Question Light Bleed-Like Effect In Status Bar - Google Pixel 6 Pro

I received my P6P yesterday and during setup I noticed something odd, a lightbleed-like effect at the top in the status bar, stretching from one side of the device to the other. I've never seen anything like this on an OLED display before. Fairly noticeable with dark wallpapers and/or with high brightness. It doesn't show on the AOD/lockscreen or when I pull down the notification panel, but it does everywhere else.
Before I return this thing, can anyone possibly provide some insight on just what is going on?

This is my P6P. I just noticed the exact same thing on my Pixel 4A 5G. Is this common with Pixels?

its produced by pixel launcher. yes, its common.

Ah, maybe that's why I haven't seen it on my 3 Pixels. I always immediately replace the Pixel launcher with another launcher.

I've not seen anything like this on mine. Reminds me of stock android top-bar from waaaaaay back.

Weird, try Nova or another launcher.... maybe a fix later from My googleeeee problem's long lists!

I'm guessing that's why I didn't catch it on my 4A 5G, I was using Nova. I wanted to give Stock Pixel Launcher a go but this is way to distracting. I guess back to Nova I go.

Has anyone received a pixel 2 xl without screen burn by the nav bar

I have 2 in one week both have the burn in
seems like its just like the extreme blue shift, its not all, but its most.... honestly it doesnt bother me too much in comparison to the blue shift, especially since they will RMA it, but my fear is that they'll stop RMA's for the burn in like they did the blue shift.
I wasnt thrilled with googles official response, but it wasnt the worst response ever, essentially promising replacements for 2 years for this issue (which they can certainly walk back later) but id LOVE to know the conversations they're having with LG quality control right now...they must be losing their minds behind the scenes at all these quality issues.

Turn on immersive mode to prevent burn in
I've had mine a week and no issues so far with burn in. The blue tint was noticable at an angle but didn't really bother me. Oreo colorizer has completely fixed that issue as well though. Overall I'm very happy with the phone. The only thing it's missing is root and hopefully that will come soon.
I haven't had a problem yet. I've had immersive mode on since day one though. I had the S8+ before this one and there was a 0px nav bar mod that I ran and used swipe navigation for back, home and recents. I've been looking for it on the pixel but haven't been able to find one. Does anyone know if there is such a mod or can make one?
Oreo colorizer doesn't correct the blue tint.

I have 0 burn in but I also use immersive mode and pie control, have been doing so for almost 5 years now. Should give it a try, faaaar superior to navbar navigation imo and simple play store downloads w/o the need to root.
I've been using mine for 10 days and see no burn in at all

Well I have 2 in my hands with burn in the one that's a week old is real obvious the other is only a day old and you can see it but not so obvious.I called project fi just to report it in case it gets worse but they said if I can see it at all it was unacceptable and are shipping me another one .hope third time I get a good one.My first one also did random reboots while on a call happened 4 times
No burn in, been using display tester app frequently to check for signs of display issues. None so far except for heavy use on Daydream.
Are you saying you are having a screen issue with Daydream - or that it is using lots of battery?
I have it.
It started happening as soon as a few days after getting it. Im not going to exchange it yet though.

Made the quick settings tile and you can switch it on or off as you need
You have retention. Not burn in.
I'm having flashbacks to the Nexus 6 fiasco... lol
Retention or burn in it's definitely there and a problem for the $ we spend

adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.navigation=apps,-com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox
This hides BOTH status and navigation bars for full immersion:
adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.full=*

OEMs for the displays...

has any info leaked out on who is making the screens for the pixel 3 and pixel 3 xl? last year wasn't it LG for the XL and Samsung for the pixel 2? does that trend continue this year? I know LG needs to step up their game on many fronts for the mobile displays, especially OLED tech, but wondering if Samsung is making either display for the Pixels. the power consumption for Samsung OLED is great and less likely to burn in.
Lg again... Apparently
Where do you get apparently from? Many reasons Google should go for Samsung on the XL version but corporations and their pennies. If I had image retention right after I bought the phone, especially not using high brightness often, I would not be a returning customer. LG LCDs apparently are very bad too. You should see the ridiculous burn in and image retention on the V20. That kind of IR is hard to do with LCD but apparently LG aced it.

I honestly don't think Samsung has time right now to build another screen for another phone. They are building s9, s9+, note 9 and all the iPhone screens right now. I'm not sure they can throw a pixel device into the mix now. I'd be willing to bet they are behind right now on screens

Samsung is an absolutely super mega insanely massive company. I'm sure they have the resources to make screens for their phones plus many others.
techradar was one site that reported that the pixel 3xl would have an lg screen. That is an old rumor, haven't heard otherwise though. I'm betting it will be a good one who ever makes it. We'll know soon.

They said in the event that the screen would self-optimize for better viewing at all angles. Some other thing they said about it too. Hoping that means the screen will be a lot better than the 2 xl.

You are correct. The smaller pixel 3 does not have the shift. It funny how everyone who says the PXL3 does not have the shift is not angling the phone while on a screen with a white background so you can check the blue shift !! Thats the most telling way to see the blue.
There was no shift so how do you know there's still a problem?

Horrible touch recognition - is this a Pixel trait?

I am a long time Samsung user, but occasionally stray from the brand to try and different flagship here or there. My last stray was the Nexus 6, which I was very happy with. I recently parted with my Samsung S8+ to get the Pixel 3 XL, and I've been happy except for touch recognition. I use 3 different apps that use gestures, and for all 3 this phone just seems to be absolutely stupid. What I could do on my S8+ without much effort seems to take at least 3-4 attempts on my Pixel 3 XL. Its actually to the point its frustrating, and enough to make me start disliking this device.
I haven't even had time to look or search, is there anything to increase the sensitivity or I can try to change the gesture behavior?
TIA :cyclops:

This is probly a dumb suggestion, but an idea none the less.
Maybe try redoing a gesture and see 8f that helps. Maybe since you recorded the gwature on a smaller screen with different resolution and ppi, it's possible it didn't resize the gesture for the 3xl? Worth a shot.

I'm happy just to get a suggestion or an idea.
The main gestures I use are with Apex Launcher, so they aren't set as custom.....they are gestures built into the app.
I know I will probably get criticized for using Apex still, and an older version at that (the recent revamp seems to have broken a few things for me, I haven't tried it since they said they fixed some issues). I've also got Nova pro as well, I suppose I can venture out on my own and just try updating or a different launcher.
I'll dig while I'm watching some college football games that aren't exciting to me tonight.

Pixel 2 XL or Samsung S8+? Help me decide.

Hello guys hope you are doing well. Guys I need your help. I'm looking for phone, just for my secondary to be honest. But I'm in a difficult situation to decide between pixel 2 xl or s8+. Both are in the same price range in used markets in my country. But pixel has been my dream phone since it was released. My main consideration is the camera and display. Of course, the pixel camera is the winner, but how about the display?
How it compares to Samsung oled? Any major issues with pixel 2 display? I read that it has something called blueish color, is that true?
Is there any other problem that maybe I need to pay attention to?
Thanks...
The display seems to have two issues. The first and best known is blue shift, where turning the display at extreme angles to sight causes the screen color to take on a distinct blue hue. This particular concern, despite all the wailing and gnashing of teeth about it, is I feel overblown; all OLED screens have blue shift to a degree. The second concern is black crush, where dark gray elements of a picture are rendered as black. I personally haven't noticed this particular issue, but I'm sure it's there. I'm also sure I'm not going to worry about it.
If the screen is more important to you than the camera, get the S8 as it has the superior screen. Otherwise get the P2XL.
Everything above said is correct! However i have never looked at my display from an angle so the blue tint issue is not there for me.
Black crush and smearing is the only thing i feel an issue but thats only at very low brightness.
If you ask me go for 2xl as it is fast, fluid, has a great camera and guaranteed Android 11 update. You will love the pixel experience.

I just passed the 2-year mark and no burn in issues. However, I baby my devices, and burn in is a bit setting dependent. Set brightness to 100% and burn in will develop over the space of a year, as it did on my Nexus 6 when my roommate used it. I had to use an AMOLED screen fix utility to lessen the intensity of the burn in, but even today the navigation buttons of the N6 are noticeable as dark spots on a white background.
TL;DR: After two years, no issues, but burn in is something to keep an eye on.

Having owned both I can easily say this is the better phone. If consistent performance is a deal breaker for you, this phone will make you much happier. The camera also blows the s8 out of the water. The display on mine is actually really good. It's kind of a lotto unfortunately. The earlier manufactured ones were much worse however so if you can check that at well might be beneficial for you.
I've owned S7 edge for one year and then I jumped to Pixel 2 XL, which I have been using for 2 years. After updating it to Android 10 it feels like I have a new phone in my hands, plenty of new things combined with cstark's camera mod we get Astrophotography mode, which is superb.
Screen has never been a major issue for me, anyway choosing saturated colors on pixel settings is mandatory for me.
With pixel 2 xl, you get a far better camera and dazzling fast smartphone. This is definitely the choice for me.

Mine is an early October 2017, 1st release 2 XLs and like others have said, I've taken care of it and it has served me extremely well... Well enough in fact that I skipped the 3 XL and the 4 XL and will wait for the 5 XL (or whatever is next in the Pixel lineup).
My battery is still great, speakers still loud and crisp, buttons still snappy, and if I wasn't missing the new development that comes with a new device, I'd probably run the 2 XL until it died.
You. Won't. Be. Disappointed.
Be sure to give us a full report in this thread, of your decision and experience with whichever device you choose!

Question The Pixel 6 Pro absolutely lives up to the hype

My 6 Pro got delivered this morning and I've spent the entire day setting up and playing with it - this phone is absolutely incredible! (Also the nerd in me is happy to see people shortening the 6 Pro to 6P, I loved my Nexus 6P)
xxxxxxxx
Can't comment on battery life yet but wow, the display, the cameras and the speakers are all excellent! Haptics are nice and tight, the entire phone feels snappy and gorgeous! Also shout out to the natural depth effect from the 4x telephoto camera, that's a lot of fun to play with.
As someone who's owner multiple Pixel phones in the past, I think every reviewer is on the mark when they say this is the first no compromise Pixel - Google have outdone themselves I fully believe it deserves the hype it's getting!
Mod Edit: some content removed.

By your logic, you may as well not download ANY apps on the playstore and just strictly use apps that are stock on the phone. Pfft.
Stock launchers, since the dawn of Android, have been the most atrocious launchers there are. I've been using Nova ever since Android Donut and have never looked back since.
It was one of the worst phones I've owned, sadly. Sold it in the end after 3 months.

Totally agree. Nova fits my needs very well and gives me everything I want in a launcher, with one small (but sometimes big to me) caveat. Anyone else notice that when you go home from an app, you have to wait a split second before tapping on anything on the home screen in the Nova launcher? If you tap too quickly, the tap is ignored and you have to tap again. I believe this is a widespread issue that Nova has recognized and I think their stance is "that's how it's designed, take it or leave it."
Like I said, not a big deal and I'll take it like that. Just a little bummed out because it almost feels like I have a low/mid range phone that isn't fully ready to tackle that initial tap on the home screen because the processor is too slow or the RAM is too low. I really wish it picked up that first immediate tap when going back to the home screen after exiting an app, only thing I miss from the stock launcher. Ok, my rant is done.
I had a high degree of interest in the Pixel 6 pro but in the end a few things steered me in another direction:
- Canada wasn't deemed worthy of the 512 GB model.
- Placed an order for the 256 GB model Jan 01, was still waiting for it Feb 09.
- Spent my time learning as much as I could about the device while waiting for it only to come to the conclusion that
there are way to many unresolved issues with conectivity and audio DAC incomatability etc.
Hopefully they get it right with the Pixel 7 Pro and decide that all regions deserve the same storage options.
The only issue I've run into, is the signal level on the phone. In areas where I would have "full bars", on my old A71 samsung, I have 1/2 bars.
Running A12L and 13 radio. Finally, I am enjoying the phone. I've been on Pixel since OG XL and not an iPhone fan. Other Android phones may have better hardware, but blocking ads, easy rooting, and the best AI & ML are the most important factors for my loyalty.

It's a well known issue with 3rd-party launchers and A12. I have the same experience with Smart Launcher and still can't find a solution.
I don't fully agree honestly.
There really hasn't been a phone released in the past 3 or 4 years that has lived up to any real hype.
Maybe the Foldables but those are not on my radar currently.
Phone tech is pretty stagnant and the biggest issue we have right now are companies releasing BETA products and BETA software to consumers.
Consumers keep buying into the hype and companies will keep releasing BETA products.
I have the P6P, P6 and a S21 Ultra.
My S21 Ultra has more advanced Google features than any of my Pixel 6's do.

13 radio on 12L? worth it?
Edited majority as no longer needed.
Personally I have found the Pixel 6 Pro to be a very good phone. I have been fortunate that I have not had the issues that some have had and Fingerprint reader on the whole reads first time, no random reboots, battery that lasts all day even when only charged to 80% (and still leaves me with 30% before re-charging).
I have the Mobile Network Standby reading a stupid number (40%+ recently) but this was 6% back when I got it and the actually battery usage has not changed, so don't feel it is an issue of any consequence.
Signal wise, not had any issues, its about the same as my OnePlus 6T was but this gets 5G when in a signal area which that phone couldn't.
There have been some things I haven't liked in Android 12 and the Pixel Launcher, so I have kept the Apex Launcher I used on the OnePlus and have kept the backgrounds to a minimum to not trigger the colour theming (do prefer greyscale anyway).
On the phone pretty pleased with it and don't have anything that is annoying me.
Will soon swap to a eSim so that I can add my work Sim which from what I am hearing may cause an issue, but will see what happens, can always switch back if needs be until fixed.
One of the reasons for using Android is the freedom to customise things like the launcher and the experience. If I was going to stick solely to what the manufacturer was supplying then I would have an iPhone (Not )
can we just be civil please. We all bought a Pixel 6 because we are the 1%'ers (kind of like a biker club). There are lots of great things about the Pixel Launcher (fluidity, simplicity etc) but there are also great things about Nova Launcher (customization etc). So it's about personal preference - just like choosing a Pixel over a Samsung.
Many times when reading comments on a forum, its hard to get your point across (or the real meaning behind your comment gets hidden). So I just wanted everyone to think about that for a second.

Works for me, best reception and speed I've had yet
I love my p6pro with root I'm on 12L and have experienced bugs though, like occasional freezing and unresponsive screen. The Bluetooth cuts out on my headphones sometimes, but it's still the best phone I've owned. No complaints at all here with the p6pro

I'm running the latest 12l radio on stock February update. Also the best bandwidth I've had yet.
