Brick prevention galaxy note 20 Ultra model galaxy SM-N960U - Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Themes, Apps, and Mod

Im trying to root the phone and install some brick prevention. I used helium backup already, is that enough?
And is it possible to turn on oem unlocking yet on the US models?

Also fastboot wont work.

No such thing as fastboot on Samsung phones.
There's plenty of information in these Note20 Ultra forums on the ins & outs of rooting, use the search function to locate the appropriate threads.......

A $1G paper weight.
Why do you want to root it?
These phones can run well, stock.
If it seems like a bad idea, it probably is.

What a smug response. I'm loving this phone, I just want Linux on it and don't want to turn it into a $1000 paperweight.

And I also just want to know if helium is enough to prevent a brick.

Android is a modified Linux kernel.
There's always risk to rooting especially if you are inexperienced.

I don't think enough people use it to get an honest reply, aren't these features that Titanium Backup can do?

You are misinformed. 9 series to nearly current anything one ui 3.0 and lower can be bootloader unlocked and rooted.

Nothing is enough to prevent a brick. There is no oem unlock. No fast boot.

Looked at some threads and still wondering if they still works on unlocking bootloader. Seems like it tooks so much time for Devs, have anyone knows whats happening? Is it seems unlockable or not? :/

The T-Mobile US version comes unlocked. No one knows yet whether the other G3 versions will be able to be unlocked. The G2 was never unlocked but a work around where you could install custom Roms and kernels was eventually found. Its very much wait and see.

Looked at many forums that people opened about 1-2 months ago. It seems like very very difficult to unlock it. I have much respect developers whichones tries to unlock it. Hope they can be successful on this. I'm glad to have stock rom this is very smooth i can admit it not like laggy touchwiz. But want to give a try to CM or PA or any AOSP ROM's like this, because back in time i was used AOSP based rom on my S III I9300 and loved it. Only reason that i want AOSP ROM is i think im loving pure Android it gives me ultra-smooth performance and simple UI.
The Verizon and AT&T threads have a bounty over $5700 and it looks like a few devs are close to having a solution.
what about the sprint ls990
Any word for Tge sprint ls990 at all I know it might be wrong section but might as well post somewhere
i can try
If someone can point me into the direction required to do bootloader unlocking i will give it a shot. Am a developer but have never attempted to do a bootloader unlock.

Locked bootloader is like hot beer. Seems and tastes awfully. I wish companies sends their flagships with unlocked bootloader like T-Mobile did. Without custom recovery we're not able to even do a simple tweak (The tweaks who requires recovery such as modified frameworks and SystemUI's) Otherwise there is another option G3 Tweaksbox. But it shows very limited options if you're poor to buy it.

HMMMM well ill have a look at what i can do tomorrow. Maybe i can find a small window here. I almost want to say that the abswer would be to adjust the bootloader to simply allow multi boot possibilities with partitions (at least in my mind that would be pretty cute).
I dont even really want the money. I just want to be able to do what i need to do. Multi OS's on one device.

Also it's good to someone has interest about it. But it's ultimately hard job that they cannot solved in past 4 months. I appreciate all the tries/works on this job. Developers, you da real MVP! Well, other than that small joke we're still waiting. Not only international model D855 other models such as AT&T is waiting to unlock bootloader. T-Mobile users lucky that they got unlocked G3. I hope they will find a cure about it. Hehe ive also bricked this baby a few times now but lg has a cool restore tool that fixes all the issues.
Why cant we just copy the unlocked bootloader and overwrite the locked bootloader?
But nontheless. Maybe ill end upnrewriting a boot loader to work. But that might take some more time.

So you can say, i tried to modifiying build prop and ended with softbricking but so i got nandroid which is nice to me. Me neither. On my Note 3 i was tweaking build prop without any problem i've even enabled softkeys (I wondered a bit about how it will look etc.) But not gonna touch until this thing unlocks fully. Using stock rom & root with bloatware removed. With helper programs such as Greenify+Coolify. It's like science it's all about develop, try, fail, develop (or fix/debug),try, fail, develop try, success. It's alla about to hardwork and i appreciate all the efforts that developers given on this topic.

Variants have different bootloaders. So we cannot do a copy/paste on it. If it works like this the devices will be unlocked in 10 min. I almost softbricked too but won against my wonder and didn't touched anything. It now works good. I love G3 even its bootloader locked lol

Damn...just made a huge mistake. phone bricked?

My son wanted to root his brand new phone. i have rooted 8 phones from different phones before with success..... but this time i f***d up...
Accedently installed this on his phone.
http://wccftech.com/flash-and-root-nexus-5-on-android-6-0-1-mmb29k/
executed flash-all.bat and it flashed the bootloader.
For the wrong phone...
It should have been this one..
http://wccftech.com/flash-and-root-nexus-5x-android-6-0-1/
Missed the X......
Now the phone will not even boot any more at all....cant enter bootloader.......does not power up at all.!!!
Jesus...what have i done.......
It here any chance at all to fix this somehow?
Hello and thank you for using Q/A,
because you can't enter bootloader, you can't do anything. You can try to send the phone to Google. Say: It didn't boot after OTA Update.
Kind regards
Trafalgar Square
Yeah it's most likely a paperweight. Try sending it to Google. Flashing the wrong firmware destroys a phone as you probably already know

I am totally aware of that....
but somehow one must be able to flash the bootloader from scratch....
Normally via special software etc.
That´s what i was hoping for....
Only thing I know to use is a riff box to jtag it. Not sure if they have one for 5x.

Your use of the period seems rather condescending. And no, you as the end user cannot fix that. You did one of the few things that is unrecoverable unless you manage to get the bootloader to accept adb commands somehow.

Well. the bootloader is flashed into the phone from the beginning aswell during manufacturing. I work with electronics and software and i know there is always a way to reflash the bootloader. All the electronics comes in the beginning with no software at all, one only needs the proper software/hardware. Most probably by jtag....or if they have some other special tool for snapdragon 808.
Stupid of me not to see that the version i flashed was not for nexus 5X...and only for nexus 5

Good luck. Will Google not rma it?

root info?

Hey all!
I'm new to Samsung completely, I have experience rooting, as I've had multiple Nexus devices, and other rootable phones. Just never had a Samsung. I recently took the Oreo OTA update, and was wondering about the best rooting method? Ive read that you lose secret folder. Is there a way to keep that?
Basically I just want to debloat more and theme without having to use Andromeda, as that is annoying.

Yes it will work fine on oreo, as long as the 2nd to last number of the version you are on isn't a 3. Example:
Good: G950USQU2CRB7
Not Good: G950USQU3CRC6
^-- That right there is a no no for now
But afaik there is so rom in existence for 950u with a 3 there. Just something to watch for in the future.
You don't need to flash back to nougat stock first either. Your should be able to go straight to pcr. If you have trouble with the first step you can try flashing part 2 first, followed by 1 then 2 again, but i fine expect you will have any issues.

Not exactly, this is a root/rom combo. So it will downgrade you back to Nougat version 2 bootloader firmware, root your device, and flash a ROM all at the same time. So there is no way to flash a different ROM since the rooting process and ROM flashing is built into one step.

True, but if anyone is still lucky enough to be on version 2 bootloader on Oreo they still can downgrade to Nougat version 2 bootloader and use that Root/ROM combo to root their device since it works on ver. 2 bootloader but not 3. And yeah, screw Verizon!

Yeah its flashing an engineered firmware, and it trips knox which is needed for secure folder I think. I looked on my S8+ and couldn't find secure folder anywhere, so I'm guessing the ROM removes it.

Whatever happened to those days. S**t, the last few ROMs I was flashing on the N6 were all pretty much the same. I miss being pissed off that one rom had all the things I wanted but looked hideous. Then everything got CM based and themes were everywhere. Then it all just got the same. Then it all got locked down. Almost like Android and Google were playing the devs getting them to make the mods, then them steal them, and incorporate them, then lock it down.

I'm sorry for this basic question, but does the phone being carrier unlocked make any difference? I know that has nothing to do with the bootloader; I'm simply asking if the phone not being Verizon-specific has any effect on rootability ... I was just about to purchase an unlocked S8+ when I saw this thread and almost spewed Mountain Dew all over my monitor. I had no idea Verizon had squelched root, although no surprise there, right?

question about root for TMobile variant

Would it be possible to inject something into a kdz and root that way? I know JOSH1X posted that pie kdz for all variants regardless of locked or unlocked bootloader.

The problem is that every kdz has an RSA Certificate witch will break if the kdz was edited. I do have a plan that can work but I'm still not sure and it's possible to completely lock the phone because it detected an edited boot (where magisk goes). It's possible to get system root too actually but I'm not sure if it's even going to get flashed.

I just need someone to test it since my bootloader is unlocked and it has disabled security. If you want I can tell you how to do it but again. I'm not sure if it will trigger security but even if it does you should (not 100% sure) be able to go back with LG Up.
Again if it fails I'm not completely sure if it's possible to go back without LG service. (I'm saying that because I don't want to brick someone's main phone)

what files do you think i would need? firmware stuff?? binary data?? im really new to development at all, im going to school but id really like to hack this one...
also, do you think id have to get my hands on some firsthand knowledge? like how the motherboards are put together, which pins to reroute??
nope sorry, it is just A theory, i will try ask mods about this
So I haven't been able to find much relative documentation on the exynos chipset. Am going to start looking into snapdragon considering my s20 is a snapdragon model. My test subject is a exynos... I took some photos of what I believe may be relative pins and will attach the files on this post. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Sometimes, old methods and exploits will come back into relevance. This could be a Golden opportunity to skirt Samsung's bull**** BL! Concerning my photograph, this is the side of the board opposite the sim/SD card storage. Don't know what the pins are for. Let me know!!
maybe someone can have A file to flash A BIOS-look BL like HTC HD2 had done?

My main concern is finding out how to make the hardware recognize scary storage as the only storage..
[HOW TO] BOOT FROM SD CARD [SUCCESSFULLY] on QMobile Z8 with BRICKED/DEAD eMMC
I'm a mechanical engineer, not an IT guy. I can fix machines, perhaps, but not bricked phones. So try anything at your own extreme risk. This is NOT a step by step guide. DEVICE: QMobile Z8, same as Wikio Ridge 4G, (MSM8916). Running Android...

↑see , it is possible.

Bookmarked that! Thank you for the link!
These guys were working on devices that already have bl unlocked even before they start to think about booting solely from micro SD. I'm working on a s20 model that's infamous for having a LOCKED bl. My main objective is to modify the motherboard to detect the SD CARD in place of eMMc. I'd like to see one of these have root without any firmware upgrade or flashing NAND, just like having a second SSD for a laptop. Just swap it out.
