listed is a previously accessed /Android/data/subfolder, not the root /Android/data folder...
I gave up and copied via adb shell
This "FV File Explorer" is actually the first app that I try that is capable of seeing the Android content.
But it seems it's RO on my Pixel 6a. I needed to get some backups back in a an app folder. But pasting seems not to work. Same goes for the PC. Can see the files on PC, but not able to paste something in these folders in "Android"
Someone who knows a workaround for this on a unrooted phone?
Edit:
"FV File Explorer" shows me a warning when trying to make a folder in "android". So looks it's still RO on my phone

You can't downgrade to Android 12 unless you use the special developer build or the A13 bootloader (although things won't run well) due to the anti-rollback protection in the A13 bootloader.
All you need to do to access Android/data on A13 is to use a file explorer that supports it, e.g. MiXplorer, as mentioned earlier in this thread.
This page explains in detail how you can Transfer Files in Data and OBB folder in Android 13:
How to access Android 13 Data and OBB folder & transfer files in them
In this comprehensive tutorial, we will show you the steps to access the Data and OBB folder in Android 13 and transfer files in them.
www.droidwin.com
All you need to do is download and install Files app:
Files - Apps on Google Play
This app is a shortcut to the file manager of the settings app.
play.google.com
A quote from the Comments section on Google Play:
This is the shortcut to the default Android" Files" app you never knew you needed. Not the one with the "file cleanup" feature. The one that magically appears sometimes, and when you go back to your apps list, it's not there. It's the 'admin' one that Google doesn't really want a lot of people to use unless THEY think it's appropriate. So to repeat, this is just a shortcut, to help you find the last file manager you'll ever need, and the one that actually came stock with Android.
