I have the above issue with stock 4.2. Sometimes the screen goes blank (like a dark Grey back light), the phone is still on, but I can't get into it anymore. It registers touches etc, just the screen doesn't get back.
Flashed clean stock Image, factory reset and data restore.
Only battery pull helps. Happens 1 or 2 times per day in various situations (texting, browsing, whatsapp). Luckily I don't have any of the other 4.2 problems, except the missing December in Contacts. The phone is otherwise snappy as hell with 167 apps installed, recent tasks and swiping to close apps are instant.
Did anyone find a solution yet?

Let me know how that works... I have been having this problem also. Screen is blank every 2 days it happens once. Ever since 4.2 update. Before that I had no issues like this.
Also un related but I've started to notice faint horizontal lines in my screen. I use auto brightness. Is this normal or return for warranty?
i can confirm this happens to me too.
4.2 stock only rooted with custom recovery.
Same here folks, It may a bug in the 4.2 builds since Sprint did not officially release 4.2 yet.
This happens on my GSM model. It's never been rooted, and only started doing this after the 4.2 OTA.
You can shut the phone down without pulling the battery. Press the power button once to lock (or just wait until it locks on its own). Press the power button again to bring up the unlock screen, unlock and then long-press the power button. A short vibration tells you when the shutdown menu is up, and the SHUT DOWN button is across from the midpoint of the volume rocker, so you can press it without seeing it. The display works fine when it's powered back up again.
I have a theory that the problem is related to another bug in the auto-brightness in 4.2. The display always goes to maximum brightness for a split second before going black. I have set my phone to manual brightness for the last day or so and have not seen the problem again (yet).
same issue here, I'll try to keep the brightness to manual to see if it works

Manual brightness didn't work for me. Everything I have read seems to lead to something wacky in source. I finally went back to 4.1.2. It hurt to go backwards, but no more issues. I'll come back when it is fixed.
By the way, I did discover that if I was at my computer when it happened, I could reboot the phone using adb.

I experience this issue, but not that frequent. Once every 4 or 5 days, i don't know. I've managed to pull a logcat today as i was near of pc, as posted before, adb/phone is responsive, it even locks the screen normally, there was nothing useful on dmesg. I don't normally use auto-brightness, but enabled it a little while ago, although now i'm not sure if it was enabled the first time it happened. This last time, it wasn't enabled, that I'm sure.
It happened to me both when I was using XDA-app. I have almost 0 user apps installed right now, also uninstalled XDA. Reporting back in a few.
the issue is related to location services
the "bug" has been reported to google http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=40140

huh... i also don't have location services active nor gps. i never do.
and, in our case, the phone is still on, it doesn't reboot, just the screen is black. it's not the same issue.
edit: if i manage to hit it again, my next step will be unroot. full stock.

hello everyone , so i use to have this bug back to kitkat also but it wasn't happening as often as it doesnt now that i have lollipop rom installed on my galaxy tab s T705 , the issue is with touch key lights which stays on even when i have them always off from settings , they act super weird when they are in that mode , they go off few sec after screen is off and if i shake the device they go on again as it looks like they are connected to accelerator sensor or something lolz ,the solution is super easy tho just hit the power saving on and then off again and they work normally again i heard some other ppl dealing with same issue but i wanted to know if there is a perma solution for it or not , im sure its a software issue but is there a way to fix it ?
Install a custom rom like cyanogen or something stock based.
I have the same problem. I usually have it set to turn the lights off after 6 seconds, but after a couple of days they don't work anymore. I would change the setting to off, then on, then back to 6 seconds, and it'll work again. After a few more days, they stop. I haven't seen a permanent fix for this.

Same for me. Would usually opt to have the buttons backlight always off, but randomly it starts actin like always on, although the settings remains 'always off'. Toggling the setting to anything else and back to always off fixes the problem temporeraly.
Im running stock swiss lollipop on my t700.
Yes, this is driving me nuts too! I hope they resolve this in the next update and soon!

Same problem with the lights on after a while even though set to always off. Seems to work properly under 1.5 sec setting option. I would love for the lights to be always off though.

Me too have the touch key settings to always off and found the same problem.
In my case I think it only happens when I plug the Tablet to AC.
Did this happen to anyone under another circumstances?
Thanks in adavance!

I have the same problem as everyone else, which I am very "happy" to hear because I am not the only one apparently dealing with it. I purchased the tablet a couple weeks ago and noticed that even though the setting for the touch key backlight is "always off", it goes on when I open the case, and sometimes goes on and off and goes weird. I contacted Samsung and they requested that I send in the tablet for repairs, so I did. At the same time, I contacted Amazon and they sent me another Tab S tablet. I have a month to return the other one so I figured I'll try this second one and see if I continue to have the same issues like the first one. Sure enough, I had the second tablet for less than a day and it's doing the exact same thing! So far the 1.5 second setting seems to keep the darn lights off. Sometimes doing a soft reset will fix the issue temporarily, but not permanently. If anyone figures out how to fix this, let us know! I'll be following this thread. I hope there's a software update to fix this.

I believe this is a software bug so all tab s running the 5.0.2 lollipop will have this issue.
And to reply to the other poster: The problem will occur after a while, the lights will just turn on and stay on when you wake the tablet. Changing the setting and choose Always Off will fix it but it will come back after a while.

Is there a way to get it back to the stock ROM? I'd rather avoid this light issue until an update to correct this comes out. Thoughts?

I heard that there's a new update available for the Tab S. (I already returned my tablet before my 30 days to get a full refund.) Did any one get the new update, and if so, did it fix the issues like this touch key light?
Hey,
I had this problem on the original KK software - upgraded to Lollipop a few days back and I still have the bug... in fact, it is even worse! Occurs more frequently than on LP.
I wouldn't mind leaving the lights on all the time, but they're so damn BRIGHT, and there's no way to adjust the backlight intensity!
Cheers,
Su
I found this solution on another forum...
If you enable smart stay, the touch key light duration will work properly.
Any further movement on this?. I've found that if I take my tab out of the book case the problem goes away. Seems like it's a bug with the case sensor.
No movement that I'm aware of. I'm really frustrated that there hasn't been a fix after all this time. I'm holding out hope that if there is ever an update to Marshmallow, that the issue will go away. Interesting observation about the case -I have a book case on mine. I'll remove it and see what happens...
Have had the Huawei Watch for a few days and it seems to have a deal-breaking bug. Frequently, after the watch has been in ambient mode for a while, it won't come out of it. If I touch the screen, the ambient display gets brighter, but that's all. No response from swiping or button presses. Sometimes, after a very long pause (a minute or so) it'll come back to life, but usually I have to hold the button until it restarts. Anyone run into this before? Ideas? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Using it with a Nexus 6. Android wear version 1.3.0.2176821.
Thanks!!!

Forgot to mention that the time sticks at whatever time it freezes and so it doesn't even tell the correct time. Sigh.
Have tried a factory reset. Didn't fix it.
Sounds like it's maybe in need of replacing. Like any new product release, there's bound to be a certain percentage of failures. Depending on how you look at it, you're either really lucky, or really unlucky
Well, just in case anyone else encounters this issue, I called Huawei tech support and described my issue. After a few minutes, they came back and said it was a known issue that effects some but not all watches. They said it would be corrected in a future software update but he was unable to tell me when that would be. So I could either wait for that update or send it back for an exchange. Since it happens frequently and renders the watch temporarily unusable, I opted to exchange it. They send an RMA label next day. The joys of new tech. Hope this helps someone else.

I have absolutely same issue. In ambient mode it freezes from the first day I bought this watch. Thank you for investigation and info.
got my hwatch and experienced the ambient mode freeze. to unfreeze, i enter and exit theater mode. it works. but now i'm never sure if the ambient time i'm glancing at is accurate or not...
Similar problem with an HTC M8. I'll try the theater mode to see if that helps. I still can't trust the time any more.
+1 on the Huawei Watch freeze. Sometimes after 15 minutes, sometimes after several hours. It has frozen with ambient mode disabled and with wrist gestures disabled as well.

My Pixel XL screen flickers when charged to 100% and I leave the charger plugged in. This happens with my car charger and also my portable battery pack, both which I used with my Nexus 6P no problem.
Soon as I unplug the flicking stops.
Anyone else have this problem? Or heard anything about this?

I noticed this too. Have a pixel XL and it is very noticeable when watching video on the phone at night with it plugged in.
I have had the phone for one day, no drops or scratches of any kind and only using official chargers/cables.
None of my previous phones had this issue but i am not sure how they got past QA as i am sure many people use their device when charging.
My phone was flickering too when I had it connected to my battery pack.
Looks like theres alot of defective devices out there
I've actually noticed the flicker one night laying in bed too. It was more apparent with Night Mode on. Hmm. wondering if I should seek replacement now...
I have this issue too I've always thought people were overly picky about their new devices but lo and behold here I am. Can't decide if I should bother RMAing...100% and charging isn't a huge use case for me, so as long as no other damage is occurring, I'm not sure it's worth setting up another phone over... Idk. I just want what's in my hand to be perfect
Screen flicker
I've noticed it in mine too. I had a similar problem on a friend's older LG, same symptoms and everything, was just a software bug in his case, hoping it's the same for the pixel, I just got over the death of my moto nexus 6
-Update-
Talking to google support right now, it's sounding like a hardware issue, but they're being tight-lipped as expected with a potential QA issue this close to launch. Going to post updates with troubleshooting steps they send me, but they're being good sports about a potential RMA.
Thanks for chatting with us today!
As discussed in the chat, the following steps may help for flickering screen on your device:
Step 1: Try safe mode.
Did you know:
Running your device in safe mode turns off all third-party apps and is a great way to figure out if any issues are being caused by third-party apps.
Safe mode does not affect normal functionality and features such as making phone calls, texting, camera and photo apps, Google apps, or any stock Android app.
It's recommended that safe mode be used to determine if third-party apps are causing issues such as random reboots, freezing, fast battery drain, or even your screen flickering issue.
To reboot the device into safe mode:
With the device on, hold the Power button on the device to get the "Power off" screen prompt.
Touch and hold Power off until the "Reboot to safe mode" prompt appears.
Touch OK to reboot in safe mode.
Note: To exit safe mode later, simply restart the device normally.
When the device reboots into safe mode, check if the screen flickering has resolved.
If the screen flickering is resolved, great!
If the screen flickering is *not* resolved, continue to Step 2.
Step 2: Update to the latest version of Android OS.
Go to "Settings" > scroll down to "System" > touch About phone (or tablet) > touch System updates.
If your device is modified or rooted, revert your device to original factory image since troubleshooting steps may not work on modified/rooted devices. You can use our Nexus factory images to re-image your device.
Step 3: Reset device to factory settings.
If your device's screen still flickers even when in safe mode and your device did not experience any recent physical damage, resetting your device to factory settings is a last step which may resolve the issue. Resetting your device to factory settings will erase all local data on your device. Backup of your personal local data (pictures, music and video files) is recommended.
To backup personal data on your device
To reset your device to factory settings
**Only for users that have modified their Android device** Troubleshooting steps may not work on modified or rooted devices. Also, modifying or rooting your device may have caused the issue you're experiencing. Revert your device to original factory image.
If your issue was resolved during these steps, great!
If your issue was *not* resolved, call us or reply to this email and reference that you already went through all of our Flicking Screen troubleshooting steps, including resetting your device to factory settings.
You can reply to this email regarding the software update as well. I'm happy to help!

I literally noticed this this morning. 100% battery, night mode, brightness all the way down. At least I'm not alone
It does it with the official charger also...the one that came with the phone on mine
Deleted
I noticed this on mine as well. The fact that it's only happening while charging makes me think it might have something to do with electrical noise from charging affecting the display. This often happens with the audio output on phones buzzing while charging them, and I've seen it happen on laptops with both audio and video buzzing/flickering (google search either of these issues and you'll get tons of results).
Hopefully we'll get an official answer from Google soon.
I chatted with Google and they told me to go to Verizon, bummer. I really did not want to be bothered with another exchange crap. I came over from note 7. I just want a phone that works right and won't explode.
Just noticed half an hour ago myself after having the phone for 3 days. I've never seen it before tonight. Not sure if I just didn't see it (not sure how I would miss it because now it's very obvious) or if it just started happening now. Only happens while charging, stops immediately after I unplug it. Can confirm it does it while using the included charger.
EDIT: Just contacted Google Support through the built-in support chat in settings. The rep declared it a hardware issue and processed an RMA for me. They told me I can hold off on sending back my current device until my new one arrives. Not happy I got a defective device (still usable, so not a huge issue), but very happy with how fast and easy going their support was.
I noticed this this morning too. It was flickering at 100% charge. If it does it again k may try to replace it. I just opened a new T-Mobile account and have no compatible back up phone, so hopefully they let me keep it until I would get a replacement.
Hello everyone, I got LeEco Le Pro 3 two weeks ago. For the past two weeks of testing, I notice that the screen quickly turns red when pressing the power button to turn the screen off. Is any of you facing this problem? It happens randomly, not every time. I have attached the video in slow motion capture in the 7z zip file. So you can see, what I am talking about. Let me know if any of you see it.

I did not power sleep my phone rapidly. The red screen still persist. I don't know if force kill app cause it. I submit the feedback through the leeco experience center about this issue. This is what I got from them:
"Le Engineer
Hello,
I just get some information for this issue, in low battery level the red screen issue will happen sometimes. We also find the same thing on other brand device.
However R&D team are working on it. Hope it will be fixed in next generation product.
Sorry for inconvenience. Thank you for choosing the LeEco."
So I don't know if my phone is defective or not. It's hard to tell. Base on this message, look like there is no fix for this.
I saw this movie. My phone behave as same as your <sometimes>. May it's EUI problem? Somebody on other ROM like MIUI or CM13 can say something?

Mine occur sometime, too. Here is what I analyze:
1. On the home screen; when pressing power button to turn off, red screen occur sometime.
2. Any app that has white background like the waze app I use in the video, red screen occur every time I turn off the screen while leaving the app running. That goes for other app like chrome, whatsapp, google map, gmail, etc. Same result.
3. On the back button, when I press hold, the screen turns off. No red issue. This was on the home screen and this rarely happen. But for apps that is open, same issue.
That is what I like to know if it is hardware defect or software EUI problem. It looks like software issues. It would be great if someone would test it with different roms such as CM13 or MIUI.

If you have another phone with slow motion support just like I did, you can try that.
Other thing I want to mention, I would like to know that if the red screen does not happen to people who have CM or MIUI on lepro 3, can any of you go back to EUI and try to do the same steps? If you can. This would more confirm that the software is the issue and not the hardware defect.
Any update?
Hi folks! I've been searching for this rare issue since I got my LM2 last week. I have the very same issue and I notice the same @crazy1990 mentioned here. Besides, I notice this red light is more noticeable when the brightness is higher.
IMO, I don't feel it's a matter of bad hardware (I hope so), as there are no clues of any other issues at all. I'm also using stock (23s) and I suspect it's some poorly designed fade for the ROM.
Any updates from anyone?
Yes. Red screen blink is noticeable when the brightness is high. As of June, I still have this issue since November on this stock rom 21s. So far, there was no screen degradation or any kind of lcd problem. Lcd works perfect since day one. A while back, I installed lineageOS and I still experience red screen when the rom froze and reboot. At this point, I still don't know if it is the software or hardware. I hope someone can help us out.

A while back, I installed lineageOS and I still experience red screen when the rom froze and reboot. At this point, I still don't know if it is the software or hardware. I hope someone can help us out.

At least your report is positive. :fingers-crossed:
Did you try other custom ROMs? RR, Cuoco?

No, but I already tried omnirom and purity rom. No red screen issue. I also tried tars 21s and turbo base rom, the issue is there.

Great to know it doesn't happen on Omni/Purity. My biggest concern was an increasing degradation and/or flickering issues arising when changing to a stock ROM.
Thanks for your information.
