[Q] Creation of ext4 partitions

Im have issues creating an Ext4 partition, not even GParted is working, it doesnt give me the option to partition to a logical partition at all, under any format... can any one give suggestions which methods will work?
Yesterday i downloaded gparted .zip from the offcial site and made a bootable usb. Worked for creating ext4 (as logical) - but had redo it for primary
Also if GP won't work, try easus partiton.
You will have no problems if you make it a primary partition

Im just loading my data to the card now to see how its gonna run, trying it as a primary, but I was under the impression that EXT's had to be logical?

the way the loop works with the symlink, the device dosent see the ext as a partition, and as windows can't read the ext, it will always see the fat partition as the primary one

alpharev recovery doesnt find zip files.

Hello everyone,
I'm stuck again, need your help!
I was trying to repartion the EXT on the sd card, with Gparted. I thought everything went find, but afterwards when I tried to boot: I got stuck on alpharev bootscreen (why so serious).
I tried, clearing cash, dalvik, system/data etc...
And I also don't seem to be able to flash zip files! They won't be recognized be the recovery? I just get the message "no files found". I really don't understand, I copy the zip file (containing InsertCoin 1.0.8) to the root, but the phone doens't see it.
I have CM7 HBOOT and CWM-AplhaRev Recovery v2.5.1.8
Help please! What should I do.
Prob messed up your SD card maybe. Check to see if it works on your PC. If not, just partition it FAT32 then start again.
I tried to do the GParted thing again. It didnt work?
I made 2 partitions (1 FAT32 en 1 EXT4), would it make a difference if I only made 1 FAT32 like you suggested?

That will solve the issue you posted, but you won't be able to use data2sd or similar ad these require the EXT partition
I'm a little confused, are you saying that the EXT partition is somehow causing these problems?
edit: maybe I should just flash another recovery? Amon RA 2.0.0 maybe?
no don t flash anything til you have a complete working phone ... fix the sd card issue before. make sure fat32 and ext4 are primary partition
in gparted fat32 should be labelled LBA.
try to mount your sd on recovery, if it s well done you should be able to do so.
I'm back up!!! Finally! Thanks to everyone helping me.
Seems like Clockworkmod 2.5.0.7 was causing the problem, it doenst support EXT4... I flashed Amon RA 2.0.0 and the zip files were recognized again.
@fragargon: didn't label partitions as LBA though, why is this needed?
Thanks!

[Q] Link2SD switch from fat32 to ext3?

hey I'm currently using a fat32 second partition for my link2sd setup but I need an ext2/3/4 system to link the internal data (for google translate offline language packages) to my sd card as well.
I read that ext4 is not supported but ext3 is.
Thus, my actual question: can I reformat my fat32 partition to ext3 and keeping all the links and files so I don't have to reinstall/move all the applications currently linked?
Create 2nd partition as ext2...
Then, Recreate mount script and select ext4....
Reboot....
It will work....
It moves data also....
Enjoy.....
Wouldn't the data that is currently on the second partition be lost in that process?
Yes it would be. Formating deletes all data on the partition.
Can I just make a backup of the contents of the partition (copying all files) and put them back after the reformat?
Will link2sd still recognize these folders, will there be problems about permissions, ...
Thanks for the help because I basically messed up choosing fat32 in the first place :/
Theoretically it should work. Never tried that, so I cannot be sure.
Ok thanks.
I'll try it soon and post back the results

Hi, KoenGo I saw ur post, n I too was going to post d same question.
Actually I m switching from Link2SD to Link2SD Plus, n av to change d second partition from FAT32 to ext2, ext3, ext4 or f2fs.
I av posted d same question 2day in PHANDROID-Android Forum, so if I get an answer from them I'll let u no, n if b4 that u find out something, u let me no.
Goodluck n Thanx.
Just formatted the second partition to ext2 with Gparted and moved back the backup files from the partition. Selected ext4 when link2sd asked for the file system (I know it's weird but it worked).
Apps were temporarily uninstalled, so shortcuts on home are gone, but other than that all is working fine now.
Now I just need to get the plus version to link the internal data.

TRWP storage showing 0 MB

Hey guys
So i was trying to flash the new RR remix 7..
I formatted everything and now my TWRP shows 0 MB and i am unable to mount or flash ANYTHING except firmwares and recoveries.
I have NO clue what's going on
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
I was using 7.x the other day and tried to revert back to 6.x. Unfortunately, I couldn't because the data partition was set as f2fs. I tried changing it back to ext4 through twrp and it wouldn't work. It kept saying something about the data partition is busy or in use.
I fixed this by booting into fastboot and reformatting the data partition from there using the command: fastboot format:ext4 data (or maybe it was userdata?) I forgot lol.
Also, which partition did you reformat? I think it's only cache and data that is to be changed to f2fs for that ROM.

I need help with the correct format please!!!

Could someone tell me the correct format? my phone only boot in recovery all the time. Help me please!!
System: Ext4 or F2FS?
Data: Ext4 or F2FS?
Cache: Ext4 or F2FS?
Vendor: Ext4 or F2FS?

Does your phone start normally if you put it into fastboot boot mode then select boot normally?
If so follow this
https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5/how-to/fix-phone-reboots-recovery-mode-started-t3705325
If not make sure you are flashing the rom correctly
To reformat data type
fastboot erase userdata
I don't have this device so I don't know what they are originally formatted as but there shouldn't be any reason why you would want to change them
it really work!!
ThankĀ“s it really work!! you are awesome!! :good :victory:
