So… I bricked my Sony Xperia XA2 Ultra while trying to install TWRP 3.5.2. Bootloader is unlocked.
Here’s what the phone doesn’t do:
· Doesn’t turn on
· Doesn’t vibrate when power is pressed
· Doesn’t vibrate when power is pressed for a long time
· Doesn’t vibrate when power+vol down is pressed for a long time
· Doesn’t vibrate when power+vol up is pressed for a long time
· Doesn’t light up any LED when connected to a wall charger
· Doesn’t light up any LED when connected to a PC
· Doesn’t light up any LED when connected to a PC with vol up pressed
· Doesn’t light up any LED when connected to a PC with vol down pressed
But here’s what it still does, so at least there’s still hope it may resurrect from the dead:
· It is recognized when connected to a PC as “Other devices / QUSB_BULK”
· It is recognized when connected to a PC with vol down pressed as “Other devices / QUSB_BULK”
· It is recognized when connected to a PC with vol up pressed as “Other devices / QUSB_BULK” but only for a few seconds, and then it disconnects. So at the very least the device “knows” it should be doing something differently when connected with vol up pressed
So it does seem to still hold a chance.
Can you help me out? Thanks in advance!
Are you still struggling?
I often run into this behaviour (I have an XA2 H3113).
Things that work for me.
1. Hold down the three buttons Power+camera+volume_up at the same time without the USB cable plugged in and keep it held, it has taken 30 seconds sometimes to force the reboot.
2. You also say you can 'see' your device on your PC, but don't give much more than that - I am using Linux to manage my phone so I suspect this isn't what you are doing based on your description, anyway you can still download the 'SDK' for windows and try to run 'adb' commands

In my Linux case, assuming that I can see my phone
adb devices
You can then force a reboot to the 'recovery' partition to factory reset everything.
adb reboot recovery.
Failing all that I would consider making sure that there is a charge on your battery and that the cable you are using is good enough (some of my USB C cable that I have lying about have proven unreliable when connnecting and/or charging my phone - they are not all the same!), finally I have also found on my Dell Laptop that the USB port that I connect to matters! I have 3 of them on the motherboard and I have found, for no reason that I have bothered to research, that if I use the two on the right-hand side of the laptop, then I sometimes can run adb commands and sometimes I cannot but if I use the one on the left hand side (with the same cables) it never fails.
Your description about being recognised but only for a few seconds does sound like the PC's Cable/ USB connection is unreliable or that you are running at nearly zero battery (you also said you get no lights which IS unusual). If you haven't already, just let the thing charge for an hour or so and see if it really is just a symptom of a low power in the battery.
Sorry that you are having these problems. I often think I have bricked my XA2 (I fiddle about with thing all the time) and have had numerous issues of LineageOS spinning on boot or not being able to get past the Sony flash screen, but usually one of the two things above gets me out of it and into the 'factory reset' mode and that always seems to work.
Good luck!
Hi there! Still struggling.
1. Nothing happens when Power + Vol up + Camera buttons are pressed for 45 seconds without the USB cable plugged in
2. adb commands are not working (they were up until the failed TWRP installation)
3. Battery was charged to 94% when the failed TWRP installation occurred (I see no way of making sure it is now charged). The cable and USB port I’m using are the exact same I was using during the failed TWRP installation.
4. Being recognized only for a few seconds is a characteristic of the mode I’m trying to enter, thus not cable/USB connection related
5. I have left the phone charging for a full night (and no, the charging LED didn’t show up)
Thanks
Any news on the topic? Same situation here.
Hi guys, just got my Xperia XA2 from China after 2.5 months wait. Is a good phone. But did a giagantic software update over Wi-fi and after tapping Restart my new phone is fried. I tried ALL the steps in the first message above of this thread. Need to know should I get a replacement or is this going to happen again so should go for a different phone? Thanks.

my phone is a Samsung Galaxy Nexus Maguro and it wouldn't power up.
Here's what happened:
1. I think it started when i was transferring files from my phone to pc, then a notification came up in the PC (Windows XP) over voltage detected.
2. Charged it through the outlet
3. Next morning, battery drained but i was still able to start it up and get to the home screen for a couple of seconds.
4. then i accidentally entered fastboot, (volume + power buttons down), didn't even know what it was till now, i just selected the "START" then pressed the power button.
Info that might help:
1. charger is working, tried on other phone
2. when i connect it to the PC i get a notification "OMAP 4400" detected then tries to search for a driver
3. When it is connected it shows the lightning bolt, then the battery animation for a couple of seconds then its gone.
4. Removed the battery (i read that, that's how you get out of the fastboot mode)
Update:
Still able to get to the home screen a while ago. I still do not know if its the USB hardware or just the battery. will try another battery when my friend gets back.
Solved the problem:
checked the cable, and its more of a connection problem. used another USB-microUSB cable (not provided w/ the phone).
Hope it helps other people having the same problem.
HI, after a full charge, i unplugged my ze551ml, it showed up lockscreen and everything seemed ok.. after natural automatic screen lock it never went on.
Black screen and no signs of activity at all, neither vibration or sound.
tried to long press power button => no response
attached to pc => no fastboot / adb
tried combining power/up power/down power/up&down buttons without success
no update where made but yesterday it showed MM update notification which wasn't accepted.
is there any chance to make it live again before doing RMA?
Just to check
Press and keep pressed Vol+ and power for 3 mins, then connect usb lead to phone -- dont have it connected to charger or any device, then release button then try power on,
just a test to see if your usb port is at fault - try a combination with cable in and out
I'm looking for a way to hard reset my device. (Sony Xperia XA 2 - now on android 9 - rooted)
I'm back to a point where the phone doesn't react to anything.
- No lights are blinking
- No response when I connect to power supply
- Nothing happens when I push buttons
- Nothing happens when I long push power button or power + UP.
- Can't get phone into fastboot or flashmode.
- When I connect to laptop, there is a audible response from the laptop, but the phone doesn't show up in explorer or in the hardware list. Nothing shows up.
Any idea on how to hard reset this phone? Or at least that it does at least something.
I didn't find a solution for my actual problem (alternative way for hard reset), but problem got solved by waiting until the battery was completely empty. After that, I could recharge again, and phone became responsive to everything I wanted.
Phone is a Moto Z Play. It got run over so the screen is entirely smashed, no display, touchscreen doesn't work
I've read a bunch of threads that are leading me around in circles
I've found this tool which would i imagine would work perfectly https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2786395
however it relies on 'adb devices' showing a device, which mine does not.
I thought I had USB debugging on, but maybe I don't, or maybe it is but my computer is not yet trusted and the phone is asking me to allow/deny but of course I can't see the screen to click on allow....
This thread seems to indicate a possibility to enable USB debugging and add the device as trusted but again, ADB.... which isn't working for me https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66731042&postcount=260 i'm getting no devices showing up
I can get the phone into fastboot mode by holding power down for ~20 seconds until it force turns off then holding power down to interrupt the bootup sequence. Then if I run 'fastboot devices' it shows, adb devices shows nothing
So what I can do from here? Maybe if someone could give me the exact button combinations I press to get into recovery mode so adb works, or basically any other method to let me see the screen on the PC so I can navigate the phone
I don't want to spend $70 on a replacement screen as I intend to replace the entire phone after this
Is there any other way i.e. plug in a USB keyboard and have exact key combination / keypresses to enable USB debugging and allow this PC?
Have a P3XL that I'm I was going to load a custom image on. But I can't for the life of me get it to recognize having any form of usb data connection.
When I plug it in, it simply starts charging, no usb notification appears on the phone for adjusting the connection, the computer doesn't make a sound, nothing.
With the very same cable I can plug in a P6 and P3 and they will immediately be detected in the device manager.
I've tried messing with all the USB settings on the phone, turning them off, adjust the default use to File Transfer / etc... (note that none of this is from the usb notification, but the actual usb settings under preferences since it's unable to detect it's even attached!)
I'd had a couple issues with the port only charging sometimes so I bought a replacement charging assembly and installed that assuming that would make all my problems go away and while it definitely fixed the cable so it charges every time, it continues to refuse to be recognized as a device.
Does anyone have any ideas what would cause something like this and what might be wrong to cause it to not be recognized AT ALL (to re-iterate, the computer literally can't detect that a device was attached it's not doing anything, both with old and brand new charging port).
(One other quirk, not sure if it's related...The phone never actually stays off. If you power it down, it will power itself back on just a few seconds later. The power button itself isn't stuck and works perfectly for all the normal functions: tapping/holding etc.. And to be clear, it never shuts itself off randomly or anything like that, it's just if you hold the power button and choose "Power Off" it shuts down and then just reboots 2-3 seconds later)
