Should I use power saving app for my One X such as Juice Defender? I heard some people saying that using this kind of app will make my phone's life shorter or some thing similar. And will this app help my phone improve my battery life a lot? Thanks

Android is good at managing background tasks etc. Don't use a task killer, it can prevent sleeping of the phone, and constantly kill things that need to be running... Android will start it up again, which is more costly than leaving it running.
Some of these apps can turn WiFi or data on and off according to a schedule, which can be useful, but I just leave mine on all the time. I find the screen to be the biggest drain by far.
My WiFi is at 4% and cell standby at 3%, screen is at 71%.
I'd not recommend. Just download betterbatterystats and keep an eye using that app to see if anything is keeping your phone awake. Remember these are powerhouse phones and not like ordinary dumb phones so expect battery life not to be great.
Simple measures such as keeping brightness low, turning off data when not needed, keeping sync to minimal and such will greater battery life but then things out of our control like poor signal will dampen the battery.

Yeah but some users report that they have boosted their battery life to 1,5x or even more, some even got 2,0x and that's very amazing in my point of view. I just want to know does that kind of app ( which Juice Defender is ne of the bests ) harms my HOX or something similar? And does those apps really THAT effective?

Well if you don't use the screen... Yeah, standby in airplane mode is likely to be much longer than standby with a useful data connection, synched emails etc.
You can ask the same question as many times as you like, my answer will be don't bother every time.
Or try it.

Sorry I can't answer that as I don't use any such apps. I always have a data connection 24/7 so don't use apps to manage any parts of my phone.

I've used JuiceDefender Ultimate on my XE and the app's stats suggested 2.0x power saving. I don't know quite how accurate that really is though. I've just installed it again on my One X.
In my experience, those apps just make your battery life worse. They run in the background, causing the processor to run faster, do more cycles which ultimately leads to using up more power. If you want to save your battery life, set your brightness to as bright as you need it to be, not more. Turn off WiFi and/or Data if you don't use it. Turn off GPS if you don't use it. Kill the apps in task switcher because they usually run in the background as well and eat up your battery life.
I was under the impression that you can leave GPS enabled in the settings, as it'll only be used when an app requests it?

Yeah that's true from my experiences. Minimal battery drain when turned on. I think it's to avoid unnecessary usage like weather apps updating every hour or so whilst making use of the GPS. But it shouldn't have such an impact on battery drain unless your using GPS for long periods such as navigation.

First, I apologize to veterans who already know this......but posts about battery problems are all over our forum section.
So.....2 things I personally think work best to solve battery draining issues.
1. GSAM from playstore. It will tell you what apps are draining your battery...the top of the app list will be your main culprits. Then you need to find out why? You can check what apps are waking your phone and for how long. Gsam can tell you a lot if you play around with it and see what it can show you.
2. Cpuspy, also from play store. A simple yet easy way to see if your phone is deep sleeping. Deep sleep should pretty much be your total up time....minus screen on time. Roughly. If it isn't, or you have no deep sleep time.....back to gsam to find out why.
Once you narrow down the app culprits ....then you can search on why.
One last huge thing I personally have done for a long time now....reboot after you unplug from charger. Every single time. This used to be a fix for not getting deep sleep....and I think it still is a good practice.
That's it. 2 apps and you can post your battery draining questions with a lot more info than simply saying..."hey....my battery life sucks."
Cause 9.5 times out of 10.....it has nothing to do with the rom you are using. Usually anyway.
Good luck!!!
Sent from my cellular telephone
A couple other things.
Comparing our total battery time with each other is pointless and meaningless. You can drain your phone from 100 to zero in 3 hours playing certain games, or it can last 30 hours cause you barely touched it. The only reasonable comparison is screen on time. Period. Tho it can alter greatly as well. 2 hours screen time on a 3d game, or 5 hours watching movies. 3 1/2 mostly texting and browsing......but still, its a better way to compare.
Gps is a battery destroyer. Some people leave it on...and certain apps will use it whenever you open them.
Screen brightness is a huge factor.
Task killers usually do more harm than good. Personally I only use greenify, and only for apps I know drain batteries a lot. Like maps. If maps is part of the rom....I convert it to a user app with titanium backup and greenify it. Canada's weather network app is a battery hog. Greenify. Basically anything that tops my list with more than 10 percent in gsam gets greenified. My wife used to use Facebook app....I got her using the browser. The app sucked her battery and data sometimes. No....no notification now, but she's on it a lot....her eyeballs are her notification.
Juice defender....great for very light users....a battery waster for medium to heavy users. Turning wifi and data on and off 200 times a day will kill more battery than it saves. Ever see the amount of times juice defender wakes your phone? LOL. I got as high as 1000 before I deleted it. Gsam told me that!

Screenshots from today....got to 3 percent then plugged it in.
Gsam resets when you unplug it, but statistics stop when you plug it in....for any doubters.
Yes....6+ hours only on charge, but with almost constant use this morning. Peek at the screen on time tho.
Do you feel the paid version of gsam is worth the buy? Or, is the free version sufficient?
EDIT: Sorry. Should have read further down the GPLAY description. It appears the pro version primarily just adds better tablet support.

Definitely a good way to go....keep gsam backup in titanium backup....restore it if you have an issue, then freeze or uninstall it again!
I don't mind the drain and run it 24/7 in case I get the odd issue....like phone process getting stuck in memory after a call. Happens now and then to me....my battery will plummet like 20 percent in a couple hours....I click gsam....see it, force close phone and all is well again. Gotta get thru my 10 hour work day!!! Lol

To be honest, I gotten quite tired looking at the battery percentage. It always gets me SO MAD when I see it start going down from 100 to 90 in a matter of seconds, but the battery icon looks the same. I know it's a placebo effect to turn off the percentage, but it helps to some degree if you're constantly worried about your battery lasting long, like me!

Do the above and you'll know if you're getting normal battery life....or something is going on.
What's your normal screen on time? Average daily use, I'd say 3 to 4 hours is normal. Again....depending what you're up to.

Honestly, I don't touch my phone much at school. Teachers and Deans are more vigilant this year so less texting for me. :/ On a full cycle, I'd say around an hour and a half or 2 hours. If stock had the ability to use the volume keys as track forward and back, it'd be less. That's what I miss from AOSP.

I'm new to my Pixel 2 XL and have the 8.1 update and am seeing horrible battery life. Noticed others in here also experiencing this and wondered if any of you have some recommended settings for EX Kernel that can improve battery life? I only use the phone for notes, camera, calls, messages, etc... Daily use type of stuff. I don't play any games on my phone other than Hearthstone and it doesn't require much to be smooth and I watch some YouTube here and there but it also doesn't require much so anything I can do to get those 6 hour SoTs everyone raves about with this phone.
Standby is great, in use is just embarrassing.
Mine is opposite. It easy to get 6 or more hours SOT using the phone but the thing drops like 10% battery overnight even with battery and data saver on.

A kernel will not stop a badly behaving app from drawing too much power, or not dozing when it is supposed to. You would be better served in using a battery drain app to find your wakelock/bad actors and deal with them. Beyond the information you can get from the improved Google battery applet, GSam and BBS are two apps that can help pinpoint the application or service causing excessive battery drain. It is not the kernel, and as flar2 states, the new chips are so efficient with power there is almost no room for improvement battery-wise. Most people leave it on the default settings, and use it for extra features and customization.
https://elementalx.org/the-truth-about-kernels-and-battery-life/
I agree 100%, I just thought some settings adjustments with the kernel could do some good and maybe someone might have some ideas on what would help the in-use battery consumption. I'm currently clean flashed with only Google APPs and Nova Launcher installed along with EX Kernel and Magisk no modules. Battery drain only shows android system... Not a lot to tell me what it really is. Will try the apps you suggest

There might be an app draining your battery. I use better battery stats to find which app is keeping my device from deep sleep. (Its paid app but I found it on the internet. Can't share links obviously)
For me today isn't a good example as I changed kernels etc but this is what u should have a look at too in settings. If your device is awake the whole day some app is preventing it from sleeping. I got 5.5 hr sot b4 I charged and that was with alot of snapchat
So overall my deep sleep was ok but apps like spoifty kept it awake.
Also the one in better battery stats is only the last 20℅ of my battery life. Didn't get a chance to do my sleep lol I was using it alot today.

Hello,
I have the same problem, battery goes down so fast, very disappointed with battery life.
My battery life is great (6h SoT at least), I usually end the day with more than 50% battery left. Maybe you have some apps draining the battery in the background or the update messed it up so it might be worth doing the reset to factory settings.
Check - background scanning wifi and gps if is ON it drain battery a lot , also if not need change gps accuracy to coarse . Battery draining apps samsung software report itself after 2-3 days .

I can't say why but I found out that disabling bixby (voice thingy) makes a huge difference on my A70 with battery.
to those, who use 3rd party battery apps:
I think you should stop using 3rd party battery apps (battery monitoring, saving apps) they consume a lot, too, and do the same as the built in battery app. I experienced when I installed one of these "useful" apps, and it consumed the most battery, so these are fake. Simply uninstall or disable really not used apps. You will see difference in my opinion
