Can anyone here say they're really surprised?...
Not surprised at all, guess it's time to get a GN5 or a GS6. :good:
Figures.
Well, unless Sammy puts the micro SD slot back in the Note devices I'll be jumping ship.
Not surprised, but sad! Maybe its time to try the Motorola X pure 2015 edition or the Nexus 6P.
Honestly, it would be nice to have, but this phone is now a full two years old. I think it's time we stop expecting Samsung to spend time upgrading us to the latest version of Android. They upgraded us to Lollipop, which I think they had some obligation to do, but I don't think we can expect them to keep doing so indefinitely.
As for my Note 3, It has started to show its age. I think I will be retiring it in the next few months. I have no idea what phone I'll get next. Maybe the iPhone 6.
LOL j/k.
I'd be happy with a damn 5.1 update to address the memory leak. It's insulting to stop updating on such a crappy revision.
As long as other snapdragons 800 keep getting updates I dont see any problem.
Paranoid, AOKP, Cyanogen, Slim, OmniROM, Dirty Unicorns, Darklord's ports! Who need Samsung? N3 is 2 years old, but it's still a beast.

I would like an official release of 5.1.1 from T-Mobile so I can have the latest fixes & updates + the ability to continue using Wi-Fi calling

I guess I'm not surprised, but I am very disappointed. The industry is really bad right now. I mean you only support one year of releases? The current Note 5, and last years Note 4? Sad. With how good phone have been in the last three or even four years they are more than capable to support a new OS. The Note 3 is still a powerhouse, and will probably be so for another three years at least. I'm thankful for the dev community, so at least we can still get the latest OS/ROMs with custom ones.
There is to be a grain of salt taken with this info, but...
http://www.justaboutphones.com/galaxy-s5-alpha-note-3-s4-android-5-1-1-lollipop-update/
According to the image, the 5.1.1 update is in testing for the Note 3 and will be finished sometime in November. I realize we won't get Marshmallow (which is fine with me, even though the Note 3 is more than capable of running it.) I'm just glad (hopeful, more like it) that we'll (maybe) get the 5.1.1 update. Once that gets old and the phone is truly non-supported, then I'll consider rooting and installing a custom rom on this unit.
Fingers crossed!
It pisses me off, is what it does, no 5.1.1 yet for this high $$$ device, its all about the damn money. I am not phone hopping any longer. My wife still has the device, and I can do nothing with it.....sad is what it is......
Not everyone has $800+ to spend on a phone every 6mo. sheez....
ok

I just upgraded to the Note 4 for far less than $800 dollars. You don't have to get the newest released device in order to upgrade. And the Note 4 will get Marshmallow.

The note 4 will get marshmallow when android "N" is on the corner. So why spend money to upgrade from note 3 to note 4 if both of them are not getting upgraded to the latest android before android N is released (quater 2 or quarter 3 2016), when there would be a new wave of devices? Only newest samsung device can get upgrade in a timely manner.
So for those who are desperate for newest version of android, either get a nexus phone or upgrade to the newest device every year. Otherwise just stick with the old phone for two or three years and then buy the newest phone.

That's not really true. T-Mobile released the Lollipop update for the Note 3 only 6 months after it was announced by Google. And don't forget that the T-Mobile Note 3 got the Lollipop update before the Note 4 did. That's pretty damn good in terms of supporting older devices. And I totally expect the Marshmallow update for the Note 4 to be in the same time frame.
So I'd rather pay $400 every two years and have at least one upgrade to the most recent Android version, rather than wait three years and pay $800 to get the same version and then have the same problem of waiting three years again for the Android update cycle and the manufacturer phone release cycle to line up again.

Option 1(your option): upgrade from note 3 to note 4 and paying $400, you get a note 4 which can get the last upgrade to marshmallow around April, then become outdatrd again in September, you can enjoy 4 or 5 months of latest android. Marshmallow will be the last update for note 4, just like lollipop is the last update for note 3.
Option 2: hold the note 3, then next year around April, you can upgrade to note 5 for about $400, which will have marshmallow already. So for the same $400, you get a better phone which can be upgraded to android N in 2017.
Which option is better? Clearly, no point to upgrade from note 3 to note 4 at this time, Nov 2015.

Again, assuming that there is a similar upgrade cycle for the Note 5 as there was for the Note 3 vs the Note 4, the Note 4 will get Marshmallow before the Note 5. In addition, the Note 5 won't be $400 in April. That would still be 6 months from the release of the Note 6, so it would be around $600. So you pay $600 for a Note 5 when for 6 months and $200 more you can get the Newer release? That doesn't make a whole lot of sense now, does it?
In any case, the point is that people in this thread are complaining about not getting Marshmallow on the Note 3. Well, if you want Marshmallow, then you have to upgrade. You're going to have to do it eventually. That's why I would rather upgrade now, and get a better performing phone in addition to the comfort of knowing that I will in fact get Marshmallow. Or people can wait and keep whining about what they already know they aren't going to get.
Would any of you be able to make a qualified prediction? Or link me to relevant information on this. I plan to buy one but don't want to go for the M3 if M2 also will get the upgrade. Cheers and thanks.
Are you talking about the 8 or the 10 inch version?

I'm aiming for the 10 inch, but if 8 is more likely to get the upgrade i will go for 8.
Also please clarify if the upcoming version 6 is based on android 7 (nougat).
Thanks a million.
I own the 10 inch version, and it is almost sure that it won't even get an update to Marshmallow. So no Nougat update to expect.
The 8 inch model already got a marshmallow update the last year, so it is more likely to get another update (but still quite unlikely!).
Keep in mind that Huawei doesn't update its devices very long. If I want my tablet to be up to date, I would buy a Google tablet, or go for the M3.
Hey all.
I have an HP Elite x3 for sale and someone offered to trade a mint Note 7 for it. The Note 7 is working regularly and with blocked updates. It also features a battery NOT made by SDI (it's a "second revision").
Unfortunately Note 7 are stuck in marshmallow limbo. I was wondering when the 7R roms start rolling, there will be possibilities for us to see at least Nougat on the Note 7?
regards!

You should trade that HP thing for the Note 7. No one can tell the future. The refurbished Note 7's aren't even official. There are always rumors and the release date gets pushed back every time. But I hope those refurbished Note 7 roms will bring new life to the Note 7 but it's not guaranteed. Because developers need a Note 7 to make roms for it. Maybe the refurbished will be different in some way that will make porting roms impossible. But If you can use the Note 7 in ur country you should get it. Marshmallow is not that old and will not be that outdated in 2 years time that it's will be totaly unusable . Right now Marshmallow is even better then Nougat if you are into rooting and Xposed and stuff.
Samsung always provides 2 OS updates for each flagship. Does that mean that the Note 10+ 5G will see Android 12 at some point? (since it came with Android 10 out of the box) and... The Note 10+ 4G will see Android 11 but not Android 12? Or maybe both Android 12 or both Android 11? Anyone seen any oficial information regarding future updates on Note 10 line?
There is a lot other more crucial issues for you to worry about before that

As you stated, 2 major updates are to be expected, but, remenember this: this device was designed alongside android 9.0, therefore, dont worry about future updates, whoever chose this device, made the choice upon the device, not the android version, so it is pointless to worry about what major updates it will or will not receive, I still have a note 8 running perfectly on 7.1.1 eventhougj there is 9.0 available for it, I did not update as I found a very messy mixed bag of opinions in this and other portals about 8.0, not to mention 9.0, the fact is that the note 8 came out with 7.1.1 and works really fine this way
How many Major OS update will receive this Phone? Is there a clear plan for Update ZTE phones?
Asked them this Question and got this:
Dear Valued RedMagic Customer,
Thank you for your patience,
Sorry, we have no definite information on this, please pay attention to the update on the official website.
Generally, lately, they tend to release security updates/fixes for a bit and 1 platform update (red magic 6 pro got update from 11 to 12) idk if 6 pro will get update to 13 or if 7 pro will get it but generally if i had to make predictions i predict 7 pro will get updated to 13 6 pro might get lucky and get 13 but might not and as far as 8 pro at the very least i imagine it will get 14 and we shall see afterwards
Red generally usually was about explosive specs/latest android and good price at the moment of release and not much after
Only thing that's a shame is lack of rom development on these phones but I'm guessing red just didn't release necessary stuff for that to happen
