Samsung A3 (2017) Install Custom ROM without Home button - Samsung Galaxy A3, A5, A7 (2017) Questions & Answe

Hi guys,
I have a Samsung A3 (2017) and my home button does not work any more, which is not a problem for me.
My goal is to install LineageOS.
Here is what I tried:
- Install ADB on my windows PC
- Install USB drivers
- Reboot into download mode via adb reboot download
- flash TWRP
That's where the problem comes into play, because I don't see any option to get into recovery mode directly from download mode (without the home button). But if I let the phone boot normally first, to be able to use adb reboot recovery, the TWRP will be overwritten by stock recovery, so I never actually see TWRP...
Doe you know any other way?
Thanks for all your great work here.
seb

Nobody has an idea?
For rooting (no custom ROM), I also always need custom recovery for which I need the physical home button, right?
So sad, don't want to buy a new phone, I like this one. But would need root or a custom ROM to free up space...

Failed Root; Stuck in Loop "process com.google.process.gapps has stopped"

Hello and thank you for taking time to read this post.
I attempted to root my At&t Samsung Galaxy S3 today then install tha AOKP Rom, and it back fired due to poor instruction, and poor execution. At the moment my phone, whenever it turns on "inititing swager" (with a pink horse and gears) then gives me a pop-up saying "Unfortunatly the process com.google.process.gapps has been stopped." and "Unfortunately, Setup Wizard has stopped". Whenever I hit ok, the other shows up. I have access to the pull down menu, but can't open any of the links on it. I can also shut it off then get back to the root(hat menu) menu. From which I have tried the option "wipe data/Factory Reset" link, but that changes nothing when I reboot. At this point I am just looking for a way to get it back to factory settings or at least working!
How I got here:
1. Rooted the phone through my computer (successfully it seemed)
-Using this tutorial: /watch?v=bIUA1IxiJzo
2.Started puting AOPK on!
(with this: /watch?v=qzcR-G7EKSw
Look, I know none of you have to help me but any feedback will be greatly appreciated.
P.S. I hav looked through other forums about the gapps error, but the difference is mine is not running to the home screen so I can't go to application manager!
Two suggestions:
1) Put your phone in recovery mode (i.e. where you can do factory resets from), transfer a different ROM image over to the device (I'd use adb to do that from recovery mode), flash it, clear data/cache/etc., reboot the phone, and hope it works.
2) Put the phone in download mode (Vol Down + Home + Power; just like entering recovery, but Vol Down instead of Vol Up), and use Odin to flash a rooted stock image as detailed here; put CWM / TWRP / whatever recovery you want to use on the phone again, and get back to flashing ROM images from there.
In the future, try to be careful of what ROMs you flash... not everything works very well, as you've just discovered.
Thank you for responding so quickly! I am attempting the first method, however i am not sure how to transfer a different rom image(im assuming the adb stands for Android Debug Bridge). I was using the internal SD, but I can plug it the phone into my computer, and it says no drivers found for this device, where before it recognized the phone. Once I get that I can clear the other data and restart.
Your help is very appreciated!

How can I post a doubt in XDA forum?
What custom recovery is on your phone? I suggest installing Philz Touch via Odin if possible and then flash a new rom from an external SD card.

[Q] how to copy files to HTC ONE X thats stuck in boot loop

Hi Dudes and Dudettes.
PLease go easy on me - I am a noob.
Ive been handed a HTC ONE X (International version) that is stuck in aboot loop.
On power on, it simply goed to cyanogen load screen, and stays there forever (till the battery runs out or the phone is powered down)
I dont know what has been done to this phone, but I do know the following:
1. It seems to be rooted (Says UNLOCKED in Fastboot/bootloader screen)
2. Has CWM installed, can access it via Recovery.
3. Can not be restored via Backup/Recovery in CWM.
4. Does not have any roms on the device (tried zip file recovery - doesnt work)
5. Wiping of caches doesnt help.
6. Factory reset doesnt work either.
So I am thinking that I should prolly get a rom on the device and install it.
My question is HOW do I get a ROM on this phone if it is stuck in a loop?
Seem like windows picks it up (its visible in device manager) but doesnt show up as a drive in my computer.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers!

[Q] Bricked without USB debugging

So, basically, I've done a stupid thing, I attempted to install Cyanogen, forgetting to enable USB debugging, and it didn't go too well, all I can do now is use Clockwork Recovery as there is no ROM on the phone, I'm not sure if there's anyway I can enable USB debugging and flash it via USB, with Odin, but whenever I try to flash via .zip through Clockworkmod Recovery I either get the status 7 error, or if I take steps to get rid of that the installation just aborts, any ideas on what I can do?
There is also a possiblity I installed Clockwork Recovery for the 3G edition, whereas I have the LTE edition of the phone, I'm not sure if that'll have contributed to the downfall of my smartphone adventures
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

hi,
first of all, dont worry for that. its not really a brick.
reboot your device to download mode (press vol-down, home and power buttons)
install philz_touch_5.18.2-i9195.tar.md5 - 7.08 MB via odin and restart to your phone to philz recovery. (press vol-up, home and power button, if you see samsung logo release power button)
then install cm rom and reboot. if you dont have any rom file in your storage, then copy rom zip file to your external sdcard via your pc and put external card again to your phone and reboot recovery and try install your rom from external card. this recovery is for lte variant of s4 mini.
i hope you get your phone working again and tell me if it works
I can't use Odin to detect my phone, it just doesn't show up :c
There is another solution.
first - get philz recovery zip file for lte variant and extract it. (get it here http://d-h.st/qdn) open updater-script and remove this code and save file.(that installer will not stop because your device is show him you have 3g variant but you have lte one so simply remove this code and save file to your zip)
assert(getprop("ro.product.device") == "serranolte"
|| getprop("ro.build.product") == "serranolte");
make zip file and copy it to your sdk folder and install it via adb sideload. (google it when you dont know how to install with sideload)
after this you should have right recovery.
then install your rom with sideload and reboot.
Yeah, that did fix it, I now however have the issue of my Wifi won't turn on and I cannot install things as it states that there isn't enough storage space available, which there is, there is also 4.62 Gb used in my Misc files and nothing is listed as even close to that size, so my phone isn't particularly better off ¬.¬ But thanks for your help
Got all of the problems sorted now, for the storage space thing, I had to remove my external SD card and just go on a formatting blitz after reinstalling Clockworkmod and the wifi required a modded kernel to be installed
Hi can someone help me, I have the same issue as Tobiscuits. The link no longer worked but I managed to get the file needed for recovery Odin doesn't see my phone so I can't recover to stock that way I'm guessing USB debugging is off I'm stuck on the Odin mode screen everytime my phone starts. I'm new to this what do I do with the recovery zip I have, it's on my pc atm

Have you installed latest Samsung drivers? Or try reinstall/update them, from Samsung website?
(in the past some people had to uninstall the Samsung sync software & it's drivers first if it had already been installed on PC, ie smartswitch/kies)
You must reboot PC between each operation above & check Samsung drivers uninstalled in program list (assuming Windows). Reboot after install as well.
Update to TWRP after fixed.

Hi thanks for replying, yes I installed Samsung usb drivers still doesn't recognise my device, I do have the same phone again and that works but that phone doesn't recognise on Odin or pc either maybe it's a cable issue or USB driver issue like you said. I'm pretty new to all this but TWRP is the recovery zip right? When I try factory reset it goes through the motions then nothing happens goes back to Odin mode automatically.i should mention I uninstalled magisk before my phone decided to not boot back up I'm guessing I uninstalled it wrong. I'll try uninstalling the Samsung drivers and reinstalling.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 stuck on Samsung logo

Please guys be supportive, there may be similar threads floating in the forums but there is a degree of variation in problem faced and desired soln.
Ok my galaxy note 2 model no GTN7100 has been stuck on boot logo...Neither I was flashing it with any custom rom nor it is due to any update failure...I haven't rooted my phone earlier,I am new to this but with simple guidelines can do it easily... I want to recover my data-pictures,some highly important personal files and some app data from phone's memory. Is there any way i can do this? By cwm recovery with adb? den flashing it with odin or nandroid backup or something else? I can have access to both recovery mode and download mode... I have downloaded files for odin, note 2 stock rom for my phone and country's version and cwm recovery file...Please guide me with simple steps if there is a solution for my problem
if you have custom recovery, you can mount storage and simply access via pc.

- on PC install Kies
- power off phone
- press power button + home button + volume up button for a few seconds
- you will be in recovery
- if you have custom recovery like TWRP there is a Mount button, just press it, select everything and connect to pc
you will have access to files on your phone, just like any other usb stick

How to root Zenfone 5 Kitkat + Lollipop

A lot of users have troubles with rooting Zenfone 5.I've tested on the newest Kitkat, and it works properly, i didnt noticed any issues ( freezes, camera bugs )., but it install also custom recovery.
There is one thread how to root Zenfone 5, but it doesnt work on Kitkat, ('out of memory error).
I will show how to do it properly:
First, what do you need:
1. Rooting Too catshare.net/MjYgEV1B7X8nr7i4
2. Intel driver catshare.net/pdMEYDmstG5958NA
3. USB Cable
4. SuperSU
If you dont have intel drivers, install them first.
After installing put SuperSU.zip on your externalSDCard.
Turn off your phone, and go to DroidBoot (Power Key + Volume UP, hold it until ASUS Logo appears)
You are now in Droidboot, now connect your phone to PC
Now extrack RootingTool, go into folder and open Unlock Bootloader + TWRP Installer (DroidBoot).bat then click any key to start process
Phone will reboot few times.
If u dit it properly, your phone will launch without any problems.
Now you can disconnect a cable from PC
Reboot phone, go to DroidBoot, then to Recovery
If u are in Recovery, click install and choose your SuperSU.zip file and install it.
After installing it, wipe cache with dalvik cache
Congratulations! Now your phone is rooted!
This tool is not mine, I just wrote how to do it.
TWRP ver. 2.8.7.0
Bootloader after that will be unlocked.
